When you a stay at Xalli Beach Hotel in Ometepe Island, you'll be on a lake, just steps from Lake Nicaragua and Santo Domingo Beach. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Beautiful place to stay, right on the lake with hammocks and shady trees. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The bed was super comfy and AC worked perfect. Hot water, good water pressure, toiletries. Fantastic place. Noldan was super helpful and friendly. Restaurants only a short drive down the street - recommend bringing your own car for the convenience but taxis can be arranged by the friendly staff if not.
Cons: It was perfect.
Pros: This is the third time staying here, to me its just great. Love, love this place, steps away from the beach and at nigh its a magical place, the sound of the water and the breeze of the beach are unique. The staff incredible, food really good and affordable.
Cons: Not all rooms have tv
Pros: The guy at reception paid extra attention to detail for us, like lighting a candle for our dinner table and putting music on for us. We were there on a quiet season so felt like it was all for us only. Also, the setting is beautiful, green and spacious and right on the beach.
Cons: The menu prices for food were quite expensive
Pros: The staff of the hotel was so nice, we felt at home here! They helped us arrange the ferry, they provided laundry service and arrange our day trip to the Madeiras volcano. The hotel is beautifully located next to the beach! We would warmly recommend this hotel to any couple travelling to the Ometepe Island.
Pros: The staff was great! Helped us a lot with our questions or they arranged transport for us! After ometepe we went back to Costa Rica and they even could arrange transport for us on the mainland. De food is great! Eat there it's awesome! Breakfast was also delicious! We rented a scooter for a day and it got delivered to the hotel and picked up. They also arrange kayak tours with a transfer but the taxi price was real high so we arranged it ourselfs at playa mango. Wich was great, cheap with transfer on motorcycle. We booked the cheapest room with a shared bathroom, we were in luck because the room we had to share the bathroom with wasn't used. If you are staying there and al the rooms are booked it will get crowed in the shared bathroom i guess. But thats is the choice when you book. If we ever visit ometepe again we will go back to xalli again.
Cons: There isn't anything close to it, so if you take the boat on foot like us you are stuck to the hotel for food etc. Saying that, that wasn't a bad thing because the food they serve is awesome! So we didn't mind eating there every evening!
Pros: I liked everything, specially the area that has to do with customer service, very professional and friendly at the same time...LOVE IT
Pros: The staff were so helpful and caring. The location is great for hiking. The food was great.
Located in Altagracia, Hospedaje Bananas provides free WiFi, and guests can enjoy a restaurant, a bar and a garden. Guests at the country house can enjoy a continental breakfast. Hospedaje Bananas offers a terrace. Both a bicycle rental service and a car rental service are available at the accommodation, while cycling can be enjoyed nearby.
Pros: Efraim, the owner, was extremely pleasant, chatty and helpful with information about the island and in booking trips for me. The food he provides is fine, with some excellent fish. Dinner is watched over by a cow! The setting is in a banana plantation and is peaceful, not far from a couple of beaches (though not the best ones). You could walk into for dinner but I ate at the Hospedaje. There are walks from the Hospedaje .
Cons: There is a kitchen for the use of guests; maybe it would be nice to have free coffee available.
Pros: Efraím is a total legend! He is a very honest and helpful guy wanting you to have the most fun at the cheapest price. We highly recommend just organising everything with him, from transport to motorbikes etc. We got bikes from other dodgy guys on the way in and regretted it as they were old, poor quality, and charged us extra, they tried to make us return the bikes at 5pm and not the full 48 hours. Efraím also got us the cheapest kayak tours and told us about other cool spots. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and it's in a really quiet chilled location with hammocks, rocking chairs, you can cook your own food, there's the resident cow princesa who is lovely and you can hand feed. The list goes on, just make sure you get a motorbike or quad for your stay on the island so you can get around to everywhere.
Cons: All good!
Pros: Our stay at Hospedaje Bananas was awesome! Efraim is a very nice host! He told us a lot of good spots to visit at the island! The rooms are super clean and comfortable! We ate everyday breakfast and dinner, Efraims wife is a very good cooker!
Pros: Beautiful and quiet place perfect for relax after a walking day on the island. Staff are very friendly they help us for any request nd need. Thank you so much Bananas!
Pros: Nice location in the middle of a banana plantation. Clean rooms. Decent facilities. Helpful owner; good food (food a bit pricier than the average on Ometepe though).
Cons: Although it's a really special and nice location, it was a bit far away from everything. Very warm rooms and quite a lot of bugs.
Pros: Efraim, the owner, was knowledgeable about most everything on all of Ometepe as he is also a registered guide..he could arrange activities, motors for rent delivered to the hostal, horses as well etc. Plus you could get some Really good restaurant quality food right at the hostal. Plus its secure and quiet. Finally the room was cleaned and the beds were made everyday
Pros: Really friendly staff, you could rent a scooter there and it was very quiet!
Cons: It was a little remote but so is pretty much everything on this island so it's fine :D
Pros: The hotel is in the middle of a banana-forest and really close to the lake. From the bus station it’s like a 20-30min walk to the hotel. It’s quiet and the beds are comfortable. They offer food for a really good price because the portion sizes are really big and it’s absolutely delicious!
Cons: The toilet has no door but only a curtain. There’s no kitchen, only a fridge.
Pros: Cool location, cozy common areas with rocking chairs and the cow as a neighbour, kitchen to cook or option to order food (great fish) and free bananas :) Big comfortable room
Located in Ometepe Island, Finca San Juan de la Isla is on a lake, a 1-minute drive from Lake Nicaragua and 6 minutes from Concepcion Volcano. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, multilingual staff, and laundry facilities. Guests may use a roundtrip airport shuttle for a surcharge, and free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: This was our favorite hotel we stayed in while in Nicaragua! We stayed in one of the beach-front cabins and I can't tell you how beautiful the view from our bed was. We awoke to the beach sunrise right in front of our noses :) The view was equally as incredible as the facility. We loved the cabins rustic feel and having a warm shower in Nicaragua was sure a treat! Not to mention, when you step out onto the beach, you get an amazing sunrise view and can see one of the volcanos in the distance. Love, love, love.
Cons: My only complaint would be the price of the drinks. Would recommend driving to the local town if you plan on having a few cocktails. Also, we experienced a TON of little gnat flies around the restaurant area. Not sure what could be done to control that but it was an issue. We had to hold our breath and run from building-to-building the one night, it was so severe.
Pros: Our waiter Juan was awesome! The place is beautiful there are monkeys everywhere so watch out
Cons: Problem with hot water, I had to take a shower with cold water
Pros: San Juan de Isla was our favorite place in all of Nicaragua. It is an absolutely magical place. We stayed in one of the bungalows on the beach. It was perfect. The AC worked great (important to us). The view was to die for. The service in the restaurant was amazing. The jungle animals were fascinating. We had a family of howler monkeys serenade us at dinner two nights. The whole family rented scooters and we rode all over the island. It was incredibly safe. The people were very friendly and helpful. The travel warnings are very misleading. We saw nothing even remotely unsafe. We loved it. We will be back soon!
Cons: Truthfully we loved everything about San Juan de Isla. The one thing I would say, for people who want to be in the heart of action, is that it is a couple of kilometers from the other tourist hotels. For us that was awesome. And you can easily walk to the main tourist area. But if you need nightlife, you will need a taxi or rent a scooter.
Pros: Very nice hotel next to the shore in Ometepe. Clean, comfortable. You can also experience some wildlife since it has a huge garden
Cons: Access to the hotel is a little bit difficult since the only road to the hotel is not paved and it is hard to drive especially at night.
Pros: Staff was awesome, location was perfect. Easily the best resort I stayed at in Nicaragua, 10/10 would recommend to a friend.
Pros: Staff was great, ambience and views were gorgeous
Cons: The hotel doesn’t have internet or tv in the rooms, there is nothing to do after dinner.
Pros: The finca is located on a nice stretch of beach facing away from volcano conception. The staff was nice and accomodating (we hired a driver for the day who took us to san ramon waterfalls, the petroglyphs, finca magdalena and el pital choco place). I would recommend bringing a driver’s license so you can self drive one of the hotels motobikes or quads. The hotel restaurant serves a all kinds of dishes so you could most likely find something for your taste. The hammocks and rocking chairs around the property invite to leisurley hang out either at the back of the property looking at the volcano or on the beach.
Cons: The rooms are dark and smell quite stuffy(but you will most likely not stay indoors for very long in that setting). Spiders, geckos, and other insects find their way easily into your room. The beach is very nice but there were a lot of sandflies around. The last day there was a huge amount of flies popping up (our room was filled with them and there are no moskito nets on the beds). Power outages at night, the ac and fan went of and it took some time for power to be restored so it got quite warm after a while. The Hotel is located far off from the main road, so unless you pay for a driver or have your own wheels you are stuck there. So plan ahead how you want to spend your time there. The Hotel offers a lot of information and services though!
Pros: This place is beautiful. Nice rooms, green garden, beach in front of the door. We were the only hotel guest's they still cleaned everything each morning. It is behind a banana plantation, so it is very quiet and not crowded at all. The dinner was fresh cooked and soo good. Breakfast was the typical nica food: rice and beans, egg, toast. That's the only point to say, that they could have made more out of it: some yoghurt, fresh fruit and it would have been perfect.
With a stay at La Sabana Cheap House in Ometepe Island, you'll be steps from Lake Nicaragua and a 2-minute drive from Altagracia Monoliths. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk and an elevator. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Close to the walking trail to the vulcano and a 15 minute walk into Altagracia. Very friendly staff and clean facilities
Pros: Good wifi, kitchen facilities, relaxing outside area with hammocks rocking chairs, peaceful, good food, very homely atmosphere that you don't find for that price outside of Asia. Owners were very friendly and generous, helped me get off the island during the troubles in Nicaragua. Hopefully everything gets better for the people.
Pros: For those who are seeking some peace and integration with very friendly locals. Living conditions are simple and modest. Room is with fan. Small kitchen and fridge available, You can order breakfast and buy water or beer on site - cheap . Trail on volcano starts next to object. Bike and scooter rent just inform host day before. Host is very helpful and told me a lot about Nicaragua, thanks :-)
Cons: You can hear very clearly your neighbours breathing.
Pros: unfortunately because of the problems in Nicaragua I was the only guest in the house ! Fruit trees on the property grow mangos and coconuts which are all free . The staff were very attentive . As it said on the title everything there is extremely cheap .
Cons: The house was near a main road which could sometimes wake me up
Pros: Host and his family are super nice and helpful. Kitchen is pretty decent (forty cordobas/day). Nice atmosphere and comfy hang out area. Water and beer are cheap. Clean basic rooms. Location is right at the trail for Concepcion and close to Altagracia for groceries, for everything else you’ll need a scooter.
Cons: No mosquito nets in the room.
Pros: Lovely little place which is closer to a homestay than a hostal. The extremely friendly hosts will make you feel welcome, provide you with useful information and encourage you to practice your Spanish. Located right next to the entrance of the Conception National Park, you can climb the volcano and rent a bike or scooter to explore the rest of the island. Make sure to try the lovely home-cooked meals and lounge in one of the rocking chairs in the garden at the end of the day. Overall an amazing stay and no negative points to mention.
Pros: The owners are really nice
Cons: A little in the middle of nowhere but I guess that’s also an attraction
Pros: La Sabana Cheap House was more of a homestay- which we loved. We really felt like we were in Nicaragua, after having been in San Juan del Sur which is really touristy, this felt like we were living like Nicaraguans do and getting to know the town and the island in a more natural way. The space was beautiful with gardens and lots of nice rocking chairs and sitting areas. We were the only people there, but if it was full there is enough space for everyone to still have their own space. We felt very welcome at La Sabana and the area was safe. Altagracia is an adorable town filled with wonderful people. It was easy to get to off of the chicken bus, the stop is right outside the door, and the entrance to climb Concepcion is right there (which is the main reason we came to Ometepe).
Cons: The bed was a bit soft and squishy so it was hard to sleep next to my wife, because every move either of us made, made the entire bed move. It was a comfortable bed, just hard to be in it with another person.
Pros: Reina the owner was very friendly and helpful to make my stay perfect. She helped me out with information and everything I needed for my trip on the island. The hostel has a very good location just next to the bus station and the entrance of volcano Concepcion. The room was perfect.
Cons: The use of the kitchen comes at an additional cost
When you stay at Inn Hospedaje BullShark in Ometepe Island, you'll be in the mountains, within a 5-minute drive of Ojo de Agua Park and Santo Domingo Beach. Featured amenities include a business center, dry cleaning/laundry services, and luggage storage. Guests may use a roundtrip airport shuttle for a surcharge, and free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Héctor and Tatiana were super helpful with everything. Tatiana even gave us a ride to the bus stop to get back. Although kitchen was not advertised, they let us use theirs. Rooms are spacious, outside areas are cute and confortable. You can rent scooters there, and they can organize for u visits to the volcano
Cons: Location is not close to main villages but with scooter is fine. Also dining options are limited because no grocery store close by and the one restaurant next door is really expensive for what you get.
Pros: Ojo de Agua is withing walking distance from this hostal that is why I picked it out among its competition
Cons: To leave so soon :)
Pros: Lovely & helpful hosts and wonderful location! The rooms are simple, in a beautiful garden and pretty neighborhood. Would recommend renting their scooter or motorcycle to get around, especially because there aren't many restaurants nearby. They also offer transfer to and from the ferry which is a good price compared with the city taxi we took.
Pros: Hector, Tatiana and the rest of the family are so welcoming, they really help you with everything you might need and more. The room was perfect, spacious, very clean. You are able to book activities through them, highly recommend the kayaking and also renting a scooter/motorbike. These guys will give you the best deal.
Cons: Nothing, everything was great. Would definitely visit again.
Pros: Very helpfull and welcoming stuff. They even make aditional free breakfast for our kids, give us fruits and cake. When we leave we had les than 15 minites to next bus and they drive us to buss stop, so we can get on that bus, not waiting another hour for other. Water pressure was very good. There is only cold water, but you realy dont need hot water here as cold water is warm and it is hot outside. In same complex is restaurant and small shop where you can get refreshing drinks and some snacks at good prices. I recomend to stay here and if I will need room in Ometepe I will stay here again.
Cons: We dont feel anything uncomfortable.
Pros: Clean and comfortable rooms. Awesome staff.
Pros: Bullshark is close to places of interest, it's located strategically to visit the whole island. Hector and Tatiana are very nice hosts. They helped me out with everything and rented me a scooter for a very good price. Next to the hostal you can find a small restaurant. I would definitely go back to Bullshark.
Pros: Locatie is oké. Ligt tussen alles in dus niet echt in de buurt van een stadje met bars/restaurants
Cons: Hector picked us (2 pers) up from te ferry. It costs $15, so a littlebit expesive. You can also take a collectivo for $5,- each. The room is clean. Enough space with two fans. But there is a smell. We think from the sink. It smells a littlebit dirty! It is also very hot, but you can’t open the door because of all the flies. Breakfast is good! We rent a ATV for two days ($50 for 1 day), but the battery died the first day in the evening. So we called Hector and he came with a “new” battery. But we didn’t trust it and went home, because it was dark and on the road (between the cities) there are not a lot of people who can help if you have a problem again. The next day we drive to the other side of the Island for kayaking. Hector told us “it is very dangerous to go by yourself”. But we are dutch so we are good swimmers and kayaking is not sooo dangerous right. So we want to go by ourself. On the road there was a guy, like a guide, who talked to us about kayaking and Hector. We had to follow him to Caiman Kayaking. It was possible to rent a double kayak for $30 included guide. But we didn’t want a guide and it was the same price! How is that possible?! The guys didn’t have an aswer. After the negotiation it was possible to rent only a kayak for $20 or included guide for $25. Hector didn’t tell anything about the guy on the road and the “kayak tour”. In the afternoon we drove for a while and then.... in the evening we had the same problem. The battery died again! So don’t rent a ATV here! The women from the hostel is very friendly and she makes good breakfast! Pancakes, omelette or typico with fresh juice or coffee. Location is good. Between the vulcano’s, but there is nothing to do. Only 1 small restaurant and supermarkt. Kitchen is clean and has everthing what you need.

Cons: If you are looking for a (luxury) hotel than this is not your place. If you want to stay at a real authentic place with a really nice family, you will love your stay here!
Pros: Nice quiet clean place to spend a night. Very good price for the room, as well as food and beverages. We ended up cancelling our reservation to head to a place with more of an active night life... the owner was very good about it! A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available on request), and free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The staff was very friendly and when I had an issue they were sure to try to do what they could to fix it.

Pros: Good breakfast. Geographic situation very good to visit both volcanos. 5 min from Ojo de Agua. Nice restaurant with plenty of space. Parking secure for car. Best hotel in town. Right in the center of town but not noisy. Staff very good and friendly. Commun area very clean. Good internet in the Jardin area.
Cons: The beds were awful, could not sleep well. very small tv in room. we paid 5$ more/night for air conditioning (not included in the price). Smoking is allowed inside restaurent and jardin.
Pros: Moisture on the walls, broken shower, no tv (even if it was announced), bad quality of food and beverages.
Cons: Food and beverage, timing (we planed a kayak tour and a waterfall tour, the breakfast was so late so we couldn’t have it, they start between 7:10 and 8:00)
Pros: The staff We're really nice. The place was very clean.
Cons: Dinner was a bit too salty.
Pros: Breakfast was good. Staff were extremely helpful and even gave us a lift to Moyogalpa (because the manager’s husband was going). This saved lots of time on the bus and/or a lot of money on a taxi and was a really kind gesture.
Cons: Did not do lunch or dinner which was would have been nice for a night (not a huge range of options in Alta Gracia and we were there for almost a week).
Pros: Located in the middle of the small town, right on the bus route, breakfast is simple and convenient and staff is very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Bed is very uncomfortable, lots of noises, no hot water, air conditioning costs $35 extra per night, lighting is very bad especially in the bathroom and WiFi signal is terrible.
Pros: Super Cute, clean. Lovely landscaping- decent breakfast. Friendly staff, and helpful, though little English. Altagracias is also a lovely little town
Cons: Hot! Can in room too high to cool bed. AC an extra $35 or so per night. If you don’t use AC, unplug it - the dratted light flashes bright all night

Cons: You get the feeling that the room is still being renovated. There was no water running in the bathroom but the owner was very helpful and found us another accommodation.

Cons: The room could have been a little cleaner. Lots of bugs and strange smell from the air conditioner.

Pros: Friendly Nica-family in a calm and easy place! I recommend! It's calm, a hostal in an typial nicaraguan family. Always open to give you the best recomendations and willing to make you feel comfortable. I loved it! They organized us even our hiking guide for the vulcano - he was lovely. :) The breakfast was great and typical, which I love. They have a laundry-service, but allowed me to wash it by myself with my hands and didn't even seemed annoyed.
Cons: The first room they wanted to give us, smelled, though I asked for another one. They directly changed us to the top!
Pros: The staff is very friendly and helpful. They even made me breakfast at five o'clock in the morning, when I climbed on the volcan. The room was big, nice seating area outside

Pros: Nice location on the beach. Convenient breakfast option available at the location.

Pros: The room and bathroom were big. The location in Santa Domingo is central and right on the water.
Cons: There was no vibe. It was really just a place to sleep. The on-site restaurant seemed expensive, but you have many other options right next door, a cheap comedor on one side and a great restaurant on the other.
Pros: Wonderful location right on the lake with beautiful breezes. Restaurant right next door. Room was comfortable with a view out to the water. Secure parking for our motorbike. Excellent breakfast. Great seating area looking out to lake.
Cons: Wifi was only good in reception. Needs walkway to restaurant next door.
