Pros. This hotel seems like it was newly renovated. Everything looked new, was clean, and the room was very spacious. We stayed one evening for a wedding in the area, and I don't have many complaints. Lots of free parking!
Cons. The breakfast nook was a bit small and we had to wait for a seat in the morning. There weren't a lot of breakfast options, and some of the families were loud and obnoxious.
Pros. This updated and rebranded Howard Johnson offers a traveler a great value with a 10-minute walk to the Red Line of MBTA. Good resources for restaurants, coffee shops, and bakeries in walking distance. The facility is newly redone, and looks great. Simple, clean appearance from the street that carries through to the interior. This is a simple place, with no lounging lobby or other common area than a breakfast room. This is a place for travellers who will be out visiting and sight-seeing for the majority of their time here.
Cons. Rooms can vary. The room they initially put us in seemed only partially updated with an old Jacuzzi tub, paint peeling on the ceiling and walls, and mould in the tiles around the tub. The paint job in the room was obviously inferior. That room was also next to the "Janitorial" room, which serves as the office and break room for cleaning staff that starts work at 6am — very noisy very early. Front desk staff easily and quickly moved us without fuss when we asked for another room. This one was completely redone and a lovely glassed in large shower. The only other thing to note is that since this is a refurb, the sound-deadening is less than in a newer facility and the sound-sealing, such as the door with no seals around it, allows for noise to come in the room more than contemporary construction. Ultimately, we might use this place again, because it is a great value.
Pros. Everything! Room was clean (great shower!), staff was helpful, breakfast was good, price was affordable, and it was near where we were going. Favorite place I've stayed in a while, even compared to places twice the price.
