Good location for Burghley Horse Trials, lovely breakfast, comfy bed, good facilities in room & nice pub next door
The hotel was being painted which did make abit of a mess whilst we were there but it needed updating!
Quiet location and friendly staff
going through a revamp/redecorating. the smell of pain in the room was not plesant.
Friendly and helpful reception staff. Very nice, clean room with attractive fixtures and fittings.
The extractor fan in the bathroom was very noisy, like someone drilling in the room.
The breakfast was enjoyable, it was cooked properly and freely available.
When checking in, the amount we were charged to pre-authorise was double the actual amount it should have been. I noticed this before authorisation was given and was told this had been the amount for the previous check-in. The hotel is being renovated and smelled a mixture of dirty and new carpet. There were only 3 members of staff working on the Saturday night covering reception, bar, and restaurant. The hotel was full. They tried to be friendly and efficient. The evening food was appalling. The nachos came with a sauce that tasted like tartare. We were told it was sour cream and chive, but this was not its taste nor the description on the menu. One portion of bbq ribs were served icey cold. They could not print us a bill to check. The waiter was really apologetic. When checking out we were not asked about how we found the stay.
Breakfast was good. It was buffet style and there was plenty of food and plenty of choice. Tables were cleared and re-set quickly. There was a lot of redecorating going on but it was well contained. The bedrooms were nice and clean - nice towels and sheets and comfortable bed. Lovely views over the water.
It was not possible to get a coffee after 9.00pm because that was when the coffee machine is switched off - this seemed to annoy a lot of guests. One evening we tried to order food in the bar at 8.00pm and were told that we would have to wait an hour as the restaurant had just taken several orders and had priority over the bar. Some staff were better than others - Stacey was good but the bar manager was rude.
