Nice place with very helpful staff, even English was not a problem. Hotel is kind of cute ancient style. The breakfast was nice, good value for money. We had windows to the street - loud in the evening which is in Italy normal, there was a bar under the windows. But when the shutter were closed, almost nothing was heard. There was also a small problem with the shower drain.
We were told all rooms had a view, which they did not. We were also told the hotel was within walking distance of a beach and you had to drive 15 min to get to one. They did not inform us that to eat in town on Saturday you have to make a reservation. Told them the day before we were taking the first ferry out but no one was there and we were locked in the hotel and nearly missed our ferry trying to find a way out. There is no AC in the rooms and you have to pay 15 euro a day for the remote to use the AC.
The people and atmosphere, the location , the sunshine, the sea. Breakfast food was boring. Coffee not good considering it was Italy. The price was very high considering the quality of the above and the facilities.
The location of the hotel is good – near the sea, center and the small port. It is calm and nice. The staff did not inform us, that every day of using air conditioner costs 15 Eur. So in the end we were a little bit shocked. It's not a problem to pay, but I think that the client should be informed what are the additional costs.
The location is great, 2 mins walk from the harbour, in front of the sea and with lots of coffee bars for a delicious breakfast in the morning. There was an hair in my bed when I first arrived. When cleaning, the staff should pay more attention to this details.
Good location in front of the pier. Good panorama from the balcony! The room was always clean! The only thing is that Rio Marina is a little bit far from the most animated towns, like Capoliveri, Porto Azzurro etc...
Was the only hotel in the town so provided a place to sleep. Very, very poor value for money - uncomfortable spring beds, extremely noisy room, no air conditioning, charged for coffee at breakfast! All at a 3 star price. There are also much nicer towns than Rio Marina in Elba.
The room was nice and the view from the room was amazing! The location is perfect since it is just few meters from the harbour and near to the beach. The staff was very helpfull and the breakfest buffee was money's worth. Woud recommend this hotel and location to anyone who wants some peace and quiet, a real small village with an authentic athmosphere without the excessive amounts of tourists. there were no ac which can be a problem in the hottest summer months
The hotel was great a 5 minute walk from the ferry and 5 minutes to the stony beach which was just great. Breakfast was grand most staff were helpful. Elba is wonderful I fell in love with it. Down side no air conditioning in the rooms very very hot not able to sleep! No air con not good
Location Musty smell at the entrance. Mould on the ceiling and walls in the room. Cramped bathroom. Does not warrant 4 star status. Over priced. Complete hotel lacking in general maintenance.
The fantastic position of the Hotel in fron of the sea with ver nice views on the landascape
The location of the hotel is amazing! The staff were very poliate and helpfull (the only service working people in Italy that smiles and help you AND speak english I think :) ) Everything was perfect The hotel was more or less perfect. The only small negative thing is the road from the hotel to the center of the city (4min walk)..We did not feel safe walking there. But the hotel and Porto Azzuro and Elba is very recomended!
view from our window
The view of our room was outstanding
The breakfast was good. Friendly staff. Would stay here again.
The hotel location was great- right on the water, you could see it across the bay when you got off the ferry. However, you need to have a car or scooter; otherwise you need to take a cab back and forth from the hotel to Portoferraio. The hotel was very nice- staff was helpful, pool and grounds were great. Breakfast was excellent for an Italian hotel. One thing we (young American couple) noticed was most of the guests were older German people on vacation. It wasn't a big problem, and perhaps it was because we were there mid-week, but we didn't see any other young couples the entire time we were there. Aside from that (and that is a minor complaint at best), we had a nice stay and couldn't have asked for much more, particularly for the price.
good location (close to the main town). nice piano bar for a sunset drink not very nice beach: stones instead of sand. too pricy (drinks start at 9€), our room as over the kitchen which was quite noicy in the morning. tennis court pretty bad quality. food is very good but still mass production
The location is absolutely stunning and the staff very friendly. Everything is made so that guests don't want leave the resort and it's fair to say everyone can find a little bit of what they want. We really had a wonderful stay. I do think that the rooms located in the hotel need a refurbishment - the style is dated and I felt that for the price, one could expect a more contemporary, stylish and luxurious decor and feel.
The restaurant staff were exceptional. The Manager on duty was somewhat brash and had a difficult attitude.
elegant hotel in a beautiful park with own beach, calm, although with some young couples with little children.Careful personnal and rich breakfast buffet ! Hotel is grossly overpriced due to its own beach, although the facilities (toilet and showers) badly need total restoration!! Nearby restaurants are at least 20/30 minutes walk so you either drive (and don't drink) or eat at home - we walked
Cleaniness and comfort of the room The beach was not a natural one and the staff were rather "off hand" at times although this did not appear true for the guests that they knew better and who were staying longer
It was quiet and relaxing and Management was very helpful in assisting our travel arrangements from their hotel to Roma. Lack of air conditioning at night. The bed was very uncomfortable and we asked for it to be changed and it wasn't. This made our stay disappointing because of lack of sleep. When we arrived the check in staff didn't explain to us that we had to reserve a table each day for the evening meal, this was explained to us on the second night we were there and this made us feel uncomfortable, however they did accommodate us in the resturant.
It is in a peaceful area, and close enough to Portoferraio so that you can go into town at night if you want - if you are willing to pay for a taxi or have a car. It is very well serviced by public transportation - hardly at all in fact - so that if you want to go out to eat or head out at night, you have to pay for an expensive taxi ride both ways, or rent a car or moped. The hotel itself is fairly nice, although definitely not a 4 star hotel as it is advertised. It has a nice pool and a good breakfast.
Pool area was really wonderful, as well as breakfast on the terrace Unfortunately, my husband was covered in Bed Bug bites after the first night. I don't feel that the hotel was dirty, just bad luck I guess
This hotel was in no way of 4* quality The room was very basic and the hotel was too far away from the centre.
Location, grounds and swimming pool. Only stayed on B&B basis. Receptionist (female) was rude on arrival. Air conditioning in room allocated did not work - changed room after some persistence. Room furnishings not 4 star standard.
We both liked the situation of the Hotel together with the choice of beach or good size pool. It would have been an ideal base from which to explore the island if we had more time but overall we enjoyed our stay with you. Gracie
Beautiful location, excellent service and good food. A bit too expensive.
Lovely hotel. Great beach, pool and beach restaurant, breakfast at hotel had good selection. Area where hotel is located is quite small so not too busy or noisy. Beds on beach are allocated to room which is good. Look our for Ezio, the security gentlement at the hotel gates, very very helpful and friendly, lovely gentleman. Rooms have no soundproofing. You can hear most conversations of your neighbouring guests and if there is children next to you it can be very noisy. Try to obtain an "upper floor" room as when downstairs, all you hear is chairs being moved around ! which is a shame as I loved this Hotel
Fantastic beach location on beautyful island.Good staff.Airy & comfy rooms !
the hotel is really very nice, the location is just perfec, it is easy to get to any other town within the island, dinner is highly recommended old-fashioned TV set
We were upgraded and dealt with polite staff during our trip. Nothing.
great place to relax.well run hotel.Would go again well situated no
close to the port, not noisy, not expensive I did not like food in this hotel. We had half board that was very bad decision.
Hotel Villa Ombrosa overlooks a pebble beach, with over the road, it's own area with deck chairs and sunshades.Very helpful cleaning and breakfast staff. A room without a view at the back is quieter than the front with the view. The lift goes from behind the stairs. I had to leave.
Friendly hotel, near centre of town, quite good food. Rooms giving on to the back garden have no balcony, no view and are somewhat dull. Try to avoid them. The hotel "beach" consists of two long concrete steps over the rocks and water, packed with deck chairs. There a re far more fun, sandy beaches elsewhere on the island.
It was superb. I was driving around Tuscany with no reservations for hotel stays and they were very accommodating. The hotel was beautiful.
The view from our seaside balcony was amazing, and the choices of foods in the dining room were simply delicious!
Free parking. Good food, nice staff, good location on the island of Elba. Poor internet connection. You have to pay for it per hour. Most of the time we were unable to get a connection. Limited view of ocean (only from balcony)
Beautiful new, clean hotel. Huge room with view. Desk staff were friendly and efficient. We arrived at 9:25 for breakfast that was open from 8-10. We found the hallway lights off and the staff cleaning up from large group. It seemed we were not too welcome, and were seated at a used table. We were however, able to eat, but not the best atmosphere or service. We also found the location quite a way up the hillside and a little hard to find. We were glad to have a car.
good situation The haed waiter was not really friendly. The british lady in the reception was really friendly and helpful.
Very nice staff, gorgeous location, decent to excellent food, clean rooms, value for money, peace and quiet, a pleasant pool with lots of loungers, and some enchanting ducksin the yacht harbour who liked to dine with us - the restaurant is on the quayside. They were all drakes, except for one female who turned up one day with three ducklings. There were also two quite seperate ducks from that lot, a black one and a white one, who were clearly deeply in love, were always together and performed an intricate mating neck waving ritual every now and then. So as well as a lovely setting there were things going on! And then there were the other guests. Not really, although maybe thehotel might run the occasional minibus to town should there be punters wanting to use it. Travelling by boat to Portoferraio was terrific, and takes about 30 minutes, but the day the weather stopped it coming (too choppy) presented a problem for non car users like us, But the hotel did take us and others to town in their mini bus so they solved the difficulty. The location is OK during the day for getting to and from, but if you take half board, have lunch, and decide to eat in townin the evening - because there are loads of nice places - getting back means a taxi,....and even a car would not help because one woudl be insane to drink and drive on Elba's roads. The island needs a better bus service actually.
Staff were welcoming and helpful. Food was simple but fresh. Sea view was beautiful. It was a little chilly at night and the room wasn't heated, or at least I couldn't get the radiators to work. Staff did provide an extra blanket though! Also, not the hotel's fault, but there are no buses and the taxi collectivo is infrequent. Standard taxi costs over 20 euros to Portoferraio from Magazzini and there is no way to walk.
Lovely swimming pool which was pretty quiet during the day as everyone seemed to go out on day trips. We had a big balcony at the far side at the top so it was quiet and we had a great view. Nice restaurant but book your table during the day for the evening. Last boat from Portoferraio was 6.30pm. There was only one restaurant in Maggazini which belonged to the hotel so no choice but the restaurant was lovely and had great live music one evening. Rooms are very basic so it was expensive for what you got.
Position was excellent.
Above all I liked the perfect location close to the sea and the very friendly and good staff. Also the hotels pools were nice. No
The restaurant was very good (a la carte at least). Very clean rooms. Could have good sea view but we had tree view. Very poor children facilities and the beach was unuseable. Car was a must.
Quiet but central location and stunning views - being right by the sea. Reception staff and our waiter exceptional nice. The dining room which needed suttle lighting given stunning views and more willingness to allow resident guests to sit outside on the terrace [although we were 'allowed to'].Candles inside and out would give perfection to the setting. Maitre d could be friendlier.Perhaps a proper Bar with sitting area would have been good.
Everything was great! We liked it a lot. Especially the stuff was friendly and very helpful. The location is about a few steps by the sea, so we felt the sea breeze with hearing the waves all the time. Nothing.
The room was very small. The "sea view" from the terrace was actually a small glimpse - quite misleading. The smell of baking woke me up at 5.00am each day.
Hotel is near the seashore and near the city center There isn't a "real" shower box: you just have 3 movable plastic walls on the bathroom floor.
We liked the size of the rooms and the proximity to the beach.
Very nice rooms. Quiet at night. Parking facilities could have been better, but we knew that.
The multi-lingual staff were most helpful and the services enabled a comfortable and relaxing stay. I had to book a double room which was expensive for one but it was clean, comfortable, well air conditioned and had a balcony.
Excellent location. Great ambience. Friendly and helpful English speaking staff. Less than 1km from ferry. Parking may be difficult in high season, but was not for us in October.
It was fine for the price. Facilities were basic but got a good nights sleep
Excellent seaside hotel. Close to beach but also convenient for town, port and bus station which enabled us to visit other towns on the island.
The friendly helpfulness of the staff The bathroom was too small to accommodate a person and a shower comfortably.
The location was excellent, one block from the beach. Park across the street. Staff was excellent, very friendly. The breakfast was good.
The hotel offers a very relaxed atmosphere, friendly and competent staff, wide selction of breakfast items and a convenient location. The soundproofing between rooms was somewhat lacking. The noises included the hair-dryer, the extraction fans and the flush from neighbouring bathrooms. The room were a little damp.
was clean , free parking , big terrace, flower poor breakfast, cost rooms
The beautiful sea bathing with easy access to La Paduella beach through the hotel garden. No fresh brioche at breakfast.
The room has a nice terrace with sea view The interior design of room and corridors need to be upgraded. TV needs to be changed
Fantastic staff! Okey breakfast but would be better with some eggs and less sweets. THE BEDS!!! We could feel every spring in our beds. Buy bed topp or change the beds.
