Pros. The location was perfect for enjoying downtown Mexico City and the service was amazing!
Cons. The internet service was very spotty.
Pros. The location, staff, view of the Zocalo and Cathedral were great. It's a gorgeous historical building. Very beautiful architecture. I went back in time. It was like staying in a museum and being allowed to touch all of the artifacts. The view from the terrace was breathtaking and a great value. I would stay there again. Sunday brunch buffet on the terrace overlooking the Zocalo are worth the trip to Mexico City and should be on the "Things to do in Mexico City" list.
Cons. I expected that a building this old would be somewhat obsolete given today's demanding consumers. But the bed was really stiff and door to the balcony didn't shut well and I was afraid that someone from an adjacent balcony to break in to our room. The painter painted some of the tile edge. Also, the hot water pressure in the tub was very slow. With the exception of the water pressure, I felt that it wouldn't have cost much to have fixed the others. The wi-fi was a bit slow but I expected that the thick walls with years of leaded paint would come in to play. Wi-fi is not a reason not to stay at a historical building.
Pros. Enjoyed the fact that the majority of staff was readily available to assist and they were professional.
Cons. There was at least one staff member (day receptionist) was unprofessional and was not willing sharing information when I inquire about transportation. He was rather disrespectful.
Pros. The location is perfect for exploring Mexico city. This is a beautiful hotel. The colonial architecture is beautiful to the eye. The view from the balcony of the street life and zocalo was always entertaining.
Cons. It is a bit loud at night but this is to be expected. Bring ear plugs. The lighting for reading in bed at night is terrible.
Pros. The overall decor has an authentic feel—not at all like a standardized, cookie-cutter hotel. The buffet at the restaurant is excellent. Being just a few steps from the Zocalo is fantastic, with easy walking access to lots of great sites. And the value is exceptional.
Cons. My only complaint is that the wake up calls I asked for never came, and taxi van I asked for in advance, and been promised ("no problem") was not arranged. Fortunately, neither of these ruined our experience. We had three rooms, and we all set our own alarms, so the lack of wake up calls (3:45 AM the morning we flew home) didn't screw us up. When I got to the lobby at 4:00 AM, I found both the overnight staff (desk attendant and concierge) asleep on the couches. No van taxi had been ordered. They were able to hurriedly summon two smaller taxis for our group. Otherwise, the staff was both friendly and professional.
Pros. Location and staff cannot be beaten. Very attentive and cordial.
Cons. Needs some investment. The linens and towels were very old. Internet connection was horrible. However the location and staff made up for the shortcomings. A little investment in the furniture to include lobby and rooms chairs and beds would go a long way. More attention to pillows and linens could place this property as one of the best in the city.
Pros. I was in this hotel 30 years ago. So, just I wanted to stay here again with my family. I enjoyed so much this time with them. Actually we celebrate my daughter's birthday and of course my birthday too. we born the same day on August 15.
Pros. The architecture is wonderful. The elevator was quite cool! The location was extremely convenient to sight-seeing. The view from the roof-top restaurant was spectacular!!! The staff was extremely accommodating.
Cons. The room was in need of repair. (e.g. shower soap dish was in pieces, low water pressure, door handle broken.) The Cathedral Metropolitana next door has a clock that chimes on the hour and half-hour. All. Night. Long. Sleep was elusive!! Avoid rooms on the 6th floor since the restaurant is on the 7th floor. They start preparing the room for breakfast quite early so you will be awakened by all of the tables and chairs being dragged about. Some way to control the temperature of the room would have been appreciated.
Pros. Our room had a great view of the zocolo.
Cons. A little noisy on the zocolo side.
Pros. The staff was so nice. The location was great. Breakfast overlooking the Plaza Nacional and the food was amazing. Also loved the old architecture, decoration and authentic style of the inside and outside of the hotel.
Cons. The internet never worked which I needed for my work as a journalist on deadline. The bed was the same as sleeping on a slab of stone and the room had no temperature control, no fan, nor a screen for a window. As I had to work in the lobby to get any sort of internet, I obtained over 31 mosquito bites that are still bothering me.
