Garden setting and secured location. Has a native feel to the place that reflects simple living.
Very poorly maintained room. The beds are old and too soft. Bathtub has seen better days. All the doors are ill fitting. The small fridge was not plugged in and smells. No wifi. The guest breakfast area serves food that fall short of normal standard.
it was not clean, the room was horrible, bathroom disgusting, breakfast was a joke.
The orchard garden hotel had decent reviews and I was looking for a value hotel. The grounds were pretty, but not completely maintained. When we arrived at the airport we got a taxi to the hotel. Our driver asked why we chose the hotel. Then, when asked, told me it was not nice and not in the best part of town. She said it was for locals (I'm ok with that), she said women used it to get dressed for their weddings (Cool), she said people use it for illicit affairs (well, it is a hotel), she said men take ladies-of-the-night there (ah, crud). The room was icky. Not dirty, but not clean. The sink and tub faucets were heavily calcified, the furniture was run down, and there was no trim around the door so you could see through to the outside world. The walls were paper thin and we were privy to the repeated mating calls of the local Bahamians (also heard when next door occupant dropped coins on floor when he was paying his date). Late night parties on the property kept my husband up. We also heard sirens often at night. We walked the 400 meters to Montague beach. It was ok, but along the way all the homes and properties had fences and some with barbed wire surrounding them. We walked about 1/2 mile more to Harbour Bay shopping center and saw that the stores had window bars and you had to be buzzed in. There was a grocery store there that catered to tourists. It was expensive. There was also a starbucks. Food was outrageously priced and hotel was REALLY far from downtown. The #11 and #19 Jitney buses go by the hotel on Village road. They only cost $1.25 PP per trip. They take you downtown, a quick trip on weekends and a really long trip on weekdays. FYI-raise your arm to flag them down if you are not at a bus stop, get on quick, and pay when you get off. It took two jitney buses to get to cable beach. Taxi from airport was $34, but some wanted to charge over $10 more. Negotiate up front. A taxi to and from downtown cost $11, but we were quoted up...
