Pros: Relaxed and good customer service. Was able to drop off the car at a different location than I picked it up, in fact was able to leave it at my hotel and they picked up the car there. There was a little bit of leeway on the amount of gas to keep in the car upon return. Overall, very happy with the price, service, and the vehicle.
Cons: No negatives or surprises which is always nice.

Helpful attendant made the difference
Pros: Excellent service by Gentry, the person who processed our car rental.
Cons: Flexibility to accomodate customer needs, we needed a van because of a death in the family. We got what we needed with at an affordable rate. Took just 10 minutes total.

Cons: upon arriving at logan airport, where I believed I had reserved the car, the agent informed me that the reservation was for an off-site budget office. They could give me a car, but would charge me more than double. They suggested I take a cab to the off-site office, which I did ($45). Upon arriving at the off-site office, they informed me that I could not use my debit card to rent the vehicle, and I could only do that at the airport office. I found myself stranded in downtown Boston with my luggage and no way to rent a vehicle other than to spend another $45 to get back to the airport! All in all, rental + taxi + add-ons (toll transponder) was more than 3 times the quoted price.

Pros: How close it was to my apartment.
Cons: The service at this location was horrible. Right from walking in it seemed like the representatives didn't care at all and to be honest I'm not gonna spend money at a place to be mistreated.

Update your pickup addresses
Pros: The car was fine, drop-off easy and conveniently located in Logan airport.
Cons: My receipt gave me the wrong pickup location in Boston. I walked 30 minutes to get to a location that had closed ages ago, and then had to walk an additional 20 minutes (in the opposite direction) to get to the actual pickup location. Then I waited 40 minutes for a car. Thanks.

Misleadimg address for pickup
Cons: We found out when we got to the airport that to pick up the car we had to go into downtown Boston to pick up the car--we were trying to get to a family reunion and could not do that. Fortunately a wonderful agent rebooked us for a car at the airport or we would have been in trouble. The car description should also say whether or not the pickup is at the airport. The car was fine.

Pros: The car we received was fine
Cons: Check in at Boston Logan Budget desk was really poor. This was a prepaid booking and upon approaching the counter I was told that the class of car I had booked was not available. The class was a 'standard - Chrysler 200c or similar'. I was told that we could be upgraded to a small 4x4 which I thought, okay fine. There was no mention of cost for this upgrade until signing the T&Cs at the end of the booking on the machine that I noticed it was an additional $5 a day. When I asked about this, the lady said she could put me in a 2 door car without any upgrade cost. That would mean I would be receiving a car below the grade I had booked but paying the same. She would not upgrade for free so I had to pay the $5 a day more for this larger car.
I realise the cost is minimal but I would like to think the principle is that if the car you book & prepay for is out of stock, you get upgraded to the next size up free of charge. Not rushing to book with budget again, that's for sure when there's so many options in that one terminal. Disappointing and rude service.
Cons: Only had compact cars while other sizes were available for the wild card reservations.

Surprises at every turn
Cons: Two major issues:
1) The rental agent tried to convince me at the counter at pickup that I should never use Kayak insurance - essentially trying to upsell me on Dollar's insurance
2) Twice I had to argue with them about fees. Both times they claimed that my rate had changed b/c I showed up either 10 mins too early or 10 mins too late (at pick up and drop off, respectively). Unfortunately, these changes would have resulted in an additional $600 in fees (on a $200 rental), which is clearly outrageous. Luckily I was able to work with them and they acted reasonably.

I will definitely rent from Dollar Car Rental agai
Pros: The location was good for both pick up and drop off. A shuttle brought us from the airport and took us back. The car was nice, clean, it was a very good value compared to what other companies had to offer.
Cons: There was a long line to pick up. The person who helped us kept on trying to sell (or make us pay) for things we didn't need, like EZPass and other things and told us that if we returned the car early we'll get charged an early return fee, which was not true.
Other than that nothing bad to say.

Forgotten by Dollar at the Boston Airport Location
Pros: Nissan drives very smoothly. The toll payment option more than paid for itself.
Cons: After choosing the car that I wished to drive, the Boston airport location failed to assign the correct car to my contract. In fact, they failed to assign any car at all !!! I was treated rudely when by the employees in the drop-off area when returning the car. They also did not give me a receipt when I requested one. Thus, I was forced to go to the Dollar office on the second floor to get a printed receipt.

Pros: I liked that they were understanding when our flight plans were delayed.
Cons: we only had two people and I wanted a SUV that was small. I'm not sure if it was due to the delay in the flight but I got a much bigger SUV.
I didn't like that I had to pre pay for an EZ pass for the whole week, I'm not sure if that amount was fair since my relatives pay $30/month.

Cons: Did not know how the toll thing went getting off of the airport so.... was kind of talked into getting the EZ pass thing. Since we headed to NH and did not go through any tunnels don't know if it was really necessary to pay the $59 rather than the less than $20 total for the tolls we saw along the way. Guess we need to be more educated consumers about such things when going to an unfamiliar area. Brought the car back on fumes so the gas buy was worth it to us. So it worked out to over $100/day with the add ons which seems a bit expensive to me for a Yaris.

Pros: Convenient check in once I left the counter and check out.
Cons: Check in at the counter was a hassle. Tried to use debit card which was not accepted. Maybe it was mentioned in the fine print, I don't know, but I still don't understand why that's not an acceptable form of payment considering all the information they require of you. The agent did not outline other acceptable forms of payment until asked. Fortunately my wife had her credit card handy.
Pros: After arguing with them they removed the charge for the extra day.
Cons: Very rude people. The location of the cars is in a parking structure that will take you anywhere from 5-15 mins to enter or leave. But this is not taken into consideration for the timing of the vehicle. So if you are 15 mins late (even though our actual rental started 30 mins late due to wait for car and the parking structure) which we were they will try to charge you for an extra day! And when you dispute it they get all high and mighty and rude. Not to mention we requested a toll tag while renting, which they never gave us. So we spent the entire trip trying to avoid toll booths because Alamo would have charged us for that otherwise (I called and checked).

Cheaper than the airport
Pros: Great place to pick up car when if leaving Boston after a few days. We arrived at Logan airport, took a shuttle to our hotel, stayed a few days in Boston without a car and then picked up our rental at this Alamo's convenient downtown location. Prices were significantly lower than at the airport offices. It was easy to drive back to the location for the drop off when we were flying out of Logan on our return flight. We avoided rush hour, followed Google Maps and didn't have any issues. Since we had some large bags we called Uber, who arrived in 3 minutes, and we were at the airport in 15 minutes at a cost of $16.20.

Car was dirty, poorly running, + customer service
Pros: Worst experience renting a car ever.
Cons: - Car was very dirty when I picked it up, including the inside of the windows (smudged)
- Car was VERY LOUD on the highway (anything above 40 mph) and the rear cabin shook. Seemed as though there was a rear tire misalignment. I felt unsafe driving the car on the highway.
- Customer service was useless. I called the first day I had the car to see if I could exchange it for a different one at another Thrifty location (I was traveling alot). Lady could not help me find another Thrify location or guarantee that I would get another car.
- I will never rent from Thrifty again.

Actual charge exceeded estimated charge by 100%
Cons: I got an estimation of $408 and ended up with $790. I purchased an additional $165 insurance but I was not aware that I had to buy additional LIS for $200. There was an additional $120 for easy pass charge (which is mandotory in Boston)

Pros: That after much insistence I was given the ca class reserved and being charged.
Cons: At the counter was asked if want a costly insurance or ok just with basic, as if the basic was not an up charge, yet it was. Of greater annoyance was reserving a Ford Focus or equivalent and having to argue in the garage pickup that a Ford Fiesta is the equivalent of a Focus just because Hrifty considers it to be.
Cons: I had to pick up the car in a different locale than it was reserved bc they had no cars. Costed me over an hr additional time. Also, car could have been cleaner, but no big deal.

Pros: Car was ready and clean.
Cons: They moved location into a Sheraton hotel. Had to ask businesses in area where they had moved. No signage. At drop off there was no one working the desk. Just a sign saying they'd be back in 30 m and to complete a form and drop off with hotel valet. We never could find the "form".

Downgraded and then charged additional??
Pros: KAYAK offered me this best price - get a jeep. So I take it.
Cons: Didn't get a jeep - "oh there will be a huge wait" guy at the counter says at 9:15pm. Instead he gives me a choice of 4 full size sedans. Fine.
Then, I return the car - early (7am instead of 2pm), with a full tank of gas. I get home and they've charged me an additional 28.75 over what KAYAK charged me already for the full rental.

Pros: Timely handling pickup and drop-off, clean vehicle. Friendly staff.
Cons: Ordered full size car, received upgrade to small SUV (Jeep), comfort of ride not as good.
Cons: We waited at Logan for an hour and a half to get a car. The person behind the counter shared that there were only 4 total employees (including the manager) at that location and that it was unlikely that one of them would be able to help customers at the desk. While some wait was expected, an hour and a half is far too long.

Great staff at Logan International
Pros: I thought the staff was excellent - friendly and patient. Payless cost slightly more than a few other companies but the line was MUCH shorter and was worth every penny compared to those standing in line for an hour.
Cons: My car was not cleaned out - still had trash from last renter.

Cons: There were 15 people in line and one agent working on a Saturday morning. We waited over an hour to get our car. Pretty much all the other rental car agencies there had multiple people working and therefore lines which actually moved. Our line literally had at least three people who left line to go over to a different agency.

Self Serve Car Rental?
Pros: The few folks working at PayLess were very nice and working very hard, there were just too few of them.
The car ran well.
Cons: Bait and switch on the rental car - got "upgraded" to a vehicle I didn't want. Because of understaffing, it took an hour in line to get the car. When returning the car, there was nobody to check folks out - cars backed up out of the entrance. Customers didn't know what to do as there was literally nobody in the lot to help. We actually needed to ask people working at Avis what we should do and they told us to go in to the rental counter (where there was 1 person working) to check the car back in. Anyone with a tight schedule would have had a challenge making their flights.

Pros: The car ran well. The clerk at the front desk was very kind and extremely helpful on check-in.
Cons: I had to go search for my own car in the lot. The first car I got was filthy and smelled like smoke. The second was decently clean. On return of the car, no one was available. I was late for a flight and had to go to the front desk and wait in line to give them my return mileage, making me even more late.

Cons: No one was at the counter when I dropped off and there were not clear instructions on what to do. Talked with an employee from another rental company and they told me what needed to be done.
Cons: I reserved a full size SUV and they gave me a RAV4 and said it was similar. It was not large enough and they would not correct it so I asked them to cancel it. The rep told me I had to go hunt the manager down myself. When I refused he called him. After a 15 minute wait I was told they cancelled it but didn't want to give me a receipt until I insisted. Another rep then told me to "shut up about it". Never rent from them in Boston! I have used them elsewhere and they were fine

Things were great once I got in the car
Pros: The Kia Sol was nice to find in mid-size. I enjoyed the car and checking out the features.
Cons: All-in-all, I had lots of issues renting, as it was expected that I was a visitor to the state, and no one at any of the rental places made it clear what that meant I needed to bring or do differently until I was already in the location, an hour out of my way. Getting into the rental location was a pain, and took numerous loops around the building to get the right entrance. I ended up paying more than twice the expected amount because I didn't know to bring proof of my own insurance, so the only place that would rent to me charged a premium.

Rent a wreck!
Pros: Customer service and process for picking up the automobile was easy and hassle free.
Cons: The Hyundai Elantra I was given had scrapes, scratches and dents in over a dozen locations. The flat tire warning light was on when I picked up the car and I eventually had to stop and put air in all four tires in order to get the light to go out.
Pros: Rented minivan - this company had the cheapest rates by far. Was worried once I looked at the Yelp reviews, but everything went fine.
Cons: Pickup process was a bit slow.

bad pick-up process
Pros: Car was clean and got good gas mileage.
Cons: When I picked up the car, the person helping me was pretty incompetent. I had a pre-made reservation and it took 30 minutes for him to rent me the car. The "mileage in" in the receipt they emailed me was wrong (different from the "mileage in" on the paper receipt given to me when I rented the car). So it says I drove 600 miles more than I actually did. Probably not a huge deal since they don't charge for mileage.

Complete Bait and Switch--will never use them agai
Cons: I was charged nearly 125$ more than what appeared on my Kayak invoice, plus another 100$ for an EZ toll pass that it turns out I really didn't need. They should have told me that if I didn't rent the EZ toll pass, I would be charged 25$ each time I used the a tollroad--as I used the toll road only twice, I could have saved $50 by NOT having the pass!!

Hidden Charges with EZ Car
Pros: The car was brand new, only 100 miles on it!
Cons: The EZ desk is very hard to find at Logan - no signage. It is actually called Advantage. After I was there, the informed me that if I didn't have proof of insurance, I wouldn't have been able to take the car. There should have been notice about this. The add-ons were ridiculous - $28/day for an EZ pass? The wait at the desk was crazy.

Cons: Not for the first time, there never seem to be enough people behind the car rental counters at Logan airport in Boston - and not just at Avis but with other car rental companies there. That isn't true in other places (such as the Seattle or S.F. airports). Perhaps it is a problem to find employees - but Avis used to try harder to have efficient service...

Cons: avis is terrible. they were completely incompetent, couldnt even connect me to the local office where i would have picked up, and tried to charge me $500 more to change a minor error in drop off. I thought kayak would default my drip off to the airport location but did not. when I went to fix it they wanted to gauge the price. I ultimately cancelled and took alamo instead.
Pros: The check in was easy, but they had no idea of my Emerald Club Membership
Cons: The Rental Car Center is a bus ride away with no luggage carts. Dumb Idea.
The Toyota Camray is a POS.
The Garmn GPS couldn't even locate my hotel: The Embassy Suites in Waltham, which has stood there for over 15 years.
