The only thing I liked about my stay here was its proximity to various business: Acme Bread, 4th Street shopping No AC - just a small round fan hung up on the corner of the room, old musty carpeting with a film on it (had to go to walgreens to purchase socks to wear when in), old linens/curtains/scratchy towels, indifferent help desk.
If you like good old-fashioned funky motels, you'll love this one. It could be anywhere in America, but it is a bargain in Berkeley. And the sushi bar which shares the parking lot is terrific.
That it was in the city of Berkeley. Filthy, run down with smelly rooms. There was an unstable patron who required an ambulance and several police cars. Blocking my car and more than probably scratching it. All this occurred late and was very disruptive to our sleep.
Good value for the money. Easy access to good restaurants and within walking distance (10-15min) from the bart. Great friendly staff. We got upgraded to a larger room (since they had the vacancy) for no extra cost, and also left our car there for the day (free parking) after checking out. Hotel is very old, and the facilities are run down. It was ok as a place to crash at for a night, but it's not a "nice" hotel by any stretch of the imagination.
The bathroom looked recently remodeled with granite shower walls, counter, and floor tile. There was a large flat screen TV with directTV. The room had a refrigerator and microwave. The bed was comfortable. The location was good. The price was good. The room was dark and small. There is traffic noise from the street. Worst of all the room smelled sour and the air coming from the heater - AC unit was stale smelling. The continental breakfast was very basic, but I didn't expect much for the price we paid.
Nice bathroom, had mini fridge and microwave, very quiet. Beds were quite small, room could be cleaner, quite expensive for what we received.
Good price and location if you want to explore Muir woods etc. Bathroom was not very clean
The personale was very friendly, but there was not what I call a breakfast .... Only coffe and a smal cake. Breakfast could be much better otherwise they should write what it is.You feel a little cheatet with this , because they advertise it as breakfast and it is not.
Location and price It was a little seedy
Close to fine dining. Had a very comfortable bed. There was dead bugs in the bathroom for 4 days and the windows would not shut good had bad freeway noise. Also trash from people before was seen. I would not stay there again.
The bed was good. The room seemed clean and we did not find bugs anywhere. This motel was located very close to our family member we had come to visit, so in spite of the bad shower and T.V. noise, we would strongly consider using it on a future trip to CA. The shower head was terrible. We could get warm water for only a few moments and then it became scalding hot and if turned it down, it was freezing. The pillows are way too high for both of us, so we slept with no pillow each night. Walls very thin and our immediate neighbor kept the T.V. going till like 2 in the morning and then again by about 6 they would turn it back on. Hard to sleep with the noise.
Good value at a decent hotel. Couldn't access the closet - one of the queen beds blocked it.
The price, which you can't beat. Close to the high way, and the noise from the road was pronounced. I had to keep the fan on high all night in order to sleep.
Nothing at all. Receptionist lied and said we would be charged even if we cancel the room, ended up staying at the marina motel across the street, way better room with kitchen and couch + room for cheaper than what la luna was asking for.
Great price the bed was comfortable. The shower.
Close to markets and restaurants on Chesnutt street, as well as the Fine Arts Palace. too expensive for quality
The car hire failed so the hotel staff very very helpful in getting to our next location. busy road all night.
Nice location. Relatively cozy. Their breakfast was more of a snack, but hey, it was free. The walls/ceilings are way too thin. It sounded like we had a heard of rhinoceroses above us. Luckily there were no bed bugs, but it seems at one time there was because of old bed bug stains on the sheets.
Very clean and the staff was very friendly. The location is good and they have free parking. The hotel is right on a busy street so you get street noise but just turn on the air unit and it's enough white noise to take car of it. The room is small but has all you need.
Works great when you are visiting the marina or the palace of fine arts. Great location for lots of SF activities. It is on Lombard street so it is a bit noisy but not bad for the price Noisy, needs renovating.
Advertise King bed, but was only a queen. Continental breakfast was horrible, why even bother. Otherwise it felt like a budget hotel even when we were "upgraded" to a deluxe room. Maybe places in the city just aren't great value, although I've stayed at a nicer place for a better price in the Tender Loin, even though that area is one I'd never spend time in again.
The man on the front desk tried to be as helpful as he could be. I also liked that we had parking right there at the hotel for free. My complaint may not be to the hotel. We had made a reservation for two queen beds on line and when we arrived the room only had one queen bed. I was traveling with a lady friend of mine and fortunately we had roomed together often before so we just said oh well and bunked together.
The room was clean and spacious, and both my friend and I had parking spaces close to the room. The room didn't have microwave--I heated a carafe of water in the coffee maker to make a bowl of instant oatmeal in the morning. The clerk at the front desk was pleasant, but seemed perturbed when I asked for a second parking pass. He knew that my friend and I were arriving separately, but was surprised that we both had cars.
Location is ok Expensive for what you get Shower is disgusting Room is ok- but not with the price
There policy about the deposit really..... inconvenience me! Location is good I booked this room for my daughter and she couldn't check in because they needed a $150 to charge to a Credit card for inessentials. She had no credit card to provide. It took me over 1.5hrs of my time over the internet, like signing my life away!! BAD!!

Remodeled rooms. The other guests were noisy, drinking, yelling, and stomping on their floor the entire night. This hotel hosts construction workers and it seems as they use this hotel as their playground. The breakfast consists of the unused corner in the reception box.

Staff was very helpful.
They were repaving the parking lot so it was hard getting in and out
This was the nicest, cleanest super 8 I have ever stayed in. The room had a feel of a 4 star room. For the price it was phenomenal
Clean. Could hear lots of footsteps in the room above us
Check in at 1:00 instead of the normal 3:00. Staff were nice. Clean comfortably room. Quiet. Comfortable bed.
Clean, recently redone, decent value. Cheaper rate if you call the motel directly.
3 mins walk to fishermans wharf Daily parking fee on the top of their daily hotel rate.
Convenient location Telephone did not work, safety on outside door was broken, don´t fall for the breakfast is included, it´s a joke, at most they could call it a snack.
The bed was comfortable It was a motel and very overpriced.
Location is very convenient, 10 minutes walk from Pier 39, 5 minutes from tram stop. It is clean, safe neighbourhood. Hotel itself is also clean. Breakfast is actually not existing, althought description of the hotel says differently. Just don't count you get anything except coffee. Also the room is extremely small. The two beds are actually accupying the whole space available. No room left for sitting or even walking.
Location The family above us was walking around all night and the building is old and you can hear every little noise
The location was great as it was just a short walk to Fishermans Wharf. The free wi-fi internet was a really great feature. Staff were friendly enough, and although the room was not flash, it was comfortable so it was definitely value for money. There is a sign by reception that says "This area contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause Cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm."... this was slightly concerning. Also I couldn't work the air conditioning unit but that could just be me :-)
The location was awesome!! The room was confy :) I liked everything
I loved everything about this place. Travelling alone I felt safe and secure here, it was close to where I had to go to meet the tour buses as well as within walking distance to the pier which had such a great atmosphere. The room was clean and comfortable and the rates were more than competitive. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay while visiting the lovely San Francisco
It's a delightful, charming little inn, centrally located and a good bargain. The location was very near Fisherman's Wharf. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Overall, it was a very positive experience. There was no elevator but that wouldn't have been authentic with the original style of the hotel or aesthetically pleasing.
Wonderful accommodations and friendly and helpful staff. I will definitely return again.
Location and price Poorly kept exterior and lobby. Lots of trash and debris outside door and in parking lot.
The ability to park in a very busy city and the friendliness of the relief managers. The lack of facilities to make anything other than poor quality filter coffee in the room.
Clean, cheap and parking is included No a/c and noisy (both traffic and residents)
The kindness of the people at frontdesk. Checking-in too late (2 pm). I had to wait for two hours for rooms to get clean. Rather poor wireless connection.
Plenty of parking, comfortable bed, good shower Refrigerator did not work
decor of the rooms Parking area too small
A good budget motel for a short stay in SF... Small stinky room...
Felt like home when first checked in Felt not important at checking out
Good location. For travelers with the car- free parking. Free wi fi access
Good location and price. Complimentaly breakfast was less than expected.
excellent location, parking available, clean room
If you are considering this hotel, save your money. Just shoot someone and go to prison. You will be safer and have a much cleaner room with better amenities. I left and saved my life instead. No lock on the window, a three inch gap under the door, hotel staff not present so they have a keybox to retrieve your key, paint peeling off the wall, no working AC when it is 85 degrees outside, a bed that looks like it is 30 years old, filthy sheets...
sorry, nothing comes to mind, not even the price, because I have gotten MUCH better quality for the same price. There was not even a number on my door, there was not a sign on the office door that was easy to see, there was no wastebasket (!) or soap or washcloth. There was NO place to hang clothes -- not even a door hook -- just a bureau.
Roof over your head.Clean functional room. Good for budget traveler.Nothing fancy about it. Tricky to find the first time as there is no sign on the property. Staff only works during check-in and out. Never saw anyone except at check-in. Small 20 rooms. My room had a sky light in it. Just my personal preference that I like my room dark in the morning. At sunrise the room lit up from the sky light. Too early for me. Notwithstanding, I would stay here again.
Free wifi and you can't beat the price. If you can't stomach a near zero amenity place, with nearly no hot water or soap for example, spend more and stay elsewhere. Slightly better than sleeping in you car, but not much. That said, I got what I paid for, would stay again.
It was a place to stay. It wasn't clean and no customer service.
The hotel was ridiculous one bath towel, gnats, crack heads walking around, mold in bathtub no cable or tv very scary place
Nothing. We only stayed for 2 hours until we could find a 2nd place to stay the same night.
Poor and not totally safe neighborhood. At the motel many occupants were outside their rooms screaming and drinking alcohol. Room stank with bad smell, Floor needed vacuuming. Bathroom too small. No privacy, can hear next room's tenants speak. Weekend price increased significantly, probably to accommodate prostitution nearby.
Staff is very nice no coffee at 05.30am
The free parking was a plus. Everything else! The towels in the bathroom were dirty, the tv didn't work, there was hair on the bed, the shower was filthy, everything in the room was breaking, the bathroom didn't lock, the walls were so thin you could hear the people next door talking, the free breakfast was disgusting, and the whole place was right next to the ghetto!!! This is the first time I have decided not to live in a Hilton or Sheraton and I regret it so much. Never coming back here again! I'm embarrassed for booking this place and making my friends stay here!
Ilove how nice the staff was it was very easy to find it was bye the water I CANT WAIT TO STAY THERE AGAIN WASENT VERY MUCH PARKING GOT BACK KINDA LATE HAD TO PARK ON THE STREET MY CAR GOT SCRACHED
there was nothing worth liking at this hotel. The check in was dealt with in the most unprofessional manner I've ever seen in any hotel. The uneducated, complaining, screaming check-in staff would have been comedy material if it wasn't for the fact they were responsible for getting me to a good night's sleep. The hotel was very rundown, moldy curtains, loud banging air conditioner, drunk guests on the balcony and walkways at 3am, smelly rooms. Overalll - flat out disaster and not even worth 1 star.
The staff was almost perfect. The front counter attendant was super friendly, courteous, and quick to check us in. His name was John and definitely was great. The location makes travelling to San Francisco fairly easy by car (25 minutes until downtown). The lake nearby (1-2 blocks) is very nice. The area doesn't feel ghetto, but definitely not super classy. There is graffiti/mural on the building behind the motel and it was so insanely gorgeous (my bathroom window had the perfect view of it). The place looks fairly maintained externally. Some Mexican guests next to us decided to blast some Mariachi/Folk Music at 2:30AM outside their room on an external speaker sitting in front of their room door for who knows what reason and we had to call the front desk and they handled the situation, but then our rude neighbors decided it'd be quieter to bring their speaker inside which made it even worse so after a second call the staff came to the room and told them in person to stop and then it was quiet. Situation was resolved in about 10 minutes in total. The paint is clean and doesn't look old and the outside of the building and parking lot also looked very clean. The staircases need some lights, both the adults (Sister and I) missed the last step coming down and luckily we didn't fall and just tripped. The bedroom we first got had hair on the sheets (I didn't personally see, but my sister had changed the room while I unloaded car and had a smoke). Our new room had used tissues in the drawer of the dresser. We had 2 Towels, 2 Washrags and 2 Hand towels for a 2 Double bed bedroom and it would definitely go a long way to do more washrags at minimum (I don't mind reusing towels, but not washrags and no washrag for face if you decide to shower). The floor had what looks like animal hair. So definitely if I had advice to this place, put out a ton of safety strips on the steps and lighting. Also, either fire your cleaning staff and hire some new ones, or start checking rooms they sign off on because they are not doing their job. Also, I would strongly suggest an enforced quiet time of 11PM weekdays and 12AM weekends and put a 1 warning policy before you kick people out. There are just some really small changes that would go a long long long way in improving the overall value in staying here. I didn't bother with the breakfast they offered (didn't even go in to look), but I heard it was pretty much slim offerings so a small variety increase would go a long way too.
the Location to on the bay area was convenient for a business trip
The clean room and the excellent cleaning staff. The bathroom sink kept stopping up.
Nothing had bed bugs I didn't like anything. It was awful
Liked the flat panel TV and King bed Room had an odor
Relatively clean rooms, usual provisions (minus a coffee maker) Phone didn't work so couldn't call to tell them that the WiFi cut out every few seconds--when you're on business and have trouble accessing the internet while away, makes for an aggravating stay; shower didn't drain, so filled up with water; evening check-in staff were courteous but day check-out staff couldn't be bothered; ad said HBO---no HBO; people hanging out outside their rooms at night talking at the top of the lungs--good thing I brought ear plugs; Poor and not totally safe neighborhood---didn't leave room at all after getting back from being out
The location. The staff was incredible unprofessional and rude and there were bugs in the room and on the towels. Definitely will never stay here again.
After some of the reviews, I was a bit nervous, but overall the room was fine. Clean, relatively comfortable, friendly staff, a bit noisy.
Its location. i stayed for 5 nights and my room was not cleaned once.
It is easily accessible to down town San Francisco using public transportation. I booked the king room and was given a double bed because the room was not available. The place looks horrible. It needs to be torn down. Too noisy.
Price was unbeatable. Bathroom was remodeled and sparkling clean. Room was very plain and basic, but clean. Location was great. Parking was free. Bed was comfortable, pillows were great. Had king rooms available at no extra cost. Room had a fridge and we froze ice in baggies (no ice machine). If you are on a very tight budget, or are a bargain shopper (like us), this is a dream come true. TV easy to work, no premium channels. Half the cost of any other motel in the Marina District, and perfect to sleep and clean up and get going. One step up from a hostel. Outside was undergoing remodel, outside floor rough where walkway carpet had been removed. Long narrow parking strip, had to back out onto the street. No clothes closet or hooks to hang clothes, we used a "towel loop" in the bathroom. No in or out of room coffee service, but a 24 hour donut shop about 2 blocks away. No ice machine. If you don't care about amenities grab this deal. If you're spoiled by free hot breakfasts, or on a fantasy vacation or romantic getaway, go elsewhere. These are not complaints, just hints of the quirky things you will find.
Hair on all 3 pillows, need I say more!!! Bathroom fairly clean, but the bed had just been made again, with used sheets. Internet connection was one bar and working between connection and off line. Do you know the feeling of writing a letter and push send, and then you are offline...? See above..
The price for the location was excellent. Well worth the cost of not having to deal with morning rush hour in San Francisco. Would definitely stay again. I would say they could update the bedding, other than that nothing.
Location was fine - you could walk to fisherman's wharf fairly easily. From the outside the hotel looked run-down, but the room was well-kept and clean. the bed/pillows were too soft, the wifi signal was too weak so we couldn't access the internet.
The room we got was really big and clean for the price. The window at the front desk. Is not inviting to potential guests and it puts fear in those who are checking in. It makes some feel that the hotel is not a safe hotel to stay at. My suggestionn is to keep the bullet proof glass, but don't make it a reflective window so that guests can not see the clerk processing our credit card. Also, an elevator would help, or have the clerk offer or suggest a room on the lower floors because there is no elevator provided.
Great location and our room had an ocean view! the room had no heat and the solution was only to move us. We did not move, we used sleeping bags to stay warm. The hot shower helped.
Liked how close to the beach it is, the great cafe right next to the motel, and ease of public transit into the city.
Close to the water, even though our room view was of the inside parking lot. It smelled of mold and looked really dirty.
Location & price. Near our daughter & her family & reasonable price. Can hear the N-Judah streetcar from the rooms - even in the back.
good location, clean room loud with people and muni, toilet did not flush, limited hot water
off street secure parking was very useful. Also staff willing to allow car to stay in car park after check out time. reception area bare, and found it unwelcoming talking through a glass screen to receptionist
Close to the Pacific and Golden Gate Park. Quiet area and spacious room. Much better than the Best Western Civic Center we had before in San Fransisco.
Convenience to N-Judah which we took everywhere sometimes with connections; loved Java Coffee shop downstairs need hooks and shelves in bathroom and bigger, softer towels
The service is great and the staff was friendly and courteous The towels are a bit weak
The staff was extremely helpful and the rooms were very clean and well kept. I had trouble with the cable in my first room, so the owner came in immediately and began working on it, exchanging cables and repairing the wall socket. He then apologized and offered to upgrade me to a different room for the inconvenience. The neighborhood wasn't the best in the world, but it wasn't terrible, either.
The crown lodge was not too far from my mother's house For some reason, our key wasn't always working
The staff was confused and confusing. The man at the front desk did not know how to retrive our reservation. Even with no other distractions, check-in took nearly 45 min!!! Quality of room was poor and I did not feel safe in the neighborhood.
The inside of the room seem clean and new. The motel is in the ghetto. It's for taking a person for a quickie. You just don't feel safe here. The price for this type of place was definitely not worth it. I've paid way less for way better hotels.
Noisy, dicey area
