The breakfast was excellent and staff fantastic.
We thought it was an excellently appointed hotel, well situated to walk to the town centre or visit the local area. Staff were first class. The breakfast was excellent, as good as we´ve had in any hotel anywhere. Not so sure about the dinner though.
Cleanliness, good breakfast, good facilities -- esp. indoor pool. Remember to take your swimming caps!
The situation n ear the town centre and general atmosphere of the hotel. Decor is fresh and bright with plenty of light. The beds are very uncomfortable. Mattrsses are very hard and pillows are lumpy-not good for the many people..
good standard hotel good breakfast with fair sized bedroom and bathroom. close to centre of pleasent town. bed was a little unconfortable for my own liking.
Excellent location; quiet area, Very enjoyable and beautiful hotel. Large room, very comfortable and well decorated with a touch of Moorish styling. This was my third visit - each visit was just too short. I would have loved to stay much longer.
Buffet food and evening entertainment.
Pleasant room, excellent buffet food both breakfast and dinner, lots of comfortable seating around outside pool
the town and area were excellant. the hote had a good location and was clean. unaccomodating staff
We have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions over the last few years. The location/views from the river view rooms are beautiful. When we first stayed at the hotel the boat trip to the beach was free it is now 2.20 euros return pp - and the boat takes you to a part of the beach that has only 1 snack bar and 1 set of sun loungers/shades etc.. the cost of hiring these facilites are far too expensive and the snack bar prices were a complete rip off - very greedy!
The swimming pool is great. The ambience is very nice. It is very quiet at night. (1) Difficulty finding the hotel - a good detailed map should be published because the hotel is in a remote location from town along small roads. (2) Had to wait several hours (until 5pm) for the room to be ready.
very quiet,convenient,pools,beach ,buffet food
The ants nests in the room, the staff sprayed those they could see but it was ineffective, they need to destroy the nests. Offensive smells from the sewage tanks which were too close to our and nearby rooms.
Very friendly and sympathic staff. Location of the hotel. The ants in the room.
We have stayed at Vila Gale Albacora several times before - it is a lovely hotel, perfect location and you really feel like you can get away from it all there and have a truely relaxing time.
I booked because usually there is a private boat to take you out to the beach.A Unique selling point for this hotel. It was out of service. a bus service was laid on but took ages and we still had to wait at public jetty for public ferry to access main beach. Hotel guests had to pay extra charge for use of indoor pool. This was not explained to us. Our room became infested with ants on second night.
The hotel is a former tuna factory which gives the buildings a nice historic touch. The hotel area, buildings and pool are great and the landscape surrounding the hotel is amazing. The rooms could have been more comfortable and more soundproof.
this was a luxury stay in authentic impressive understated premises and fantastically located for when you wanted to step out of this chilled oasis and wander the streets.
It was very relaxing in the most wonderful building The only complaint was the price of drinks
Very tranquil. The pool area was good for relaxation after golf or a days siteseeing . Covenient location for the town centre restaurants etc. A bit formal
Central location and good initial reception. Parking was easy. Splendid, delicious breakfast. Lovely outdoor pool. Twin room, wasn't offered a double. Internet connection was difficult to obtain and when available, couldn't access any web site. Air conditioning was too cold, so had to turn it off. Window in the bedroom wouldn't open. The lock around the bedroom door was damaged and suggested that someone had tried a forced entry at some point.
The sense of calm and luxury. The room layout and view over the trees (Room No. 3). The orthopaedic kingsize bed, crisp sheets and pillows. The cuisine (a bit expensive) and the wonderful Arabian night with authentic music and dancing. The Pool area is very exposed and windy and the 'garden' looks unfinished and needs landscaping and care. Too much air-conditioning which wasn't needed.
Central location within the city. The swimming pool, when we arrived, was very cloudy and dirty due to what seemed a filtration problem. We did report the problem to the hotel but we were unable to use it during our stay which was very disappointing.
The staff is outstanding, the place is fantastic, great value for money, breakfast buffet (included in the price) is perfect, beds and sheets are very comfortable, good TV choice, room is well insulated, we highly recommend it We find the restaurant (a la carte) expensive if compared with restaurants in the area / the room lacks an electrical outlet for the laptop besides the internet outlet
Quality of staff ,service and location. lack of drawer space
Nice atmosphere and relaxing
The building is interesting, stylishly modernised and well located. The staff were friendly and attentive. There is a good pool and a gated car park.
The resort is located in one of the few unspoiled areas of the Algarve, in an environment protected area, far from the main centers. The access to the beach is direct, although the hotel beach is on the ria and not in the sea. One shall cross the ria during the low tide. The sea beach is one of the best kept secrets of Algarve: almost desert, sandy, long, and with warm waters. The resort is a German ‘island’ in the Algarve, as it is conceived specifically for these clients. However, it is very family friendly and pleasant hotel.
The location, the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. Liked everything.
Very friendly and helpful hotel staff. Clean, quiet double room overlooking back street, with balcony table, chairs and morning sun to enjoy free Wifi. Great view from roof terrace.
Good location (in the summer the ferry to the beach right outside the hotel). Breakfast ok in relation to the room price. Hotel's restaurant caused some noise in the evening (we had a room facing the street).
Our room was simple but very clean. Comfortable bed, shower good, and we were given the room we looked for as we stayed there before Reception while pleasant impacts very little on the hotel. They do not seem very interested in their guests as people. Breakfast was very basic, we bought our own muesli, the croissant were not good , but hey! this is a very good value hotel.
On paper, this seemed like an ideal place to stay. Listed as a 3-star establishment, it was on the boardwalk in Tavira, Portugal. We had reserved a double room. Much to our surprise, the double room consisted of 2-cots pushed together. While I do understand that "some" double rooms in Europe consist of 2 twin beds, these cots were extremely uncomfortable.
The hospitality, welcome, friendliness of staff and the location
Location Beds were TERRIBLE!
The hotel has a good location and is quiet. The staff were very friendly and helpful. the facilities were adequate bearing in mind the tariff. We would stay again if we were in the Tevira area.
Proximity to the centre of town, clean rooms and helpful staff NOt applicable
Very friendly, ideally placed hotel. Extremely helpful staff, clean and tidy and very good value.
No nonsense service - local to town centre Prices for drinks and snacks seemed a little high
very noisy room!
the quality of the staff was very good the room cleaning left a lot to be desired, not enough toilet paper and the cleaner left paper on the floor the whole time we were there
Well situated, clean and tidy Hotel was noisy at times
Staff very friendly and hotel spotless Noise from adjoining room, poor insulation
Great, big spacious apartments with fully functional kitchen. Big lounge room and dining table, bathroom was great. A great place to stay with a supermarket at the entrance for self catering. Pool ws lovely and clean and the grounds were really nice. The bar at the entrance we were told was also one of the best in town. It's a bit of a walk from town and there are not too many options to get there unless you have a car. We managed walking though since the weather was good. There are lots of mosquito's around this place, make sure you take spray and repellent.
Excellent apartments. Big,clean rooms nice area great swimming pool. Shopping, bars, restaurant in walking distance. Amaizing beach in Tavria. Great deal !
Goog clean well equiped appartment, nice site friendly staff
The apartment was well presented and very clean. Genorous living space and had a balcony for eating out on which was nice. The flyscreens on the windows were a good touch. Hotel staff very helpful even when we turned up in the middle of the night. On site free parking is available. Excellent midi-supermarket within 100m walk or so. In peak season when we were there (late August) it was very hot at night and although the windows do have flyscreens on which were essential, the nearby road (evening racetrack at times) and bar are quite noisy and so would definitely benefit from Air Conditioning or even an electric fan. I would say it's also necessary to have a car if you want to stay here as it's not right in the thick of the nearby town of Tavira (it's not far, but a short drive in my view).
Fresh and clean room. Very narrow double bed for two grown up people. Pool area was busy with small children most of the time.
We enjoyed the silence and the nature but maybe because we were there in October. The green part of this park is very good taken care of. The cleaningladies hardly cleaned.
Fabulous setting. Good clean self-catering facilities. On-site amenities excellent.
The grounds were beautiful and well cared for. None
The surrounding greenery Small swimming pool, very noisy at night, poor insulation, insufficient bedlinnen, too many cars/parking problem
Nice beach although it would need to be cleaned up. The resort is a nice hub to spend your vacation IF you have a car and a renovated apartment well located in the complex. Personnel is helping and friendly. We stayed there a few days but we were away all the time except early in the morning and late in the evening. Tavira is a nice city and there is shopping center.I would recommend this place if you have a car (and intend to use it!) and know what to expect but I would reconsider my choice if you look for a fine resort where to stay for all your vacation. Infrastructures (very limited) should be developped and apartments should be massively renovated. Numerous dead trees should be replaced. Massive pidgeons army (and the dirt that goes with it...) on a dead palm tree near the flat entrance. Pool is quite small. Little train to the Barril beach doesn't conform to schedules: service stopped one day at 4 PM without any notice to people at the beach. That means you wait there for nothing and then you've just got to walk back... Beds do not respond to reasonable criteria and blanckets are way to used.
we enjoyed the place because it was quiet and it had a bit of everything you could need the apartment where we stayed was old and it show
a lot of space, nice gardens, friendly people, nice swimming pool
Great appartments and great value for money Absolutely nothing.
Easy access to the beach. Space for children to play safely. Quiet nights. Well kept gardens. Choice of restaurants and comfortable areas to sit outside. Good bed linen, towels and tea towels. Maid service. Reasonably well appointed kitchen. Good hotwater system. The lack of a kettle and tea cups too small.
all hotel facilities available, but yet the rooms/apartments are like a private holiday house.
Stunning grounds, very quiet and exclusive. Excellent service. Let's just say the meals were not cheap. Especially for Portugal. Only english channels on tv were news and kids cartoons. Not very much on offer on room service menu, and only available at limited times.
it is a beautiful place, with enough activities to fill a nice long weekend without the need to leave the gorgeous grounds! and very baby friendly. need to improve service and menu at pool bar. being told upon arrival that the only restaurant at lunch is the pool bar, then being told at the bar that there was a 1 hour wait for a table - while there were bar stools and 10 empty tables - was ridiculous. we were, however, sent to a very nice restaurant in town with much better food than at the bar - so maybe skip the pool bar altogether.
We were only staying over night having attended an external function, so we didn't explore the facilities. However the breakfast was excellent, the rooms of a very good standard. The setting is lovely. Everything was very satisfactory
The gardens. Quiet surroundings. Couldn't sleep very well. Very noisy room. I could hear my "neighbours" in the toilet, people speaking in the next room, doors closing.... The black-out didn't cover the window completely. Breakfast service was poor. Anyone can get in the hotel even during the night time as there is absolutely no control.
Charming resort, with attentive, yet discreet staff. Room was very spacious and comfortable, and felt like a home away from home. Nothing.
Resturant hearing pepole in the nexst room thin walls
position, staff brilliant, quiet. i would not hesitate to recomment to friends. we could not find any faults.
Vila Monte was amazing. The resort has only 50 rooms but what makes it fabulous is that these rooms are spread over 3 well distanced buildings and it also has 3 pools so you hardly see anyone else. Its very tranquil and relaxing. Hard beds!
Very nice surroundings. Classy look. Good rooms. Really nice personnel. In the room: poor TV, poor TV chanel selection.
Excellent service by staff. Good location and facilities.
wonderful location, facilities, staff is very nice
The rural setting and relative closeness to Tavira for restaurants and bars
A beautiful spot and made to feel very at home.
I liked the fact that it was near Tavira and yet quiet. Also, it so a fair distance from my favorite beach, Cacela. My room was big and quite comfortable, and the bed was wonderfull. The bathroom was also very nice I think they really need to improve the acess road to the hotel and I would have liked a pool. Also, I think the surrounding garden needs some improvement
Very peaceful place but near of Tavira. The acceses to the hotel.
The very kind reception and personal appraoch of the landlady. Just not everything was ready. Ther were some works on a terrace. Not to disturbing!
friendly staff, nice breakfast, lovely view, peace and quiet. Great place for couples, families and everyone who desires nice break from a hectic life. I spent there very romantic time with my girlfriend. It was excellent choice :)
The international owners were very nice and professional. The environment is very "International" and not local, like anything touristic in Tavira.
The ambience, decor and lovely gardens and views. The relaxed atmosphere and bonhommie created by the owners who were extemely helpful and informative about the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Everything. As close to paradise as it gets No....just a fantastic place
Old farm house in the country, quite, and peacefull very good breakfasts and service.Room was spotless
The beautiful setting, the lovely decor, the warm welcome and all of the thoughtful little extras that really make a difference.
Friendly and relaxed atmosphere Some aspects basic but others might consider it "rustic". No power shower
We appreciated very much the cosy and romantic ambiance of garden and house. The warm hospitality of the owners made us feel at home. none at all!
Very chilled and relaxed atmosphere.....Even though you are in the counrtyside you can still go for some food and drinks without driving (We only found this out the last night unfortunately). I believe someone has mentioned a Mosquito problem.......Well there isn't one. The only mosquitos are at night in the outdoor sheltered seating area, there are however candles to keep them away and it does the job well enough. My partner is an insect magnet and she only got bitten once,
Quiet location with easy access to a main road to explore the Algarve / or even go to Spain-we went to Seville, 90 min drive/; very quaint place; very helpful staff /Robin provides you with a local map with directions and places to eat as well as one of Tavira's-4 km away/; nice beach not far from the house; lovely breakfast around the pool /weather permitting/;the scented air in the garden in the evening; spacious room Re: other reviews-they mostly accurately reflect our experience but one made us laugh upon our arrival there and being apprehensive because of the info there. It said that the place was inaccessible by car and one needs as 4x4 the least-that's an absolute rubbish! We had no problem at all with our not very big car.
Relaxing / walking on the near-by beaches. Used as base for trip to Capa de Vincent.
An amazing location with unbelievable, very quiet with a very friendly hostess. The breakfast was a bit bored.
fabulous venue, would recommend it to others breakfasts were a bit basic, some fresh fruit, eggs or salad would have been appreciated
We travelled for several weeks in Spain and Portugal and Forte De Sao Joao Da Barra was our absolute favorite place to stay. The tranquility, privacy and luxury of the Forte combined with the easy walking distance to the beach and town made this a perfect place. The views from the Forte are unbelievable. The hotel is mainted to perfection and the architecure and accomodations are magnificant. Perfect. Nothing
If you are concerned about ambiance, setting, friendliness and something more than ordinary, you must stay here. The old fort setting is phenomenal. Sitting on the old fort walls having breakfast or a cocktail while overlooking the Isla de Tavira and the Atlantic was breathtaking. Cabanas de Tavira is a small tourist beach town where we had several good meals, met some very nice locals and is totally different than the old Fort. I would think that this B&B is more suitable for couples than families, but given that if I ever return to Cabanas I will surely bring my children so they can experience this as well. Trying to locate the elusive Sr. Gabriel. We found it easier to pay for water service than wait for the paid person for the hotel to return from his seemingly endless breaks.
The staff was accomodating and knowledgeable of the region. The forte is rustic, unique and intriguing. The hotel is secluded down a dirt road, but has it's own character. It is not on the beach, rather it is perched above the water (as a forte). The rooms do not have veiws, but are very upscale.
A delightful, quiet and private location in a rural setting. It is only a relatively short drive to a number of Algarve beaches and nightlife - but without the noise, people and resort atmoshere. Although the facilities are communal, there was no sense of proximity to other guests. The breakfast in the garden setting was delightful. Nothing.
A beautiful hotel with fabulous gardens, a 24 hour honesty bar, friendly staff/owner and sensational breakfasts
wonderful people, location and breakfast. The hotel is charming. we would go back No
The hospitality is unsurpassed. The breakfast is something special. If Quinta da Lua was in Ireland it would definitely be in the blue book. standard.
Very friendly reception. Beautiful rooms and gardens. Good location.Very relaxed. The waitress at breakfast was very pedantic - her way or the wrong way.
Everything at the hotel was excellent, the staff, food, service, facilities, pool etc. The hotel was close enough to the beaches, Tavira and the Spannish border, however a car is recommended. We had peace and quiet, apart from some local dogs barking, and really enjoyed our stay. Would stay again. Nothing
Quinta da Lua was perfect in every way. The gardens were lovely, there were areas in the shade, hammocks, sunbeds round the beautiful pool. The rooms were bright and clean very modern. The breakfast were delicious. We would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a quiet break away in perfect surroundings.
Beautiful location, superb food and caring and attentive staff. Ideal for quiet luxurious getaway.
Everything was superb.
The hotel was superb and well exceeded our expectations. All the food was perfect including dinner. A perfect gem with food to die for! Wasps were a problem at breakfast but we discovered that most could be lured away from the table by placing meat a short distance away. Perhaps consideration could be given to attracting the wasps away from the breakfast area on a permanent basis.
It was very central The room was dark and damp and there was no plug for the bath
It was in a good location We were allocated a room on the 1st floor which was severly lacking natural light, smelt damp and the bed linen was musty. I asked for another room and was told nothing available but in the morning we paid more and were given a room on the 2nd floor which had a balcony and more natural light. The bed and pillows were uncomfortable and the towels smelt musty. Shower was good, we didn't use the pool so can't comment on that.
The manager Lack of breakfast
We loved about everything at the Tavira Inn "Casa do Rio". Factually: 1) Nice room, with superb decorations; 2) The wonderful sea water pool; 3) The gentle host Sebastiao Bastos; 4) The proximity of Tavira's town center. We didn't miss the lack of a breakfast included, since there are lots of places near the hotel. Nothing worthing mention.
large rooms, quiet, parking! breakfast at the hotel would be nice!
very quiet no
Very nice and tastefull room, fresh, no need of aircondition and good location.Owner very friendly and hospital. In the old Bathroom it works all. You need to get prepared to undergo the noisy train passing a very few times on the metalbridge but already from 6h in the morning. Some breackfeast or a way to have the possibility to prepare yourselff some thea, toasts would be nice.
We liked the owner, the river view, the swimming pool, and the location as it was close to bars and restaurants.
Our host, Sebastio, is the best thing about this hotel, treating the two of us like personal guests rather than mere room occupants. From the time he volunteered to pick us up at the train station to complementary drinks in his private bar, to bar-hopping together at night to chauffeured outings to the beach and the countryside, to our last Tavira coffee together in the town square before he roared off on his Harley Davidson, we had his personal attention. Bravo y obligado, Sebastio! The only negative was that we had only two days there.
The peace and tranquility with a lovely pool area. The prices charged at the bar compared with other bars in Tavira.
