Great location, luxurious interior, great buffet breakfast. The room was a bit on the small side.
Staff, staff, staff. Very professional & helpful. Furthermore, the Brasserie served some serious good food.
Large hotel with large comfortable rooms. A clean and stylish swimming pool and SPA area. Nice mixture of classic and modern art on the walls, giving the visitors with spare time the ability to learn and enjoy. The summer staff seemed to be somewhat inexperienced, and it was sometimes hard to communicate, even for a norwegian.
The spa facilities. Family friendly
We stayed at the Thon Hotel Vestlia just before Easter 2010. The location was wonderful. We took the train up which was comfortable and convenient for the hotel who collected us from the station. It was very easy to ski in and out of. The slopes were not overly crowded and there wweren't any queues for the lifts. The hotel was convenient for alpine skiing also. The staff were fantastic:the kitchen catered to our needs being vegetarian and gluten intolerant; and the front desk booked extra activities such as snowscooters. The spa suites were very comfortable and appeared to be newer than another wing of the hotel. . The hotel has two pools. The nicer one in the brochure/website/posters is only for over 16 year olds which wasn't advertised anywhere except when we went to go in with our 12 year old daughter. The other pool was much older, colder, and had no towels for guest use.
location Sauna never worked
Close to Downhill slopes. spa and swimming pool facilities excellent ! Reception staff very professional and customer friendly. Insufficient toilet paper stored in bathroom. Breakfast at Buffet not very delicate (experience:out of bacon, old/dry cheese, undelicate fruit). Some of the staff in breakfast area apparantly not too concerned about hygiene when handling food (not wearing gloves when E.g handling bacon). 3-Course dinner ok, but limited food/value for the money paid.
For the price we paid I found it not fair that you still had to pay for the swimmingpool. I realise however thatr his was probably part of the spa pacakage we didn't take.
Room had not been cleaned. Filthy and disgusting.
the saff wernt kind and wellcome
The evening buffet was excellent with so much to chose from. The receptionist and the gentleman in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful The room was rather small and basic.
The view from the room was nice. There was free use of sauna and swimming pool. Very dry air in room. Mattress too soft. No hair dryer. Swimming pool rather small. No towels at swimming pool. Evening meal was set dinner, no possibility to choose. Stale bread for breakfast. Hotel quite far from town centre. We were lured to this hotel because of the swimming pool and sauna but those were disappoining. There are probably better choices closer to the town centre.
Very pleasant hotel, beautiful view, comfortable room. The lady at the reception desk was very nice and helpful! The dining buffet was also good with wide choice. After the abundent dinner we had high expectations but the breakfast was not above standard. It didn't spoil too much because the total experience was a very good one.
Big comfortable room, wonderful view of the mountains. Fair facilities: no minibar, no fan
Very good location with a large view on the montains. Air conditionned a bit noisy.
Very good service, super geilo-overview
everything went smooth, the staff was very friendly and smiling all the time, the overall atmosphere was very good. The food was brilliant, now after a week we got used to what we would get from the buffet in the evening, maybe a little bit more variation would be good - but keep the smoked salmon! it's a family hotel and in the evening children kept running in the gangways while their parents were at the bar (probably). As we had a room in front of the bar, we heard them all the time, but it didn"t last till the late hours, and it was very bearable. This is really the only minor point we can mention, so it's no big deal at all
Very good hotel, Beautiful location. Price is reasonable.
I really enjoyed staying in this hotel.I got an apartment with all the possible facilities. The breakfast was good also.
The staff was kind and helpfull. For my purpose it was a very good choise.
Good accomodation and excellent position. Nice pool and sauna, good breakfasts My only concern was with Booking.com, had I not contacted the hotel direct about another matter I would not have discovered they were holding just 1 room instead of 3 despite my having had confirmation from booking.com of 3 rooms. Fortunately this was quickly resolved when I notified booking, com
Nice and comfortable rooms. Good parking facilities. Close to everything in Geilo. Week nights very nice and quiet. Very noisy during saturday evening, a lot of party and drunk youngsters. Fire alarm went off two times during the night, no sleep at all. Not even a single apology from the hotell staff.
Easy parking, good food at the on-site al la carte restaurant, Good location if travelling between Oslo and Bergen. As standard in Norway, free internet access. Clean, modern (if basic) facilities. Reception staff helpful Breakfast was very basic and not particularly good quality. As with most hotels in Norway, pricey for what you get. No room safe (although this seems to be norm in Norway). Our room overlooked the main road. As it was summer, the room was quite hot and we wanted the window open - but this meant we had to put up with some road noise. If possible, ask for a room at the back or side when checking in for a better view and less noise.
As advertised, the cafeteria featured regional cuisine. I particularly enjoyed the elk steak. This was the best thing about the hotel. I also liked the reading lights above the bed. The hotel bathroom had no separation between the shower and the toilet. The bed consisted of two mattresses on a single frame, so that my wife and I could not lie comfortably together without one of us on the "crack" between the mattresses.
Room was as described with views across the valley to the south. Breakfast has sufficient choice. Cafeteria menu was not extensive, but good value.
Family-run traditional Norwegian hospitality and food at its best.
