Location and price were right
proximity to the train station room was spacious enough No kleenex
Great location, within 2 blocks of central station downtown Hotel is 100% computerized- you check in and out on a terminal Very easy and efficient. The hotel rooms are very small, like staying on a cruise ship, economy class. The rooms are very spartan with a small beds, a desk, a chair and small bathroom. Otherwise, they did provide a good wifi signal. If you don't mind clean and spartan, this hotel would be great when in Oslo.
Nothing. Not as represented. Old Hotel not kept up.
Comfort, breakfast Noise during the night from outside.
location poor business center (only 1 computer, tiny) poor barkeeper in Grand Cafe: did not know his sherries nor acquavit: served both different sherries and aquavit than asked for. door to french balcony could not be closed properly letting in a lot of noice during the night.
This is a warm hotel which seems to appreciate its customers. The room was an elegant modern design filled with quality. It was attractive and stylish and contained a very comfortable bed. We really liked this hotel and will stay there again.
The carpets in the lobby were lovely! The staff at reception when I checked in were not very helpful. I was waiting to be attended to and they dealt with three other people who came in after me. There was also three fire alarms going off in the afternoon. Each time I followed the fire instructions and went downstairs but there were no staff there to advise me when it was safe to go back in or what had happened. When I was leaving via the stairs the third time, there was a workman vacuuming the staircase and he told me not to worry and that it was nothing. Not a very professional attitude from any of the staff.
The location there has gone a lot of things wrong for us at the grand hotel unfortunately. there has not been room cleaning the whole weekend. the video system dind't work proper and this could not be solved. the spa we couldn't make use of with our 2 1/2 year old, because he should be 3 years. unfortunately they could only inform us about this after we were dressed in our bading suits. the hotel staff wasn't very cooperating.
Excellent Hotel and superb staff
I liked the location of the hotel it was very central and the staff we very friendly. The foo was good and the hotel was very clean
location was great. breakfast was poor and needed to wait for the coffee very long. Rooms need renovation badly.
Perfect location, nice and service minded staff all over.
Very well designed and friendly staff No problems with this hotel
Location was great, breakfast was really enjoyable, great selection of food. Swimming pool could have been warmer.
We usually book better hotels which the plaza is. But the one advantage for this hotel is location. It is within 500 yards of the main train and bus terminal and a short walking distance to the heart of Oslo and the City Sentrum.
Huge hotel with all pros and cons. While the halls might make you feel like in a submarine, the rooms especially those of the higher floors offer a beautiful view and are also with a great comfort. Staff is extremely friendly, restaurant & bar in the 34th level is a must.
Great location right next to the rail station. Very nice hotel and room. Excellent breakfast. No power plugs near the bed. Bed only had bedding for 1 person, even through we specified 2 at reservation and check-in.
Large, well appointed room, great view, free Internet, free movies, very good breakfast buffet. Excellent location for bus and rail travel.
We had a clean and comfortable room. The view from great - we were on the 16th floor. Very helpful staff.
The roomview of the city (floor 30), decoration of the room, and the facilities of the business room; good room for a couple with a baby, nespresso machine, free pay TV, free breakfast in the room... The door of the bathroom does not work properly. It is close to the central station (good for travel and airport) but crowed.
Good food Location Great view Fast service...minus the bar. Bathrooms a bit dated. Wifi was spotty. Business center computers so old they weren't comparable with any up-to-date programs, so I was not able to conduct business as I wished.
Close proximity to train station and airport Right in the center city very busy lobby and breakfast area
Arrived late, got bags and extra bed delivered. Breakfast room service - awesome meal! Great location Strange drunk or druggie people outside hotel between hotel and train station. More than other EU capitols, all begging for money.
An established hotel in a lovely parkland setting with Oslo fjord close by. Excellent helpful staff and large room with comfortable beds. Nothing to complain about but the hotel is quite old now and some of the furniture and fittings could do with replacing. However, this added to the charm of the place.
Comfortable beds Location not ideal. No pool or spa.
This hotel is close to Oslo Downtown
Neigbourhood - quiet, nice place with a lot of greens. Close to sea. Compact, narrow hotel room. Poor ventilation / ac. Old fashioned design from early seventies.
We booked this hotel as our other choices were unavailable due to a conference. We knew it was not centrally located, but we did not expect to find a hotel with such limited dining and drinking choices. Luckily town was only 10 mins away by bus. Buffet breakfast was poor to middling. There was a huge section of unavailable tables (reserved) but noone filled them before breakfast finished.Hotel decor is very dated, with patchy, worn out carpet. The elevator was disturbingly rickety. The "beach" was in disuse, even though it was the middle of June. This hotel is more suitable for conferences etc, but without some renovation, we wouldn't revisit it.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Well furnished and maintained. Bright and airy. Good general comfort and cleanliness and a really nice location for a city hotel. The room was rather too basic for the price - no kettle or iron and very small. Based on my own recent experience an equivalent room would be cheaper in London, Paris, Munich, New York or San Fransisco. I did like the hotel though.
Very easy to get to the city
The time I booked, all Oslo was booked, and that was the only reasonable option I could find. The bed was very uncomfortable. The location is really not for a tourist; it is outside Oslo.
nearby bus stop very bad breakfast buffet (empty bowles, no service, no refills, etc.)
Breakfast Buffet was good. Location is good if your only interest is to be near the Telenor group headquarters. Room very small, worn out, & cold. Bed very small and uncomfortable. Bathroom was dirty, especially shower curtain
The restaurant The location is difficult to find. The amenities are sub par and the rooms are in desperate need of remodeling
A comprehensive buffet breakfast inclusive Lack of coffee shop facilities/snack bar as no room coffee making facilities are available
exceptionally good was the breakfast, very wide variety of anything you can wish for and great service( michael from the brekfast service was very helpful and gave a great service!). also the view from the hotelbar is great! the "business class" rooms were a little bit old fashioned and run down, but clean and everythign was there.
I stayed 2 nights for a city break and found the hotel fine in particular I found the sauna a welcome relief after touring the city all day. The breakfast buffet had everthing you would want with good quality ingredients. It was a good location just a 5 min walk to the main street karl johans. my only fault was the room was a little small (twin queen were 2 single beds although comfortable) with no tea coffee making facility which is a pity especially when walking around the city all you look forward to is a warm cup of coffee to relax in your room, the hotel lobby was dated the chairs were quiet worn and the leisure facilities (pool) was freezing!!
Breakfast The room was old and not entirely clean, staying at this hotel was a true disappointment, not value for money at all!!
Friendly staff, nice room and very clean.Good location. We decided to have a meal on the night we arrived in the dining room, waiter said how good the food was,he took our order and we ordered a bottle of wine then he returned to say all that was available was a burger. Not good for first impression.
The staff was excellent - they helped me recover my kindle when I accidentally left it on the airport shuttle. They also helped me with directions and provided assistance in finding my way around Oslo. The breakfast buffet was very good as well. Room temperature was a bit warm for my taste - the ac was apparently not on yet (early spring), so I could not make the room cooler.
Stig the Receptionist at front desk who tried to rectify the problems with our rooms My wife and I arrived on the 17th August 2015, and on attempting to check-in we were told the "computer system" was not working and therefore we we not able to check in. We were told to either wait (they could not provide an estimate on how long it would take). After a 15-min wait we were checked in "manually". As an American Carlson member, I presented my Club Carlson Gold card, but it wasn't accepted because my trip was booked through Kayak! Nevertheless after a short delay we were in our room. Immediately we noticed that the carpet in the room was dirty, and there were 2-single beds (as opposed to a double as we booked) Credit to the front desk staff who promptly reassigned us to a "newly refurbished" room. The room was a marked improvement over the last, and we happily settled in; unpacking our suitcases and preparing for an afternoon of sightseeing. On return in the evening, we prepared for the night and around 20:00 we tried to lock the door. The door lock did not work. A call to the front desk and a couple of minutes later someone from maintenance was at our door. I explained that the door wouldn't lock from the inside and he insisted that the lock was working. I was a bit taken back by his curt response, but nevertheless invited him to try. What followed next had me flabbergasted! The maintenance employee closed the door, and using his body weight proceeded to to yank on the door handle until he could engage the lock. Curtly he replied, "There it is locked". I attempted to unlock door by turning the lock itself and when I couldn't he demonstrated how to unlock the door. Standing on his toes and again using all his body weight he pressed down on the door handle until the lock disengaged. Again the curt response, "There it is unlocked". I couldn't believe it! Visibility annoyed at this point, when I pointed out that locking the door in such a manner would be a fire hazard (not to mention my wife will never be able to unlock the door if I locked it), he suggested that I actually didn't need to lock the door as no one from the outside could get in without a key. In response I stated that any member of staff could enter if the door was unlocked, to which he acknowledged was true and said I could either call the front desk to arrange a new room, lock the door as he demonstrated, or leave the door unlocked; but there was nothing he could do to fix the lock. Another call to the front desk and we were offered a room on the 20th floor. So after repacking we moved to our 3-room for the day. From then on the only issues we faced were with our room keys. Every time we left our room, the room key would not let us back in. So we had to make our way to the front desk where they would make a new key. Every time without fail!
The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The swimming pool and sauna had free lockers and plenty of fluffy white towels. The breakfast was absolutely amazing. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others. The booking details were totally correct. Thank you. No.
Very nice breakfast in nice room The interior of the rooms is "dated"
Breakfast buffet was nice, good location Didn't really have air conditioning -- our room was really hot which was disruptive
Very slow/non-existant Room Service.
The roof bar and the location with a nice walk to the city center.
We don't know what we would have liked because our reservation was cancelled on the morning of our flight to Oslo because of a hotel workers strike. Obviously, we didn't like the need to find another hotel at the very last minute.
Most appreciated was the polite and efficient staff
Breakfast according to expectations with Norwegian touch.Magnificent view on the National Theater (front view) is worth asking for. City center location with access to all nearby landmarks of the city center. Room was rather cold (no temperature control possible).
Breakfast The bad was not clean and in the room was pretty cold.
This hotel has all the needed facilities and is perfectly located in the centre of Oslo. Despite agreement there was no early check in possible and no coffee/tea facility available. The TV was also very old.
Great hotel with fantastic location in the city center. Everything nearby. Staff is extremely friendly and help you with all your questions. Especially the bell-boys at the entrance. The restaurant in the hotel (Theatercafeen) is the most famous one in Oslo and also very nice to have a diner. a lot of business people. Cosy restaurant on 1st floor (Gourmet) and nice lobby-bar for an afternoon coffee. Free use of computer, printer and internet. Facilities in the room are super. Fantastic view (ask room on higher level). Would certainly visit hotel again for a next stay. Oslo is very very expensive...but that is in whole Scandinavia.
Yes, good location and good breakfast
Alt er på en viss god stabil nivå Astronomisk pris for å brke internett i lobby.
Breakfast was great Rooms were small, pillows were terrible.
The rooms were well appointed and the staff was top notch. Scandic's location in Oslo was great, minutes walk from the heart of the city.
The breakfast was quite good. The rooms were not clean properly (Dust and hair). Carpet was filthy. Water boiler was unhealthy. Due to an extreme noise level our first room (9th floor) was changed. The bed was uncomfortable and it was very difficult to sleep two persons in it, being way too soft. The extra pillow in the cabinet was full of hair. The lunch/Xmas buffet came with a surprise, a black/short curly hair on the ham. The male receptionist should not be working in a service oriented job. He had a very arrogant attitude.
Best location, good breakfest
Fantastic breakfast, excellent location.
Hotel is clean, breakfast is outstanding, good bedding Some staff members are helpful, and some are not
Nice location in the middle of town. Didn't have any problems during my stay. Hotel room is basic but clean. The breakfast selection is huge, and I think typical for most Scandic properties.
Amazing breakfast (included everything), very clean, great spot, exactly downtown, very helpful and polite staff, It was my first time in norway so i cant compare with other norwegian hotels, but this one seemed amazing.
Very nice breakfast buffet. Perfect location near Stortinget and Nobel Price Center.
Great Location, only 5-10min walk into town, also situated by a tram stop. Is in between a new trendy bar/restaurant area and town. Nice warm rooms for Cold Oslo! Breakfast was good and is served until 11am which is a bonus.
Terrific value in Oslo. Walking distance to Munch museum (very close), central station, as well as downtown and harborfront area. Good, affordable (for Oslo) restaurants nearby. Hotel's extensive breakfast was much appreciated given high prices for food in Oslo. Taxi stand right out front and very close tram service was extremely convenient. Our room was plain, clean, and provided everything we needed. We were surprised by how quiet the room was, even being right across from the elevator. I would definitely stay at the Anker again in the future.
the staff are friendly, the rooms are clean It was our first trip and first stop in Norway in our life, our expierence with parking by Anker Hotel was absolutely terrible and we will not recommend this place to anyone else we care and will never visit this hotel again. Ankel hotel has a parking place BELONGS to a private parking company. But on the entrance of the parking it's written clearly: Q-Park Anker Hotel. The parking lot welcomed us with a fine of 80 euro, while we were trying to pay the parking fee in the hotel, in about 10 minues before we returned to the hotel. Anker Hotel claimed they are seperated with the parking lot and asked us to complain to the parking company. How can a hotel list its name on the parking place without being responsible for the parking management? We have to pay this extra 80 euro for the 10 mins absence while Anker Hotel claims nothing to do with it. Therefore we regret our stay there and will never come back again.
A nice 3 star hotel central to downtown oslo good breakfast, and staff friendly. No bad points that come to mind.
Efficient toaster available at breakfast - not always the case in Norway!
clean hotel. helpful staff. very nice brekfast selection. easy access to city centre asked for a jug of ice water at nite time, receptionist was only able to provide a glass of water and no ice. ice is a fairly basic thing to provide, day or nite.
Breakfast selection good. Good value for.money
Everything is as advertised or even better. Some of the staff members look inexperienced. Their English is not very good and they apparently don't know all procedures very well. Note that other staff members are very experienced and were very helpful with everything.
There was alot of renovationg happening so the hotel was constantly extreemely noisy. Plus they began with the drilling and Jack Hammering at 9am on a Saturday morning! We were very annoyed by this and would not stay there again.
Location close to city centre and River Aker. Good public transport. Filling breakfast. As expected much less noisy than in recent reviews during refurbishment which was largely complete. Cooked breakfast options disappointing especially rubbery scrambled eggs.
Good breakfast and location Rebuilding work in hotel was noisy and outside the advertised hours of 11-1600 (0745-2100 on one occasion)
The comfort, internet access, the central location, comfortable rooms, little noise it was easy to see that all the fruit on the breakfast table was sliced the day before. It would have been more delicious with fresh sliced. Equal with the "agurk". Since I'm not at coffee drinker I would have liked green tea.
Great breakfast, terrific central location. Rooms were small but quite functional.
Staff were very helpful and friendly. Location couldn't have been more convenient.
Staff was very helpful and friendly. Location is great
location, morning meal
Location is great next to train train. Buffet breakfast is excellent. If you have early train connection than this is the number one choice. No airconditioning switch you have to ask staff to change the temperature in the room and they will change it for you. Airconditioning is there just no controls.
It was very convenient for my specific needs (traveling from airport to connect with a tour). I was particularly impressed by free Internet connection. Nothing comes to mind.
The location was excellent with easy access to train station and downtown shopping. Very nice staff and clean room.
great location in the station, clean/new
The location is excellent, 3 minutes from central station (buses, metro and railway), walking distances from the port and the center of the city, opera, etc
Friendly staff and excellent location
Location, close to the city center
Excellent location, great buffet breakfast, but a minimalistic approach to services; basically, none. If one is set to act one's own, it is a great location. no real services at the hotel
availability of business suite for internet access
Good location - short walk to train station and airport express train and close to new Opera House. Good bedrooms and bathroom.
I liked the fact that the room had a bathtub and nice big bathrobes. They breakfast was very ordinary, I would expect a little more from this hotel. But breakfast was still good.
The chair in my room was unstable. The housewin in the restaurant was bad. The breakfast wasn't impressive. The reception button on the phone did not work.
Easy access to the town centre and next door to the beautiful opera house in Oslo.
Thon Hotel Opera is new, stylish, reasonable priced for Oslo and the location cannot be beat! Right at the train centre it is within walking distance of the major sites to see in Oslo.
Good breakfast, nice rooms and very friendly staff
When checking out, I was charged a bit more than the price given in the booking confirmation. I have sent an e-mail to the hotel about this.
We found this hotel clean, modern, friendly and classy. The breakfast buffet was enormous and delicious. -
Nice hotel, great location!
Excellent breakfast! The air conditioning system in the room was too noisy, it was like being on a ship.
My room and the convenient situation of the hotel The road works outside made access difficult but this is not the fault of the hotel.
Breakfast buffet was excellent. Location was excellent. Staff good. Price very high!
Public areas good for meeting free coffee and water Room modern but very small bed in strange location claustrophobic
Itis central located
The hotel is in a very central location. The staff was very helpful.
free Wifi internet The hotelroom was far too small for the price
Location Very expensive and the service was not great. I would search for something else next time.
Very nice and cozy hotel in the heart of the city and near the central railway station me and my husband liked it all
Locatio, next to central station the concierge gave me wrong directions: number of underground train stops from the hotel to reach Majorstuen.
Very clean and new. The staff was very helpful. The terrace was a great place to hang out and plan the day and in the evening, have a beer. Very good breakfast. No coin laundry nearby. Be aware that this is a cashless hotel. That's not a bad thing, just don't plan to use cash for anything. The single room is tiny. Bed, restroom, entrance, area to step off bed--each make up a quarter of the room. The sink is too small to wash a shirt in. Don't plan to hand wash anything.
Clean rooms, friendly, helpful staff. There was only one lift and it was slow.
all day tea and coffee!!! breakfast also was superior!
It is a good city hotel, and nice with free coffee through the day! The reception staff forget to inform about get stamped the carparktickets to get 15% off !
it was good value for money and clean
Good location, sensible cost, nice rooms (ours had lovely view), good breakfast
The central location, close by Oslo Central Station, and the staff was excellent. The lift was a bit of a nightmare and the breakfast room was totally inadequate for the number of guests. Queing up for items and walking into each other is really something that you can do without first thing in the morning.
The staffs are very kind, frinedly, the access to centrum is very near to walk.
Good value for money in usually expensive Oslo. Only 760 NOK for a spacious double room and central location close to the Opera.
comfortable bed. breakfast good
Probably the nicest hotel gym/fitness center in the world. Location is excellent, only 2 blocks to the Central Station. Good breakfast, friendly staff. Rooms are somewhat spare, but clean and comfortable.
No fuss, good service, close to the station
The place is quite ice with a wonderful breakfast and competitive rates, but... The hotel uses a rope style security chain on doors that is child proof. My mother Is a strong retiree but couldn't open the contraption She became so afraid, she pulled at it so hard, the system failed only because it is simply nailed into a thin decorative door frame. Thank goodness no fire for those trying to get out, or any burglar who can easily break in (if he has the strength of an 85 year old.
its a 4star hotel. good! good! prices of food at resto, but understandable, its 4 star
The servant at the dinner was very, very good! The meal was also very good! It took more than one hour to receive the main course..
Look of the hotel, views from the hotel, helpfull staff (we got an excellent recommendation for a restaurant) I requested a double non-smoking room upon reservation. At hotel they gave me a twin room at first. We I didn't accept, I got a double room. But non-smoking wasn't available anymore.
We've got a nice view as requested, excellent breakfast. The bus (1B) connection from the train station to the hotel was very poor. It was rarely on time. Even worse, the bus usually left before the train arrived. That means the passengers have to wait for the next bus. There was one day that we and the other guests of the hotel were waiting for a bus in the rain for more than half an hour. ... To improve this, during the construction of the railway, the hotel should have provided a shuttle bus service to pick up their guests at the last stop of the train line 1. That would make this hotel even more attractive...
the place has a something special about it, fairy tail style part of the hotel (used as a conference centre) is really different from usual modern hotels. It has spa, which is good after you came back from Sking (just 10 min drive). Beautiful panorama of Oslo City is open to see from mostly any open side of the hotel. It was not possible to get any !!!!! food after 10pm, as everything except bar was closed already. we were coming late and didn't even got chance to get bread and butter.
The quite time away of the city. The ten minutes walk from the bus stop. The add did not specify that rooms with view are extra. I would have paid more for the excellent view.
Breakfast is amazing!
Great restaurant "De Fem Stuer" The hotel building in Dragon Style is a feast for the eyes, and what is inside is good too. Right outside from the parking a one hour hike to Frogner seteren begins (for working off the calories). The bar is not well stocked with wine; however, the restaurant is.
We were camping and were looking for a nice alternative in Oslo due to bad weather. The Holmenkollen Park Hotel Rica was an excellent choice. We liked the building style of the central part of the hotel (the extension building with the hotel rooms is a normal building) and the magnificent view overlooking Oslo Fjord from the hotel room. The breakfast buffet offered a wide range of different styles of breakfast and should make everybody happy. Holmenkollen subway station is nearby (10min walk down the hill), so the hotel can be easily reached from the city centre. At the time of our stay (August 2009) the subway track was being upgraded and there was no service to Holmenkollen station, but there were high frequency bus replacement services.
Very attractive facility with a magnificent view of Oslo and the surrounding countryside. Ample beakfast. Free internet. The restaurant is very attractive but the food was oversalted to the point of being inedible. Although we checked in just before 3 pm, our room wasn't ready.
I liked the standard of cleanliness. The breakfast buffet in the morning. The access to a washer AND dryer. The proximity to attractions. The outside architecture. The separate dorms. The small size of the dorms. The option to have ensuite dorms. The stark white halls That the lights were always bright in the hallways at night when others came into the room.
Location Twelve strangers in a small cramped space. One chair in the room with practically no place to sit even to put your shoes on. Not sure what all the rave reviews are about. Cleanliness is average for a hostel. Received polite service from one representative, the other could not have cared less if he was there or not. Free Internet did not work for me but I did not pursue the issue to fix it and I noticed others were using it. Average breakfast.
Everything is clean. Recent fresh renovation has the Hostel/Hotel looking tip top from bottom to top. Beautiful lounge. Kitchen. Sheets and towels are Included. Sink in room. Lockers in room (Bring own lock). Seperate room for showers and toilets, keeping your shower low key. Everything was wonderful. The price.
Friendly, clean, good breakfast
