10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location just under the fortress and by the riverside, walking distance to everywhere needed. Lots of parking space around the hotel. We had a massive terrace on the ground floor with great view over the river, rooms higher up seemed to have smaller balconies but probably even better views. Spacious room and refurbished bathroom, very comfortable big bed. A lot of light from the patio glass doors. Helpful and friendly staff, possibility to rent a kayak - highly recommended if at all interested. Went right after the sunrise and the views from the river were brilliant. Breakfast was excellent for the price and coffee good. Overall just fantastic experience!
Cons: There could be a fridge/minibar in the room, but nothing else comes to mind.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Museum pieces in the hotel. Warmth and efficiency of the staff.

Pros: The view of the River Guadiana is great from the room. Location within Mertola is ideal...central and close to all bars, castle etc and yet very peaceful. Mertola a good base to explore from. Good walking country.
Cons: A fridge in the room would be useful.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent view of the river. Very spacious room with an extraordinary balcony.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: A friendly hotel in a good location with the added bonus of being built over archaeological remains that we could visit. The breakfast was good with lots of choice and the staff were helpful and knowledgeable about the area. It was only a short walk to the old town and local shops and restaurants.
Cons: As we went out of season we found that some of the restaurants weren't open and a couple of the many places to visit were closed for maintenance. This was offset by the lack of crowds and beautiful spring weather.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was our fourth stay and everything was still excellent!
5.4 Okay
Pros: Probably we stayed out of season but hotel was mostly deserted. Reception often empty . Breakfast was adequate and room not over priced but hotel had a depressing empty feel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Easy walk to attractions. Easy parking. Restaurant recommendations. Prompt and friendly service.
7.5 Good
Pros: The view
Cons: No kettle. Hard to control temperature of room as linked to 4 others. Basic breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: An elegant hotel with a contemporary finish - clean and very well-serviced, with a good breakfast selection and access to affordable and varied lunch/evening menu choices (including regional specialities) in the local restaurants. We had one of the rooms with a balcony and river view: it was an absolute gem. Many people travel through Mertola, staying maybe for just one night or two - our decision to stay for a whole week was absolutely right for us. The sights and museums in the town deserve attention, but with a little careful map-reading we found several superb hiking routes, gravel tracks to isolated spots on the river and even (in February!) took the opportunity to 'wild-swim' in the lakes ...

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Carlos is a perfect host. He was great to chat to, and his local knowledge is excellent. He gave us lots of ideas for sightseeing. He is very welcoming and generous. His english is excellent.
Cons: My wife found the bed a little hard for her liking. It's very narrow streets are beautiful, but if you are driving there from VRSA direction, take the first right immediately after the bridge, up the narrow cobbled road on the outside of the castle walls. Driving through the town to the accomodation was an adventure.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Carlos is a super friendly guy and loves to talk about the area, the house and it’s history. His house is a gem. Bear in mind if travelling by car that the lanes are tight and parking limited, but it’s worth the effort. Our room was a little bit chilly, but we were there in January with few other guests to heat the entire house for. Good little cafe at the old town entrance for a cheap pizza and beer meal too.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and tips from the owner
Cons: All good
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Everything else was great...spacious traditionally decorated room with use of shared living spaces inside and out.
Cons: The damp smell of the room.

Pros: We were upgraded to a bigger room on the main floor. Bright, quiet and spacious. Beautiful furnishings. Two friendly cats in courtyard (kept away from main areas in case someone is allergic). Would stay here again. Obrigada o Carlos.

Pros: The house is beautifully renovated and furnished. Location excellent. Kind and helpful host. Highly recommended!

Pros: Ricardo and his mother were wonderful and gracious. Could not do enough for us. His mother was very hard working and made from scratch a deliciou coffee cake we had in the morning
Cons: nothing! nothing!
7.9 Good
Pros: Mertola Natural lies about 18 km outside of Mertolas, which means quite a bit of driving, if you want to go for dinner. On the other side it is very quiet and you have "dark nights" which a good glimpse on the sky. Beautiful little pool and everything is very clean.
Cons: The receptionist didn't talk one word of English and it was not possible to get breakfast before 9am, perhaps because we left on a Sunday?
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I was visiting Mertola for an event with an early morning start, so I only really needed a place to sleep for the night. I wish I had been staying longer, because the property was very pleasant, clean, and quiet, and I didn't get to fully take advantage of it. I would definitely consider staying there again if I return to Mertola.

Ecoland Turismo Rural - Mértola - Building
6
8.4 Excellent (74 reviews)
5.4 Okay
Pros: Very clean. Relatively close to the park where we wanted to hike. Hostess was friendly and provided some useful, local information on the natural areas nearby.
Cons: Although very clean and recently renovated, the unit was extremely dark. Darkly painted walls, very low lighting, even in the bathroom, small window. Probably better for younger guests or in the heat of mid summer. No real attempt to provide breakfast due to our admittedly restricted diet - no gluten and vegetarian.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly owner provided maps for walks and advice on suitable activities and restaurants. Good location in the center of the park. Good breakfast.
Cons: A little dark in the room in winter.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location. Very quiet and peaceful. Hosts are very helpful. Overall a lovely place to stay!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: If you want to be completely out of the way, this is the place. I spent two nights here and it was perfect for exploring the area. It is decidely rural, so if you're looking for entertainment hot spots, this is not for you. Hiking, motorbiking, cycling, yes. A big bonus is the hostess, who is not only helpful and gracious but also professionally involved in developing the region in ways that are environmentally aware. As such, she is able to give her guests a distinctive insight into the region and its possibilities.
Cons: Dogs yapping in the village, but that comes with the territory ...
5.4 Okay
Pros: A friendly host who received us with a helping hand and hints and tips for our day trips.
Cons: The towels were a bit smelly and didn't dry at all, besides they didn't get changed, which would be okay if they'd have dried. We are sure though if we'd have asked Claudia would have given us new towels. The room was quite cold, despite the heater we were given, but that surely is an advantage in hotter times.

Pros: The view was amazing and the room very comfortabel.

Pros: We arrived in the evening in Mértola and found a nice lady welcoming us... speaking only Portuguese. But I tell everyone: if both side have good intentions, you will always connect. In the end we got a small vocabulary lesson in addition. Was great fun. As it was very hot at that time, the air condition worked great for a really relaxing night in a clean, well equiped room with a very new bathroom. The whole stay was great and unfortunately when we decides the next day to book another night, there was no room left for a second night. But best recommadation for this hotel! :)
