Awful, awful experience—greedy, deceitful company
Pros: There was nothing positive about this experience.
Cons: The Payless clerk tried to charge me $100 more than the agreed price by adding to the contract without my approval the prepaid gas option and roadside assistance. I had to argue to get her to remove the gas option, and when I told her I already have roadside assistance through AAA, she told me that Payless cars don't have spare tires so AAA can't help me if I get a flat. When asked why their cars don't have a spare, she explained that no new car comes with a spare. It wasn't until I took her out to the car and showed her the spare tire that she agreed to remove the roadside assistance charge. By then I'd had enough and declined the rental altogether.

Payless = Get Less
Pros: Price was fairly attractive but don't be fooled.
Cons: It's the one rental agency relegated to an outdoor shack at the Sacramento airport. The line was so long it was out the door - only one poor agent to handle the crowd.
We reserved an SUV but when we arrived no SUV was available. Her recompense was to take five dollars off the daily rate. Wow.
We ended up driving back two days later to return the car and go with another company.
Complaints to the counter were refered to corporate. When we called corporate they said we had to deal with the counter.

Pros: The car wasn't very clean upon pick up, but we were in a rush to leave. The driver side didn't have a mat under the feet, which made cleaning difficult for customer. The USB didn't function with ipod and other media products. Overall I've rented for the same price with a better value. Paylesscar.com can do more to provide customers with a clean car.

Adds Insurance and Roadside without consent to ear
Pros: Car was somewhat affordable but could have been cleaned up better.
Cons: The lady whom was helping us made a big deal at the fact that I called her out on adding roadside assistance and insurance without my permission. When I said my insurance covers me and that I already checked, she proceeded to tell me that it doesn't matter and that it's a law to have insurance on the car. First off, in CA, you as a car rental company are required to have liability on the car. Stop trying to cheat people and make extra money off them. Times are rough and its people like you and your company that make it harder to survive. Be honest, help people and make money at the same time. It will get you much farther and keep you in business. Also, during pick up and drop off other customers were arguing about mis quotes and add ons without their consent. I won't rent from Payless again, it's not worth the headache.

Cons: There were three people in front of me, and after 15 minutes there still was one person before me. I left to another car rental and when I drove away I saw the person that was in front of me finally getting their car. Unacceptable.

Very efficient and smooth service
Pros: Although the estimate on kayak.com was $15 lower than what I ended up paying, I paid exactly what Advantage estimated when I picked up the car. There was no waiting at all on either end of my one-way rental. I walked right up to the counter. The price was about average among all the car companies I was given a quote for. But I really appreciated that there was no drop-charge (Enterprise charges one) for my one-way rental.
Cons: On drop-off, you cannot change the credit card or method of payment from the one you establish when you pick up the car.

Cons: The car had 15-20 dents and smelled like smoke. The lady who helped us said she did not have any other cars that didn't smell like smoke or have a bunch of dents and dings.
Cons: They said my type of car was not ready and I'd have to wait. There was another upgraded car available immediately for an additional $11.00 per day. It would have a GPS included. I didn't want to wait and so I agreed to take it. Then the GPS didn't work. When I turned it in they just would give me a coupon for $20 discount off my next Budget rental.

Cons: They weren't staffing their Budget desk and lady in a Budget shirt said she didn't work the desk and to just wait. I waited until another agency came over and told me to go to the Avis desk. So I got my Budget car from the Avis desk. And the folks at that desk and the Budget employee didn't help me find this out. I won't rent from them again.
Their employee kept trying to up sell me on everything and it was really annoying because they wouldn't help with my simple questions. So the culture of the company is totally wack too.

Pros: The service was great and the price was very good as well
Cons: The clerk that gave us the car was very rude and tried to sell us a VERY expensive insurance with them. He actually seemed to be interrogating us as in a trial as to who and why we had purchase insurance through Allianz and not them. Stating that he did not even now what company Allianz was, come on! Then he continued to say that if we had an accident they would come after me for sure and so on and on.
Also, we had to change drop off location because of a last minute flight change. We called 4 times and each call took us over 20 minutes to go over basics, for example, how much will it cost to drop off in in San Franciscoo instead of Sacramento. Answers went from $50 to $35 depending on the clerk. Last day we called in again and lady said it was $35.
When we came into the San Francisco office, they had no clue about this, clerk said he would send a note to Sacramento office and he could not close the contract himself. I was flying out of the country, did not want to leave an open contract with CC info on it. Inmediately I had a bad feeling about this.
I was completely right, Sacramento office did not even close my contract days later, I had to call and spend yet again another 30 minutes on the phone only for them to tell me they would charge me $75 as that is the fee and that they did not see any notes that said $35.
In the end, the clerk was able to charge me $50, yet again, we were told $35. This type of situations only made us think how unprofessional they are.
Bottomline I would never rent again with Enterprise.

Cons: My flight was delayed because of a mechanical issue for over an hour in San Francisco which would have made it extremely hard to get to the store in Sacramento by closing time and there was no local phone number to call them to see if they would wait for me. I called Hertz direct but could not get anybody on the phone that I could understand (very poor broken English) so I ended up renting from the airport Hertz which cost me an extra $300.00. Extremely unhappy!!

Cons: I made a mistake when making my booking, reserving a car from the downtown office instead of the airport where I was landing. Staff changed my booking to accommodate the change. I was asked to sign the agreement and noticed the cost to now be $100-00 more! While I 'get' that the charges can change, this was not pointed out to me and was explained after the fact when I noticed the increased fee by reading through the document. I would have appreciated a little more transparency in this process.

Pick up was great but drop off was a nightmare fro
Pros: The pick up office was a small one person but I came at the right time and was taken care of very well. I was offered an upgrade for a few dollars more and I took that and usually don't take it but purchased the extra insurance because I was going to SF after all. The drive was very good and the only thing that would have been even better was a few gas station locations before I got to the airport.
Cons: I should have taken the offer to have my sister take me the 100 miles to the SF airport from my Sacramento residence. First the rental was 3 times the amount of a daily rental and I should have stopped there and KAYACK nor any other online deals were any better or discounted from what I could have got from just going to the vendor's site. I got to the airport rental drop off that was hard to find and confusing at SF and then I was treated like a bum off the street. They did not let me drop the car off near the tram door so with 4 luggage I had to go buy a cart for $5 to get my luggage and transport it to the tram door. One more thing after another I had to do with Avis
