Pros: Serene environment Nice pool Friendly staff Good breakfast
Cons: No proper English attendant. But they tried to communicate.
Pros: Nice place, friendly servers who helped when one friend was ill by fetching some pain killers from the pharmacy. The setting is pretty and the pool was clean and pleasant.
Cons: We had major difficulties communicating before arriving in an effort to do a prepayment. The owner was on holiday and didnt respond to several requests to provide the transfer details which would have saved much time and trouble since there are no card facilities or functioning ATM's on the island. One of our group found their bed sheets to be soiled when we checked in and the cleanliness of the resort could be considerably improved all round.
Pros: Nice setting, although the nearby cocoa worker quarters were a bit noisy at night and early mornings
Cons: Main problem is that electricity is not stable. Some brown outs, adds to the upcountry atmosphere, but causes internet problems
Pros: Perfect location, great staff and very good breakfast.
Cons: nothing to complain.
Pros: We stayed 5 nights at Roça Santo António after a 2-night stay at a city hostel. After traveling the whole island of São Tomé, we're sure to have made the perfect choice. The location is great. 20-25 min away from the city of São Tomé. 10 more, maybe, from the airport. From there you can easily travel each day either to North or South as we did. After leaving the N2 you get to do 200m of dirt road. Then you get to this brand new tastefully designed place surrounded by green. There is beautiful main building with a terrace facing the swimming pool and on the opposite side, also facing the pool, a row of 5 rooms. We've stayed in one of those. It was a very spacious room. Spotlessly cleaned everyday. Staff was sweetly friendly, always with a smile and with a genuine will to please. We had dinner 4 evenings. It was really practical not say very enjoyable to relax at the terrace, have a couple of beers and experiment either national or more Portuguese based cuisine. Cachupa was great! Breakfast is also served in the terrace. Plentiful and varied. Great natural juices. I'm sure when we go back to São Tomé we'll stay in Roça de Santo António again. Thank you to all the staff who made us feel so comfortable, for all the details and help, specially the manager Ângela, who's making sure to provide the best service in São Tomé.
Pros: The employees are super nice, always ready to help us on what we needed! The cleaning was also very good! The breakfast had amazing natural juices!
Pros: The bed linen was very nice and the bed was comfortable. The modern room design looked great and the verandah was a pleasant place to sit. The dinner menu was very limited but quite tasty and definitely over-priced for pretty basic home-cooking.
Cons: There were plenty of staff around and some of them were friendly but they were totally disorganised so service was poor. Breakfast selection was poor and covered in fruit flies (looked nothing like the pictures). Politely asking for cutlery, crockery, coffee, bread, etc was met with apparent indifference until another member of staff appeared. The room was very nice but (bizarrely) had an open plan toilet/shower room. The workers accommodation next door was pretty noisy and there was a lot of gardening/construction work going on around the pool one day.
Pros: Not much apart from being in striking distance to São Tomé city. Also enough north to be away from the rain dogged south.
Cons: Bathroom set up was strange. To have privacy we had to draw the curtains across the entire room including the front door. Noise coming from the community next door was constant. This morning it started at 5.30am. The management was new and didn’t seem to have a clue how to manage the place. Thank goodness for the staff.
Pros: Beautiful poolside rooms with little terrace facing the pool and garden. New and well-kempt facilities. Excellent breakfast with eggs, bread, ham, cheese, fresh fruit, pastries and homemade jams. Convenient location to explore the island if you have a car. Staff are lovely!
Cons: Ensuite bathroom separated from bedroom by a wall only, no door. Wall mirror positioned in a way that you can see the toilet - and anybody using it - from the bed. Dinner is expensive compared to nearby alternatives.
When you stay at Praia Inhame Eco-Lodge in Sao Tome Island, you'll be on the beach and 7 minutes by car from Jale Beach. Featured amenities include multilingual staff and laundry facilities. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Lovely cabins and beautiful seaside setting. Excellent dinner served with a few daily specials. The dedicated chef made a point of coming to talk to guests and asking for feedback on the dinner.
Cons: Can't-be-bothered attitude of staff. They were unable to help us organise simple activities such as a popular guided walk and transport to our next hotel and were visibly annoyed by all the questions we asked (all very simple things related to sightseeing in the area and buying lunch). They made up prices that were 3x as high as what we ended up paying when booking it via another hotel (eg. €120 vs €40 for a 1h car journey). Need to add for full transparency that this is a problem with some of the more "senior" admin staff and there are also friendly people.
Pros: The location and the food is great!
Cons: The staff is not familiar with English language. If one cannot speak French or Portuguese, he /she has to adopt body language.
Pros: Really nice staff, really nice food. House was a litle bit hot.
Cons: Very early In the morning people / workers talking loud next to the houses ....
Pros: Good location , food is good too. Musician playing guitar and singing during dinner time ! There is a boat trip right from the beach to go to la Rolas and other excursions !
Cons: The arrival welcoming could be improved. The staff does not speak good English or french so the communication was a bit difficult and sometimes you feel a bit let down .. nobody told us anything about activities , breakfast , infos in general . We always had to ask, in a mix of languages but not always understood... Good location , food is good too. Week end buffet is generous and also good but maybe they should let the guest know about it before they arrive and have « no choice »..
Pros: The location of the hotel is just magical. You will be surrounded by tropical trees, birds chanting and a long paradise beach that you can have all for yourself. The room was cozy and sparkling clean. Breakfast was great, with a lot of options.
Cons: The staff speaks only portuguese and french, so I had a little bit of a hard time communicating with them. Restaurant could have more vegetarian options for lunch and dinner, prices were a little high too.
Pros: The beach! Good for swimming and nice sand. Sea was warm. The staff were friendly and hospitable but not intrusive. Food was excellent and there was a good singer/guitarist playing during dinner. It was peaceful even with other quests staying.
Cons: The roads to get there were pretty rough in places - definitely recommend a 4x4!
You'll be centrally located in Caue Ilheu Das Rolas with a stay at Pestana Equador, minutes from Ilheu das Rolas Beach. Featured amenities include a business center, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. Planning an event in Caue Ilheu Das Rolas? This hotel features 1571 square feet (146 square meters) of event facilities. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge at scheduled times.
Pros: The tiny Ilhéu das Rolas (or "Islet of the Doves") is gorgeous and full of beautiful spots, including a few of the country's best beaches and diving locations. This is the memory that will stay with you the longest, together with the general friendliness of the locals. The Pestana Equador is blessed with this stunning location and provides a series of facilities that allow you to enjoy them, including the rental of boats, snorkelling and diving equipment, etc., along with just about the biggest swimming pool on the West Coast of Africa.
Cons: The bedrooms and the majority of facilities are a bit run down: I would not describe the bathroom in our suíte, for example, as fit for a 4-star hotel that charges 250 euros a night. The bedrooms, while reasonably roomy, are very basic; and the buffet meals are not very varied or creative. Worst of all: drinks are not included in the full pension, and anything with alcohol will cost more than in Europe.
Pros: Amazing location
Cons: The rooms should be much better and renewed for 300€ a night. They don’t match the high price. But the overall experience at the hotel is great
Pros: Friendly staff
Cons: A little too expensive for the facilities provided. You need to pay the boat to get there
Pros: Wonderful location with a nice beach. Our spacious chalet was very clean and we had a nice seabird. The food was very good as well - especially the breakfast. Huge saltwater pool for people who didn’t like the beautiful beach.
Cons: The rooms were a little bit dark - mine issue only
Pros: great food, fantastic pool view, beautiful island
Cons: ask for shuttle to get to the island
Cons: The whole hotel was one large building site. A real shame they did not shut down the place to do this works, or at least schedule them in low season.
Pros: Everything was good and the island is particularly beautiful.
Cons: The strong contrast between this oasis of luxury with the condition of the local people, especially those living just on the side of Pestana.
Pros: Large pool, good beach for Sao Tome, proximity to the equator mark and the layout is good.
Cons: The facilities seem a bit tired. Food could be improved.
When you stay at N Guembú Nature Resort in Sao Tome Island, you'll be 6 minutes by car from Jale Beach. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and coffee/tea in a common area. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The location is good. Close to some amazing desert beaches, first of all Praia Piscina.
Cons: The (very) anticipated payment of the full amount to be paid. Very small rooms. Expensive restaurant.
Pros: The owner was helpful and staff was nice. Beach is beautiful and restaurant area has a great view. Very quiet and peaceful
Cons: Rooms were very basic and although clean, a few stains.
Pros: The lodge is in a beautiful location with amazing views.
Cons: We don’t speak Portuguese so it was very difficult communicating with the staff at the lodge. There were two men, one younger and one cook. They were very kind but it was hard to get anything done because of the language barrier. This obviously was no one’s fault but it would be nice if they had someone there who spoke English or French.
Pros: Location is superb, although arriving there is somehow tricky if you don't like bumpy roads. Personnel is helpful and the bungalow was clean. The beach at 1 minute walking downstairs from the bungalow was simply awesome. A bit overpriced for what we found in the rest of the island, but definitively a great experience.
Pros: Location above 2 beautiful beaches is awesome.
Cons: The restaurant (like the rest of Sao Tome) had very limited choice - they had very limited stocks of wine and ran out
Cons: The owner pushed me to pay in advance, many times disturbing me with constant messages not to forget it. The staff didn't know which is our appartment on the arrival, after half an hour they realized that we have payed for big house. At the paying promised me to give the receive on the next morning, but pretended to forget about it. Low level service for highly overpriced money.
Pros: The location is gorgeous
Cons: For beach bungalows, they feel too closed up. Also, w When I took a shower, I flooded the bathroom because the shower surround is not properly sealed and the shower floor is not properly level. We had to move the bed to another wall of the bedroom wall because the air conditioning unit was blowing cold air straight to our heads when we were trying to sleep.
Pros: Foods and views from restaurant is literally AWESOME. I had the life-most-delicious octopus salad there. Also there are many cute cats that you can feel comfortable while you eat. Also the place is very very very clean and neat. It is highly recommended to people who want to escape the crowds and noises.
Cons: There was no wifi in the room, only at the restaurant which is located on top of the hill. And the beach looks bit dangerous with rocks and had TOO MANY mosquitos around the beach. It was impossible to lay down and do tanning cuz of the mosquitos. However still im recommending this place to people who want to relax themselves with amazing cuisines from local chefs at the restaurant.
Situated in Porto Alegre, Jalé Ecolodge offers accommodation with seating area. A terrace with sea views is offered in all units. Guests at Jalé Ecolodge can enjoy a continental breakfast. The restaurant serves local dishes Snorkelling can be enjoyed nearby. São Tomé is 41 km from Jalé Ecolodge.
Pros: Perfect beach, very quiet
Cons: Very bad oad conditions to the lodge
Pros: Amazing location on beautiful beach that you basically have for yourself. Huts are very basic (no electricity after 21:00, warm water only if asked for), but reasonably clean. Be aware that you are exposed to the wild, which we found fantastic, but is not for those who get scared of insects, crabs, etc. Dinner is simple, but home cooked and tasty. The security guard arranged for a reasonably priced and very nice trip to Ilas de Rolas.
Cons: Mattress needs replacement and bathroom would benefit from renovation (shower). Reasonably clean, but don't expect hotel quality. It is all about the remote and wild experience after all.
Pros: Sleepping with ocean as a soundtrack, in a paradise. The food was awsome, and the service as well.
Cons: I didn't like the mattress because it wasn't comfortable.
Pros: Location, location, location. Jale beach its beautiful and the whole experience of sleeping there and being able to see turtles and other animals it's unique. This lodge with some care has tremendous potential. For now just bring your tent and don´t stay here.
Cons: We are backpackers who are used to stay on dorms with basic everything. But when you pay 60 euros per night you expect a little bit more comfort, at least a comfy bed with clean sheets. We spent 2 nights here and we're full of bed bugs bites everywhere, we couldn't sleep because the place was so humid that everything inside was wet (bed sheets, towels..) the mattress was super uncomfortable and the smell was terrible. This place was not well kept, lamps missing, broken tap, really old and dirty blankets...
Pros: We were (almost) alone on our own private beach, only a few meters from the sea. The accommodation was comfy, the meals excellent. Cold showers only, although apparently you can ask for hot water if necessary.
