Breakfast was great, and the location couldn't have been better.
Didn't love the room we were given--under the stairs. But at the end of the day, it was fine.

Palacio is for the experienced traveler
Hotel Palacio is a standing work of art. A very simple hotel filled with a consistent colonial homage throughout. The respectful Traveller will enjoy its location and proximity to authenticity.
The bright light outside my door was annoying at night.

Quaint Clean Attentive staff Deliciouso breakfast!
We had a junior suite on the main floor. The traffic noise woke us up on several occasions. Get a room on a higher floor TV was almost un watchable due to problems with the color. I reset it to the factory settings but no luck. AC was either full on or off. No in-between.

lovely hotel, conquistador-chic décor, some minor
gorgeous building, interior, and courtyard design. it really is unique and mazelike; i was smitten. (i'm from california so i'm floored by anything > 100 years old.) décor is like a regal columbus-fanboy/conquistador-chic, the zealotry of which i found somehow both zinn-esquely uncomfortable and museum-patron aesthetically pleasing. our room had tons of space, an antechamber with a few couches, a great bathroom (jet tub!, separate shower, separate toilet, bidet), an adorable relic of a pc with a 3.5" floppy drive, decent wifi (got dropped a few times but it was reasonably fast compared to what i'd seen in other cafés... just don't plan on playing an fps, etc.). we had the 5-crown room which i wouldn't normally spring for; there just wasn't vacancy in other rooms: it was the perfect hideaway to recharge and relax after walking around all day. so comfy :3 the location is perfect for exploring the zona colonial. my bf appreciated the a/c, which was very effective.
nothing too bad, but staff was just okay, not super attentive and not particularly helpful when i had issues, i wouldn't consider them outright rude or anything though. e.g. -- i asked for a first aid kit or a bandage etc (in spanish) when my bf cut his foot and they just kinda shrugged and stared, so i just had to go outside and look for a pharmacy. -- i asked for the balcony door to be unlocked and they just never got around to it for the entire duration of my stay, etc. the free/not-free breakfast debacle: like another reviewer, i also was kind of confused when at checkin they said i had to pay for breakfast (the description said it was included). i chalked this up to an inaccurate description sent to the various hotelerie sites, and just assumed i'd pay for it a subset of the days, but then at checkout they didn't charge me for any of my breakfasts... so eh? if i had known it was actually included instead of hearing conflicting information i would have eaten breakfast there 100% of the time and saved some money : \ a lot of these might just be cultural differences, which is why i wanna reiterate that it wasn't too bad... i just wouldn't call it amazing service as i'd heard described in other reviews.
