Surprisingly, the windows provided excellence sound-proofing from the very busy streets right outside. At first I was skeptical about the noise level but with the window shut it was extremely quiet. The location is also good, being very close to the tram to get to the city center, and it is also close to the river as well as some restaurants, bars and groceries. Parking is pretty easy and also cheap - although not directly connected to the hotel.
No fault of the hotel but we arrived when the main street outside was under massive reconstruction with both sidewalks and the road. This made access quite difficult plus the noise was monumental (although the windows did a good job of drowning that out. Relative to the hotel, it was certainly on the faded side of royalty. The room was very spartan and there were no amenities: fridge, microwave, coffee/tea making etc. For the money I would have expected at least some of that.
As expected this is an old hotel in a fairly good position for exploring the city. The staff were helpful and keen to sort out the problems we faced! The room was clean and bright with a satisfactory bed and decent WiFi, although - being old - a bit cramped, lacking in electric sockets and with a tiny bathroom, For young and fit travellers without a car this would be good value and reasonably comfortable.
There were very disruptive works in the street outside making even a brief stop with the car impossible. What was described as nearby, private and secure parking was none of these! The "lift" - essential at our age and with multiple bags - was a joke, and we felt embarrassed and humiliated by its temperamental operation! We, all agreed we should move on after one night and we have learnt that if the price looks too good to be true it probably is!
I could say the elevator, but it would take much more than one minute...
Very helpful host. Great city centre location. Efficiently run.
Tram construction works impede access. This appears unlikely to be resolved before 2020
It was in temporary road construction when we visited there, but that is not the hotel’s fault!
