Pros: Wonderful helpful staff, serene space, beautiful clean huts, organic materials, comfortable beds with mosqitonets. Feeling of privacy even in the dorm. Much love and care is all over this wonderful place, i would definetily come back! 10 of 10!
Cons: Nothing!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice atmosphere and good place to meet other people. I loved the "hammack area". The "blue book" is fantastic and give you personalized recommendations about what to do in Mompiche
Cons: The shower is very basic (1 pipe) but I think this is quite common on the coast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything. It‘s so calm and so quiet. It‘s the perfect place to relax. It‘s the cleanest hostel we‘ve been to on our six months travel. We spent two nights in the dorm and four in a private cabine and both was absolutely lovely! Mendee id such a lovely person. Always helpful, always up for a chat, always really friendly. Oh and we fell completely in love with the hostel-dog max!
Cons: everything was perfect
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Bed was nice and clean. The lodge is made out of bamboo so it's exotic. :) Staff are trying to maintain place the best and very friendly.
Cons: If it rains you'd better prepare earplugs cause it's sooooo loud and there were no basic cooking ingredients such as oil and suger.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A cute little hostel on the entrance of Mompiche (3 minutes walk to the sea). The owner Mendee is very nice and you get in contact with other travellers. There is also a kitchen you can use and a small bar, where you can buy beer for a very low price.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to the sea on a distance from the loud music you find Mudhouse. A beautiful hostel with bamboo houses and an outdoor shower. It is super clean, people are amazingly sweet with sincere interest in your stay, fun and they will make it a great time. We were a little unlucky with the wheather, but still we enjoyed it a lot and stayed longer than planned. I didn’t wanted to go, but time didn’t let us stay longer. So next time I will be back! Thanx for the great stay! And good luck in the future
Cons: Nothing, the muquitos were sometimes nasty after the rain. So take deet with you
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place to relax. Dogs are very gentle too. Not in front of beach, but still close from beach.
Cons: Mosquitos!!! ㅠㅠ
10.0 Excellent
Pros: One of the best hostels I've ever stayed at! Beautifully set-up with an eye for detail. Quiet spaces all around the property to chill out and relax as well as a bar where it's nice to hang out with fellow travelers. cute mindful reminders to take care of yourself and the environment. Super nice host (thanks Mendee!) Highly appreciated the fact that you got a welcome email with a lot of useful information regarding buses etc.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing hostel. Very nice comum areas, an amazing yoga deck with some macas, perfect for a rainy day. It have a kitchen equipped with a coffe machine and some games and books available. The rooms have a really good size and clean bathrooms. The owners are very friendly and the Hostal have a very good energy. It’s in a very nice location since you’re not in the middle of the village, but yes 3 min walk. You will wake up and fall asleep with the sound of birds. Totally recommend!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: My stay here at the Mudhouse was so good! Mendee is super helpful and has all the information you need to make your time in Mompiche the best! The hostel itself is beautiful and really close to everything. The local shops are a minute walk away and the beach is literally 3 minutes which is great. The rooms are brill, lovely and airy and plenty of room for all your things. A well-equipped kitchen with everything you need too and the bar opens every evening to sell beers-- perfect!
Royal Decameron, Mompiche, Ecuador - Mompiche - Bedroom
8.9 Excellent (798 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Offering direct access to the beach, this Mompiche property is 1.2 mi (2 km) from Playa Negra Mompiche and 3 mi (4.9 km) from Mompiche Beach.
4.5 Okay
Pros: The only good thing about this resort is their beach.
Cons: Upon arrival we were treated in such a horrible way, we had arrived to the hotel at 12:15 after departing from Quito and having to drive for 6+ hours to get to this resort to then be told that we can’t enter the property until 3pm despite there being nothing mentioning this in the booking or no communication from the hotel (and they did have access to contact me as the personally emailed me to confirm that the details were correct) now we knew that checkin might be at a later time but we just wanted to be given access to the resort, have a drink and chill after such a long drive in the heat. But no the security guy told us we had to wait outside the resort baring in mind you’re near nothing, not a restaurant or shops he said we had to stay outside. I wasn’t having it especially after how much we paid to be told to wait almost 2.5 hours to be able to relax and have a drink so I asked to speak to a manager he bluntly said no “he will say the same thing I have just told you” I was so angry at the lack of customer service from the man. And even after I spoke to the manager, the manager did nothing about our unsatisfying welcome and just ignored us until check in and told us we can only wait In the lobby until checkin at this point it was merely 1.5 hours until check in so I didn’t mind I was just glad that my grandmother could sit comfortably and stretch her legs and my parents could start to de stress and enjoy the start of what we assumed would be an amazing get away.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great Breakfast and Dinner and the beautiful location.
Cons: You can see, that the Hotel is 10 years old.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good range of meals and drinks for all inclusive proramm. Good arrangement of shows and activities keeps the accomodation area quiet. Perfect system of the pools.
Cons: Only top management is speaking English - nobody else.
7.5 Good
Pros: The view from the room was beautiful! The property itself was pretty with greenery and flowers. The pools seemed to be very clean.
Cons: We did not have hot water in our room. I would rate the food quality at all restaurants as 'ok', with the exception of the seafood restaurant and we were impressed with the food there. I felt that the overall value was not worth the price we paid. We were also offered a 45 minute time share presentation to receive a 3 day/2 night stay...only to find out we need to PAY for the 3d/2n package...
5.5 Okay
Pros: The food was fantastic. The buffets were well appointed and the food was abundant. We also enjoyed the services of the spa. A beautiful and unique location with a nice variety of services; although priced VERY high end. The natural, outdoor steam room was AMAZING; it felt like an oversized pizza oven! The natural stones with the herbal water for steam was just an amazing experience.
Cons: All the pool and jacuzzi areas were closed at about 7:00 pm. Jacuzzis were all cold all the time. The beaches had extremely limited access. The drinks were far below average, served in small flimsy plastic cups, and service was bad. Lines for everything were long. Everything felt very regimented and controlled. There was a large number of security staff. The property is massive and very spread out with lots of stairs to get to places. The rooms had a severe lack of warmth, providing nothing more than the basics.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The food in the restaurant was a higher quality than all the other restaurants we ate at in town. More flavors and better tasting. (a bit pricier too but it was worth it)
Cons: I think we could have benefitted from some mosquito nets while we slept.
5.0 Okay
Cons: They charge the 12% VAT. Other hostals I've stayed in don't charge this fee. Make sure you ask for a receipt so you can claim the VAT back
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I stayed in a dorm room in the new part of the hostel. The room was bright, spacious and clean. The common area was breezy and pleasant with a book exchange. I was able to pay with my credit card without surcharge.
Cons: Instant coffee at breafast.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Not sure what this place was. Some sort of frat house? No towels, shared bathrooms, no staff.
Cons: Just about everything. There's no good reason to go to Mompiche unless you like grunge and surfing. This place is the worst place I've stayed in Ecuador and grossly overpriced, but the other hotels don't look much better.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Good location, although Mompiche is a very small village so it’s always close to everything. The owner was very helpful.
Cons: Very many mosquitos and no mosquito nets.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great food, perfect location, friendliness of the owner!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Right next to the beach. Balcony and hammock. Friendly staff.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Kind and helpful staff! Great location. Comfy room upstairs.
Cons: Some things may need a bit of a replacement. I think the moisture has left it’s mark on some of the sheets and wooden parts of the room/house. But all in all we had a rear stay in Mompiche! Loved it and Tito and his wife (?) were amazing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: we were the only ones besides the staff and it was wonderful, i got to read a book with their choice of books, my daughter got to play with the board games, in all we both had a blast.
Cons: there weren't any.
6.8 Good
Pros: The location was good, we were 10 seconds from the beach. Room was comfortable, however we were woke up early every morning from the noise. Breakfast is nice - croissants, coffee, fruit.
Cons: Felt a bad vibe from the owner from the beginning. Felt like we were in the way quite a lot and that we weren't really wanted there. Asked for dinner on our last night which took 2.5 hours!

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very quiet and relaxing. The owner Suzanne was very nice and helped us with anything we needed.
Cons: The door was very hard to open. It didn't have a handle to help jiggle it open. The mosquito net did not keep mosquitos from eating us alive during the night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was RIGHT ON BEACH!
Cons: Nothing! Everything was Great!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was beautiful, the location was beautiful, and very quiet. The perfect place to kick back and enjoy life for a couple of days. It's literally on the beach front. If I find myself back in Mompiche someday I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else.
7.5 Good
Pros: Spacious rooms. Comfortable beds. Good mosquito nets. Beside the beach. Great veiws. Friendly owner.
Cons: When we stayed there was a lot of rain and we had leaks in the roof which wasn't pleasant but we were given a small discount. As there were windows that didn't close their were lots of flies and bugs in the rooms. Rooms needed shelves or more storage space.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location right near the best surf spot. You can check the waves while eating your breakfast. Lovely and breezy.
Cons: Would have liked a private bathroom
10.0 Excellent

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Its a Bamboo house 2 min walk from the mainsstreet its simpel but Nice the guy who works there has a Nice energy and you can bisically feel like your at home.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The man that they hired to work at the property was nice, however he was drunk when we checked in.
Cons: The owner charged us more than we were supposed to pay because it was a holiday. I was not aware that booking would find you a new location and cover the difference if the new location was more expensive. Please contact booking if she tries to make you pay more than the booking price. She was rude, and after we voiced our concerns to her about the price, she avoided eye contact and talking to us all weekend. Also, the door to our room was just PVC pipes covered in a trash bag so we did not feel super comfortable leaving valuables in the room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Quiet area Really cheap Nice staff
Cons: The room was a bit small
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff, clean, peaceful
5.5 Okay
Pros: Close proximity to beach, Freddie was kind and helpful.
Cons: We are not fussy about a room and comfort really however this place needs a serious refurbishment compared to the price they ask even off season is a total rip off compared to what they offer. Add sais see view there is none and balcony to sit out again there is none. The guy who is in charge of the place Freddie is very kind and helpful however the owners of the house live in another city and don’t care much to improve the place they even pick on Freddie because he tries to sell some chocolate in the afternoons which is great by the way. (We overheard a phone conversation between them) All in all to say the owners are cheapskates and if I would be Freddie I would have left the place long time ago. Place will fall to rumbles soon anyways. There is also a fan in the room that is so noisy you can barely sleep and if you put it off you die of heat. We stayed 3 nights and on our check-out a guy came, when he saw the place he left instantly. I don’t really understand how the reviews here are mainly positive and noone mentions anything of this. We booked the place based on reviews and being one of the cheapest. What can I say you get what you pay for, however pay a bit extra and choose another place
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful owners and an incredibly helpful manager! Loved this place :)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The place is very relaxed and quiet (no noisey neighbours or dogs) has a kitchen with a good industrial style stove. The staff are very friendly and go out of there way to help you and organize activities for you (One night the staff took us to see the luminous plankton). The bed was comfortable.
Cons: The place could use a bit of refurbishment but while I was there the staff were constantly trying to improve things. For the price you pay it is what is expected.

5.8 Okay
Pros: Size/Space of room. Accomodated serving as an ATM as we were out of cash & town didn’t have one.
Cons: No sense of service. No hot water. Room was not ready for us. Expected a beautiful view of the ocean, instead the windows were so dirty it was difficult to enjoy, spiders in corner, dead bugs, unswept. Toiletries cheap. Unkept. Thin blankets but I suppose its usually hot there- not while we were there in off-season. Stained & rough towels. Missing lightbulb.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff. Delicious breakfast. Gorgeous view. Nice balconies. Does not have a chair or a safe in the room.
7.5 Good
Pros: The hotel is in a quiet location but still in easy walking distance to restaurants. The balcony has a wonderful ocean view and nice outdoor furniture. The beds were comfy. There were not many tourists at this time of the year, possibly also because of the earthquake about 2 years ago. Breakfast was good and adequate portions.
Cons: There is only cold water in the bathroom, also in the shower. They charge extra for paying by credit card. Somehow the booking was not known by the staff. Internet was slow but good enough to read some E-mails. There is still a lot of rubble from the earthquake so that the beach can only be accessed in some areas.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The vegetarian tigrillo for breakfast was delicious! Also the view was really nice and even though there was no AC in our room it is so well ventilated that it was no issue.
Cons: The room was a little dirty (gecko droppings) when we arrived but spoke to the staff and they cleaned everything very quickly.
