Lake House B&B - Dunmanway - Building
1
9.9 Excellent (86 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Lake House B&B in Dunmanway, you'll be 14.6 mi (23.4 km) from West Cork Model Railway Village and 19.4 mi (31.3 km) from Bantry House. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Lake House was superb. We were greeted with fresh scones upon arrival. The room & view were beautiful (we wanted to take the bed linens home with us). The hosts were incredibly friendly, couldn't do enough for us, and truly exceed in running this b&b. One of the best stays of our nearly 3-week trip.
Cons: Nothing - everything was perfect!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What can we say, everything about this place was superb! The house itself is gorgeous, sitting on a small private lake. The hosts - Susan and Gordon (and Jack the dog) - were so lovely, welcoming and eager to help and make our stay there a vacation we won't forget. From giving us advice where to tour or letting us enjoy some nice activities on their ground (Gordon knows what we liked the most! :)). The breakfast, made per order, by Susan was delicious. The room we got was big and very clean and can easily accommodate 4 people. It had decent size in-room bathroom and like small powder room. The beds were so comfortable so it felt like sleeping on a cloud :) Thank you Susan, Gordon and Jack, we really enjoyed our stay with you! P.S: Arriving there late at night (it wasn't an issue at all with that with the hosts - they waited for us) required us to drive through narrow roads in the dark. So it is highly recommended to consult with the hosts prior to coming and plan your drive or use GPS, while not taking the shorter distance but rather major roads that are easier to drive
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hosts. The view from the room was stunning. The breakfast was superb.
Cons: Nothing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was delicious and so much to choose from with a lot of home cooking and homebaking. The location of the property was stunning. The host Susan is such a lovely lady and couldn't do enough for you.
Cons: This is not a negative and just for your information you would need a car as the property is a bit far from the nearest town. It is in the countryside (not saying this is bad) as opposed to town/village but definitely worth staying here.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were greeted by Susan with tea and homemade, delicious scones and also Gordon always made time to have a chat with the guests. He even showed us around his farm which we enjoyed so much as you can feel that Susan and he put their heart and soul into their farm and B&B. We instantly felt very welcome and enjoyed the inspiring chats with them. The breakfast was wonderful with produce from their own farm and from the region - it did not leave anything to be desired. The location by the lake is idyllic and peaceful - especially in the mornings - and the house is beautiful, our room was perfectly sized and cozy. Perfect location to explore Cork. Unfortunately we only stayed 2 nights - we'd come back anytime.
Cons: It was perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was 1 mile out of Dunmanway very tranquil and beautifully located near a lake. The rooms were spacious and clean and have coffee and tea making facility. The girls stayed in a family room that had an additional room for putting on makeup .. Breakfast was home made brown and white breads with whatever you liked, eggs laid by their own hens, lively fresh fruit and yogurt as well as a great selection of cereals.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Pretty much everything was perfect - our hosts were so nice and accommodating, the breakfast was outstanding, the rooms were so comfortable - it was one of the best places we ever stayed in!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely amazing property - beautiful house, perfect room, stunning location and marvellous hosts - a real home from home.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was our second stay with Susan and Gordon at their Lakehouse B&B and it was perfect again the 2nd time around! Susan and Gordon and their family are amazing people and hosts; they truly make you a part of the family. The property is absolutely beautiful and relaxing; it's the perfect spot to unplug and unwind. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to spend some peaceful moments with family and friends. Much love and Thanks!!
Cons: I'm not sure there is anything that I do not like about the Lakehouse B&B. The property and facilities are amazing, the hosts (Susan and Gordon) are great hosts and the location is quaint.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This property is impeccably kept. The grounds are beautiful and the home is spotless. Susan and Gordon are lovely hosts. Every detail has been thoughtfully cared for by Susan. Their boxer Jake is so friendly and we loved walking around the lake with Jake and watching the chickens. We wish we could have stayed longer...every minute was heaven!
Cons: We loved everything about our stay!

Pros: we had a lovely stay we where satisfied the host was extremely friendly.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic breakfast and we also enjoyed our evening meal.
Cons: We had a room on the top floor which was very warm. As it was a very hot spell we had to have the roof lights open. Unfortunately this meant we were disturbed by a function in the pub which went on into the early hours. Again, because it was hot people were outside chatting and laughing. Just bad luck really. Otherwise it was a lovely comfortable room and the hospitality of the lady who runs it was outstanding.

Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: staff are excellent
Cons: everything was perfect
7.9 Good
Pros: All very much as expected as we have stayed in this hotel before.
Cons: The room we were given had many black surfaces which really showed up a lack of a good dusting regime. One of the air conditioners (there were two) would not give out warm air. Needs attention. Also one thing almost guaranteed to be needed in Ireland most of the year is a coat and yet there was not one coat hook in the entire suite apart from the one on the back of the bathroom door which could not be considered for "normal" coat use. This suite was apparently used as the Bridal Suite so it was not a small room. It had lots of wall space but not one coat hook. Our coats ended up being dumped on the floor !

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Atmosphere of the inn. Restaurant.
Cons: Bed too hard. No soap dish in shower.
7.5 Good
Pros: Food was excellent in the bar. Lovely staff members in bar and at breakfast the following morn. I thought receptionest could be more friendly. Mold in shower and the plug hole in shower was not clean looking and there was no filter in the shower drain. Not draining properly as shower basin fills up after 2 mins. Could do with a bit of domestos. Bed very comfortable. But I would stay again.
Cons: Shower cubicle. Meldue in shower. No filter in shower. It was missing. It looked grubby. Could do with domestos. Couldn't find any book in room about hotel facilities. Should have one.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a great place to vacation for a week. The restaurant/bar are excellent atmosphere. The food was excellent and I really enjoyed the house/region stout from the brewery right down the street. The staff are super friendly and very helpful. The owner is always around and interacting with the staff and the customers. Great people!
Cons: This was a great place and very centrally located. Nothing poor to write. One thing to note is they do lock the parking lot gate from 00:00-07:00. There is areas outside of the gate to park if you have to leave early or come in late.

Pros: Brilliant Gem of a hotel. More Inn than Hotel, but all the better for that. Bedrooms are fantastic (mostly antique feel , some with four-poster Beds. Bar/Restaurant is always very busy but service is far quicker than you expect. All Staff are lovely to deal with. Have stayed here 4 times now (always at the same time each year) and while the service, food etc. has always been brilliant, the Hotel is getting busier each time......can only be a good sign.

Pros: Food excellent
Cons: Nothing couldn't fault it
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The bed was perfect
Cons: As the entertainment was limited in such a small town ,a bit of entertainment in the bar wouldn't go a miss. But what i didnt like was a group of very drunk individuals in the bar at 5 o clock ,and when i returned for a drink after dinner thesr muppets were still being served.that was my only gripe.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Friendliness and convenience and relaxed atmosphere.
Cons: I was very elaborately duped when booking with you. I ticked the breakfast option totalling €240, (without breakfast was€204). I later got email saying I could still book breakfast!!!! Price to be paid was still €240. Please do not explain this away with ability to cancel!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a gem hidden in the small town of Millstreet. It is in the very center of their charming main street with ample parking as well as a bus route just steps down the street. The room was both beautiful and comfortable. The cleanliness was 5 star. It was a treat to have coffee and gingerbread biscuits each morning in my room. I loved having a full bath and hot water was abundant. I was in a king room with a beautiful bed. I had the best night of sleep I'd had in quite awhile. To top it off, the staff were courteous and went the extra mile to please. I was given a kind and friendly welcome after a harrowing journey to get there... I was quite frazzled but they took it in stride... helped me with my luggage, making sure I had everything I needed. It was such a pleasure to be in this lovely, pastoral place. I tried to stay an extra night but they were fully booked! Would gladly return.
Cons: Not a thing. It was one of my best experiences. Even the pub/restaurant had good food for reasonable prices.

Cons: Even though the house was only a few minutes drive out of Millstreet we managed to get lost in the dark. A sign post to Tir na nog would be a good idea, though Jane did give good instructions, which helped us find her lovely home.

Pros: Pillows I normally find pillows too bulky in guest accommodation. Really clean and comfy. Oh and a great shower.
Cons: Nothing really.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Breakfast good. Location good for travelling to Millstreet
Cons: Room not in main hotel. Carpet very stained. No lock on outside door. Window was very moldy and there was a damp feeling about the room.
5.4 Okay
Pros: The staff was very kind
Cons: First they gave us a key to someone else’s room and were surprised by someone in the room! We had also booked two rooms, letting them k ow our children were traveling with us and requested rooms together. Originally they had our rooms in separate buildings! Once we got that sorted we noticed that there were spiders everywhere in the halls and bedrooms along with cobwebs. The hallways smelled musty and almost moldy. The TVs were tiny, maybe 8”?, and mounted up from the ceiling so impossible to watch anyway. The pillows were hard as rocks and the worst we’ve experienced on our 10 day trip. Nearly all of the dishes at breakfast were dirty and things were not getting replenished. The fruit bowl didn’t get refilled during our entire meal.
7.5 Good
Pros: The window in the bedroom badly needs to be changed it was moldy and dirty. The shower area of the bathroom was moldy too. Needs to be cleaned or painted. Bar man was exellent what a super personality he has. Bed comfortable
Cons: The window in the bed room. And the mold over shower. At 180 for two nights with no breakfast is way tooo expensive. €15 extra each for breakfast I could go to a finer place for that

Pros: Dinner was very good breakfast was poor not much of a full breakfast selection no pudding mushrooms beans

Pros: The food was good and abundant . The room was of good size
Cons: the hotel was good value for money and you pay for what you get. It is a busy enough place and has seen loads of visitors and it shows. It could have been cleaner but was ok.

Pros: Great food and lovely bar staff. Michael was especially helpful.
Cons: Teeny tiny black and white tv. Not a major issue for us though, but may be for others.

3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Location
Cons: Could be cleaner. Very noisy
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff were exceptionally friendly,
Cons: It's rather basic hotel, but they do it very well...and it's exceptionally good value for money
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location is just perfect and has free parking places!
Cons: Couldn't get tooth paste on the place and breakfast food selection was quite basic (Yougurt with few types of müsli)
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff are really nice and helpful. The room was huge; a family room with three beds. The Seafood Chowder was amazing; it had every kind of seafood available in a nice creamy sauce.
Cons: I wasn't impressed with the availability [or lack of] parking within the Hotel's premises. The choice was on street pay & display, or find a space outwith the metered zone and walk. The windows didn't close properly, so the room was cold and noisy from the street below
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The friendly staff
Cons: Perhaps some entertainment at weekends
6.3 Good
Pros: Not much to be honest.
Cons: Very limited options for breakfast, very slow on taking my order and when my food arrived I never got any toast. The TV in the room was tiny and even though its one of the old style tvs it worked but 4 channels all of which have very poor reception.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Had to ask for the cot We had asked for, we also had to use our own mattress. Babies should not be put in a room over the night club. Shower did not heat up, kettle did not work. The food was excellent especially breakfast staff great.
Cons: See above
6.3 Good
Pros: The evening meal was excellent
Cons: There was no light in the bathroom and I was charged for breakfast which I specifically stated on my booking form id did not need it - last occasion was I was not charged for the breakfast.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Modern room in an old building, large and clean. There was some noise across the road until midnight, but afterwards it was very quiet. Good breakfast, although the breakfast room is a bit dark. Friendly staff, we had good dinner in the adjoined restaurant.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: (1) Breakfast was perfect (2) Location (3) Free Parking (4) Staffs attitude
Cons: (1) The electric kettle in room 109 needs to be replaced or cleaned. There seems to be a layer of oxidation inside the kettle which I have 2nd thought of using it to boil some water for my tea/coffee. (2) Prefer to have a fixed lighting rather than the automated ones along the corridor leading towards the rooms. It is a but eerie at night going back to the rooms.

Cons: The television in the room made a high pitched whine while it was on and the wifi was slow.
