Newport is a quaint city on the central coast and has an incredible 1800s Yaquina Head Lighthouse in Yaquina Bay State Park. But then there are also the miles of beautiful sandy beaches to discover. In terms of the best hotels in Newport, there are many options in the city and along the coast. These range from luxury boutique properties to lovely personable inns and larger developments with plenty of amenities. And while you’re here, don’t miss the Oregon Coast Aquarium, with its local marine life and seabird aviary. Here’s my pick of the best hotels to stay in Newport.

For a room with a serious view, the Hallmark Resort – Newport is hard to beat. Every room here overlooks the Pacific Ocean, plus you’re steps away from a white sandy beach. There’s a fun range of guestrooms and lovely suites, all with balconies or patios and cozy fireplaces.

The multiple bedroom rooms are great if you’re on a road trip with the whole family and need extra space. This is one of the best hotels in Newport for kids, as it’s super family-friendly. They’ll love splashing around in the indoor saltwater pool, while you can relax in the hot tub or sauna.

I really enjoyed the on-site restaurant, Georgie’s, with its classic northwest cuisine – don’t leave without trying the clam chowder. If you’re looking for things to do nearby, drive a few miles to famed Agate Beach, or walk ten minutes to the Newport Performing Arts Center.

Set in a gorgeous beach cove, this is one of the best hotels in Newport for absolute privacy. The small inn has private access to a beach and is almost totally surrounded by towering Douglas firs. I particularly love the hotel’s garden, which has decks where you can sit out and enjoy the spectacular ocean views.

The Ocean House Bed and Breakfast is a boutique inn, which means it’s not for kids (only guests aged 16 years and up are allowed). In terms of guestrooms, they’re all unique: Pacific Breezes, for instance, has a patio with great views, while The Cottage comes with its own kitchenette.

This is the place to come for a romantic retreat, and it’s one of the best hotels in Newport for kicking back – ask the front desk about their books, games and puzzles. There’s nowhere better to do absolutely nothing right next to a fireplace overlooking the ocean.

Starfish Point has a range of fantastic split-level, two-bedroom condos which are great for groups of friends. Ask about the captain’s nook in the guestrooms – that was my favorite place to sit with a book and scan the gorgeous Pacific horizon.

At night the hotel’s section of the beach is all lit up, so it’s a beautiful place to go for a stroll, especially in the summer when you can walk hand in hand with your beloved. The hotel also has access to a special private landscaped park where you can set up a campfire in the picnic zone.

In terms of local attractions, make sure you visit the Agate Beach golf course, Olalla Valley for great wines, or book a crabbing or fishing excursion from town.

If you want to stay somewhere truly memorable and unique, this is one of the best hotels in Newport to go for. The Newport Belle is a 97-foot river paddle boat that was built in 1993 and is now permanently moored in the South Beach Marina in Newport.

The staterooms are fantastic – small but magical, and all with private entrances. My favorite is Stateroom Two, which is a mid-boat king room on the water level with views of the harbor.

One of the top rated hotels in Newport, there’s a fantastic salon area where guests congregate to grab coffee, breakfast or simply hang out and play games. With just five staterooms, this romantic spot is adults-only, so don’t bring the kids. If you want to get out on the water, ask about their kayak rentals, which they offer for an additional charge.

The Inn at Nye Beach is one of the best hotels in Newport for those looking for a more boutique experience. The best thing about this property is its infinity spa, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean. There’s nowhere better to book a dreamy massage.

This pet-friendly spot has a range of well-appointed guestrooms and suites, where the decor has a focus on reclaimed materials – the Ocean View Studio is a particular favorite of mine.

Ask the concierge about booking the beach bonfire kit, which has everything you need for a little night-time adventure toasting s’mores on the fire. The hotel also offers special kids’ packages with fun activities for little ones on the beach, making this one of the best boutique hotels in Newport for families.

Set just steps away from Nye Beach, the Elizabeth Oceanfront Suites is an unfussy, simple and delightfully affordable hotel. If you’re after a great deal and want to be right in town, this is the place to book. There’s a range of low-key guestrooms and a few suites – make sure to ask at check-in if you want a beach or ocean view.

Despite the price, there are a few great amenities including a gym and a hot tub. I love the hotel’s complimentary breakfast, while foodies will find plenty of great dining spots nearby, including Deep End Cafe for snacks and Uptown Pub for drinks. You can also easily walk to Newport Crossroads or drive to Pacific Village for a spot of shopping.

This is one of the best hotels in Newport if you’re looking for a classic oceanfront hotel that’s also pet-friendly. The Whaler has been welcoming guests since 1979 but has recently been renovated, so it feels sparklingly fresh.

There’s a wide array of guestrooms and suites – I recommend going for a Classic King with a little private balcony where you can sit and watch the ocean. If you’re traveling in a group, you can also book their vacation home, which has various bedroom configurations and comes with a kitchen and all the amenities you might need for a fabulous vacation.

I loved the hotel’s breakfast food cart, with breakfast sandwiches and coffee every day from 7:30 am. Don’t miss their gorgeous wooden sauna and hot tub either. The hotel’s gym is one of the best in the area, packed full of brand-new equipment.

The Moolack Shores Inn is set right on 101 North Coast Highway and just steps from the beach. There’s a great private deck where you can sit and watch the whales migrate, before stepping down to the six miles of walking beach right below.

There are just 12 themed rooms, all of which are simple with no frills. My top pick would be the Aviator room, which has a fridge and kitchenette, perfect for road trippers who prefer to cook for themselves (like me).

The location is great – just five miles north and you’re in Depoe Bay with their all-year whale sightings. Five minutes south and you’re at Newport’s Bayfront, with its fishing fleets and the best dining the area holds. The Agate Beach golf course is also two miles away.

If you’re after a condo-style, boutique place to stay, this is one of the best hotels in Newport to book. The hotel faces the marina and is a great place to soak up the afternoon sun and watch the sea lions, sailboats and pelicans.

The hotel offers studios, one and two-bedroom condos, and all the condos come with private balconies that offer fantastic views of Yaquina Bay. They’re all individually decorated, so it’s worth checking the website before booking to pick which style you prefer.

The Landing at Newport Condominium Hotel is great for a longer stay as all the units have kitchens and washer and dryer facilities. In fact, they even offer special rates for extended stays. One of my favorite things to do here is go see the California sea lions who lay out in the sun – just walk 15 minutes to Port Dock One to find them.

Despite the name Little Creek Cove is a bigger development with plenty of amenities. Based right on the ocean you’ll find 31 different lodging options, from studios to fancy suites. Many have private balconies and fireplaces, making this a cozy choice that is surprisingly affordable.

All of the rooms have full kitchens and ocean views, plus they’re pet-friendly. If you’re traveling with friends, try to book the hotel’s two-bed, two bath bi-level townhouse, which is a really fun place to hang out with a group.

Little Creek Cove opened in 1970 and is set in the middle of a forest of Douglas firs, with a little creek leading to the ocean. It’s a truly special place that feels like a real retreat. The location is perfect: private and secluded, but with the city center less than two miles away.
