The staff was nice and friendly, I liked my capsule bed too. There were 2 different towels and the hairdryer was righ in the bathroom (there are hotels where you have to ask for it at the reception). The hostel's location is really good, you don't need public transportation - for example - to reach the Hermitage or Nevsky Prospekt. And the friendly price helped me to save money for the city's atractions.
The kitchen is too small if more people want to be there. The toilets could have been a bit cleaner but it wasn't that terrible at all.
We were doing a day trip in St Petersburg and needed a base to store our luggage and shower - the Marial Hostel was perfect for this! The staff were very accommodating and friendly and we had all our expectations met.
Capsules are very tidy, i paid extra amount to ugrade my room, then they gave me capule which is really tiny....but overall its was a good experience
This is a nice hostel in central Saint Petersburg, next to the Fontanka River. The closest metro station is Zvenigorodskaya about five minutes away on foot. Two supermarkets open all day are also about five minutes away. Sennaya ploshchad' (Sennaya Square) is about a kilometer away. The beds here are amazing. Because they are capsule-style beds rather than bunk beds, they are very sturdy, and the mattresses are very comfortable. Each bed has a personal outlet and light. There are also shelves and a fairly large personal locker built right into the capsule. There is additional closet space in the bedroom if you need it. Each bed also has a curtain for privacy. I think these might be my favourite beds out of all the beds in hostels I've stayed in Russia. The kitchen is rather small, though it has all the basic necessary things, including a microwave, oven, refrigerator, and stovetop. You can use the washing machine (also located in the kitchen) for 100 RUB. The bathrooms are generally kept pretty clean, and I don't recall ever waiting either for a toilet or a shower. You're also given a towel or two for free. The hostel is located on the ground floor, so there's no need to climb any stairs if that's an issue. There's a common room with a couch, chairs, a large table, and a large television. Also, the clientele seemed to skew older than normal, at least during my stay there, which could be a plus or minus depending on your style of travel.
The ventilation isn't that great in the bedroom, and some of the beds are a bit close together, but once you get into your bed and draw the curtain, all of that doesn't really matter. Ventilation isn't great in the kitchen either, so it does get somewhat hot in there. Also, because the kitchen is pretty small, it can also feel pretty crowded if someone else is in the kitchen with you. The furniture in the common room is all leather, which I personally don't like, but I know that's a matter of personal preference. I asked about whether the hostel did foreigner registration, and was told that they would send me the paperwork via e-mail, but I never received it.
Great location, good facilities.
Horrible cleaning, not too helpful staff. You get what you pay for I suppose.
