Pros: A beautiful setting with wonderful grounds. Exceedingly quiet. The room was tastefully equipped with all that was required. The breakfast tropically French self service. Evening meal for the cost was fantastic value. Also wine, as much as one dare drink was excellent quality. The hotel is situated quite close to the river and adjacent is a wild vegetated park, so quiet for an evening walk. I would definitely use this location again.

Pros: Hostellerie Bon Pasteur is in an ideal location in Angers, just over the bridge from the chateau. It is easy to find and there is plenty of free parking. Both receptionists we saw spoke English and were polite and efficient. Our room was light and spacious with a big shuttered window. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom also had a large window and a good shower. Our room was spotlessly clean and maintained to a high standard. The breakfast was simple but very good. We enjoyed being 'directed' by a lady who is a member of the community there. There is a lovely feeling of absolute peace and tranquillity at the hostellerie.

The location is excellent as you are just a short walk away from the hustle and bustle of the town, while at the same time, the hotel is tucked away in a very secluded area where silence prevails. The room was very comfortable and with all the amenities. Staff is quick to respond if you need anything. Could not think of a better place to kick back and relax. Angers itself has plenty to offer, so Hotel du Mail is the perfect place to come back to at the end of a long day strolling the narrow streets of Angers.

Cons: The fact that there is no elevator. Hot water takes ages to arrive After two nights we left prematurely (without getting any refund for the remaining two nights) - since we couldn't take it anymore. The staff was not that helpful.

Cons: Only down side of our visit was the renovation outside the hotel. But what can you do. I hope it will be finished any time soon and future quests can sleep little longer than we did, if desired.

Cons: Our backpacks were stolen from luggage room. When discussing with staff, the attitude was neglecting and suspicious. The receptionist refused to believe us and even questioned if we had left any backpacks. She called to manager but yet, we have not been contacted.

Cons: The tiny shower you could barely move in. Also, quite oddly, the hotel’s own description on trip advisor, presumably written or approved by the hotel, says it’s opposite Jardin des Plantes. It’s not. That’s the OTHER Mercure hotel. You want the more centrally located hotel near the train station—Mercure Angers Centre Gare where we stayed on Boulevard Foch. It’s a great walk to the chateau aka fortress and cathedral and museums. (No doubt the other hotel is fine and being close to the beautiful garden is a plus.)

Pros: When writing a review of this hotel in October 2017, I indicated I would certainly stay there again if back to Angers. Now, this has come true, I stayed at Hotel Iena again, for 4 nights this time. My second stay was as pleasant as the first one. The hotel is a bit outside the very historical centre, but 5 minutes walk to the castle and 2 minutes from the bus/railway station. It is simple but everything is clean and quiet. I had the room with the balcony, it has two beds and the view of the crossing. There are restaurants and shops within an easy reach. The staff is nice and helpful. All in all, this is a good hotel close to everything in Angers and I would not hesitate to choose it for the third time.

At first I was skeptical about the noise level but with the window shut it was extremely quiet. The location is also good, being very close to the tram to get to the city center, and it is also close to the river as well as some restaurants, bars and groceries. Parking is pretty easy and also cheap - although not directly connected to the hotel.

Cons: No fault of the hotel but we arrived when the main street outside was under massive reconstruction with both sidewalks and the road. This made access quite difficult plus the noise was monumental (although the windows did a good job of drowning that out. Relative to the hotel, it was certainly on the faded side of royalty. The room was very spartan and there were no amenities: fridge, microwave, coffee/tea making etc. For the money I would have expected at least some of that.

Cons: There were very disruptive works in the street outside making even a brief stop with the car impossible. What was described as nearby, private and secure parking was none of these! We, all agreed we should move on after one night and we have learnt that if the price looks too good to be true it probably is!

Pros: A good chain hotel - 5-10 mins to the old town and its attractions - rooms, cleanliness and staff all good
Cons: Breakfast is good and wide ranging, if a touch expensive. Main current problem is that the roads in the area are being dug up (due to last until Sept) and driving access is possible but difficult. The hotel is part of the conference centre, and the entrance is at the right hand end as you face it. You can stop outside whilst getting instructions to access the garage - basically you have to drive round four sides of a square.

Cons: On going road works probably don’t help this hotel. But even with that it is a jaded and tired business mans hotel in need of an upgrade

Cons: 1. Parking is offered - but does not exist 2. 4 Flights of narrow stairs - no warning of no lifts 3. No one to receive you - and difficulty of gaining access (what would happen if I did not, by chance, have a phone? I had to assist another guest that did not have a phone?) 4. In my booking I specify my e-mail as preferred route of communication - but none of this is communicated ahead of time

Cons: No one was there at the property, we had to phone a number to get in. It was dirty and ugly. My biggest concern, though was fire safety. We were three flights up. There was only one stairwell, no fire escape. I was lying in bed at night trying to imagine what way to knot the sheets together in case of a fire in the stairwell.
