The only thing which we liked about this property is the location, its just at the entrance of the medieval city.
The host was not nice at all. Even though we have informed him that we would be arriving in 30minutes and he has charged our credit card before our arrival(however it was clearly mentioned that we preferred to pay cash on arrival) he did not even switch the heat on. So on our arrival the room was freezing,we had to leave so that it could warm a bit. I am pretty much sure the mattress cost him 20€ maximum,it was sooo uncomfortable, that I would say hostels offer better beds, bathroom was not properly cleaned. His garden was full of dogs poops,so instead of resting after a long trip we got to clean during 3 hours our shoes and luggage from it. I do understand that some people want to gain some amount by renting their property, however they should offer at least some comfort and hire 1 professional staff to maintain cleanliness.
Nice hotel, good location.
Great location just opposite the tourist office in Perouges Not as smart as some of the heritage stays in the village but much better value than they are. Room very comfortable. Host could not have been more helpful or hospitable
Difficult to reach without a car. The host very kindly picked me up from the station as it was raining
The room was comfortable and clean, with a deluxe addition that had a little extra room off it with chairs and a table and desk. The building has been renovated very nicely and the room was updated and modern. There is a verandah to sit outside. It was fun to have lots of cats around, and the owner's little dog. The location is great, right outside the gate of the medieval city and opposite the tourist information office. Take note that there are no taxis at the train station, so be prepared to walk up to the city if you don't have a car. It's not far, but definitely something to consider. The owner provided us with a simple breakfast (pastries, bread, fruit, juice and coffee), which was good because the restaurants in Pérouges are open at unpredictable times and it is a bit of a walk down to Meximieux. Being so close to the medieval city was a real highlight. We speak little French, but all managed to make ourselves understood by each other.
The bed was small (short and narrow for 2 people) and had a definite dip in the middle, so our sleeping was not sound. That is about all.
Food was excellent, though a bit pricey but that's understandable considering the location. The owner cooks for you, fresh food, very tasty and original. Both dinner and breakfast were delightful! We ate on the terrace and there was a good vibe around all the time. Bathroom very clean and spacious. The owner is an interesting person, a bit eccentric but lovely to talk to. He was very cooperative and immediately addressed every concern we had! All in all, a lovely experience - would stay there again next time we are in the area!
There was nothing in our bedroom where to put our day clothing, due to recent renovation work or something. We addressed the issue and the owner immediately brought a coat-hanger for us - problem solved!
