Pros: Perfect place to stay on Ometepe. My cabin was very comfortable and sweet with lovely views. Very comfy bed, great pillows and bedding and exceptionally clean. The food was wonderful. As a solo traveller, the communal dinner each evening on the very pretty terrace, was a great way to meet other guests. The family and staff are so welcoming. If you are going to Ometepe you must stay here its a little piece of paradise.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great friendly staff, true family business. Host is really helpful, fun to talk to and flexible. Great fresh food! Amazing garden with tons of cool plants! Amazing view!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food here is some of the best food you will ever have.... so serene and quiet from the rest of ometepe island... would highly recommend this hotel to anybody.. it is truly magical.. lots of wildlife surrounding the property... off the main road so very private...
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This was definitely the most beautiful place we've stayed at during our trip. It's a bit hard to get to, as the roads are not so good. But once you get there it's totally worth it! The staff was super friendly, our rooms were clean, and the food was AMAZING. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a beautiful and quiet place to stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Food was gorgeous. The owners were super helpful, even helping us arrange things off the island. Would go back for sure. Horse riding tour to the waterfall really fun.
Cons: Nothing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Finca Mystica is a wonderful, relaxing accommodation that I will recommend over and over!! The owners and staff were fantastic! It was so great to have all our excursions and shuttles booked through them. The food was incredible, with lots of selection. Fantastic views, wonderful people, incredible stay!
Cons: Nothing...
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The owners and staff are very personable and seem genuinely interested in making your stay worthwhile and comfortable. Surrounded by nature (howler monkeys live onsite). Communal meals in eve make for great way to chat to other travellers. Great location for the top activities in Ometepe. They use really good guides with good English for the tours.Beautiful, large cabanas in a gorgeous setting.
Cons: Food can be a bit heavy and some lighter options for the eve at a lower price would be welcomed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I like how quiet and peaceful the property is and how isolated It is from the hustle and bustle. About a 20 minute walk to a beautiful set of waterfalls about five minute walk to the lake and a great swimming beach… About an hour and taxi from Malagolpos. Worth the effort. Howler monkeys on property. Off the beaten path. David from Los Angeles
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location close to the San Ramon waterfall and volcano hike. Dorm room was extremely comfortable. Home away from home feel with excellent hosts. Food was delicious.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We weren’t expecting this place to be so far away from the port, however with howler monkeys living on the property this was an amazing sleepy getaway on ometepe. Located near Merida, you can hike from the property up Maderas volcano & San Ramón waterfall. We hired a moped for the day to explore the rest of the island. The dorm room had double beds per person - result! The bathrooms were in a separate building and a little creepy in the middle of the night but we soon got used to the jungle birds and monkeys! Very welcoming and helpful hosts too!
Cons: We had booked a taxi with Ryan and had agreed a price of $30 back to the port. With the road blocks at the time the taxi had to take a few back roads and tried to charge us $50 when we arrived. We booked the horse riding up to the waterfall which as advertised by the hosts that the horses are ‘well looked after’. This was not the case as they were whipped constantly up to the top by the tour man, I noticed mine had tears from its eyes when we got to the waterfall, they were given no water to drink, and when we went in the lake after I noticed my horse’s saddle had worn down to a blood cut on his back. Felt awful for riding them. The food was quite expensive as there are no other restaurants around.

Pros: Our hosts were excellent, they thought of everything. The design was unique and efficient. Breakfast was delightful. Location was outstanding!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were very clean and well designed with hammocks on the private balcony. The owners were friendly and helpful with booking activities and taxis. We had delicious breakfasts of homemade bread, yogurts, crepes and omelets. We would definitely return to this tranquil little gem with its view of the volcano from the balcony.
Cons: Everything was perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was delicious- homemade bread, yogurt, granola, jams, and fresh eggs! Place is cozy, clean, cute, and comfortable. Hospitality is spectacular!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Delicious, homemade organic breakfast at the start of each beautiful day in a glorious, quiet location with outstanding views of Conception. Two balcony rooms are comfortable, and fine for families with children over toddler age. Elaine and Darren are terrific hosts who can arrange all sorts of experiences for you.
Cons: These were not concerns for me but you should note: (1) it is a 20-minute walk to most restaurants and there isn't much transportation, and (2) this is a 2-room B&B, so your experience is heavily impacted by who your fellow guests are. I suspect that the kind of person who chooses to stay here is likely to be someone you'll get along with.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great food, super comfy, friendly hosts, comfyand clean room. What more could you ask for?
Cons: In the middle of the island. Location could be a bit better, but Santa cruZ does have some nice beaches. Convenient starting point for hiking both volcanoes.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The privacy and the location was very quiet the view was spectacular, the food was great and healthy

9.5 Excellent
Pros: The cabins are lovely, the staff, the views, the breakfast . Megan gave us an upgrade to the volcano view cabin... I can’t think of a better place to stay! Thanks a lot! It was an amazing experience in the jungle.
Cons: Expect bugs, some may be bigger than we like but is there house :) There is nothing wrong with the place. The island is amazing! Go and visit!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I had a fantastic time at Selvista. It's a beautiful place accessed by a dirt track in the jungle. The room was large and immaculately clean. I can't speak highly enough of the host, Megan, who were answered all my questions and organised a quad bike and transport. She couldn't have been more helpful.
Cons: This isn't a criticism at all but be aware that the location is a good 40 minutes from the ferry port. You'll need either a $30 taxi to get there or your own transport. It's also in the jungle so be prepared for a lot of bugs. The room is partially open air so I found 2 large whip spiders the size of dinner plates, 1 bird catching spider and a scorpion in the room which added to the fun!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Megan and her partner were excellent hosts! There dogs are adorable as well. The views from the cabins were amazing and the cabins themselves are cozy.
Cons: I know we're in the middle of a farm, but having a mini fridge inside the cabin would have been nice to store food and/or drinks. Spiders were very big but that's just part of the experience, we had our spider swiper!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It's a wonderful, peaceful and relaxing place in the jungle. You can see wildlife, hear howler monkeys next to your cabana and feel that you are in the middle of the jungle with all the comfort. You can enjoy wonderful views from your balcony sitting in a hummock chair. They have food delivery service, which is very delicious and comfortable. You can also buy cold beer or wine on the property. The owners offer you all the fruit that grows on the property.
Cons: We stayed for three nights but the shower was hot only once. The double bed was very small. Very small breakfast. The staff were not informative enough about the tours and places to visit. The property is 1.5 km out of town, which means you will have to pay 7USD for the transfer one way. WARNING: this accomodation is not suitable for people with leg issues as the paths, stairs and ladders are very tricky!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Such a lovely and quiet place in the middle of the jungle. Megan and everyone else working there were so nice and helpful. We also got massages with Lidia right on our porch which was great. We would definitely book again and stay at Selvista.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Bed was comfortable, fans were good, nice shower
Cons: Walking to restaurant in the mud. Sinks to high. No cafe on property for dinner.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Megan was an amazing host! Made us feel at home and took care of us when my girlfriend felt really sick. Truly a tranquil and beautiful experience - exceeded our expectations!! :-)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The cabin and property we amazing. We stayed in a deluxe queen suite and everything was as advertised. The shower was actually better than my shower at home! We actually didn't mind the lack of hot water as it was so hot outside and the cooler showers were welcome. There is a great open air dining room and kitchen with stove and fridge that served as a kind of gathering place for socializing with other guests at night and in the morning at breakfast. Our host Megan was great and made us feel right at home.
Cons: It was really hard to find the resort in the first place. We arrived at night on scooters were looking for a sign that said "Selvista" but didn't see one. We didn't realize the sign that said "Finca Bona Fide" (also somewhat inconspicuous) indicated the name of the farm and was therefore the same property as the resort. We eventually made it after several drive bys when my girlfriend noticed this sign and made the connection. There actually is a very tiny sign that says Selvista but it's on the opposite side of the street where nobody would think to look if they were looking for a driveway to turn into.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel in the middle of the jungle. It was very quiet and peaceful, 10 to 15 minute walk into the nearest village but they have menus for restaurants that deliver so you don’t have to venture out at night if you don’t want to. Also a good kitchen so you can cook meals too. Room was amazing, huge room with comfortable bed. Included breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Free filtered water and free fruit from trees on the property! Megan was so helpful and helped us organise a quad bike which was delivered and Concepcion hike.
Cons: Our room was quite rustic with gaps in the walls so bugs etc could get in, but there was a net on the bed so didn’t bother us. Open air shower, no hot water, but we knew this when we booked. Overall loved our stay and would definitely recommend!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A brilliant guesthouse on gorgeous grounds surrounded by nature. The room was every spacious and the facilities were fantastic. Breakfast was awesome and they have information on tours and activities all over the island. Overall a fantastic experience
Cons: Nothing, everything was great

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is amazing! Juan is a fantastic host. The food...oh my! The house is a work of art. The farm is beautiful. The dog Geronimo is a sweetheart. Wished I could have stayed longer!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We had a great stay, even though it rained almost all the time and we were therefore very limited with our activities. But in the Casa del Bosque one could spend the time very well with a view into the greenery, enjoy the absolute peace and quiet and watch and listen to the countless animals. The rooms were very clean and the breakfast was great every day. Ben really conjured up a great accommodation here. With the honesty bar there are hardly any wishes left open.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We were lucky to have the house just for ourselves. The house is beautiful, there is a balcony for every room and it's in a farm. Juan was very nice and helpful, he helped us with getting food, breakfast, payments, guide to climb Madera's volcano and with transportation. They have a cafe in Balgue town and you can order food from the house and they will deliver there. The breakfast was delicious. You can also cook if you want. They have a honesty bar so that you note down what you eat/drink from what is available and you pay later. They have a booklet with a lot of information about what you can do there. Our mistake was to stay only 2 nights. Definitely stay longer, it's a great place to explore and unwind. And there's Jerónimo too. The cute house dog.
Cons: The only thing we found weird was that there was no door in the toilet, only an entrance.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Our room with its huge veranda and beautiful view facing the lake, volcano and forest was large, airy and clean. A great place for a BYO extended happy hour (an honor bar is available). The local staff was kind and breakfast good. Free bicycles are available.
Cons: The bathroom area, at least, should provide privacy from the OUTdoors! Dining options are very limited for those without their own transport and/or means of local communication. Lighting was poor in both the room and shared areas. The room fan needed an extension cord to at least reach the foot of the bed.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful room, bright, spacious very comfortable beds. We spotted a range of wildlife from our balcony (monkeys, birds). Juan and Ben were really friendly and so helpful. Delicious food at Cafe Campestre. Great facilities within the room - kitchen, fridge, honesty bar with drinks
Cons: Very hot at night, due to lack of windows, only nets. We found it difficult to sleep despite fan. Lots of bugs, admittedly not anything that bit you thou!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Ben and Juan were both brilliant at making sure we had an amazing time. Nothing we asked was too much. Breakfast is awesome, the room was so nice and spacious, the location is nice and quiet, the "honesty book" is a great idea, the restaurant is really nice too! A great stay - thank you very much Casa Del Bosque!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The farm is located right at the bottom of the volcano Maderas and has a great view over lake nicaragua and volkano conception. We had a warm welcome of the very nice and helpfull farmmanager Juan. He helped us to make our stay more than comfortable and helped us organise all our daytrips (motorbike rent, taxis, tour guides...). We felt like home. He showed us arround the farm and let us try some of their own grown salads and opened fresh coconuts for us. Also its a perfect location to start direkt the hike up to vulcano Maderas. The breakfast was the best we had in central america and every day a different one! thanks to the great chef! We can totally recommend to stay there and try the food of the cafe which delivers to the farm. Thank you!! We hope we are gona be back!! :)

Rosa's Lake Cabins - Mérida - Bedroom
5
9.7 Excellent (23 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Rosa's Lake Cabins in Ometepe Island, you'll be steps from Lake Nicaragua. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hospitality of the family! Perfect location to enjoy the island. Nolan is very helpfull and kind. Unique relax place and amazing to see how Nolan and the family are realizing their dream. To explore and enjoy Ometepe Rosa's lake cabin is perfect. Also enjoyd the food and Rosa's Nicaragua cooking lessons. Beautifull sunset at the lake with the view at the Conception vulcano.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rosa's Lake Cabins is one of my favorite places I've ever stayed anywhere I've traveled. I chose it because the reviews were so excellent, even though there were relatively few reviews, and I was really glad I made that decision. This feels like a cross between a homestay and a lakeside resort, with the perfect balance of privacy and relaxation with being around one of the most friendly and hospitable families I've ever met. They are relatively new to receiving guests and I can tell that this place is only going to improve, though it is already perfect as it is. The property is green and lush and covered in fruit trees, situated right on the lake which is warm and great for swimming. Ripe mangos literally fall out of the trees. Friendly dogs and pigs and chickens roam the property and various birds are always around. It takes a little bit of extra effort to get to Merida (we took a bus, but you can also take a taxi or rent a scooter to get here), but it is worth it. The location is perfect for activities like kayaking and hiking, or you can also just lay in the hammocks listening to the birds and lapping water and neighbor children playing and swimming in the lake. The cabins are comfortable and spacious with their own porch sitting area and hammock facing the lake. The pictures truly don't do this place justice. We ate a lot of our meals here, which we don't normally do, and they were all excellent homestyle traditional Nicaraguan fare. We particularly loved the grilled chicken, chicken + vegetable soup, and a huge place of nica-style guacamol made from the enormous avocados growing in the yard. When we arrived we were greeted with big smiles and fresh mango juices. Everything is also an amazing deal, very easy to fit into a backpacker budget, and we were glad for out money to be going directly to this amazing Nicaraguan family instead of to a foreign-owned hotel. Seriously, you have to go here. We can't wait to go back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely place and family. Located along the lake, it’s a peaceful area and the owners are very hospitable. Confortable and clean, I recommend it highly!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Big room with comfortable bed. Beautiful setting with views of gardens and lake with lovely seating areas. We swam in the lake at sunset watching all the birds. Welcoming, warm and friendly family hosts. Food, drinks and everything you need on site so no need to go out. The bus stops at the top of the lane and 5 minute walk to nearest bar restaurant or 15 minute walk to Margaritas bar restaurant. We will definitely return.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great stay with a lovely family. Spacious cabin in lovely gardens right on the lake. Noldan will help organise transport and trips. Awesome food made by the family.
Cons: Long distance from ferry so a bit isolated without transport.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hammock just outside your door with lake side view was the perfect place to relax and take time out. I was upgraded free of charge when i arrived which i really appreciated, and the cabin was very spacious and an easy place to live in.
Cons: The only downside was that rosas lake cabins are the other side from the ferry, however, bikes are cheap and easy to hire.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice setting on the lake front (the more sheltered side) and a lovely caring family to look after you. Big cabins that are comfortable and nice terrace to enjoy drinks and food. These cabins are more difficult to get to with limited busses, and bike/scooter rental is recommended to be able to make the most of the location (available to hire) but it’s worth the extra effort.
Cons: Omotepe is still quiet for tourism due to the situation - but please don’t hesitate to visit, we felt safe at all times and there is no sign of any unrest. If your thinking of it the DO IT
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We couldn't have had a better experience at Rosa's Lake Cabins. Everyone there was so welcoming and friendly. The room was very quiet. You can just walk right down to the lake and go right in, which is amazing. The breakfasts were very good. We also had massages, which were incredible.
Cons: - No hot water or A/C, but not many places in the area have this, especially not at this price. And also, these features sort of add to the rustic atmosphere. I loved it. - Road is really tough with a non-Jeep car, but we managed anyway. Sign out in the road is a bit small, so be sure to slow down!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The people there were amazing, we were treated incredible, such a nice family. They cooked whatever we wanted whenever we needed. So kind. Theres a small beach around the placr quite cute and the place itself its quite well organized in small houses. They even offered all the trips around the island. Everyone were very helpful.
Cons: Nothing, I absolutely loved it. Its quite far from the Ferry side and there were too many mosquitos but thats no ones fault.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was lovely with a wardrobe and plenty of shelves for storing stuff , Because of the situation in Nicaragua at the moment I was the only guest so the family were extra attentive . Both the brothers worked at tour guides and both spoke excellent English . there were fruit trees around the cabins so coconut and mangos were free from the trees .
Cons: unfortunately because of the political unrest in Nicaragua business has been slow, so they don t employ a chef at the moment and you can t get cooking lessons which was a pity , however the mother of the family can cook some basic Nicaraguan meals which were fairly good but limited in variety

Pros: Beautiful grounds, very attentive staff

Cons: Not all rooms have tv

Pros: The guy at reception paid extra attention to detail for us, like lighting a candle for our dinner table and putting music on for us. We were there on a quiet season so felt like it was all for us only. Also, the setting is beautiful, green and spacious and right on the beach.
Cons: The menu prices for food were quite expensive
8.8 Excellent

Cons: Shower (warm but not hot water)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Extremely kind and supportive staff regarding transfer and tours!
7.5 Good
Pros: We stayed four nights in this lovely hotel in Ometepe. The team there (Carlos, Noldan and Nolbert) were very friendly and helpful. As well as Louisa, Carlos spouse, whom we had a nice chat with on the last day! The property is very green and well taken care of, with hammocks here and there and a nice view on the beach. There are different categories of rooms which are quite big and at a reasonable price, all with air conditioning. You can rent a bike, a quad and book activities too or just chill and enjoy the natural sounds (music not too loud as many of the places we stayed in). There are three types of breakfast which are included in the price. Although this hotel was more expensive that the others we found on booking, we're were very happy of our choice.
Cons: I can't think of anything i didn't like there.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Carlos the receptionist was incredible and so helpful. Food at the place was good too, especially the breakfast! Very chilled place to relax on ometepe, access to the beach which is nice and hammocks to lie in. Food can be delivered to the hotel, and the staff can help out with everything.
Cons: Location a bit far out but easily solved as reception can help you order food, or hire bikes etc.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were so helpful and caring. The location is great for hiking. The food was great.
Cons: ---

Pros: location the most peaceful, be sure to take paved road

Pros: Efraim, the owner, was extremely pleasant, chatty and helpful with information about the island and in booking trips for me. The food he provides is fine, with some excellent fish. Dinner is watched over by a cow! The setting is in a banana plantation and is peaceful, not far from a couple of beaches (though not the best ones). You could walk into for dinner but I ate at the Hospedaje. There are walks from the Hospedaje .
Cons: There is a kitchen for the use of guests; maybe it would be nice to have free coffee available.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The location was beautiful and the host was super helpful and friendly. We loved the walk to the lake.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Efraím is a total legend! He is a very honest and helpful guy wanting you to have the most fun at the cheapest price. We highly recommend just organising everything with him, from transport to motorbikes etc. We got bikes from other dodgy guys on the way in and regretted it as they were old, poor quality, and charged us extra, they tried to make us return the bikes at 5pm and not the full 48 hours. Efraím also got us the cheapest kayak tours and told us about other cool spots. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and it's in a really quiet chilled location with hammocks, rocking chairs, you can cook your own food, there's the resident cow princesa who is lovely and you can hand feed. The list goes on, just make sure you get a motorbike or quad for your stay on the island so you can get around to everywhere.
Cons: All good!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great rooms, tasty food, beautiful location, very helpful staff. Everything we needed was on site, we rented scooters and they brought them right to us at the hostel. Beds were VERY comfortable.
7.5 Good
Pros: The host, Efram, was very helpful and friendly. The beds were always made everyday with fresh sheets.
Cons: A bit out of the way, on a rocky road, but close to a larger town (Altagracia).
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Our stay at Hospedaje Bananas was awesome! Efraim is a very nice host! He told us a lot of good spots to visit at the island! The rooms are super clean and comfortable! We ate everyday breakfast and dinner, Efraims wife is a very good cooker!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful and quiet place perfect for relax after a walking day on the island. Staff are very friendly they help us for any request nd need. Thank you so much Bananas!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Efraim, the owner, was knowledgeable about most everything on all of Ometepe as he is also a registered guide..he could arrange activities, motors for rent delivered to the hostal, horses as well etc. Plus you could get some Really good restaurant quality food right at the hostal. Plus its secure and quiet. Finally the room was cleaned and the beds were made everyday
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Ephraim isna very helpful and well connected host and apeaks very good English
Cons: We werent si keen on the location which was in a village banana plantation. We had read that the lake was within walking distance but it wasnt a nice part of thr lake.we were disappointed at first - and at the lack if a communal area but it encouraged us to go out all day to do things and when we returned at dark it was a good room to spend time in. Another bonus - there were cooking utensils! All in all we admire Eohraim for what he is doing there, wish him all the best and would stay again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food was amazing

7.0 Good
Pros: The view is spectacular and the pool area was very nice. Charming surroundings, e.g. garden. Selected few of the staff were very helpful and organized tours and activities. Most of the things were largely ok, although the facilities were somewhat old/run down.
Cons: The most notable things was the EXTREMELY slow kitchen. Everything (even a simple order of fries) took consistently at least 30-45mins even without other orders in place. The staff at the Bar were passive, excluding few English speaking exceptions. Also the a/c in the room was extremely loud no matter the cooling level, which meant you slep poorly or sweatting like a pig. Due to the locations, there’s little choice for alternative restaurants etc.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The homemade bread was great at the restaurant, beers were always cold and staff were always incredibly friendly and willing to help arrange anything to accommodate us!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Horacio and the rest of the staff were incredible. Excellent English, very entertaining and there was nothing they wouldn’t do for the guests. Including song requests. The A/C in the rooms was much appreciated. The cabanas feature a huge ceiling and were very spacious for all 3 of us. We will be coming back to La Omaja for sure.
Cons: The beds were a bit hard. I find this was common throughout all the accommodations on our trip to Central America.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location of the hotel and the view are probably the most beautiful on the whole Isla de Ometepe. Food prices were affordable and staff was helpful.
Cons: The hotel is far to reach from Moyogalpa where the ferry arrives. Still a long way to get there and right after Santa Cruz the streets are not paved anymore. In the night it is kind of necessary that you stay at the hotel because it is hard to go somewhere else for food.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hidden secluded spot! Getting there was a lil Mission since no data or GPS worked on my phone! But once we got there it was worth it. Food is amazing and the staff are bilingual. Take cash for payment in corbas. Wish I booked another night. The rooms are Little casitas with a porch!the rooms have fans and ac and hot water. And there is a pool infinity looking over the lake of Nicaragua.
Cons: Didn't take credit cards :( but no big deal.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely amazing! Views were stunning. Peter and his wife were excellent hosts always going out of their way to help out with food and advice about the island. We would highly recommend a stay.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I took my two daughters for a quick trip to Ometepe and we got to stay at La Omaja Hotel. It was our first trip to the island and we had a great time. The pool there overlooks Lake Nicaragua, and the girls barely left it during our stay. The rooms are exceptional and the staff is very personable. The chef, Pieter, is a world class cook and a great conversationalist as well. We are looking forward to returning.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel and pool area, the rooms were lovely and kept quite clean. We had a great experience booking a guide to hike one of the volcanos with the hotel. Good food and drinks at the restaurant.
Cons: The area around the hotel does not have very many other options for food or drinks.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Peter and Miriam could not have been better hosts to my friend and I, and they treated us like part of the family. The food in the restaurant was prepared by Peter, all local cuisines and all exceptional and reasonably priced. They organised our trips for us and even made us packed lunch to take! Peter’s English is great, so you can call in advance to arrange transfers from the ferry etc. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, ours had 2 big beds and a great view from the verandah. The wifi connection was strong and works in common areas. The view from the pool absolutely could not be beaten, with volcanoes in the distance and perfect for sunsets! We absolutely loved our stay, from the rooms to the hospitality and especially that view! I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Ometepe.
Cons: Can’t fault it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: La Omaja is amazing. We spent time exploring the entire island of Ometepe, and while there are hundreds of places that are must visits, returning for sunset at La Omaja, in the pool, is absolute perfection and cant be beat. The staff and managers are unbelievably kind and welcoming, and made our visit pure relaxation. We spent one evening just sitting at the bar enjoying the company of the managers and sharing life stories. Food was also incredible. AC in the room was a must for us (we are total pansies when it comes to sleeping in the heat) and kept us super comfortable! No better place, just book!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: My sister and I travelled around Nicaragua for 2 weeks and this was by far our favorite location. I can even agree that it is one of my favorite locations I have ever travelled to. Ometepe is a beautiful island, and this Finca is on the east island, away from the hustle and bustle of the western side. It was a true getaway. The facility/cabanas offered impressive views. Ours in particular faced an active volcano (conception), the inactive volcano (maderas) and Lake Nicaragua. Between watching the sunset, sunrise, the volcanos, and interacting with the animals, for us, it was plenty. The finca has horses owned by Harri in which they are VERY well taken care of, many many dogs that are all sweet, 2 parrots, an occasional cat or 2. The staff were super friendly and helpful, they arranged excursions and taxis and were quite personable. Breakfast was wonderful and we ate dinner at the facility (~$12) which was well worth the price. The pesto pasta was my favorite. I big thank you to Finca Montania Sagrada for a wonderful experience.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Finca is in a remote rural location which appealed to us. Very quiet except for farm noises.
Cons: Could have done without the dogs or at least the big ones.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good and friendly staff, lot's of activities to do nearby
Cons: Best place to start to hike Volcano Madera
9.3 Excellent
Pros: It’s a stunningly beautiful location in a fairly remote part of the island. The staff is very helpful with suggestions and arrangements. Horseback riding rental is on the property. Sometimes you have to play with the hot water to keep it going and sometimes WiFi wasn’t perfect but that wasn’t the point here. It’s a bit of a get away from it all place but with many very good restaurants and comedors very nearby as is the kayak rental place. Walking around Merida you get more of a feel for Ometeppe life than you would in the more touristy areas. Highly recommended!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: From the second we arrived, we felt like home away from home. The grounds are beautiful with lots of plants and trees. The cabins are huge and nicely decorated. Hari and Mirca are loveable and helpful hosts. They have a lot of dogs, which are all very sweet. The food is a bit more expensive than in other places, but totally worth it! The quality is fantastic and the portions huge. They serve a variety of things for breakfast includig homemade bread and jam! And moka! Also we want to point out, that the directions (we arrived by public transportation) are very accurate. People at the port in San Jorge wanted to talk us into booking a shuttle, first they told us there was no bus (which is a lie) then they told us the way to the finca is very steep and long. It’s not at all, you can do it easily by foot, even with backpacks.
Cons: Nothing, this place is perfect!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great view, great hosts, great breakfast...
Cons: The road is in very poor condition
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful finca on a quieter side of the island, Marilena was a great host and Hari / Frances gave us a great horseriding tour. Make sure you eat dinner there, best food we had in Nicaragua - the puttanesca was great!
Cons: Ants in the bathroom at night!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It was the perfect jungle bungalow. Loved our room with the views of the volcanoes.
Cons: Needed ice cubes for the guest to have a cool drinks after hiking all day.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic hosts and great facilities.
7.5 Good
Pros: The room was comfortable with enough space for 2 to function. The grounds were beautiful and well-kept. When a panel of the roof banged in the wind for the first night, it was fixed the next day. The breakfasts were excellent (homemade yogurt & lots of fruit were a bonus!)
Cons: Dogs are fine, but the dining area is not an appropriate place for them, especially when we’re eating. After 2 days we found the area was too isolated and limited for activities and other options, given we didn’t have our own vehicle.
Finca San Juan DE LA Isla - Altagracia - Bedroom
10
9.0 Excellent (77 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Ometepe Island, Finca San Juan de la Isla is on a lake, a 1-minute drive from Lake Nicaragua and 6 minutes from Concepcion Volcano. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, multilingual staff, and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This was our favorite hotel we stayed in while in Nicaragua! We stayed in one of the beach-front cabins and I can't tell you how beautiful the view from our bed was. We awoke to the beach sunrise right in front of our noses :) The view was equally as incredible as the facility. We loved the cabins rustic feel and having a warm shower in Nicaragua was sure a treat! Not to mention, when you step out onto the beach, you get an amazing sunrise view and can see one of the volcanos in the distance. Love, love, love.
Cons: My only complaint would be the price of the drinks. Would recommend driving to the local town if you plan on having a few cocktails. Also, we experienced a TON of little gnat flies around the restaurant area. Not sure what could be done to control that but it was an issue. We had to hold our breath and run from building-to-building the one night, it was so severe.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Our waiter Juan was awesome! The place is beautiful there are monkeys everywhere so watch out
Cons: Problem with hot water, I had to take a shower with cold water
10.0 Excellent
Pros: San Juan de Isla was our favorite place in all of Nicaragua. It is an absolutely magical place. We stayed in one of the bungalows on the beach. It was perfect. The AC worked great (important to us). The view was to die for. The service in the restaurant was amazing. The jungle animals were fascinating. We had a family of howler monkeys serenade us at dinner two nights. The whole family rented scooters and we rode all over the island. It was incredibly safe. The people were very friendly and helpful. The travel warnings are very misleading. We saw nothing even remotely unsafe. We loved it. We will be back soon!
Cons: Truthfully we loved everything about San Juan de Isla. The one thing I would say, for people who want to be in the heart of action, is that it is a couple of kilometers from the other tourist hotels. For us that was awesome. And you can easily walk to the main tourist area. But if you need nightlife, you will need a taxi or rent a scooter.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice hotel next to the shore in Ometepe. Clean, comfortable. You can also experience some wildlife since it has a huge garden
Cons: Access to the hotel is a little bit difficult since the only road to the hotel is not paved and it is hard to drive especially at night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was amazing. In particular: Daniel, Carolina, and Martín made it a great experience. Tuanis!
Cons: Nada
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was awesome, location was perfect. Easily the best resort I stayed at in Nicaragua, 10/10 would recommend to a friend.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff was great, ambience and views were gorgeous
Cons: The hotel doesn’t have internet or tv in the rooms, there is nothing to do after dinner.
7.0 Good
Pros: The finca is located on a nice stretch of beach facing away from volcano conception. The staff was nice and accomodating (we hired a driver for the day who took us to san ramon waterfalls, the petroglyphs, finca magdalena and el pital choco place). I would recommend bringing a driver’s license so you can self drive one of the hotels motobikes or quads. The hotel restaurant serves a all kinds of dishes so you could most likely find something for your taste. The hammocks and rocking chairs around the property invite to leisurley hang out either at the back of the property looking at the volcano or on the beach.
Cons: The rooms are dark and smell quite stuffy(but you will most likely not stay indoors for very long in that setting). Spiders, geckos, and other insects find their way easily into your room. The beach is very nice but there were a lot of sandflies around. The last day there was a huge amount of flies popping up (our room was filled with them and there are no moskito nets on the beds). Power outages at night, the ac and fan went of and it took some time for power to be restored so it got quite warm after a while. The Hotel is located far off from the main road, so unless you pay for a driver or have your own wheels you are stuck there. So plan ahead how you want to spend your time there. The Hotel offers a lot of information and services though!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is exrordinary. It’s setting, design, facilities and staff. Warmly accommodating, knowledgeable and competent.
Cons: I have nothing to say regarding anything unlikable.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We had to puzzle our stay together as we were coming (unknowingly) at the high season AND the weekend of a popular survival race taking place on the island. Our first room for two nights was exceptionally lovely — a private cabana with a view of Concepcion, clean, efficient air conditioning and generally little to complain about. We highly recommend booking either this cabana or the private cabanas with a lake view as they seem comparable. The hotel is fairly isolated - 2km off the main road - however the staff makes arranging activities easy and amenable. We rented a motorbike through the property our entire stay as well as a kayak tour.
Cons: Our second portion of our stay, we were moved to the family room. Upon arrival after a long day of hiking, we checked back into our new room to be greeted with dead spiders on our coverlet, bugs in the sheets, multiple lizard droppings in the bed, not to mention a roach in the corner. Clearly, we are in the Nicaraguan jungle and bugs are to be highly expected, however given the cleanliness of the previous room, we were appalled at what we were met with. Understandably, certain things change with class of rooms at hotels, but cleanliness should not be a part of that scale. This is why we recommend the larger, more private cabanas.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: The owners are very nice, friendly and super helpful! The place is build with love.. Nice tours, motorbikes etc for reasonable prices. Go there!
Cons: Nothing about the hostel, but make sure you bring cash.. no banks in the area!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great place! Really appreciated the square mosquito nets and the garden. Lots of hummingbirds! The kitchen was new and it was cheap and easy to pick up small groceries from the local shops. We cooked a few times but would also recommend eating breakfast there, and trying the nearby restaurants (Campestre is SO good). Very close to volcan Maderas and not a bad bike ride to playa santo Domingo. Loved relaxing on the hammocks.
Cons: We were very happy here although it might feel a bit cramped when the hostel is fully booked.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Just a wonderful place! Very clean, super friendly staff, excellent breakfast (from 8am -8pm), we loved it. Has a great vibe thanks to the decorations, the garden and the people. There’s free purified water, a laundry service (4$), and you can order a „lunch box“. They also have a common kitchen, the selection in the supermarket is limited though, so bring your special wishes along. The Hostel is not directly on the main street but there are signs so it’s easy to find.
Cons: -
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A clean, beautiful hostel with a jungle feel, with the loveliest owners ever! I was the only guest here (not down to the hostel, the whole island is super quiet due to low season), but the owners were so nice and friendly, gave great advice on the island and made the most delicious breakfast! The dorm was spotless, bed was really comfy and had a big private locker. I'm sure in high season it's a really social and fun hostel to stay in, and in low season it's a beautiful place to relax and have some peace and quiet :).Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and cannot reccomend highly enough!
Cons: Absolutely no faults - a truly brilliant hostel
8.3 Excellent
Pros: This was a great little hostel in Balgue. It was in a nice location on the island walking distance to restaurants in the town and to some of the attractions around Maderas volcano (I.e the Maderas volcano hike) the hostel its self felt like a mini jungle with lots of plants and vegetation. Everything at the hostel was clean, new and kept in good condition along with the room being very comfortable. You are able to buy breakfast there for about $4-5USD which was delicious. The couple who own the hostel are also nice and friendly along with their dogs!! :) I would definitely recommend coming to stay here while visiting ometepe.
Cons: The wifi wasn’t amazing, At times it was fairly slow and it didn’t reach the bedrooms so you could only really use it near the main house. If they could add some extenders since the property is not very big it would make all the difference!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Perfect cozy place to chill out. Run by a lovely couple Denis & Patricia. Great value!
Cons: Wi-Fi signal was almost non-existent in the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Dennis, Patricia, and their two adorable dogs were all amazing and kind! I will admit that was a little nervous about not only going into Nicaragua but also trying to figure out the logistics of getting to Ometepe as my first stop and the fact that this property sent instructions and options regarding the ferry, buses, and taxis on the island immediately helped me feel at ease. Once at the hostel they arranged scooter rentals and an amazing guided hiking tour up the volcano which we stayed at the bottom. Their connections with local businesses took a lot of stress off of me and they genuinely cared that we had a good time. As for the property itself was both clean and absolutely magical. There were many colorful plants around it and I loved just sitting in one of the hammocks in the midst of it all. The dorm for having 8 beds was VERY spacious so everyone was extremely comfortable. The hostel offered a lovely breakfast but was also within walking distance to several other food options which the owners made sure we were aware of. Many of the activities in Ometepe center around being active and I loved that both the hostel and the other guests were all so laid back. I would HIGHLY recommend this property to anyone interested in meeting others on their journey but also taking advantage of the natural beauty of Ometepe! Thank you again! :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Must stay. The place is beautiful with restaurants walking distance. You located at the bottom of the Madres Volcano. The owners Dennis and Patricia were beyond helpful with activities and genuinely made sure our stay was wonderful, they helped with renting scooters and organized a great walk up the volcano. There are also 2 wonderful dogs to keep you company.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Helpful staff, especially with activities and transport Nice breakfast (additional charge) Friendly atmosphere Filtered water Little kitchen available Jungle location but close to a few restaurants Did pack lunches for day trips with early start (and even adapted for gluten free)
Cons: Small room, especially for tall people Probably not enough bathrooms if hostal is full Building work starting at 6.30am (though not onsite if we’d known this we might have rethought) No curtain at bedroom window so very light in morning Could give more realistic info about volcano maderas hike (told us it was 8km and 8 hours, turned out it was 16km and took us nearly 12hours so we lost daylight)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly, helpfull owners. Highly recommended.

Pros: Everything was awesome. The owner is a sweetheart and is always available to hello for everything from planning a horse or a kayak trip to helping finding shoes for us to hike to the volcano. If you want to experience Nicaraguan hospitality, come here, you will feel home.
Cons: Everything was awesome
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Family run and good breakfast. Good cook.
Cons: We should have ate more meals since the owner is a really good cook.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Odelba was a fantastic hostess really friendly made us feel at home and was happy to arrange transportation and help with buses etc. Also makes the best pancakes in Ometepe. Lovely small homestay feel
Cons: The bugs but nothing you can do about that on a tropical island!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We thoroughly enjoyed our time at El Guis, we were made to feel at home. Sheets and towels were clean and changed daily. The wifi worked really well. I would recommend breakfast if you are staying here, it was delicious and made when you needed it.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Amazingly friendly family who own the hostel. Best breakfast I've had throughout my travels, too (for an additional $3.5, totally worth it). Quiet-ish neighbourhood, but 5 mins walk from some very good restaurants.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved our stay here so much. Our sheets and towels were changed everyday, breakfast was really good, wifi was super fast, we were allowed to use the kitchen and do laundry. Our room was quiet and the fan was sufficient. The host lady is so kind and friendly and we felt comfortable in her home! Great value for money
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Odelba was the best host ever! She was really kind and welcoming, gave us advice on which places to see on Ometepe and made the best breakfasts ever! The room was cleaned everyday with new towels, new sheets and flowers on the bed. The location is also great, right near the good restaurants, but still really quiet and peaceful. We really enjoyed staying with Odelba and her little family, highly recommended!!!
6.8 Good
Pros: The owner was lovely
Cons: Bit out of the way in off season
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice and helpful owner.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We've been traveling for 3 months throughout South and Central America and the hospitality here was easily one of the best. There are reasonably priced tours/rentals available here, and if you're looking to hike Volcan Maderas this is a great starting point. Also, the breakfast is absolutely amazing!
Cons: There were a lot of ants, but I think you'll find that anywhere on the island. Also the kitchen was adequate for cooking very simple one pot meals, but not for anything more complicated than that.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good wifi, kitchen facilities, relaxing outside area with hammocks rocking chairs, peaceful, good food, very homely atmosphere that you don't find for that price outside of Asia. Owners were very friendly and generous, helped me get off the island during the troubles in Nicaragua. Hopefully everything gets better for the people.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: For those who are seeking some peace and integration with very friendly locals. Living conditions are simple and modest. Room is with fan. Small kitchen and fridge available, You can order breakfast and buy water or beer on site - cheap . Trail on volcano starts next to object. Bike and scooter rent just inform host day before. Host is very helpful and told me a lot about Nicaragua, thanks :-)
Cons: You can hear very clearly your neighbours breathing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: unfortunately because of the problems in Nicaragua I was the only guest in the house ! Fruit trees on the property grow mangos and coconuts which are all free . The staff were very attentive . As it said on the title everything there is extremely cheap .
Cons: The house was near a main road which could sometimes wake me up
6.8 Good
Pros: Very nice staff/family Very good price for value Beers and water available
Cons: A bit dirty You have to pay for using the kitchen and it doesn't have anything to use for cooking (oil, sugar ...) Not so close from the next city so it's better if you have a vehicle Roof in metal so very very noisy when it rains
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpfull with booking tours to volcan conception. Good beds and clean.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Host and his family are super nice and helpful. Kitchen is pretty decent (forty cordobas/day). Nice atmosphere and comfy hang out area. Water and beer are cheap. Clean basic rooms. Location is right at the trail for Concepcion and close to Altagracia for groceries, for everything else you’ll need a scooter.
Cons: No mosquito nets in the room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: You get all the information you need for visits and buses from the host. Food is good and cheap.
Cons: No moskito net in the room
9.3 Excellent
Pros: La Sabana Cheap House was more of a homestay- which we loved. We really felt like we were in Nicaragua, after having been in San Juan del Sur which is really touristy, this felt like we were living like Nicaraguans do and getting to know the town and the island in a more natural way. The space was beautiful with gardens and lots of nice rocking chairs and sitting areas. We were the only people there, but if it was full there is enough space for everyone to still have their own space. We felt very welcome at La Sabana and the area was safe. Altagracia is an adorable town filled with wonderful people. It was easy to get to off of the chicken bus, the stop is right outside the door, and the entrance to climb Concepcion is right there (which is the main reason we came to Ometepe).
Cons: The bed was a bit soft and squishy so it was hard to sleep next to my wife, because every move either of us made, made the entire bed move. It was a comfortable bed, just hard to be in it with another person.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Reina the owner was very friendly and helpful to make my stay perfect. She helped me out with information and everything I needed for my trip on the island. The hostel has a very good location just next to the bus station and the entrance of volcano Concepcion. The room was perfect.
Cons: The use of the kitchen comes at an additional cost

Pros: Excellent staff. Cold water for sale. AC!
Cons: None
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good food and view.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The accessibility of the restaurant and the quality of the food was excellent. We needed a taxi rapidly and we couldn’t contact one at that time, so the owner drove us to the ferry, which was very nice of him.
Cons: We stayed 4 nights instead of 5 like we first planned (and paid), but the owner did not discout the night we didn’t use, we needed to pay it even if we left. Also, the hotel is about 5 min walk from the main road, we decided to come back each day before the sunset since we didn’t feel safe to walk that road at night. The Wi-Fi is only available is the common area (not in the bedrooms). Be aware that the island is full of life (insects) and that we had to deal with them inside and outside of our room.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were clean and nice. The staff was amazing and so helpful, they answered all our questions, made arrangements for us and were very friendly. The food was inexpensive, healthy and delicious. We were so thankful to have air conditioning!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great views from this place and nice and quiet. The long driveway turned out to be a highlight - we saw all sorts of interesting wildlife and something different every time we walked up. Staff were really helpful and no problem at all to organise tours, and ongoing transport. Pretty good location on the island, bike distance to the pools and beach etc. Restaurants within walking distance.
Cons: Wasn't a room that could take us all when we booked so kids ended up in the room with no aircon which took a bit of getting used to as we had come straight from a cooler climate. Not a major issue though.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: AC Rooms were very comfortable. Staff is very friendly and gives good advices for activities
Cons: only highest class of rooms with view on volcano. Path to the hotel is not easy to drive with scooter
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet place, clean rooms, pretty laid back.
Cons: Would only take cash despite being told otherwise. Photos are a bit misleading, you don't get these views of the volcanos at all.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location was perfect... right in the centre of the island, and near the beach, with spectacular views of the volcanos. Beautiful gardens with lots of humming birds was a lovely treat. Room was clean and bug-free with nice bed and air con, so felt very cosy. Last but not least, our host Carlos was absolutely wonderful... helping to arrange tours and transport at discounted rates and giving advice on the island.... he even gave us some delicious mangos from his garden for free!!
Cons: Shower could have had a bit more power, but overall the place was fantastic so can't really have any complaints!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Amazing view of volcano conception and cute set up
Cons: The restaurant was very basic
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful property in a quiet location above the village. 300 m walk down the drive to the beach and cafes. Very friendly and helpful owner.

Pros: Lea and Maykell are just the best hosts you could wish for. Nothing is too much trouble. Food is traditional Nicaraguan, cooked excellently by Lea. They filled the pool for us the moment we arrived and also took us with them to the Moyogalpa Rodeo. Great , fun night out. Rooms were comfortable and very clean with two good fans and bathroom. The family have lovely pet dogs, especially Suzy. Lea and Maykell organised scooter hire for us at $18 /day. Advised us of the best places to visit on the island. They really are the best hosts , I'd be more than happy to have them as neighbours. Value for money is an understatement.
Cons: There is nothing not to like :-)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really nice staff, great location, comfortable room, good food and very authentic
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The owners were really helpful and friendly. Breakfast was amazing! Pancakes maple and fruit one day and scrambled eggs and grilled buns the next. Coffee was also great! The room was clean, bed was comfortable and we had two pillows each! I highly recommend this place if you stay on the island.
Cons: NA
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The friendly owners were willed to provide me an early berakfast at 6:30 in the morning.
Cons: The window of the room goes to the garden in which the owner runs a pub. So you can expect during the day and evening muisc.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is an excellent location away from town but still has everything you need. La Casona was one of our favorite experiences in all of central America. Family run hospital and they can help you with everything. Highly recommend visiting here and staying at this hostal!
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: My fiance and I stayed here for 4 nights and the family are so nice, they went out of their way the moment we arrived to help us and make our stay as enjoyable as possible. By the end of the 4 days we felt like we were part of the family! We are dinner here for two nights and the food was delicious and great portions too. The mama is a great cook! The property also has three dogs all of which as super friendly and just made our stay even more enjoyable. Nicaragua has really been hit hard because of what happened in Managua in April but honestly we felt so safe here and as a matter of fact we have felt really safe all over Nicaragua wherever we have travelled. La casona is a real little gem in ometepe and if you make it here you should definitely stay here
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Me and my boyfriend stayed here during two nights. The couple that owns the hotel, and lives here, were extremely helpful and nice. They made us feel safe and helped us with everything from renting a scouter to book a guide for climbing the vulcano Concepcion. This stay made us experience how the countryside in Ometepe can look like - you are in a area surrounded by pigs, horses, cows and chickens. A great experience if you want to try the real deal.
7.0 Good

Pros: Very clean and comfortable place. Everything worked well and was located next to a reasonable restaurant/bar. Quiet area with good information and facilities. Hector the manager/tourist agent is also vey nice, honest and knowledgable. Recommended.
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The house owners where super friendly and explained everything including all the things to see on the island(they mostly speak spanish but it was fine). It is quiet, the rooms are big and theres a restaurant/bar just beside the hostal. They even have a small shop in the hostal. To see the attractions you can walk to a bus station or call a taxi(wich are quiet expensive on the whole island). We recommend to rent a scooter or dirtbike to get around.
Cons: There‘s not much going on at night in this area, which can also be a good thing.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great value for the price
8.8 Excellent
Pros: They were nice and customer service is good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful owners (Hector & Tatiana). Will answer all your questions and ensure that you have the most pleasant stay by offering fun suggestions. Great location. Close to everything you need to see on Isla Ometepe. Available scooters to rent for cheap! Close to restaurants, one right by the lodging.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice and friendly owners. Always willing to help with anything ( tours organization, scooter rental, etc). Facilities are good. Big sized and clean room, plus WIFI working great. Comunal area for relax with tables and hammocks. Quiet area. Close to Santo Domingo beach, one of the best spots in the whole island. One of the best hostals quality-price relation I´ve found during my trip in Central America. Ometepe island is beautiful.
Cons: Nothing. Everything as expected, or even way better.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff was great and we got good information about activities on island + it was easy to book tours/rent a scooter. Place was very clean.
Cons: Bathroom had unpleasent plumber odour.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpfull and welcoming stuff. They even make aditional free breakfast for our kids, give us fruits and cake. When we leave we had les than 15 minites to next bus and they drive us to buss stop, so we can get on that bus, not waiting another hour for other. Water pressure was very good. There is only cold water, but you realy dont need hot water here as cold water is warm and it is hot outside. In same complex is restaurant and small shop where you can get refreshing drinks and some snacks at good prices. I recomend to stay here and if I will need room in Ometepe I will stay here again.
Cons: We dont feel anything uncomfortable.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff is really friendly. Rooms are spacious and really clean. You can get touristic information from the staff. We rent 2 bikes. It is 3 min away from ojo de agua. 8 min from play Santo Domingo. The garden is beautiful and we loved staying there in the morning having our breakfast and reading our books in the hammocks. The kitchen is great too if you like to cook. Beds are comfortable. And the chicken bus comes in front of the hostel to go to altergracia or moyogalpa.
Cons: Nada!
7.5 Good
Pros: Locatie is oké. Ligt tussen alles in dus niet echt in de buurt van een stadje met bars/restaurants
Cons: Hector picked us (2 pers) up from te ferry. It costs $15, so a littlebit expesive. You can also take a collectivo for $5,- each. The room is clean. Enough space with two fans. But there is a smell. We think from the sink. It smells a littlebit dirty! It is also very hot, but you can’t open the door because of all the flies. Breakfast is good! We rent a ATV for two days ($50 for 1 day), but the battery died the first day in the evening. So we called Hector and he came with a “new” battery. But we didn’t trust it and went home, because it was dark and on the road (between the cities) there are not a lot of people who can help if you have a problem again. The next day we drive to the other side of the Island for kayaking. Hector told us “it is very dangerous to go by yourself”. But we are dutch so we are good swimmers and kayaking is not sooo dangerous right. So we want to go by ourself. On the road there was a guy, like a guide, who talked to us about kayaking and Hector. We had to follow him to Caiman Kayaking. It was possible to rent a double kayak for $30 included guide. But we didn’t want a guide and it was the same price! How is that possible?! The guys didn’t have an aswer. After the negotiation it was possible to rent only a kayak for $20 or included guide for $25. Hector didn’t tell anything about the guy on the road and the “kayak tour”. In the afternoon we drove for a while and then.... in the evening we had the same problem. The battery died again! So don’t rent a ATV here! The women from the hostel is very friendly and she makes good breakfast! Pancakes, omelette or typico with fresh juice or coffee. Location is good. Between the vulcano’s, but there is nothing to do. Only 1 small restaurant and supermarkt. Kitchen is clean and has everthing what you need.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice place, peaceful location, very quiet. Nice room, with huge hammock. Good food, we had great fish for dinner. Some of the petroglyphs are not so far, so we took one way bus and walked back, which was nice and just enough for our little kids.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: I loved that it's right on the water and tucked back from the road. It's SO quiet. I went during a slow time of year so there weren't a ton of guests which added to the serenity. I love the pier. The staff was great. Their beers were cold, the value of pricing was incredible and their purpose...all revenues from the hotel go to funding the bilingual school next door for local children. Providing them with FREE education. Plus, they teach (and live) sustainability. The school was built out of used plastic bottles stuffed with chopped up other used plastics. It adds a creative look to the buildings plus leaves a lasting impression on the youth and visitors alike. Bonus there were some surprisingly comfortable lounge chairs on the pier made from used tires. Would love to come back with my husband next year!
Cons: I was dark in my room. I had a ground floor room and the windows are up high and mostly covered (great privacy) and the bathroom has awesome stonework on the floors and walls. Lovely but dark. I was only there one night so no biggie, if I were there for a week it would have been annoying.
4.3 Okay
Pros: The manager was nice and the social side of the hostel which have a school associate ! The place is pretty in the nature , but need to be cleaned
Cons: First, we wait two hours to get our room when we arrived they had a group of 30 so they didnt have time for us ! After , they were no foods available , only 2 choices left and it was disgusting... The restrooms were very dirty and they were no toilet paper for all our stay so we had to go buy some ! They were lezards poops everywhere in the shower and the water power was inexistant ! This place is lost in the middle of no where so you are stuck there...
7.0 Good
Pros: Breakfast was nice
Cons: It was quite dark in the room but if you are going to explore the island like we did you wont notice it that much
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the location on the beach... The bilingual school project... The kids always around... The food... The workers...
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were friendly. Javier’s English was fantastic and he helped us organise day trips. Stunning location on the lake, comfortable room with mosquito nets. Limited but tasty menu on offer. Thank you.
Cons: Bring bug spray!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The massive hammocks and the view
Cons: Long gravel road to get there
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent hotel! Contributes to the community with their hostel. A friendly staff, and the guy who gave us the kayak tour was very informative and so nice, keep up the good work! The most beautiful sunset we have seen in Nicaragua, highly recommended.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: I lovedbthe location on the lake and the atmosphere. Very peacful and quiet yet close enough to other activities if you wanted to do things. I also liked the massage therapist coming to give massages at a very reasonable price. And the fact that the arrangements were all made for us to go to San Ramon waterfalls on horse back. The horses were brought there.
Cons: The water pressure in the showers left a little to be desired and I didn't really care for the type of faucet in the bathroom sink.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Javier was very helpful, arranging volcano hike, local information, meals. Sunset is great from the dining area
Cons: Could have done with a couple more geckos in my room :-D

Pros: Location
Cons: Diner
9.5 Excellent
Pros: His is the best hotel that we had on our trip. Great staff and great food. Hole place was just magical for us. We had a great time there and a outstanding view. Beacuse hotel is on the hill we had to get there by cap but view is just amazing. For next day we rented quad and the staff organised for us that they will be waiting for us at the property so we didn't had to go to the city and orgenized anything. everything was just perfect.
Cons: I feel sorry for us that we couldn't stay longer and we had to go to our next destination. I recommend to stay there min 3 nights. We didn't had enough time in this wonderful and amazing place.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Commanding view of the island and volcano. Excellent location.
Cons: Pool needs to be cleaned regularly. It is an eco lodge, which poses a challenge to cleanliness.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Unique experience immersed in the nature Good and fresh food
Cons: Not easily accessible with a scooter No WiFi in the bungalow
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was unbelievably nice and helpful, they always went an extra step to make our stay as great as possible. The breakfast they serve in the lodge is the best we had on our whole trip. We could also order food from the town to be delivered, the staff even brought us plates and did the dishes for us. The view to the volcano is amazing, you can watch beautiful sunsets. The compost toilet in the bungalow was super funny, but don't worry, they also have modern 'real' toilets at the main lodge. Great place to relax and enjoy the lovely pool for a few days, we would always come back!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, and the food is really good. The bar area is incredible. The view from the pool, resteraunt and garden is one of the most spectacular in Nicaragua, and our favourite place throughout our holiday. I think I have seen more butterflies here than in the rest of my life combined.
Cons: You need to be prepared for animals in your room. I am not squeamish regarding nature (over 11 years in the military), but the room had bats in it every night. Occasionally they were hanging off the mosi net. It was clean, but bugs will get in. I appreciate being closer to nature is part of the charm but I think it would feel too close for some (for example, your perceived vulnerability to the howler monkeys would scare most children). We also had a few power cuts.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The lodge was absolutely incredible. The views, the people, the food were all amazing. We enjoyed being away from everything, but still able to go tour the island. They were very accommodating with all of our requests and made it easy to be there with our 2 year old daughter. I loved relaxing in the hammocks at our hut and the beautiful scenery of the pool.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Incredibly friendly and helpful staff, in an amazing location (although you will need to fix your own transport, or pay to use local). Great spot to climb Maderas from and we loved the outdoor shower.
Cons: We only ate from the Totoco restaurant and my partner got severe food poisoning. It's properly back to nature, so be warned about the composting toilet and the bugs (both of which you get used to v quickly!)
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The view is lovely.
Cons: The electricity did not work (three nights, pitch black, no lights, no fan). There was no hot water. I have never gotten more insect bites in my sleep anywhere and I am a tropical biologist. The bathroom was filthy.

With a stay at El Pital Chocolate Paradise in Ometepe Island, you'll be steps from Lake Nicaragua and a 3-minute drive from Santo Domingo Beach. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I've stayed at El pital chocolate paradise for one night. I found the place to be way beyond my expectations. First of all the place is in the perfect spot for jumping in the lake and admire stunning sunsets every evening in the swing area. There is plenty of vegetation and colour around, and it's easy to reach the main attractions of the island by bike or atv. The dorm was clean and pretty, no mosquitos and fresh air all the time. There are several activities going on during the week and the food served was one of the best I had in my life! The local staff is always polite and smiling and the guys are ready to introduce you to the magical world of cacao and chocolate. A special mention of course has to be done about the chocolate you can try here. It was the BEST I've ever tried and I'll try for sure!! You can tell everything is made with love, from the brownies to the smoothies or the magic ball. It was a dream for the mouth and the hearth! Thank you so much el pital, keep spreading love and chocolate to the world!!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect - right by the lake with perfect access to swimming or reading your book and watching the volcano. The dorm by the lake is also really nice, breezy for sleeping and not overcrowded. Homemade family dinners every night are incredible and made with love - with really enjoyed every meal as well. El Pital is a great place to relax comfortably in nature.
Cons: The dorm at the back of the property is very stuffy and doesn't get much of a breeze at night - it could use some more fans or windows that open.
6.3 Good
Pros: Great location next to the lake. Very relaxing feel and good chocolate.
Cons: The rooms could do with a revamp as there was clear signs of damp. When booking it said there would be free yoga however when we arrived apparently the yoga teacher had left a couple of days before. When meeting other travellers who had visited this hostel a few weeks before they were told the same thing. Food was pricey.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was sublime, right next to the lake and with a clear view of the stars. There are mango trees everywhere and it’s on an organic farm.
Cons: It’s a new place so some places are being constructed

Cons: Wine from the lake
7.5 Good
Pros: Beautiful setting close to the beach. Staff was friendly and helpful. They helped us with directions and booking a zip line experience. Breakfasts were great. Rooms were clean.
Cons: Meals in the restaurant were expensive compared to other restaurants near by. Would have liked to have some lounge chairs and palapas on the beach for some shade.
7.5 Good
Pros: Service was good, friendly personnel
Cons: Breakfast could have been better. For example fruits or some nice homemade jam.
7.5 Good
Pros: The Property is beautiful
7.0 Good
Pros: The food was generally tasty and good value and staff were lovely. Clean room and nice patio area with hammock.
Cons: - Most of the food was really good, although we didn't think the quality and portion size of the continental breakfast was good value at $5.70. We also had a dissapointing experience with the taxi service run through the hotel. We organised a taxi through the hotel to take us to San Juan del Sur which ended up dropping us off at the wrong place 1.5 hours from our intended destination! To take us to the correct place the driver then made us pay an extra $25, making the whole journey cost $60. We understand mistakes are made but we contacted the hotel to tell them what happened and they made no effort to reimburse us for this extra cost due to their error. We booked the hotel affiliated taxi service so we could feel safe getting to our destination but sadly this didn't happen.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Pool Food at the restaurant
7.5 Good
Pros: The hotel is really nice, great lac view and having a pool is always a plus.
Cons: The staff was not really friendly, which was a first in two weeks in Nicaragua so too bad.
