The trendy boutique Shelter Hotel Los Angeles is just right for its location in eclectic Koreatown -- tucked away from the hustle and bustle of L.A., yet very central to many of the city's attractions. Free parking on the premises is a breath of fresh air for guests who've rented cars -- most of L.A.'s hotels charge a tidy sum to park.
In the Heart of Koreatown
Designed by Lisa Strong, this unassuming hotel surprises its guests with spacious, comfortable rooms, along with apartments designed for longer stays. Contemporary decor is accentuated by unique contemporary furniture, comfortable pillow-top beds, and chic bathrooms. In-room amenities include big flat screen televisions with over 100 channels and iPod docking stations. WiFi is free and works well. Shelter Hotel Los Angeles is perfect for those in search of some peace and quiet and convenience at a reasonable price.
The hotel is two blocks from Wilshire Boulevard and its plentiful shopping, and is less than a four mile drive from Universal Studios, Hollywood, and Downtown L.A. Shelter Hotel is also quite well-connected by public transportation to the rest of the city, making it possible to get around without a car (a rarity in L.A.). While here, don't forget to explore the trendy neighborhood of Koreatown, with its winding streets, non-English signage, and interesting places to shop and dine.
The cleanliness and locaction.
Rooms were nice and better than expected. Parking easy and free. The staff were very helpful and even mailed an item I left behind free of charge. I've been in much bigger and more expensive hotels who would not do such a thing.
Free parking but not centrally located so had to drive everywhere.
Bathroom was not clean: hair and dirt all over walls. Walls also were poorly constructed and caving in or puffing out in multiple spots. Seemed cheap despite nice fixtures, tile and touches of marble. Also had two yippy dogs barking a few doors down that ruined stay. No fridge in room also disappointing.
The hotel was clean and cute. Its not in the thick of things if you are there to site see but its also not far from things like the Griffith Observatory. Its not a bad hike to Santa Monica either.
The parking situation sucks! There aren't enough spots so at night cars get blocked in. The staff expects you to give them your keys so they can move your car if needed, however, if you are a tourist, like we were, you likely have a rental car. In your rental agreement, no one else is allowed to drive the car. The parking lot if very tight with concrete beams so there is a very large margin for error. If the car is damaged YOU will be held liable by the rental company because you do not have an agreement with the hotel. The alternative is for you to drive 20 minutes looking for a parking spot or just keep your keys and if it needs to be moved they will call you. At 2:30 am, the gentleman (I use that sarcastically) at the front desk our first night kept threatening us with phone calls should we not give him our keys. Fortunately a non-guest who had parked in the parking was leaving and we took her spot. Not the best customer service and there is no disclosure regarding the parking situation.
Bedsheets looked dirty and got stained
Cute and cozy
A little further away than we thought but it was fine
Shower water backed up
it is close to philippine immigratio..
the restroom has no exhaust fan, parking is small the room that we got smells like piss, hate the wood floor
Very friendly and helpful staff! Great that this hotel has hard floor. The area is calm. Parking in the hotel garage is free.
Americans seem to like very soft beds, I hate them. The doors to the rooms appear a bit skew. One more chair per double room would be nice.
Absolutely nice young staff, really huge and clean rooms, big plasma TV, free and stable wifi. Close to subway. Quiet street and neighborhood. Approximately 20-25 minutes travel to downtown and 30-35 to Hollywood by public transport. All in all one of the best places i've stayed! Prices are very reasonable for this level of service
Superb staff who really made a difference, excellent central and safe location with free parking, and very clean.
The space of the rooms and the ambientation. The wi-fi and the parking included in the price.
The room has not enough furnitures for cloth and lugagge. The bathroom is small in comparisson to the room.
The staff were helpful and informative. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was big and nice.
The Hotel seems unfinished, small details were not complete in the renovating
