Mork Superior Cottages - Hvammstangi - Bedroom
1
9.5 Excellent (252 reviews)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Spacious room and bathroom. Well refurbished. Right by the fiords. Close to the town centre. Short drive to seal watching spot. We didn’t see the seals due to unfavorable weather condition.
Cons: Check in time is 5 pm although we checked in at 4:30pm. Most accommodations have 3:00pm check in time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wowww. What a view... Just wonderful...
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location was beautiful, close to the water. The host was able to recommend hiking trails that were close by as well as sites for viewing the seals.
Cons: Their ad led me to believe that we might see seals from the cottage deck, when in fact you had to drive 30 minutes to a seal viewing spot.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The cottage was awesome - large, clean, roomy, and comfortable. Really adorable!! The location was ideal. We had horses grazing out side and was welcomed the next morning by the owner’s friendly dog. Breakfast was nice and we had plenty of coffee to fill our take away cups.
Cons: Only one television station!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We were coming in late so they left the cottage open for us so they didn’t have to wait up for us
Cons: NA
10.0 Excellent
Pros: LOVED the location! Just on the outskirts of town with a beautiful view of the water and horses. The cottage was fully updated including a heated bathroom floor. The room offered coffee and tea and the bathroom included soap and shampoo. Very accommodating. Love the floor to ceiling windows on the back side of the cottage to view the water.
Cons: The owner was not available when we arrived at 5pm so we drove to town and did some shopping. Not an issue except the check-in time at 5pm is later than normal. The cottage was on the warmer side and we didn't know where to control the temperature. We slept with the door open - which I don't advise - yet it helped the cottage cool down.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was just what we hoped for, great views up the fjord from our windows. Quiet, comfortable, facilities and breakfast all very good. Local restaurant above the Seal Centre was very good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The views from the cottage was amazing with horses roaming nearby and the coastline in front of us. The hosts certainly take a lot of care and pride in maintaining their pretty cottages. We were impressed with how the hosts accommodated our children's allergies and our dietary preferences in her breakfast preparations. Very thoughtful.
Cons: Not unusual for Iceland, there is a smell from the warm/hot water. We have come to understand that this is quite typical due to the sulphur content in the warm/hot water. However, we did not notice this in our previous accommodations in Reykjavik and Arnarstappi. Over the course of 11 days in Iceland, we have probably noticed this smell in 20% of our accommodations.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: View ! View! View! Interiors. Location. Everything.
Cons: May be a bit expensive.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, friendly, good breakfast
Cons: Blackout curtains would have been great
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and comfortable
6.3 Good
Pros: Hotel Hvammstangi meets the basic need for a quick overnight stop on ring route. I have to be honest and say there was nothing really outstanding about the place. It is a small hotel so front desk is not staffed and front door is locked. You have to call owner and she drives over, but I did not have a phone so another guest I met in parking lot called for me. Breakfast was cold only and very minimal.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We’ve stayed here before as it’s a convenient stop on the ring road. Alla Dora the owner is very friendly and helpful and there is a good restaurant at the harbour down the road.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The lady at the front desk was very sweet and helpful. Convenient arrangements were made as we were arriving late. Comfortable room and good location
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Location litterally at the edge of the ocean, big shared kitchen and living room
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous view, large and comfortable dining area, well-equipped kitchen, washing machine.
Cons: Shower localization
8.0 Excellent
Pros: In general - good accommodation, but also not too much special. Well equipped kitchen, spacious living room with enough table for all the quests. Location - is a bit outside of everything, but with nice views over the fjord
Cons: WE tried to use grill, it did not have all needed utensils (like this cleaning iron brush for the grill), but also it is so huge, that you will need tonns of coal to kick it going - we ended up using our own instant grills we bought in grocy store.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location really close to the water. We were in the self contained apartment. Great to have three separate bedrooms. Living area was a little small and kitchen utensils were a little limited.

7.5 Good
Pros: It was clean. Spacious. Nice food. Great breakfast spread.
Cons: Noisy at dinner time (think a coach load of guests had turned up and were so noisy it was uncomfortable to be dining at the same time.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff at this hotel really went the extra mile, from check-in, to doing laundry for us, to providing an ice bucket for our room, to dinner and breakfast...The location is very convenient -- just off the Ring Road, but far enough off to be quiet.
Cons: This was the only hotel of over a dozen we stayed in in Iceland where we had to prepay the room at time of booking. They do offer a full refund if cancelled enough in advance, though.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Spacious room & good facilities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a great stay in all ways, great hotel, meals, and staff, just all great
Cons: Nothing, all was perfect
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Half way between Akureyri and Reykjavík. Good breakfast. Very clean. Modern.
Cons: We had three rooms reserved. None had curtains in the bathrooms which opened to the bedroom and no way to darken the rooms. They said they have had these complaints before but they have been open for 4 summers so this should have been fixed by now.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The young man at check in was so very kind and helpful. Very friendly and accommodating!
Cons: The first room we went to was so small we could barely turn around in it. Upgraded (paid more) for a larger room.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Was a good location for us in the middle of no where Liked the basketball goal and the hot tub—although we didn’t use it, was nice to have that option
Cons: Poor lighting in bathroom
5.5 Okay
Pros: Rooms were nice
Cons: Price gauging - way too expensive, Breakfast is too basic for this price, facilities are very dated, the arrival is almost scary looking with an abandoned basketball court out front, staff too young and inexperienced
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff was very nice and helpful. The room clean and comfortable and the food at dinner and beakfast excellent.
Gauksmýri Lodge - Hvammstangi

8.5 Excellent (776 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Hvammstangi, Gauksmýri Lodge is in the mountains, within a 15-minute drive of Icelandic Seal Center Museum and Chapel at Groef. Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access and dry cleaning/laundry services.
6.8 Good
Pros: The rooms are not big, but confortable enough for 1 night. The people are very gentle and helpful. You can visit the stables and also make a horse ride. They have a very nice restaurant in th nearest town.
Cons: The hotel need some renovation, it is like a horse farm, but the decoration and also the age of the furniture is old. We have been in another horse farm in the south, and the decoration was awesome compared with this lodge. They have option to have a dinner buffet....we didn't try it, but we think it is overpriced. We went to the restaurant they have in the town (nice and good!).
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Location good if you're looking for a place to stay during a long drive (like us). Lots of horses around. Breakfast ok, same as everywhere in Iceland, maybe a bit below average.
Cons: We had a horrific hygienic experience and we've both traveled to Asia a lot - so we know "dirty". But not even in China I have smelled a bathroom like this - smelled like a public urinal that has not been cleaned in years. And okay, you never know what other guests do and it may be difficult to get back to the original sometimes. But what annoyed me the most is that the smell was already known. When we entered the room, all doors and windows were wide opened and probably not for fun - it was raining and cold. We just left our luggage and went out, and only got back after the reception has closed - and entered a room with the worst smell possible, but nobody around. We decided to stay anyways because it was so late. Early the next morning we asked for the shared bathrooms in the shared facilities (even though we paid for a bedroom with own bathroom) so that we can shower - unfortunately, the shower was all over moldy! Did not end up showering in there. The receptionist was friendly and gave us 50% off our stay, but I don't understand how the ratings can be so good.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The view The farm The beds are very comfortable Cozy place Common areas are really nice
Cons: Our bathroom could be renewed Breakfast was ok but that’s it
5.0 Okay
Pros: Proximity to the look out spot for the seals
Cons: Tiny bedroom with paperthin walls, you could hear everything from the other room and the light fixture in the ceiling would shake everytime someone walk in the other room. Poor breakfast.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location with nice view. Friendly staff, room was clean.
Cons: Only 1 bathroom on the floor which was occupied most of the time.
6.3 Good
Pros: Spacious and clean room.
Cons: Our room was next to kitchen block with all noise and smells coming from it. It was the only place through our trip where we could not handle our own food (no kitchen facilities). So no option but restaurant. Shared bathrooms are averagely clean. One shower for few rooms. Horse tour is available one time a day ay 10:00. Otherwise we were offered individual tour only if all 4 of us go.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good evening buffet and breakfast. Loved all the Icelandic horse pictures, blankets and decor ab6the place. Also nice to see the horses in the morning.
Cons: The bedroom was very small but all freshly decorated.
7.5 Good
Pros: staff++++ very reactive and available very kind and well english speaking cleaness flawless ++
Cons: sleeping room smaller that i expected smell of dampness in the bathroom a bit expensive according to comfort and location , but i m not found of horses .... handle of the window stucked ,(room 204)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very much like a home away from home. Best sleep we had in the 10 days, just because of the relaxed and homely vibe
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was EXTREMELY helpful! Very knowledgeable of the area and best route to take on the way. Sharing a bathroom wasnt bad since there was a sink in the bedroom! Made the morning much smoother.
Cons: The bathroom door handle was broken so anytime anyone pulled the outside handle, the inside handle would fall off. It was loud as it fell to the floor repeated at night. Being next to the kitchen was extremely noisy early in the morning making it impossible to sleep in past 6am. Food was delicious! Great breakfast spread. Both dinner and breakfast are served buffet style.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really comfortable bed and nice staff. We were late and they left us note, which room is ours.
6.8 Good
Pros: Great location. Perfect guesthouse. Clean
Cons: The male owner was extremely rude!!! I emailed during 4-6 checkin letting them know we would be late checking in (according to policy you email/call if you’re gonna be late). I ended up calling at 6:45 because I hadn’t gotten a reply by email. He said I was disrespectful and yelled at me several times. We got there around 8:30 and he was once again rude. We apologized but he went on and on. He even went as far as talking down to us that we were out driving at night.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This property is very nicely maintained & so are the cool comfortable owners & always smiling staff. Good collection of books & card stuff. Good place with off beat experience & must try for people travelling from akureyri to arnarstapi-reyjkavik / vice versa to get some relax time.
Cons: I request owners to keep few horses, this is such a lovely setup , but without horses it looked little offbeat
7.5 Good
Pros: Quite a nice stay in a farm. Room was ok. Breakfast was average.
Cons: Position was nice but somewhat remote. They forced us to check in before 8pm even if we had to go back to a 20’ drive location to dine even if it was basically a self check in location, having before confirmed over the phone that we could check in anytime.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The host is very friendly and she invited us to visit their stable. The place is countryside and quite, but you might step on horse manure...
Cons: It is low season, so you can smell a humid, not fresh smell in the room.

Pros: I love the guesthouse. It showed me the strength, optimism and toughness of Icelanders. We had a nice chat with the host who had offered a simple but nice breakfast for us. And we learned something interesting from him. In spite of some dying flys in the room, everything’s perfect. Thanks !

Pros: Veru nice and cozy bedrooms, nice shower, nice hot tub and the breakfast was really good. Really friendly staff
8.0 Excellent
Pros: - The room was big, clean and comfortable (bigger than most room we stayed in Iceland) - This guesthouse is a good base to explore Vatnsnes area, definitely recommend one who plan to explore the area.
Cons: - There is no grocery or restaurant around here (you need to manage your schedule to book the restaurant in advance or do some shopping before get in the guesthouse, however the guesthouse itself has restaurant) - The location in google map is not precise, but not too hard to find.
3.8 Mediocre

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Spacious and comfortable room. Very good restaurant.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A fantastic Welcome from the young lady on reception on 20th June, she was really lovely and made sure our stay was perfect. We stayed in the White Cottage and were really comfortable and felt at home. The other young lady who served us dinner and breakfast was lovely too and added to the enjoyment of our short stay. Perfect quiet location, wonderful accomodation, and the food was superb, a very high standard.
Cons: nothing, it was perfect

Tiny kitchen but everything we needed was there. Very good and spacious shower. Nice to see sheep while you are cooking in the kitchen. Cons: bathroom is a bit small

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice family-owned place in a scenic remote place. The breakfast was superb. The internet connection was unexpectedly one of the best I encountered in Iceland.
Cons: The price could be a bit lower, However, considering that it's family-owned and is in very remote location, I think the price is justified.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Staff are reasonably friendly.
Cons: Rooms are really small. Some of the rooms are literally in the basement. No body wash and shampoo provided.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was a welcome surprise.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Reception service and information they had for first time tourists, food was quite delicious and fresh. Lounge/dining seating was quite good.
Cons: Room was bit smaller than expected. Shared bathroom I will not go for next time in any hotels. Location of hotel was quite off road.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Relatively inexpensive when I booked Close to Hvitserkur rock
Cons: The night we stayed the shower’s drain was blocked. Water overflowed and flooded the bathroom and part of the room. Staff came immediately to dry up the floor. Their double rooms were fully booked, so they made available the bathroom in a single room for the other guest to shower. Although the staff was helpful, it was quite an inconvenience and these issues should be part of the daily checks before letting a room. Also, the basement area, where our room was located, was generally pretty humid.
4.5 Okay
Pros: The food was good and close to an attraction. Breakfast was also included.
Cons: The hotel is quite outdated, which could have been part of its charm, however the beds are creaky and feel like they will break if you move in them. The noise of trying to get comfortable kept us up. The windows were steamed up during the morning and had a lot of condensation on them.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Good location
Cons: Back curtain not thick enough and not big enough, especially in summer time.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very basic rooms but lovely staff and very good breakfast.
Cons: Some rooms didn’t have a proper window because they were located in the basement.
7.0 Good

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything else was great. Despite being a shared bathroom establishment I felt I was in a four star establishment. In addition to everything being clean and well maintained, there was attention to detail i.e. a powerboard in the room (who doesn't need that these days) , making sure the kettle in the room was the right height to fit under the available taps to fill it (how many times have I had to fill the kettle from the tap by using a cup), a chair at the entrance to sit while putting shoes on and off, etc.
Cons: Flights of stairs made it difficult for me with health issues.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Free car wash, kitchen, fridge, good shower, comfy beds. This is great for an overnight stay if you want to cook your meal. Basic necessities all there, nothing flash. But the host is lovely - we left two thermos flasks there with soup and hot water on the kitchen table. I rang and asked if a bus might stop there on the way to Akureyri, and she very kindly offered to ask if people were coming this way and could drop them off. They were waiting on the step this morning
Cons: Bathroom cramped for a large person, but lovely shower.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice experience to sleep in a gas-station. Very calm and comfortable, even if its a bit more expensive than other Hostels, I had a huge room with 2 chairs, a desk, a bed and a couch.
5.0 Okay
Pros: it was more a hostel than a guesthouse, too expensive for the services offered. It was very clean though.
Cons: They gave us a double bed, as requested. The room decor was really nice, and very warm.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The location is right off the ring road. The business is actually a gas station, antique-shop, rudimentary camp ground, and guest-house. I stayed in one of the 4 rooms in the back. Shower/washroom is small but functional. Bring your own toiletry. There is no free wifi (not sure if there is any available wifi...) Kitchen is fully equipped for cooking. Host is friendly.
