Pros: Everything! The stunning property, the spacious cottage, the super friendly staff, the great food, the wine (!) the space, the playroom, the walks on the estate, the pools.. it really exceeded my expectations! We travelled with a baby and everything was provided for him; even a little baby soap and cream! And the staff was so Wonderfull! What we also liked is that the property is very spacious. We could easily sit somewhere in the garden to play with our baby without disturbing other guests.
Cons: Loved it all! If I can name one thing it is the price; but giving what you receive for that it is very well worth it!

Pros: The place is adorable. Not only it's located closely to several attractions (Monsaraz castle, Alentejo lake, wineries, distilleries, cork plantations, Evora town, observatory, water and motor sport centers), it also has an authentic and inviting atmosphere. The owner, Sergio, is very helpful and responsive. He is passionate about the region and knows quite a lot about it. The pool is a great place to hide from the heat at day and sip wine nearby by night. The breakfast is simple, but very good.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful house, family atmosphere, beautiful garden, friendly host and outstanding location. Great place to get to know the Monsaraz area.
Cons: We would have appreciated a fridge in the room. We drank a very nice local beer from the bar and would have stayed a bit longer by the pool should the bar have been opened more often.

Pros: The place is gorgeous and amazing. You feel at home however it’s a magnificent home! Sergio the host is so friendly and kind and welcoming. He provided us lunch even if not booked in advance and at the very last second, sharing with us what he had done for his own family: 3 enormous portions of Bacalhau a Natas (29 euros). We enjoyed the swimming pool and the relaxing garden. The room and the interiors make you feel you are a nobleman form the past. Great place indeed!

Pros: It is easy to be comfortable as soon as you walk in the door. We did not have a car and were encouraged by Susanna to use her refrigerator to keep a couple of our food items that we brought with us. She had fruit, cakes, coffee, and water out all day and night. We could come and go as we pleased and took some spectacular pictures of the Milky Way. The house and property has been in the family for over 300 years! The antiques and heirlooms are so special. As well as the relaxing places to lounge outside. Muito Obrigada!

Would definitely recommend this location for a stay in Alentejo

Pros: You just feel at home! Everything was perfect during our (unfortunately) short stay. The hostages were absolutely incredible always available and with tips and stories about the place in order to guarantee that we have an wonderful experience. The food is also amazing and we spend ours eating
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We really liked the quietness and the beauty of the hill and surroundings of this wonderful small hotel. The garden, olive tree fields and other outside areas are huge and take you away from the daily stress (we live near Lisbon where the rhythm of the day is much more stressful) The rooms and in general the complete building are just top-quality, no remarks at all. When you wake up, you can enjoy the beautiful view through the window (in all rooms) and really relax and rebuild your energy. The owners and all staff members are super friendly and will do everything to make your stay an unforgettable time. We enjoyed the good breakfast and loved the tour of the garden, give to us by the owners. Our children had a wonderful time discovering all little surprises in the garden. And last but not least, it was great to have the dog of the property (Tobiás) join us on our walk through the gardens and surroundings.
Cons: The Spa part is beautifully arranged but it is not very large. There is a sauna (max. 2 persons), a steam bath (max. 2 persons) and a jacuzzi. If you are alone in the spa (as a couple) it is certainly big enough. When we used the spa, it had some problems heating up (it was a cold weekend, I have to admit). It took a while for the sauna to get to the right temperature, but if you warn the staff that you will use the spa and do this a bit earlier than we did (we only asked them 1 hour in advance) this is not a problem.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic and friendly staff, always smiling. Amazing location with nice views and peaceful rooms.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: After only 2 nights this place felt like home and I miss it already. At first I felt a bit out of place, I am traveling solo and there were only a bunch of families there. They were with small children and quite loud, not what you would expect in a place like this. And while at first I was very flustered, Ana and Paula quickly made me feel at home. The place is beautiful, comfortable rooms and beds, very clean, beautiful outside spaces, pool, amazing starry sky, Paula’s cooking is divine and Ana and Paula are just the nicest people. Plus the dogs (Tobias and Chica) are the best!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great, friendly staff, very attentive. The place has a certain "je ne sais quoi ", the atmosphere is quiet spectacular. I particularly appreciate the cozy setting, making you feel at home with great deco, also bravo to the gardener, I wish I had more time to enjoy the property. Parabéns, quer seja o sítio maravilhoso ou o pessoal muito amável: 5 estrelas!!!

Pros: The room was huge, the bed was also very comfortable. Actually, I booked the triple room for a couple but anyway, the room was also big for 3. The entire hotel was very clean and new. Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to use the facilities like the swimming pool or the TV room. Private parking and good breakfast.

Pros: Good breakfast. Friendly staff Lovely clean big room

8.0 Excellent
Pros: We liked the staff, the price, the free parking, the size of the room, the baby cot with very good baby matress. Common area is very well decorated.
Cons: The AC couldn't warm well the room ( in January), because of the high ceiling. The bathroom was very cold, without any heating. We didn't like the breakfast, not eggs, not vegetables, not oat, just junk options for the muesli, one cheese option and one ham option.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent price for such a clean, well-maintained property.
Cons: Bed could have been better. Not much of a window. Balcony was small.

Pros: This hotel is run with great care and attention to guest needs. Absolutely immaculate!
Casa Saramago - Reguengos de Monsaraz - Building

9.0 Excellent (390 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Casa Saramago is a quaint property, located in Monsaraz, a medieval village classified as a National Monument. The house features an outdoor swimming pool and a garden and is located a 30-minute drive from the border to neighbouring Spain. The confortable air-conditioned rooms include a private bathroom with a bath or shower, heating, TV and tiled floors. All rooms include a view a free private parking is also available onsite. Breakfast is served every morning and is included in the room rate. There are many restaurant options less than 1km away from this Alentejo estate. Notorious for its wines, the region also specializes in dishes such as Açorda de Peixe do Rio (traditional bread-based fish dish) and Bolo Rançoso (almond and squash cake). It is a 55-minute drive to Évora and its ancient walls, Roman Temple and the famous Bone Chapel, a chapel with its inside completely coated in human bones. Every July there is a city-wide festival called “Monsaraz Museu Aberto” where the local culture is on display, including cuisine, crafts, music and theatre. The Casa Saramago is located a 75-minute drive to the Beja Airport, and a 2-hour drive to the Lisbon International Airport.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Charming, rustic, comfortable place with beautiful grounds, convenient location and most helpful and friendly staff!
Cons: Nothing.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast
7.0 Good
Pros: The property and location itself is beautiful, and has everything one needs for a comfortable stay.
Cons: We love the Portuguese people, but not so much the folks who own/run this property. The fact that not one word of English is spoken nor understood didn’t bother us, we quite like a little bit of a linguistic adventure, but the lady receiving us (I think the owner) couldn’t have been more unfriendly, unhelpful and unaccommodating. Besides some ignored requests, to not turn around to even just smile or greet guests when one enters the lodge is simply rude, and she made it quite obvious that checking out (at 10h30) during her breakfast was quite an annoyance (I would have preferred to have waited for her to finish the mouthful of bread before being dealt with). Not a good bye or Obrigade, but by that stage we didn’t really care anymore. The hotel is beautifully appointed but really should not be using single use plastic cups, wrapped in more plastic in the rooms for the storage of toothbrushes, nor should butter be served in those small disposable butter containers often used by take outs and large hotel chains. Every jam, honey and fruit dish covered in yet even more plastic, even inside where there was not a fly insight. The fact that the families dogs are locked in tiny cages behind the swimming pool, desperate for our attention, coupled with family photographs of bullfighting did not endear this establishments’ ownership to us, and we certainly won’t be back.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Fresh baked bread at breakfast was excellent. Pool area was great. Interior decor was fascinating.
Cons: Room was rather dark with just one tiny window.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel served our needs almost perfectly. We wanted an overnight stay on our way to the Algarve, with a pool. The hotel is charming and relaxed, with a fabulous view, a nice breakfast, easy parking, and a very short walk to restaurants in the village of Telheiro. We had considered staying in Monsaraz itself, but this option was much better. For a start, Monsaraz is murder for parking, and we had a fabulous view of Monsaraz from below anyway. It's a 2m drive, so one is right next door practically.
Cons: I can't say there was anything we didn't like. The pool was occupied by noisy children most of the time, but that's not the hotel's fault.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Ivone was one of the most helpful and considerate hosts I’ve ever met! She and the other staff don’t speak English, but they always made me feel like I was in good hands. The property was great as well, beautifully managed inside and out. I also appreciated the room being warm when I arrived, and the wonderful hot shower. I’d love to visit again!
Cons: The water heater seemed to be having trouble my first night, but they had it fixed shortly :)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous, quiet, authentic, rural. Wonderful relaxing stay. Loved sitting by the pool, listening to bird song and gentle splashing of the pool water.
Cons: Nothing.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We had a large room in the beautiful charming casa. It was uniquely decorated with antiques and incorporated stone shelving in the room with beautiful stone floors. The little village is wonderful to walk around and you have amazing views of Monsaraz. The pool was great after a long hot day of exploring the area. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful with fruits, meats, cheese, yogurt, cereals and wonderful fresh warm loafs of bread. Plenty of parking and the wifi was fairly good. Not super fast but good basic wifi. Our room did have AC. We would recommend staying here. What little we didn't like was totally overshadowed by how much we enjoyed our stay.
Cons: It seems the norm in Spain and Portugal but the bed was very firm and we did have a lot of sewer gas odor in the bathroom as can be typical in some older buildings.
9.5 Excellent
Cons: The room was very cold when we arrived.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice property and room, with impression of being in a farm
Cons: Very dark to arrive at night, kind of scary!!

Cons: Didn't ever meet the owner
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The house is inside the castle area and its very cozy, amenities and wireless cleanliness it ticked all boxes! From booking to checkout everything was easy and straightforward, the landlady also runs a souvenir shop not far away which is worth visiting too!!!
6.8 Good
Pros: The location was great and the décor was fabulous and the bed was really comfy, linen and towels were pristine
Cons: could have had a toaster for breakfasts as restaurants didn't open til 11, better pillows and the shower head didn't fit the socket very well so kept falling off. Seems a lot of thought into the décor but overlooked simpler things like pillows and crockery and cutlery as were odds and ends.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was magic and it was a pleasure to stay in such an original home. We loved the area very much and lovely host.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We liked the decor, the location and the spaciousness.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Perfect location, great accomodation, the village is absolutely stunning and the various meal and shopping venues were peaceful, good value and pleasurable. Not overly touristy and commercial. Stunning views 360°. I'm moving in!! I loved Monseraz.
Cons: There was no information provided to find access key. I only gained access by hunting the keys down by asking other Casa owners!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place in a unique medieval town. You have to know, what to expect: a very old and traditional Portuguese house. We were just looking for that. Though the house itself is aged, it is perfectly redecorated and very very clean. It combines Portuguese traditional furnishing with modern amenities like AC. For us a family of three, it is perfect with two separated bedrooms. There is a small kitchen as well. The major bedroom is large and the bed is very comfy. Patricia, the host is the kindest person and very open with advice and support for a pleasant stay. Our second visit, and it will definitely not be our last. Miuto obrigado pela hospilidade e cordialidade.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: There couldn't be more central location. The room was charming and comfortable.
Cons: Everything was great. They could give recommendations for breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was amazing. We thought Monseraz was a magic place. We arrived as the sun was setting and had to leave quite early the next morning but thought the location was fantastic. The house was very small but the master bedroom large and the decor was amazing. We enjoyed the antique furniture, all the knick-knacks and the artwork of local sites.
Cons: We didn't understand that we couldn't park in the village and had to find a carpark outside. Someone explained that when we unknowingly drove inside. We dropped our bags and luckily found a park in the closet car park. We later discovered that we could park there overnight but had to leave by 11am. It was a long walk over rough cobblestones with our bags to our accommodation. We also had to pick up the keys from a different location to the property. We couldn't have found either location without asking a local. Somehow - and I'm still not sure how it worked out - the person my partner chose to ask was the person with the keys! One other thing we weren't aware of before hand was that there is nowhere (that we could find) in the village to buy breakfast.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location perfect

Pros: A very comfortable guesthouse, right in the heart of Monsaraz. I highly encourage staying in this small village overnight as it is so tranquil and historic. Good breakfast as well. Staff was very helpful and arranged a taxi for me the next day.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location in the hills with lovely views. Friendly staff. Lovely breakfast outside on the terrace. In the centre of the historical town. Comfortable bed.
Cons: Nothing really. Credit card not taken but I think this was just a temporary problem. Bathroom was not in the room but was in the corridor opposite (but this is not a complaint as we knew when we booked that the bathroom was external and it was only for our use so not a problem to us). Not many bars or restaurants open in the town.

Cons: The bathroom is just right in dimensión and commodities. For 4 persons (2 adults and 2 children) would have been better the suite room
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room was across the inner courtyard and faced the open valley. It receives quite bit of sun so the A/C was important. TV and WiFi worked well. Check-in went smoothly.
Cons: The site attracts quite a few people who park (and double park) on the winding road up to the Rua Direita until the late afternoon. The "free parking" may be some distance from the Casa.
