The owner was very kind, spoke great English and had tons of recommandations for your trip to Tokyo. The room are traditionnal with aircon. Great sleep after a long day of walking around the city.
The host was incredibly nice and took a lot of time to give us a tour of the ryokan and showed us various locations on the map. Very reliable. So cheap it feels like stealing. Except for the rustical atmosphere the bath, shower etc. could rival a business hotel.
If you don't like sleeping practically on the floor, this is not the accomodation for you, though it is a ryokan so that much is obvious.
The house is so clean. The owner is really lovely, he takes time to explain all that you had to know for tourism
Ryokan Nakadaya was clean and simple. It offered the privacy that I needed and is in a quiet part of town. Tatsuo-san, the caretaker, is what makes the experience memorable. His kindness extends to answering any questions, turning on the AC in advance for you to return to a cool room after a sweltering summer's day, gifting you on your departure where he takes your parcels and races you on foot to the nearest train station - still a good 10 minutes away. Thank you, Tatsuo-san.
Ryokan Nakadaya isn't the most conveniently located if you're looking to be close to hotspots like Shinjuku or Shibuya. It's towards the end of the Hibiya Line, in the northern suburbs, so the commute takes patience and will add up in cost. The trade-off is the peace and quirkiness of shitamachi culture - the sort of Japan Tokyo isn't popularly known to be, and for this reason, perhaps worth exploring.
Tatsuo-san was very helpful and welcoming. We liked the possibility to do laundry and dry it on the roof.
Every sink could have maybe used a soap, but other than that, not much to complain about.
With a stay at Ryokan Nakadaya in Tokyo (Taito), you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Sensō-ji Temple and Asakusa Shrine. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
