7.5 Good
Pros: This is a cute and cosy little property in the hills. Lovely colours and furnishings. The owners are very friendly and attentive. The approach to the building is a little interesting, but don't let that put you off.
Cons: Windows were small and no views, but room was cooler than I thought it would be. Barking dogs in the hills can be a bit of a nuisance.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice little hotel with a nice garden and very friendly hosts. Nice clean room and a very good breakfast. Also had dinner at the hotel one night which was really good. Easy parking on the street. If I ever were to visit this area again I would most likely stay here again.
Cons: I traveled with a dog and the hotel is located in the middle of a residential area where everyone seems to have at least one dog so my dog was a bit stressed about all the barking dogs when taking walks.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: - The owners are friendly and very helpful, particularly with knowledge of the local area. - Nice buffet breakfast (cereals, fruits, cured meats and cakes). - Big, quiet garden with plenty of bouncy green grass. - Relatively short walk down the hill to the beach (~10mins) or to the town (~15-20mins).
7.5 Good
Pros: Really nice hosts Excellent breakfast Lovely cats
Cons: Rooms are nicely decorated, bathrooms are in need of modernization. No restaurants close by (nearest restaurants are +/- 15 minutes walk)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a superb family property which is run to an exceptional standard. It’s clean, comfortable and very homely. The owners are always on hand, nothing was too much trouble. The evening meal they prepared was beyond our expectations. I urge anyone who stays at the property to sample their cooking.
Cons: Absolutely nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: They have a big garden where you can relax. The room and the breakfast were excellent! I totally recommend it
6.3 Good
Pros: Part 1: This is a beautiful guesthouse but not suitable for pilgrims walking the variant espiritual to Santiago. 1/it is 500 metres off the Camino, up a hill 2/ it's a little difficult to find. In fact, I found the entrance by accident! 2/ There is no sello to stamp your credential 3/ There was no one to answer the bell or open the door at 14:30. I entered the property myself through 2 unlocked doors and had to wait (only about 10 minutes) for someone to arrive. 4/ Breakfast is only available from 9am-11am. 5/ Like many houses in Spain, the acoustics of the house magnify every sound so even small noises become loud enough to wake you. This phenomenon is quite noticeable here. However, these are only minor inconveniences and not a big problem with such a comfortable guesthouse. But something very strange happened there this morning. Long and kind of unbelievable story but... Breakfast IS INCLUDED in the room rate and at check-in, the woman offered to leave the breakfast for me in the dining area because I had to leave at 8am. It is quite usual for places to leave the breakfast out the night before so guests who leave early can serve themselves. I thanked her and paid my big. So at 7:30am this morning, I came downstairs, expecting some bread so I could make a tostada con mermelada, and maybe some juice. But instead of breakfast I found a bag (with a nice post-it note saying PICNIC). It was 2 meat sandwiches (don't eat meat), some fruit and cake but nothing to drink. A miscommunication, because I never ordered a picnic, but no matter. I took the fruit and cake but left the sandwiches because I don't waste food. Then I found a cup and turned on the coffee-maker. Big mistake! A man appeared and berated me in Spanish for making noise with the coffee maker at 7:30am. I didn't know who this man was, the manager? Another guest? I apologised and went to my room.
Cons: Part Two...the crazy long story continues... About an hour later, just before 9am, I was walking past the gas station on the way out of town when a man got out of a car and approached me. I didn't immediately recognise that it was the man from the guesthouse. When you are a woman walking the Camino alone, sometimes men will approach you on road and try to stop you so you have to be careful. I didn't feel too unsafe though, because there were other people and cars around. Anyway, I recognised him and was confused. What now?... Well, apparently he had driven there and waited for me to pass by so he could confront me again! This time he berated me for my 'angry' note about the sandwiches. I told him that I am a peregrina that has been walking the Camino for 5 weeks. With 2 days left before reaching Santiago, anger is definitely not one of the many emotions I am feeling today. He had misinterpreted my short note. He berated me again for using the coffee machine at 7:30am. Please note that this noise lasted for less than 2 minutes. He said it disturbs the peace and quiet of the other guests. I told him that I understand the acoustics of the building magnifies every sound. I also mentioned that last night after midnight, some other occupants disturbed the peace and quiet of the house by talking, watching TV, walking around and taking a long shower. He said that's not his problem and I agreed but I unlike him, I did not approach them and confront them about the noise they made. I just waited 40-60 minutes for the noise to stop. He then told me I was 'ungrateful' because I didn't take the picnic. He said that it is not something they usually do for people. There is however a poster in reception advertising their 'picnic' for €7. I told him I definitely didn't order a picnic and that I was not angry. I understand now that he was angry that I rejected something he usually charges for. I explained that I am not ungrateful.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Convenient location and a good atmosphere.

6.3 Good
Pros: I knew all the area already cause my parents live there! It is a little place with few rooms, the recepción is the bar downstairs, clean room, our bathroom came with jacuzzi ,that for us, was the only good thing the two nights we stayed
Cons: If you want to sleep at nighttime, don’t go during summer time, there is a bar downstairs and our room was right above, I did not sleep for the two nights, first night everybody left the place at 2am and second night it was 3am and people still talking loudly!

Pros: Extreamly clean and modern Superb value Very comprehensive breakfast buffet.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were excelent and kept very clean. The beds are comfortable and there was lots of cuboard/shelf space to unpack the suitcase, the bathroom was good with a bath and shower overhead, again very clean. The desk staff were very welcoming and helpfull. The weather was not the best but the swimming pool looked very nice, and the water well treated and clean.
Cons: The only negative for myself was the location, as I expected to be on the beach and this hotel is one street back from the beach, also it is a reasonable walk into Vilagarcia. For anyone travelling on business or wanting a family holiday to enjoy the beach and just relax it is good, for myself I wanted to use the railway station (1 mile away) and the towns resaurants and bars.

Pros: The property was in good proximity to many restaurants and shops. The hotel staff are wonderful and very helpful. The cleaners do a superb job every day cleaning the rooms. The fresh orange juice at breakfast is just beautiful. I would stay here again.
Cons: I like everything about the property. I would say the only thing it is missing is a kettle in the bedroom to make a cup of tea when you come back from a long day but that is just a preference as I love tea. It’s a great hotel with great staff!

Hotel Alpina - Vilanova de Arousa - Building
9
9.0 Excellent (120 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Vilanova de Arousa, Hotel Alpina is in the suburbs, within a 5-minute drive of Ría de Arousa and Valle-Inclan House Museum. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and an elevator (lift).
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, modern hotel. The entire hotel is wheelchair accessible, including from the car parking. Although not a problem for us, the shower in our room wasn't really wheelchair accessible (the bathroom was, but not the shower itself). If that's important to you then do inquire before booking as they likely do have rooms that meet your need. Very friendly helpful hosts although they have very little English so helps if you speak a little Spanish. Excellent continental type breakfast buffet with cereals, fruit, several types of bread, cheese, ham, yogurt, small cakes & pastries and good coffee. Quite a good choice given it's only a small hotel. A nice bar (well used by locals) just a few minutes walk down the road that does tapas type food - and gives a free one with every drink. Although our room faced the road, we didn't really hear any road noise. The property has 10 or so marked out parking places. Air-Con in the room - which you can control by a remote control. Rural location rather than in a town, but only a few minutes drive from the nearest beach with many others 10-15 minutes away. For us it ticked all the boxes.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel had a bathtub with a jacuzzi which was perfect after a whole day of walking. The manager Señora Josefa was simply an angel! She went out of her way to bring us to the port at 6am to catch the boat to Pontecesures. She drove us with her own car at no extra charge and she woke up at an even earlier hour to prepare our breakfast. Based on what little time she had to prepare, I assume the full breakfast would have been wonderful because the “little” snack that she laid out for us was already more than what I expected. Hotel Alpina is a great oasis after a grueling day of walking the Camino!
Cons: The duvet was a little worn and the heater was not very hot despite adjusting it. All these comments are meant to improve on some trivial things because Señora Josefa’s hospitality and kindness is too priceless to ignore. I would recommend Hotel Alpina!

9.3 Excellent
Cons: Conditioner doesn't blow cold air.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Room was allright. Although located near the highway - not so much travel noise.
Cons: I was surprised to see that for the price I paid at booking, I would have got a hydromassage suite if I paid at the location. That was a dissapointment. Furthermore I think it’s an excellent place for people to commit adultery (so prepare for this if you decide to go, you might have loud neighbors) not so much to stay for a holliday.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Our stay at Hotel Castelao was great. The location--right in the middle of Vilagarcia--was perfect. Shopping and restaurants are less than 5 minutes away by foot and the beach is easy to reach in a short walk. The daily breakfast was good and offered plenty to fill you up. The staff was always friendly. We don't speak much Spanish, but fortunately we were able to communicate in English with most of the reception staff. It is good to know a little Spanish, however.
Cons: The furnishings are a bit outdated, but nevertheless, the beds were comfortable and clean.

Pros: Extremely good staff so friendly.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was clean and the staff provided us with a fan for our room. The hotel was quiet and we slept well.
Cons: No WiFi in rooms, so you need to go downstairs to the lobby for this. Some of the staff were organized, but others were not sure about whether we had paid for meals, when we were checking out, etc. This led to some confusion, but it was sorted out in the end.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location. Very clean. Comfortable.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very convenient position next to many bars and restaurants but with room window luckily facing a quieter street. Also a few minutes walk to the port/sea. The room maybe a bit dated in terms of decor but it was spotlessly clean, had nice wooden floor, good and comfortable bed. I only spent a night there and had a nice welcome at check in. I think the restaurant downstairs would be worth trying.
9.3 Excellent
Cons: Noisy as it is right above a bar on one of the main streets in the city center. GREAT location but you pay with it by not being able to sleep till very late.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We found vilagarcia to be a Charming small town with perhaps the best Mercado we've ever seen in Spain on the Tuesday morning that we left. Our only regrets are those associated with the thieves who run the restaurant called a pallota down the road!
Cons: While not directly related to the property, having attended lunch at the nearby restaurant called a palota we found the establishment to be an unmitigated rip off and we would advise any Travellers to avoid the place.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were a reasonable size, very clean and what I expected for the low price. There was nothing special about the hostel, it was a clean, reasonably sized room at a fair price.
Cons: The maintainance could be better, small things like the shower head wall holder broken, toilet seal loose. Small things that could be fixed very easily. Booked a double bed and given two twins which they said was a double when pushed together ? No other room available at the time of check in so had to accept it.
