The hotel is located just in front of Marvao's fortifications. Very nice breakfast. The friendly owners operate a very useful bar serving even full meals, There's a terrace overlooking the countryside. Furniture is rather slap-dash (bare light bulbs), space tight.
The location ! It's inside the city of Marvao and you feel as on the top of the world :-) ! The room was big and charming. It's very quite also.
One of the most beautiful locations in the world and very reasonable price, relaxed, kind and helpful staff. A very good experience. The hotel could do something to improve breakfast. I notice other reviewers have said the same.
Short walk to the cathedral .Clean and comfortable. Secure car parking available. A bit noisy from traffic and the outlook on to delelict building was not attractive.
on top of Marvao! the shower is very small
1) Fantastic location. 2) The hotel building was quaint and charmingly simple. It is, and felt like, a family home. 3) Friendly atmosphere The lounge area could be a little more organised.
The place was very hospitable and the location was stunning. Helpful staff with advice about exploring and eating in the odd, unique village where Dom Dinis is situated. Easy parking at the hotel. No grocery shops available in the village. But that wasn't the hotels fault :-)
Fantastic location Breakfast was served a bit late
The location is stunning
Clean swimming pool . Poor menu and food !! Inpersonnal hotel without a soul . No internet in rooms .Isolated location .
The Hotel was vastly overpriced, particularly the resteraunt, Dinner for two, tasteless, extremely poor quality over 90 Euros. A single cup of capucinno 10 Euros. The staff were very courteous and helpful. The ambience was extremely restful however the rooms were shabby but the bed very comfortable.
Quiteness and confort
A very calm, peaceful place, in a old monastery. The arrival was magic, the bedrooms are excellent and it was a very good to rest and gain energy.
Beautiful old monastry. Friendly staff, nice room (in old part of the monastry, with old details). Calm and relaxing atmosphere. Nice pool with chairs and towels. We had a good meal in the restaurant (special offer) for only 20 Euro's each.
Position. Staff not very friendly.
The position was fantastic in this wonderful village. Reception was very helpful and heaps of parking right outside. Breakfast was good and we were so glad we booked and came here even tho it was a twisting mountain road ujp to the village.
the hotel is peaceful and quiet. try to get a room with view into the beautiful Alentejo landscape. there are also 2 rooms with little roof-terraces. these might also be nice to have.
Good restaurant serving regional dishes.
People were always extremely friendly, helpeful, the food was excelent and the hotel was very quiet, which is what I was looking for.
Hotel was charming with fantastic views. Staff were very helpful. We asked where we could find petrol in very broken Portuguese and the manager told us, but as he was worried we might not have understood, found someone who came and explained it to us in perfect English during dinner. It would be nice to have an electric kettle in the room for making coffee/tea. The restaurant was good but not as fantastic as others we found in the area (but in Marvao itself was the only one that seemed to be open in the evening in January). Breakfasts were very good, except for the very artificial orange juice, yuck.
We were made to feel very welcome by the staff, who were efficient without being intrusive. We particularly liked the way in which the rooms were decorated and furnished and thought that the restaurant food was exellent. Our five year old grandson thoroughly enjoyed his stay.. While we enjoyed good service we felt that our waitress in the restaurant stood too close to our table (we were the only diners that night) to the extent that we felt slightly intimidated. She was though exceedingly friendly and helpful and also spoke English.
situation and fantastic view from room - the one in the web site information could not open the drawers in wardrobe! a small niggle
Perfectly clean and wonderful. Facility is nice. Nothing.
Excellent facilities for a small country inn - evn monogrammed towel and pillows!. Located inside the walls of this beautiful fortified town it has air-con and wi-fi in the rooms. Restaurant is good too. TV channels are a bit fuzzy
Good location and view. Walking distance to everything at the village. A nice park side by side. Air conditioning at the room working beautifully in those hot days. During my stay (2 rooms/7 days, several meals) credit/debit cards were disallowed, which implied paying everything with cash.
Beautiful town with mediveal are and castle Very basic breakfast - well below usual Portugal expreience. Restaurant closed except on Sat but reception did recommend good local alternative.
the location and the pool
Village view form the room and from the restaurant, and the simpaty from all the staff. The smell in the hallway leading to the room.
The hotel was actually pretty comfortable, with good rooms and facilities. It has a swimming pool and is very well located in the center of Castelo de Vide. The price of the rooms is very pleasant.
The location was very central for me. The hotel is comfortable and clean.
Great value for money. Nice room and pleasant staff. Very nice breakfast. The floor on the bathroom is a bit used, no biggie, though.
The location was good and the staff was very helpful.
specious and quite rooms.good location.
The hotel staff were really great. No.
I did like the attention of staff and the quality of meals.
Clean hotel, friendly front desk staff - very helpful and they let our dog stay without a problem. The food was the worst we had eaten in years but the friendliness of the staff meant we didn't complain.
The chance to visit historic Portugal and taste the local food and wines. We had business in Ponte de Sor and this was an ideal location. They were/are having problems with credit cards and we needed to withdraw cash from a machine which had a limit and this required me to make 2 trips to the machine.
Everything was perfect, We advise you to go there nothing to write
Lovely hotel in a beautiful location. Breakfast included and good. Rooms clean, spacious and nicely decorated. Dinner (extra) superb.
food and staff parking
I suggest improve the breakfast.
A really charmy and cozy hotel very well preserved and maintaining the original architectural lines, making it a good place for a coupple of days in the countryside, to recharge batteries and enjoy the peaceful sun. The staff were very professional and thoughtful with us during all stay.
The confort was good, the breakfast it was very good too, but small in diet options ( soja milk for vegetarian for example). It's is a very good place to relax! For a 4 star hotel the swiming pool was not in very good conditions of cleanliness, and the frigobar in the room was empty, it is not normal...
The swimming pool was nice, and the hotel is beautiful
I like the location, ambiance and unique citadel atmosphere. The views are awesome. The beds are not so good. The restaurant is much too expensive and not good value.
The staff were helpful and friendly. The bedroom was comfortable. The location is absolutely charming. The bathroom was adequate but 'tired' - chipped tiles, broken fixtures. Not what you would expect in this standard of hotel in this price range. Apart from breakfast, the food was over-priced and lacked any distinction - very disappointing.
The Pousada is in the middle of an hsitoric village with suberb views and even though is an old building the services and facilities were quite good.
Very nice rooms. View from the restorant is exelant, but food is not very fresh. Bread was old and cheese.
Although experiencing soaring temperatures of >35C, the arconditioning in the rooms did not work. Unfortunately hotel staff was not cooperative to seek for alternatives nor willing to offer any (financial) compensation/discount for the inconvenience. Very limited parking. Conclusion: very poor value for money and not even close to a four star hotel. Not worth to call it a 'pousada' .
location booking.com screwed me. The confirmation on my reservation was for 80 euros for two people. I was charged 95 euros per room. This is unfair and booking.com sucks. I will tell all my friends to NEVER use booking.com. You are a bad business and unfair to customers.
Panorama Complicated access
Lovely location and views Plumbing system very noisy from time to time !
The staff, the location and a very clean, beautiful room. The breakfast is at the level of a 5 star hotel. None. It is a good clean family hotel with excellent hospitality with at a very reasonable price.
Wonderful setting, room and food
restraunt unavailable for evening meals
Free parking, nice swimming pool, breakfast included.
Comfortable; excellent private balconies, lovely views of the mountains, pleasant friendly staff, good breakfast; did not feel rushed or hurried at breakfast or on checking out. Stayed twice on this trip. Thank you. It would be good if some food were available in the evening, even if it was only a light snack - local restaurants are good, but sometimes you are too tired to go out.
Staff were very friendly. I asked many questions and the staff resolved it immediately. Rooms were clean. Value for money although I did get a special rate of £35ppn. The ladder by the pool needs serious attention. I wont be surprised that it will come completely loose and cause serious injury to someone.
position, good breakfast, room cleanliness of bed lining to be improved
Excelent. Will be back for sure. Sometimes seemed that they didn't had enough staff, but nothing too important.
wonderful hotel with inexpensive price. In front of the hotel, there are a public pool. You can enjoy swimming too.
Very quiet and calm environment The hotel needs serious repairs and buffet breakfast is poor
The pastoral setting and views from the hotel were very nice and scenic. The breakfast was well above average with very nice selection of local cusine. Manuel the proprietor was very nice and helpful and suggested a good place to eat dinner in the local town. No we were very pleased with our stay although it was only for one night.
very good breakfast the pool and garden could be in better conditionons, very small bed, bathroom very simple
Beautiful countryside. Staff were excellent, charming with children and breakfast stunning (amazing selection of local cheeses, homemade jams etc). Evening meal well worth having. Had outdoor pool to ourselves. Children play area clean and well maintained. Overall, a quiet place trying to make a name slightly off the tourist route but central for exploring the Alentejo by car.
The hotel is an old building in good condition, with a great view over the cork trees. in the facilities text of the hotel is mentioned they have a restaurant. indeed they have but it is not in function, a pity because we searched for a hotel with restaurant.
Fabulous hotel: friendly, courteous staff, beatifully appointed rooms, very very clean. Air-conditioning, great pool. Overall though, the staff, particularly the manageress, were excellent and that alone was invaluable.
nice swiming pool with salty water. Very good breakfast. In a very calm and pleasant location.
The hotel is located in a small village and has undergone major refurbishment two years ago and it did look fresh and modern. There are 12 rooms in total and most if not all have a balcony with a parasol, a table and chairs. An examples of old kitchen items like scales, dough mixing machines or till machine were used to decorate the breakfast room/bar. Spelling mistakes in English translation of the food menu and other hotel literature which could easily be improved.
Beautiful little hotel. Everything in apple pie order. Overlooking an industrial building. Restaurant is closed on Sunday and Monday
The hotel in general, the geographic location, the quality of the food products. For a "green" hotel it could have a separate smoking room, water economizer adaptors in the toilets, and stimulate plastic/paper/glass separation in the rooms (for the mini-bar bottles, for example). For the days when the hotel has more costumers there should be two people attending at breakfast, as it is difficult for only one person to do all the replacements and refills and attend the special orders in a timely fashion.
Very pleasant experience. No in room facility for making hot drinks.
Stylish, clean and comfortable, an unexpected find in this area of the country.
Wonderful stay, definitely recommendable. Superb facilities, brand new, very confortable rooms, decorated with good taste. Extraordinary friendly service - the owner herself gave us excellent tips to explore the region.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the beds were super comfortable.
Comfortable and quiet room; warm and friendly staff from front desk through dining and check out; services were of a high standard. Easy to deaal with and very informative. Quality of the fittings etc was wonderful.
This is a magnificant place. Donna Fatima will try to do everything to offer you a wonderfull stay. Good breakfast which can be eaten outside. The interiour was wonderfully renovated and brings you really back in time.
The staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful and made my stay a real pleasure. They prepared a special (delicious) meal for me and accommodated all my requests. My room was comfortable and peaceful. No
The well-kept garden and pool area, comfortable lounges, big rooms and tranquility.
Charming. Convenient for me. Bathroom ventilation needs improvement. Need better front door access (key) during late hours.
Wonderful lady (we think she is called Fatima) who looked after everything for us from check-in to the fantastic meal...despite a language barrier! All with a huge smile. Our suite was excellent, with view over the old convent....and the pool setting is marvelous too. Oh, and I should mention the great breakfast. Would love to return.
Nice place, friendly owners, everything O.K.
100% perfect! A truly superb place at which to stay.Looking forward to a return visit in the spring time to enjoy the area in better weather conditions.
Welcoming very nice. Hotelkeeper made food in the evening although it was not a rule. Also someone came to help us outside because we could not find the hotel in the dark. So service all ok for the 1st part. We did not like the acts of the waitress in the morning with breakfast. She grumbled that we were late. She asked for the money when we left and she had no change money so we had to give her a tip. The paying took place ont the breakfast table, not in an office, also we got no bill. Also both did not speak a word english
It was vey quiet and lovely views. We had to share a bathroom. There is place inside the room for a private shower.
The best hotel I've ever stayed in Portugal! I needed flowers at 08.00 on Monday morning and they provided me a gorgeous one within the hour Everything about this hotel is perfect: location, room design, staff, breakfast. I'll be definitely be back to this hotel. I'd like to thank the hotel management and staff for the great job they are doing. That was a very pleasant stay indeed! Thank you very much and keep up the good work!
We liked everything, we had been upgraded to a lovely room as it was our honeymoon, nicely furnished and clean room with a fantastic view All the staff were friendly, helpful and professional. The buffet breakfast was excellent. We had a wonderful stay.
The decotation is wonderfull, is like to stay at home. Very clean, the breakfast is realy very good. The staf very friendly. I do not mind to stay there again. Localisation in the center, and if we want can go to the pool. Could have MB / Visa, but no problem I pay in money.
Wonderful hotel. We liked everything, all the Staff were effiicient and pleased to look after us. The buffet breakfast was excellent and also the location. Beautiful room: Spacious, comfortable, well-appointed room. Excellent value for money. We had a wonderful stay, It certainly deserves its excellent reputation, We will definitely stay here again. Would gladly recommend it to anyone.
The real sense of Portuguese hospitality, dedicated to the wishes and needs of the guest in a marvelous building, wonderful decorated and furnished. Cannot be better. And the village is very attractive as well.
This hotel is situated in a prime location for exploring the city…it was so easy to get around and we were close to everything! The staff was very friendly and the breakfast that was included in the room rate was better than most others I have ecountered while traveling. When I go back to Castelo de Vide (and believe me, I mean “when” not “if”) the first hotel I will try to book will be the Casa Amarela. The room was very clean & comfortable & I fully intend to return for another stay.
The perfection really exists!!! The staff was extremely pleasant, competent and helpful,They were always ready to answer any questions we had. The location was wonderful, in the city center. The quality of the breakfast was fantastic (the best orange juice we have ever had) Everything was to our liking and I would stay there again and again. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. it was everything we hoped for and the hotel is beautiful and the atmosphere was very relaxed.
Gorgeous hotel with impeccable quality of the furnishings The church bell, which is about 150 meters away, went off sometimes every 15 minutes at least until 4am on the Sunday night I stayed there. It was IMPOSSIBlE to sleep even with the windows closed. Beware. Quite a shame, it's an adorable town.
The hotel is perfect, It is a charming and relaxing hotel, the service was excellent, the staff is friendly and helpful, great location for walking through historical part of the city, excellent breakfast buffet, the room was superb with very comfortable beds, very soft pillows, could have stayed forever. We recomend it.
