The offer of tea as it was raining outside. Their restaurant was closed for the season so I was captive without a car and 7 miles outside of the closest town, so it was great to have tea and it was complimentary. Since we had no car and weren't told that there was no restaurant open, the wonderful caretaker servedmy husband and I some cold cuts, cheese, and wine in the cozy sitting room as a substitute for a real dinner. It was actually quite pleasant and it was warm and antiquey in the sitting room. The shower head and the water pressure made the hot shower really enjoyable.
The websiste did not state that the restaurant was closed from November 1 to March 1 so we had no meal options. The taxi from Lucca to Locanda L'Elisa was expensive, and we certainly didn't want to spend it again two times that night to go into town to have a dinner. Also the bed was the worst for comfort I have ever slept in. It was hard as a rock. The room was so elegant, the the furnishing so castle like, that I expected a nice bed like the "Heavenly Bed" at the Excelsior in Florence where we stayed for four nights prior to coming to Lucca and Locanda L'Elisa Hotel. There was also a dead cockroach in the fabric which upholstered the ceiling in the bathroom. Bad lighting - no bulb above sink. No light for reading in the sitting room.
It was one of the most delightful hotels that I have ever stayed at. The country setting, the subtle landscaping of the hotel grounds with the variety of trees and flowers and the relaxed arrangments at the pool, were all very agreeable. The staff were both welcoming and friendly and did everything they could to anticipate any need. On one evening when my dinner arrangements fell through, they russled up a pizza out of nowhere, late in the evening. When I left, very early on the last day, they spontaneously arranged a simple breakfast. I love to see good professionals at work and I couldn't help but think, that if your Manager engaged himself in training the staff at other hotels, the Hotel Industry would improve one thousandfold. Thanks
One difficulty I experienced was the signposting of the entrance. On two occasions, on the busy S12, when a quick decision to turn was needed, I turned into the drive just north of the hotel entrance. A Big, well-located sign, would be both useful and safer.
Staff were very helpful especailly a man called Ronnie. rooms very comfortable and bathroom had plenty of extras
poor choice at breakfast
Thr grounds & hotel are beautiful but you really need a car to get around (we did not).
The air conditioning did not work and they made a minor adjustment in consideration
The staff were very pleasing and could not do enough for you .The location excellent , you would need a car .
There were some problems with the AC systems . and for me badley designed bathrooms .great for Italians but not for man size Americans .
The room was bright, large and very well done. It had been a Relais Chataux and you can see why.
The enterance to the hotel was on a very busy two lane road. Traffic moved very fast. Exiting was a nightmare. Blind spots in both directions. Very dangerous.
Wonderful accomodation, attantive personnel and cosy atmosphere. This hotel is one of the best i've ever stayed. The rooms are romantic and beautiful, perfectly cleaned up every day. The restaurant is not so expensive but the food was delicious. We didn't need to go to eat out anywhere. All in all everything was perfect.
The staff were curteous and helpful. Lovely country house in an excellent situation about 5mins from walled city of Lucca. We were upgraded to a junior suite on arrival which was lovely.Only downside was that beds were very hard and the garden could have done with a bit of a pruniing!
Very peaceful atmosphere, the pool and garden were very nice. Did not notice the motorway across the wall.
The food at the restaurant was very expensive. Quality justified a certain price level, but maybe not this high.
