Pros:

The car was great.

Cons:

I rarely rent cars so this may be common knowledge, but when they say you dont need to return the car with a full tank of petrol, you should still do it. Hertz charged me themselves on a per litre basis to a full tank, then added an extra 20% fee on top. They should have advised me this on pick up!

I had tried to get a smaller automatic car but apparently there is only one Golf @ Toulouse. I come several times a year - is it possible to reserve the only one ?

Pros:

The car drove nicely and got good gas mileage

Cons:

The Hertz rental page I selected on line showed a picture of a small van to accommodate seven adults, but the actual car was a very small station wagon which was extremely cramped and with absolutely zero space for luggage. Extremely misleading.

I received a car with 3/4 tank full. They told me to try and return it close to that. I tried guessing and ended up filling tank up. The man at the counter during checkout told me it was precious customers fault. I should have received rental with full tank. Now I ended up donating extra gas money to Alamo and feel like I was ripped off. I would like a discount off my rental.

I reserved mistakenly an electric-car. The staff was kindly enough to change that to a hybrid car. It would be nice to have a notice if a customer reserves a electric car despite a long distance drive or a drop-off from the pick-up place.

Pros:

Brand new, 80km, Skoda Fabia. One way drop-off from Toulouse to Bordeaux.

Cons:

This is the first time we have used Sixt - having hired almost 50 cars from Toulouse airport over the years . We booked to collect the car from the airport which was confirmed on the initial booking but then without our knowledge, changed to a town pick-up on the final confirmation 2 days before pick-up - it took 3 emails to get it put right. The price was quoted in £ but invoiced in Euros - if we had known that we would have saved bank exchange charges by using a Euro bank account rather than a Sterling account. On our return we found that they had credited our account with the hire charge only to then take it again, incurring further exchange charges - the reason being, although we weren't told at the time, that we had used a different credit card for the security deposit to the one used for the original booking. 3 further emails but no apology or offer to re-imburse the extra bank charges - just an arrogant conceit on behalf of both Sixt France and Sixt UK that 'Sixt is right, the customer is wrong'. Decent cars let down by sloppy administration and unhelpful staff.

Cons:

Very unclear insurance policy. I had to pay more than double the rental price to get just a basic insurance. I couldn’t get a clear explanation at pick up of the insurance I got, and it was not possible to modify the contract online to understand the insurance policy or to add an insurance.

Car was very comfortable, clean , more than enough power, pick up was sooo easy, drop off a little disappointing as there were no persons on the counter and we really wanted to know about the deposit return. In the end we had to drop the key and run for our boarding, but was sorted very easy next day by phone call.

I was able to choose the exact car I wanted and was even able to reserve a cooler and boogie board to use for the week. The car was in like-new condition. The free shuttle was convenient, fast and the drivers were nice. The location was a little bit further from the airport, but it wasn't a problem.

It was the first time we rented via Turo, so I don't have a good base reference to compare in general, and can only compare to car rental experiences with commercial fleets (like Budget or Enterprise). In general it was okay -- we made it to where we were going and back, with no major issues. It's doable. However, there were some "surprises" where things didn't quite got as we expected: * We made rental reservation with expectation that we're picking up at the airport. When we got there, it turned out that the car is not at the airport, and the address given to us turned out to be what seemed to be Portland's airport Fire Rescue Tower (where, obviously, we can't even walk to or be at). We called the owner, and turned out that the car is at some house that's "not far" from the airport, and gave us new address. So additional expense of taking Uber/Lyft to get to the car (and apparently that address exists in two neighboring towns, and somehow Uber/Lyft took us first to the wrong one, so we had to take another ride, but that's not a Turo issue, just more expense as a consequence of car not being at the airport as promised). * When we got there, we called the owner to get the keys: "-- Keys are under front door's floormat. -- Nope, they're not there. -- Then try mailbox? -- Yes, they're there." The owner wasn't there, which is okay to do this all remote, but would be nicer if owner was in general "on top of things" such as where the car is and where it is expected to be picked up, where exactly are its keys, etc. * Then owner requested that prior to return we take the car to be washed and cleaned inside and out. We neither planned on looking for car detailing places in Portland, nor for time that it would take away from sightseeing, nor for extra substantial expense it would be. We pushed back and the owner backed off saying that he'll let it go due to confusion with pickup location (and apparently he didn't send some email that he was supposed to send, or something along those lines). * And while the car wasn't too dirty, it wasn't clean to begin with (which made detailing request that more amusingly odd). Crumbs on floor and seats and luggage compartment. Worst part was that windshield was dirty on the inside that was minor unpleasant at daytime, but as driving progressed into night time, it was quite significant as it was blurring lights and affected visibility substantially. * We also added additional driver thru Turo and let the owner know. The owner requested that we send him picture of drivers license directly to him. We refused (as it didn't seem right, given that Turo is the one that manages that aspect) and he backed off. * Of course, additional expense of Uber/Lyft after return drop-off as we weren't dropping it off at the airport as originally planned. So all in all we probably spent additional $50-60 in Uber/Lyft for getting to and from cars location instead of it being in the airport, and lost about 3+ hours for dealing with additional unplanned travel. The rest was okay. Car drove fine and didn't give any problems.
