The hotel is beautiful and decorated very well. Location was convenient. The garden was lovely and so was Mary Claire. Sign should have been illuminated. The owner made offhand comment about the door banging, my ability to use a coffee pot, and implied that maori people can't eat the same things as white people, much in the same way one would say a dog can't eat chocolate
Very impressed with Ian, I presume the owner. He went out of his way to assist when asked, even provided his vehicle to take my wife and I to a function in Kaikoura. Everything was fine.
We were pleasantly surprised. The unit was comfortable and warm. It was well priced. Great to find somewhere that is animal friendly, this made our trip a lot easier.
Excellent and polite service. We arrived very late after a delay on the road and the owner couldn't have been nicer about the interuption. Location was very good, not directly in the centre of the centre of the town, so you didn't get noise. Room was a great size and had everything you needed. Very happy with our choice.
cheap rate. The room was extremely cold. the heaters were very ineffective. Washing and drying facilities were the dearest we encountered in our 4 weeks in NZ. Asked reception to book a taxi into town. The taxi was extraordinarily expensive $24 each way from memory, this was due to it being a shuttle not a taxi as such. I would have liked if this was pointed out to us when requesting the booking as it was possible to walk to town centre.
Situated on one of the outlying roads from the center of Kaikoura, the building have thick brick walls and quiet surroundings. Our bed also had an electric blanket which was pleasant. The fridge, oven and cookware made for a nice way to have a meal at the hotel. The owner was also quite nice and picked us up from the train station. The buildings are a bit dated and with no central heating, they can be quite drafty and cold. The bathroom has a slotted window which opens directly to the outside and allows for insects to come in. Because they're attracted to the light, our bathroom was quite full of bugs when we left the light on.
