What are the pros of staying at City Hotel Nieuw Minerva?
Nice staff always cheerful. Great location and very helpful staff! Breakfast is good enough. Each room is decorated in different style. Historic building in a great location. Loved everything. Great staff (super kind) and wonderful position. The bed was very comfortable. Nice hotel right in central Leiden, with a channel road in front. Very nice view from the rooms to the road and channel, quite enjoyable place. Great staff, super friendly. They let me check in a bit earlier so I could change for a wedding. The room was nice, clean, modern shower/bathroom. An excellent location. Distinctive interior. Friendly & informative staff. Great location. Staff were amazing, very helpful and cheerful, location fantastic. Location is excellent right in the middle of everything. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very clean and comfortable. Great location and views on to the canal. Could store bikes in side room safely. Very quirky hotel - nice. location and staff. perfect location; lots of character; great breakfast; staff who couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. Perfectly located in the middle of town, facing one of the main canals. Staff was nice, they offer quite a good discount on the city parking place (10 mins walk, 13.5 euro/day vs 21 full price). Perfect location, good bed and á vera nice staff.
What are the cons of staying at City Hotel Nieuw Minerva?
the noise from outside was terrible. Steps in bathroom very dangerous. No mini fridge in the room. Chilly in the room. A fridge and a safe would be nice. A few more snack facilities in the bedroom would have been appreciated. ie. tea, coffee, teaspoons , milk (instead of dried powdered milk) and perhaps a biscuit or two please. Water pressure in shower could be better but perhaps it was related to being on top floor. I won't have breakfast there again. Its very basic, which would be ok for me if the price wasn't 15 Euros. I especially didn't like the bedbugs and the funny smell in the room. Bathroom too small, no space for cosmetic tools. Nothing. Nil. All ok. The bed is extremely soft to the point you can feel the spring, the room is small and you can hear people on the street quite easily, there are also no elevators available. The noise from the window was incredibly loud and disturbed mine and my friend sleep on both nights. I was also disappointed that the Body wash and shampoo were all in one… for the price of the hotel I would have expected more I think! As an aside - the company we ordered a taxi with (recommended by the hotel) did not come through! Brought this up to staff and they were helpful and understanding… Our room was a good size but a little dark. All good! The room was very dated , tired in need of refurbishment. We loved everything. The room was very basic, the wallpaper was dirty and coming off the wall, the carpet tiles were grubby and worn. The bathroom was very basic. The lighting was very dim. The mattress was lumpy. It was like staying in a hostel not a hotel for E150 per night. The pictures on the website are nothing like the room we stayed in. The room described as The Comfort Room which was totally misleading. The bed was old and uncomfotble, laminated flooring was cold and the room very sparce. It wasn't very comfortable. The room was tired just like the rest of the hotel. Paid 15 euro for a breakfast which was very poor/limited. Lot of staircases and no telephone to contact reception.. was going up and down for few things. We stayed in one of the ‘character’ bedrooms, which was very old, hadn’t been decorated or upgraded in years, and frankly had some weird decorations and memorabilia. The en-suite bathroom could really do with an upgrade. furniture a bit old - but this was not an issue. Wallpaper/decor was very dated. Made Motel Six seem luxurious. Could have been cleaner. Manager unhelpful. Quite small room and a lot of stairs.. The bathroom floor was very cold, poor water pressure in the shower. climbing the narrow stairs, but worth it. Quite expensive but that I guess is the price for staying in downtown Leiden. Breakfast also was quite pricey, so we did not take it. Hotel is nice but rooms are a bit old, creaky and somehow smelly but again that's what you get to lodge in a typical old Dutch house, so it is not a complain, just a warning so expectations are clear!
