Well-appointed rooms Staff could have been a lot friendlier
Very helpful staff, the receptionist in particular helped with getting me a taxi from the station to the hotel when the weather was terrible. Light bulb not working in the reading lamp
My wife and I were staying at the hotel for our wedding in the adjacent Crichton Memorial Church and Easterbrook Hall. The service during our stay was excellent, but what stuck out was the food - a very high standard. The staff took care of our guests very well, no mean feat given we had pre-booked a total of 50 rooms in the hotel. They also agreed to keep the bar open late, always a winner in my eyes! Very impressed. I always like having access to leisure facilities.
The room was nice and the bed was very comfortable. The pillows were quite hard, and the breakfast was cold! The tea and coffee was hidden in a cupboard!
clean tidy and very comfortable value for money room Breakfast was slow and had to ask for refill coffee twice
My daughter I'd gettin married at the hotel n I thought it was a perfect location. The hotel will meet all our needs. Well impressed with the setting.Great breakfast. :-) Hard pillows n no bath kn the room.
the setting is peaceful and having all the grounds of the Crichton estate makes for a green and safe environment
Free wifi TV reception apalling
Friendly staff. Good Food. Lovely clean hotel. Would book again and recommend to friends.
food was great and staff were friendly and efficient battery on door lock failed and we were locked out of room for 20 mins as manager who had master key was not working
the inclusive rate for breakfast was very good value for money
Convenient location. Good value. Nice Rooms. Occasionally noisy guest in above or nearby rooms. Not a major problem though.
Good location, nice old building Poor room facilities - no bathroom mirror, no bedside light, pathetic shower. Breakfast started too late for, and overall the hotel was expensive for what was available
The room was very cosy, the food was excellent and the staff were efficient and helpful. Single room was a little small would have liked a bath rather than a shower
The peace and comfort The bathrooms could be improved. They functioned fine but looked a bit tired and need of new tiling
Friendliness and attentiveness of staff
The room was spacious, had a four poster bed and was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. The bathroom was tiny compared to the large bedroom and was rather tired and dated. Dinner was very average and the restaurant and bar areas had zero atmosphere. 1980's music playing at such a low volume it was pointless. Staff, whilst polite, didn't seem very customer oriented. I was made to wait ages to check in and then again when trying to order drinks even though I was the only one at the bar
Food was excellent
Very good restuarant
I found the staff really friendly and helpful and ate in the hotel restaurant each night, although relatively empty I found the food to be of an exceptional standard. I would recommend this hotel for a short stay.
The Street lights shone into the room as it only had blinds.
Food, location. Weather, but you can't blame the hotel for that!
The quality and cleanliness of the bedroom. Service and pleasantness of staff at breakfast.
Quiet, Neat Presentation, Rural location(small village, very helpful staff, very good local dinner and breakfast menu, overallo good value for money
The room was clean and fresh, food excellent, very pleasant staff both friendly and welcoming. Enjoyed a meal in the lounge bar in the evening. Nothing
Rooms really cosy. Bar staff pleasant and food quick and hot
al but no elevator elevator
Nice clean room, and good food and service in the bar Limited Breakfast period ie 7:45 - 9 at the weekends! And few staff available to service breakfast. We had to go looking for someone to serve us
Excellent food, very clean and friendly staff
Excellent room facilities and breakfast
Central location and interestin art work nothing bad
The cairndale was a convenient stop-over location after a Scottish and overseas family re-union in the south-west.
Pool and gym were excellent. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Rooms ok but a bit dated. Breakfast was ok but unexceptional.
A la carte menu customer handling of complaints
Central location and close to railway station. Good leisure facilities. Housekeeping staff walking straight into the room without knocking first!
The 24hr. receptionist Breakfast, Beans were cold and fried eggs overcooked, seem to be missing a plan for how to run a multi-time multibreakfast for many people
Loaction to the Town Centre The room and the Hotel was very warm and could have done with Air Conditioning or at least a Fan provided within the rooms
Convenience to the town centre of Dumfries Every thing was fine and suitable for the occasion
Food was excellent. The room was clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. There was little we could fault the hotel for.
Can't say that I liked anything 'best' we had a very enjoyable and relaxing time and found everyone and everything to our liking.
The food - especially the excellent full breakfast! - We've suffered over the past three years with food below standard at other hotels (we take 3 holidays per year) n/a
Room was good, staff were very friendly. Arrived at hotel at 10.30am to ask if we could leave our bags prior to checking in at 2.00pm. Our room was ready and they checked us in there and then. Situated very close to town centre but still in a peaceful and pleasant area of Dumfries. None ! No complaints at all !
It was quiet, the staff were very friendly and efficient without being intrusive. The breakfast was excellent again the staff were catering for every need.
The staff were very friendly & helpfull. The lounge & bistro appeared to be recent additions to the hotel and were very comfortable. Excellent breakfast. Well kept gardens & outside seating area.
Welcome, Comfort, Cleanliness and excellent food. No
i liked the location of this hotel,as it was close to the train station and the town centre.
Very comfortable and clean throughout, would go back again. No
The restaurant staff were particularly pleasant, helpful and welcoming.
Friendly and helpful staff. Good pub food. Efficient breakfast service. Clean rooms. Good shower. Lots of towels.
very good value for money, the breakfast very good
Bedrooms were spacious well fitted and homely.Food, albeit served in the main bar was good quality with a comprehensive menu. Staff friendly Two minor criticisms were the lack of a residents lounge area, and having to use the main bar as a reception area.
Cannot fault it. Excellent breakfast polite staff & room. Real value for money . None
The food Just a small point. The tables in the bar/eating area were always sticky, they need to be cleaned properly.
Helpful staff and a clean, comfortable room with fresh flowers. The whole place had a friendly atmosphere. Central position.
good beds, well-equipped, good breakfast
Friendly staff, good food and excellent cleanliness
We were accommodated in one of the "cottages" which was excellent. The food / restaurant / service was very good.
Friendly atmosphere, made to feel welcome.
Nothing, we couldn't wait to leave. Despite the fact that the hotel looks attractive & promising from the outside, inside is a different matter. Rooms are in need of updating, hotel lacked atmosphere, food & service in the restaurant was poor. Was not value for money at all & wouldn't recommend this hotel in the current state that it is in.
The setting and building was nice. . . the shower was good. Disappointed with view. . .
Great location and the food was excellent
Excellent location and grounds. Very comfortable room and public area. Peacefull walks along riverbank. Food very well presented.
the old world comfort; the log fire and the leather chairs. the food was a delight, and the staff could not do too much to help. i was also very happy to find that the pots of coffee that we had were not billed for. this little extra makes one feel welcomed even more. have been twice already in 2010 and will go again! really, there was nothing that i had a problem with
The food, the gardens, and the hiking were spectacular! There was an odd smell (old lamb meat??) on the first floor, and all of my belongings smelled strongly like this for the remainder of my 2 week vacation. There were also numerous small black flies in my room, which for the price seemed a little ridiculous. I didn't complain because other than that, the place was quite quaint and the gardens were gorgeous. The food was pricey, at around $55 per person for dinner (one drink and 3 courses), however delectable!
Surroundings helpful & cheerful staff price very good food N/A
lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings.
The setting of the hotel very peaceful and relaxing
