Nothing in particular. It was fairly ok....
Traffic-favorably situated hotel, clean room, very friendly staff. The "Castro", a street with dozens of restaurants, bars, coffeeshops etc. just a walk away. Ideal starting point to explore the surrounding cities.
It was very clean and comfortable
I like the location, it is near the castro street, makes us easy to get food and other things. The room facility is complete also and the room is clean. Better to change the lotion with the better fragrance and add HBO in the TV schedule.
The room was big and it looks like they take care of their rooms Everything was perfect for one night
I checked in at 6pm and it took 15 minutes before someone came to the desk. Advertised a continental breakfast which included coffee and juice only.
Simple and comfortable Lack of hotel staff attentiveness. Breakfast was never ready at the time advertised.
Convinient Location for my business
The staff are very nice and helpful. The rooms are nicely furbished and very clean.
Nice room at an excellent rate Paid more for other places in the vicinity that were not nearly as nice as the Zen
Clean, good breakfast, very helpful staff
During my stay at the Zen I enjoyed the large flat screen TV, the firm comfortable bed and the convienant front door parking. I accidentally kicked the wood corner of the bed frame and left with a large black and blue bruise above my ankle. Following day, my boyfriend kicked it too! That characteristic of the bed might lead to others getting hurt too.
Room was very nice, well designed and attractive. Loved the coffee beans and grinder for coffee in the morning (in room). Only negative is that the exterior wasn't quite what one would expect with the name Zen Hotel. It isn't bad but the building is old and doesn't have the Asian feel that we expected.
Excellent coffee at breakfast & great value for money!
clean and large rooms, converted from motel. slightly noisy rooms facing El Camino
There was a fridge and a microwave, a couch, many pillows etc standard room nothing extraordinary Remote did not work had to go change it, carpet was so filthy that when I walked barefoot for a few minutes my feet were black it's disgusting
Dried poop on toilet bowl from who knows when. Dirt everywhere. Uncomfortable pillows. TV did not work properly. Water bottle dispenser outside out of order for 4 days. It goes on an on. Nothing
Location was great. Walking distance to restaurants and Target was a plus. Television remote. No directions and buttons on remote were unreadable. Had to guess how what each button was. Also they had satellite with no instructions on how to turn on (took about 1/2 hour to figure out).
The staff was helpful and friendly very quiet Parking to little

Location, staff, tv, walking distance to restaurants Big stains on some furniture
Location & staff are excellent; very nice, family oriented people and close to shopping centers. Accommodations are comfortable. Rooms are appropriate for the price but need better upkeep. No real coffee or breakfast.
Proximity to San Francisco, relatively inexpensive for area, pleasant staff, was on 2nd floor near street but room was quiet very narrow parking spaces
Convenient to Stanford University, and it was inexpensive (for California!) Breakfast pastries were the only thing available; coffee machines broken, no juices or water. Bare minimum on everything.
nothing It was a dump, paid to much to stay in a run down room in a bad area
convenient location, cheapest price in area The pastries for the included continental breakfast all contained artificial colorings which are harmful to many people. The lights were not set to have a light go on when the switch by the door was flipped No sheer window covering, just blackout drapes

The motel location is easy to recognize. The staffing shortage is the problem of this motel. The person at the registration counter is not available when the guest requests help.
Worse than Motel 6 Not enough plugs in the shower way small and just plain old
Continental breakfast was ok. I saw housekeeper put Clean linen on the floor and clean towels on stair siderail. Not sanitary.
Price was good, rooms were very nice and well kept, bathroom needed a little fixes her and there mostly for looks but it was very clean. Very small bathroom'. Breakfast there wasn't much to choose from, but for the price in CA it was worth it. Near by neighborhood was questionable, but otherwise acceptable. Good for a business trip, and would go back again.
Jacuzzi tub, lots of pillows, breakfast, spacious Location.
The motel has a large sign prohibiting persons 14 years and younger from using the hot tub but does not enforce it at all. On several occasions, there was a young mother with her kids, one as young as 5 months without a diaper in the hot tub with her. extremely unsanitary.
Nothing Really Loud drunks blocking my door who didn't shut up until other guests threatened them at 12:45 am. Afraid to use the pool because of the loud drunks. Turned-off mini-fridge soaked bathroom carpet. No TV guide, and no good TV shows. Room reeked of deodorizer which gave me a 50% asthma attack. AC unit had no front cover.
The staff were the reason for the high rating. The rooms are as normal as can be, with a fridge. We cancelled and rebooked twice with no issues. We expected to lose money when we left a day early but we were refunded the full amount. We will be staying at the "easy 8" again. Rooms were typical with crappy tv's.
Rude, disrespectful and inconsiderate staff
Location is right next to freeway. Most hotels in bay area are super expensive. This is value for money. Internet charges extra.
The location was right off the freeway, easy to navigate to. The room was in shambles, horrible smell, carpet very old stained, peeling up everywhere, mattress was torn, appeared to be bloody footprint in bathroom area, doors had been kicked in, ac didn't work.
The non smoking rooms are non smoking. no smoke smell what's so ever access to the hotel
Absolutely Nothing Pot smoking by staff in front office, dirty room, hard bed that was smaller than advertised. Save your money and sleeping in your car is better than whatever disease you catch in the rooms.
Price was cheap Everything pretty much falling apart.
This hotel was very easy to find and easy to get to. We wanted a ground floor room so we had to wait a few minutes until the room was ready, but that was not a big deal. The best thing about the room was that the bed was very comfortable. The only thing I can criticize is that we were not told that the continental breakfast ended at 10:00. Since our check-out time was 11:00, we missed it. Other than that, it was a pleasant experience. It was also very quiet.
Despite the name, this is not a hotel--more like a cheap motel. No real lobby, no elevator. Room doors on outside. Arrived around 11pm and saw police car patroling and clerk was behind plexiglass window which didn't instill a great sense of security. Was glad to be on 2nd floor for security reasons but that meant having to carry my luggage up a poorly lit stairway. Toliet malfunctioned in morning--wouldn't flush and ran. Since I didn't pass through a lobby like in a real hotel, I forgot about alerting the 'front desk' but figured maid would notice when my room was done. Came back in late that night to find there was no maid service. Don't know if that is standard or they just missed my room. Glad it was only a 2 day stay and only needed room to sleep. On positive note, room was relatively clean, there was a refrigerator and bed was comfortable. Good flat screen TV but unfortunately the remote didn't work properly and wouldn't change channels. Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend this so called hotel for any price.
I recently stayed at the Hotel Startford, which is in a great location for my sales efforts in Santa Clara. I was pleasantly surprised at the size and cleaniness of the rooms and the grounds. There was a flat screen TV in the room. They have newly painted the hotel and I noticed they also have new windows, the room was very quiet. The contiental BKF offered a decent breakfast and the coffee was surprising good. I would recommend this hotel, it was affortable and comfortable.
Close to restaraunts, close to airport, close to highway and cheap.
This is a fabulous, quality hotel. The rooms are very nice and have an appearance of a fancy hotel suite. Breakfast is standard continental: mini muffins, fruit (apples and oranges), cereal, toast, o.j. and apple juice, instant oatmeal packets and coffee (I don't recall any tea though). The TV is a 30+ inch flat screen with a lot of satellite channels (most of which you will not watch as they are the standard fluff channels found in every TV market) plus a few movie channels. Microwave and fridge in room, marble counter for sink, closet for clothes (and it has a bench for your suitcase). Shower was nice, but the shower head didn't appear to be adjustable in the angle of the head. My only complaint was that the bed was stiff and flat, causing me to keep turning over through out the night due to pressure points on my shoulder and hip. If the bed was better I would stay here again. However, if you are a back or stomach sleeper you probably won't have any issues with the bed and pressure points. Other than that it is a great value motel to stay at and I recommend it to anyone. The room was spacious and quiet--just be aware that the mattress may be too stiff/flat for your sleeping habits (I'm sure it may depend on which room you get as well. I was in 214).
This place is a real find for a low cost, but clean, quiet and comfortable stay. Breakfast is cereal, toast, muffins, fruit, coffee, juice which was perfect for me. It's about 1/2 the cost of franchise hotels in the area. I stayed there 2 weeks total with no problems.
Good and quite. Nice people Good price and clean Free Internet Breakfast is very sample
Pros: Comfortable Bed, Continental Breakfast, Free Wireless Internet, Free Parking - consistently available, Fridge, Microwave, Iron, Flat Screen TV, Hair Dryer, Granite vanity top, Location, location, location. Cons: Small sized rooms, bath shower hardware is old and noisy. No printer access at the small Business Centre. Excellent value for the price paid! Highly recommended for budget conscious travelers who require the amenities shown above.
This hotel was neat, clean, modern, and in a very good location. The breakfast was adequate. Lots or restaurants around them. I recommended it to others.
We were pleased with the Hotel Stratford. Our room had a small refrigerator and microwave which were handy for in-room snacks. Just after checking in we received a phone call from the front desk to confirm the room and amenities were fine, which we thought was good customer service. The room rate included a continental breakfast each morning with coffee, juice, cereals, danish, bagels, and fresh fruit. Very nice assortment from which to choose. The only glitch was the TV. It was a new flat screen with DISH satellite and it was a bit difficult to get the thing working, but we finally figured it out. We recommend this hotel for anyone needing a place in the Santa Clara area.
Very friendly knowledgeable staff, they were always willing to assist and answers questions. Clean modern rooms, easy to use entertainment system. Linens in great condition, room well stocked with bath amenities and personal care supplies. I stayed two days and was comfortable at all times.
I was bitten by the bedbugs. It was terrible!
It was where I needed it to be. It was clean and easy to deal with through Kayak. Just a place to sleep. Nothing noteworthy.
Well kept facility, good breakfast for the price, best price in the area for a hotel with two beds in a room, close to Shoreline Amphitheater. Out of the way location.
Convenient location; always feel welcome - have stayed there 15-20 times over past 3-4 years. No
It was next to Musa's Korean restaurant which was awesome! There was no mini fridge or microwave.
The excellence Too excellent
Everything To many people out side of there rooms drinking
Not much. Walls are paper-thin. I got woken up by LOUDMOUTH people next door TWICE during my sleep. No breakfast.
It was remodeled and looked like the pictures. When I went into my room after check-in, the sink was filthy and FILLED with facial hair and soap.
nothing the rooms smelled like pot. the doors did not shut fully felt very unsafe and unclean
The room itself was decorated very nice and very new. The staff was very nice in helping me solve the issues with the room. Shower didn't work and there was cockroaches.
They had BED BUGS I'm not happy.
Everything was fine. Nothing, but as a suggestion when you check in the front desk should ask what your possible estimated check out may be so housekeeping doesnt have to check with you.
Helpful staff. Quiet room. Plumbing. Bathroom faucet water pressure caused water to be sprayed out of sink on to surrounding counter top and floor. Toilet slow to flush.
The price, the overall convenience, and the great staff. Nothing, really. The rooms are slightly smallish, I suppose.
along china town strip with lots of restaurants and stores. 4 mile drive to great america from bowers avenue. remodeled room was beautiful. bathroom was dirty (shower with broken toilet seat)
Location Maintenance, long term residents, uncomfortable situation, will not stay there again.
Nothing! People live in the hotel and are always lingering around. I didn't feel comfortable leaving my car in the parking lot because homeless hangout there and they stay up all night drinking and being disruptive. I wouldn't let my children go in the pool or spa due to the fact it was brown and extremely dirty. I felt uncomfortable walking to my car alone because everyone stares and try to talk to you. I felt uncomfortable and unsafe. I didn't even feel comfortable leaving my stuff in the room. I spent as little time as possible there. The staff kept calling my phone after the first night asking if I was staying another and I need to come in the office. After receiving 4 calls I told the lady all 4 times I made reservations for two night and I will come in when I get back. But the hotel room parking lot and everything else was dirty grimy and I will never stay there again. I do not recommend it. Stay at a motel 6 they are 100% better.
I liked the retro feel, but basically clean and not old.
The room was comfortable and clean on the inside. It was quiet and in a good area. Good water pressure in the shower. Good tv. No ice machine! Scary looking exterior. ...surprised to find a nice room on the inside. No pool. All the motels in this area are way overpriced.
Overall it's ok for a quick stay! And the only thing I enjoy there is because the room have a coach and free bottle of water as compliment. The room has a smell like whore house! And the bed are not so comfortable to lay on. Extremely very firm bed and it make little noise when you moved a round it. It sounded like it's been used up so much and Very old bed that need to be replaced!
An older motel in a mostly residential neighbourhood, well kept, clean, nice owner, great price, perfect for our one night stop over.
The room is not cramped and was clean. The heater worked properly and it was not difficult to set a comfortable temperature. This appears to be a family-run place, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I did not use the kitchenette, and I am not sure the stove (and oven) was hooked up to the gas. The kitchen had a mini-refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker, and small table. The Wi-Fi worked very well and was fast enough for my needs. The price was very reasonable for the area. Parking is a little different, with no marked spaces. It appears that you can park on the other side of the street (3 hour parking from 8 am to 6 pm) if you cannot park on the property. The lobby is not constantly staffed, you need to ring a bell and wait to be buzzed in. I was unable to figure out how to change the channel on the TV. Only one TV channel (channel 3) had a signal, and that only had the History channel. Perhaps another remote was needed to change the channel fed to the TV.
You can park in front of your room. Wittle motel is located near shopping centers and restaurants. I was able to check out later then the checkout time. The price paid for the room was good compared to similar motels/hotels in the area. The room comes with two free water bottles. They clean the room and do your bed everyday. Check in time was at 3pm, I arrived at 3:30pm to check in but i couldn't because my room wasnt ready yet so I didn't get my room until after 4pm. Many things inside the room are old and need to be replaced; the furniture is faded and had stains inside the drawers, the towels had rips in them & were worn out, the king size bed was squeaky. The housekeeping lady was using a shopping cart for her cleaning supplies, she deserves an actual charlie cart. Although they clean the room and do your bed everyday, there is no safe box for you to keep your money and/or valuables in, so you have to be cautious of what you leave inside your room while your not there. The lady that oversees this motel isn't fond of having kids and children stay here because she feels they will abuse the rooms.
