Where do I start?! We arrived in Franschoek on our honeymoon not knowing what to expect, but having heard very good things. The village itself is beautiful and quaint, and it sits majestically in the surrounding mountainside and is a wine and foodie's heaven (highly recommend la Maison, Holden Manz, chef's table and protege). When we arrived at la providence we couldn't believe our eyes, on pressing the buzzer the wrought iron gates opened and we drove down an idillic driveway surrounded by grape vines to a postcard perfect homestead where Garry came out to meet us and show us round the property and get us settled in. Garry was very welcoming and had arranged for a free upgrade for our room (thank you!) and he played the perfect host throughout - recommending restaurants and wineries to visit and organising table bookings, taxis etc at the drop of a hat. The property itself is literally a slice of heaven, absolutely beautiful and very relaxing - normally we enjoy getting out and exploring, but such was the charm we spent much of an afternoon within the grounds just relaxing by the infinity pool (which is surrounded by lavender and has a wonderful view of the mountains for sunset). There is an honesty bar next to the pool and the whole set up is very homely and inviting, you feel welcome and looked after without having people looking over your shoulder - for us, the perfect customer service. I have saved the best until last... and that is the breakfast!! What an amazing spread! You must try the eggs - we were there 3 nights and had the best poached eggs, boiled eggs and soufflé's omelette that we have ever had! We are missing this place dreadfully and already looking for excuses to come back. Definitely a highlight of our honeymoon and one of our favourite places to be in South Africa! Thank you!!
We struggled to find anything that could be improved, so wonderful was our stay. The only (very minor) thing is that we were in the villa/cottage by the pond (I think they call it a dam) and we had a few mosquitos in our room on an evening that got particularly hungry the first night! After this we realised why there was bug spray provided in the room and we used this overnight, not experiencing any more problems (our own fault for not using this the first night!) - this is just part and parcel of being in this area of the countryside, but I guess this maybe could be pointed out to visitors on arrival to avoid any future guests having to learn the hard way!
Our second visit - grey location, room and facilities. Gary was a fab host.
I loved the location - just out of town. You got the feeling of peace and space but it was only about a 3 minute drive to the bustling main road. The property is exquisite in every sense. Countrified but modern and extremely comfortable and in the most beautiful setting. The staff were amazing too. Breakfast was outstanding - definitely have the omelette souffle.
Simply the Best
The pool and pool surrounds absolutely perfect. Breakfast beautiful and bedroom sheets, pillows and bed gorgeous. The grounds and gardens were utterly beautiful.
Poorly equipped bathroom and we felt as though our particular bedroom was disappointing in comparison with the other accommodation at La Providence.
