Great location, very convenient to everything in Palo Alto. Good parking. Some upgrades to the room. Included a small kitchenette. Exceptional bagel place withing 1 minute of the motel. Staff was polite and efficient. Motel was fairly dated. Water pressure in shower was terrible.
It had a siting room and a small kitchen( microwave, sink, small refrigerator. The heater/ air conditioner was in the siting room and not the bedroom. Somewhat cold in the bedroom for this time of year. I also felt the price of the room was somewhat high for this time of year. There is no workout room.
Palo Alto is full of more affluent folks, so it was wonderful to find this nice reasonable family place. Wi-fi, newer bath and lighting, comfy duvet, and 24 hr staff to answer a traveler's questions. Variety of restaurants and a Sunday Farmers' Market to enjoy. Coronet added to our pleasure at seeing the grandchildren. Glenna
Very friendly, helpful staff. Location right within Palo Alto. Traffic/street noise; could hear my neighbor next door. Older facility. Price for what you get wouldn't make sense anywhere else except in Silicon Valley or Manhattan.
I just liked everything about it nothing really negative. If I had to be picky the fact there wasn't many movies on the tv but everything is HD so how can I really complain?
It was in a pretty good location since it does have a Palo Alto address and is right on El Camino Real. But, it is not right in the heart of Palo Alto near downtown or Stanford. They do offer a free bag of chips and free water (Kirkland brand) in the room. And, there is a coffee maker if you need it. EVERYTHING! This is a total "bait and switch". The website presents a cute, quaint hotel both through the photography/logo and language that is used. It is anything but. I looked in the closet and saw an old, used "Days Inn" paper cup (why has the closet not been cleaned out!!!), and it made sense. This must be a former Days Inn. The rooms are motel-style where they open into a parking lot. They feature a weak chain for the door. I was 1,000% disappointed, especially for the price. The website said, "our continually updated, one of a kind guest rooms feature plush beds, modern bathrooms, and a full array of amenities." This place is nothing like that description. It is not at all updated. It was formerly a Days Inn, and it looks like an old, out-of-date Days Inn that would be better in a low-end neighborhood not Palo Alto. The only good thing about the room is that it had a large flat screen TV with Dish Network. And, there is free wi-fi. The beds have no headboards, the pillows are bad, the bedspreads have stains, the lamp shades were cracked and showing yellow water stains, the furniture is way out of date, the hangers were old, the room is super small (had to put the luggage rack in front of the entry door to have room). The bathroom is bad – the door didn’t even close all of the way. The towels are like loofah sponges - very thin and really rough. I noticed wear spots on the carpets and the walls were dinged and nicked. And, sadly we paid $238/night - $270+ with taxes/fees (based on the language and imagery on their website). It is really bad. I would AVOID this hotel like the plague unless they offer a super, super low rate. The lady at the desk claimed that they were renovating (I saw no evidence). I highly recommend you wait until the renovations are done and then give it a try (but, only once you have photo confirmation of the end result). If their renovations live up to the website imagery and language (and price), then this will eventually be a fine local hotel. But, right now, it is not good at all. The lobby features tired wood paneling and very tacky decorations. And, they offer a "grab and go" breakfast, but it is super basic with plastic packaged muffins and danish. I highly recommend you avoid this hotel!!
You could hear every footstep from person in the room above.
Located close to the Stanford University campus. Murals painted on the exterior walls in the inner court yard are an interesting touch.
The Stanford Motor Inn was two miles from my appointment with Stanford University Medical Center and was an easy commute. I found my stay to be quiet and clean so I was happy.
Friendly staff. Beautiful plants and flowers, especially pool area. Convenient to Palo Alto. Convenient to several restaurants. A bit downscale. Older motel with few room improvements. No elevator.
It is a good place to stay..and nothing bad about it
for the price it was very clean and in a good location. I would stay again.
I was very disappointed overall and would definitely not go back. I moved the next evening to Best Western Mountain View and this was a much better hotel for the same price. Poor cleanliness, noisy and internet did not work.
There was a refrigerator in the room, tv, wifi, and a bed. These were the good things. If there are any other suitable choices in hotels, do not stay at this one. Paying a bit more would be worth it. It was dirty and quite smelly,
I love the two room suites. They are two bedrooms and a small kitchen area for a price that cannot be beat. The hotel overall is a good deal and close to lots of good food. The outside is undergoing upgrades but the rooms are clean and quiet and spacious. The pillows are small and the water pressure in the shower was not awesome. I'm not sure if the water issue is due to city usage restrictions or not, but my water was cold by the end.
Room was good (big enough and clear), location is excellent (not so far from Stanford Univ.) Hotel really has no breakfast room
Easy parking. Quiet. Musty smell in room
It was very clean and it was obvious they were actively remodeling and it was very nicely decorated.. I travel a to. And honestly I realize that hotel beds are not the best, however I honestly looked to check if I wasn't actually sleeping on a boxed spring that is how bad it was .. Worst ever!! And usually when a mattress totally sucks you can position your pillows to help. Well that only works if your pillows aren't the size of throw pillows the small kind and hard as a rock flat.. In retrospect they were probably sold as a matching set with those bedrock beds..
convenient and inexpensive, nice staff...room fine for the price, close to everything you need in the area
nothing It was a dump, paid to much to stay in a run down room in a bad area
The staff was helpful and friendly very quiet Parking to little
It was close to all major retail and major roads. This should be 4 star motel.
There was no hot water, the front desk person said I should run the water for 10-15 min. Who does that, especially in California where we have severe droughts. The windows haven't been cleaned in months
This hotel was surprisingly safe, clean, and spacious for its budget price.

Location was great. Walking distance to restaurants and Target was a plus. Television remote. No directions and buttons on remote were unreadable. Had to guess how what each button was. Also they had satellite with no instructions on how to turn on (took about 1/2 hour to figure out).
Location & staff are excellent; very nice, family oriented people and close to shopping centers. Accommodations are comfortable. Rooms are appropriate for the price but need better upkeep. No real coffee or breakfast.
convenient location, cheapest price in area The pastries for the included continental breakfast all contained artificial colorings which are harmful to many people. The lights were not set to have a light go on when the switch by the door was flipped No sheer window covering, just blackout drapes
Desk clerk went out of his way to help with the TV problem. Wasn't his fault that their satellite service didn't supply access to the Warrior game. Microwave and small Fridge were welcome. No clock in room. No tray in shower for soap, etc. The huge negative is that their satellite service does not provide access to the Comcast channel. Inconceivable and totally unacceptable.
Ground level convenient to parking. Convenient tp PA hospital for VA O ;logged on the the hotel web site and notice Priceling was showing a $75 rate, while I paid $95 thru Booking.com. Note a good reference for Booking .com
The flat screen tv was about the best thing there. However, it was inconvenient to have to use two controls for the tv. One control was to change channels, the other control was for the power and volume. Our towels were stained/dirty, pretty thin and worn out.
Rooms were immaculate. Locally owned by people who obviously care about the comfort of their visitors. Housekeeping clearly took pride in their work.
location, easy to get to.quiet. small rooms.i didnt like the bed and found the pillows to be uncomfortable.stains on the blanket above the bed sheets.
nice clean convenient
Good value for the money No complaints considering the price
This hotel was close to my project. The staff was friendly. Dirty rooms. First room smelled like a bum was there before. Old cigs and beer. The second room that they gave me was cleaner, but reeked of cigs. You could hear the traffic and trains very clearly. The only reason why I stayed here was because all of the good hotels were booked.
helpful staff comfortable bed great shower head aged facility, needs better maintenance thin towels, low quality linen
Proximity to Laundromat, free internet, and the bed Staff often not available or not helpful. Room not cleaned on time.
Swimming pool. WiFi was inconsistent, price was way too much. "Breakfast" was served in a small room with a couch. If you are in the bay area, maybe check out another city to stay in, the owner said all hotels/motels in the city go for over 200$.
No wifi connection Old / dirty furnitures Poor breakfast
Clean, fast WiFi, nice art print on the wall. Adequate parking, and of course a low price in a costly area. Lumpy bed, loud and not very effective AC, laughable breakfast, bit of a sketchy vibe if you're the sort to spook easily. Slow front desk everything.
It's inexpensive for the area. The INSIDE of our room was fine. Obviously they're trying to remodel the place, one room at a time. Ours was done. It was spacious and clean. The OUTSIDE of the place is horrendous and under slow construction. The office and the grounds are gross, the people hanging around are a little bit seedy.
Quiet way in the back Under constructionOverpriced for qualityHorrific
It was available the night I arrived Major Construction on facility, Very Old, Paint peeling from walls, people smoking outside rooms. Way to much money for what I got!
They are remodeling, looks closed down when you drive in. Advertised wifi but had very weak reception,in fact they moved us to another rm and in both rms we had to go outside to connect. Several kids Toys, bikes of management remain in parking lot.
beds OK though. horrible place. RIGHT by the train track. stay away
Very clean and being updated. Owners were polite. Had a tv, frigde and microwave. They are doing repairs so some things arent working properly. Our heater didnt work and the toilet kept wanting to overflow. No coffeepot, but Starbucks is a 5-10 minute walk.
I really liked staying here. It was very close to Cal train station. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable. I would highly recommend this place to everyone! The hotel was pleasant, with very courteous staff. Since the price was very low, we didn't really have high expectations when we arrived so what we did see we liked and found very acceptable. Not luxury but then again we didn't pay for luxury. If you want peace and quiet, which is what we wanted, this is perfect.
NICE HOTEL , GREAT SERVICE AND ROOMS ARE CLEAN. NICE RENOVATION
I like this motel, will come again. Good service. Nice friendly staff.
As seasoned travellers who have a reasonable sense for the level of security and cleanliness, my wife and I say that this 'hotel' is rated 'Unacceptable'. We will sleep in our car before sleeping here. \nI would not trust my family's safety in this area, and I certainly wouldn't leave anything of value in this hotel. The neighborhood is 'challenging' at best. If you read this and have doubts, then I can only suggest this; Having travelled into Mexico, Belize, Canada, Europe and USA; we have seen and travelled into 'poverty' and stayed there. \nHowever, this is one of those 'hotels' that is a 'NO WAY'\n
the motel is very small but the people are very nice. we had trouble with the t.v. and they fixed right away. I would stay there again
San Carlos Inn is nice place to stay in the San Francisco bay area. I am happy with my stay at this hotel. Nice, very clean and quiet. I checked in 2 am with no issue clerk was very nice and helpful. Very safe neighborhood its very easy to get train for San Francisco. There are numerous great restaurant in San Carlos Downtown near by. The front Desk was friendly and courteous--we asked for extra pillow and towel and they provided with no problem. Bed was comfortable and the TV had lots of channels. I don't understand why people are so picky- this isn't some fancy five-star place. This is the kind of place I like to stay at.
My husband and I had went to CA .We wanted to visit SF. so we intended to stay south of the city. I was concerned because it was such a reasonable price for the room. Seems you get what you pay for, quite often. I was so thrilled to find a very very nice room, a small fridge and microwave, pretty quiet and safe. We were even more thrilled to find a grocery store a block away and the either way. After spending time in the city, we were VERY please with our choice of location, and specifically hotel. We will definately stay at San Carlos Inn again.
I was pleasantly surprised with my stay. I would highly recommend.
I received good wireless service with a clean and comfortable room.
For some reason, this hotel has received positive reviews on some online travel sites; unbelievable. I stayed at this establishment once and in doing so was able to determine that I will never stay here again. Upon arriving, the staff was rude and not very accommodating. I was checked into a room upstairs that was in complete disrepair and possessing a foul odor. The bathroom needed work to bring it up to 1950's standards. The towels and linens were threadbare. I had to cover the pillowcases with my own clothes so that my face and head were not subjected to hairs and anything else that happened to be present. Lastly, the lock on the front door was broken so I had to work to ensure the room was secure. The aforementioned are the highlights of this facility. When one considers its fairly consistent cost structure, you are far better served sleeping in your car.
It has been upgraded and I would highly recommend this place.
Great price, comfortable rooms, great food options nearby. Overall, this place isn't fancy but I would stay again for the value.
