1
9.3 Excellent (158 reviews)
Overview Reviews

Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and multilingual staff. A roundtrip airport shuttle is complimentary (available 24 hours).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: New modern apartment (bedroom and living room) with big bathroom, comfortable beds with high quality linen - very good dinner/tasty food in hotel restaurant - staff speaks good English as well - Location: very close to airport which is good for early morning flights - free transfer was arranged for us from the hotel to the airport
Cons: - Diifficult to find, the location (off the main road) is not well enough signposted so hardly visible in the dark. The address which is linked to on google maps is wrong and in a far away different location, so our taxi driver was thus misdirected and we got lost. Not great when coming in after the dark! - Open shower - No shower enclosure makes bathroom floor slippery
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff with free shuttle to airport.
Cons: Will be even nicer once the gym is open
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely friendly staff. Rooms are very spacious, spotlessly clean and the beds are super comfortable - the mattress has a built-in soft topper and the bed linen & pillows were top quality. Located only 5 mins from the airport and the free shuttle driver was waiting in arrivals with a sign. Hotel is great for an overnight transit stopover. We stayed twice, on our way to and back from Nosy Be. Great value for money.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location is excellent, a very short transfer from the hotel. It's very professional - clean, well organised staff who check our flights and woke us to ensure we got to the plane in time. Dinner was exceptional.
Cons: Had to remind the staff to check our flights a few times. There are some stray dogs whose nighttime barking can be heard in the room, bar and restaurant were well stocked but lacked a bit of atmosphere.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beds and linens were sooooo nice. Rooms were huge, good was good. They let us check in 2 hours early and our flight was at 330am so they packed us a breakfast to go at 130am.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very close from the airport with free shuttle. Rooms are spotless and staff is very friendly
Cons: Nothing great place to stay
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was our second time staying here during this trip. It’s too far from the airport. The staff was great, as before.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We visited here for dinner a number of evenings while at a conference in the area, and then stayed for two nights at the end of a holiday (for a bit of luxury). It was the cold season, so we very much appreciated the duvets and heating. Very comfortable rooms with kettle, tea and pristine bathrooms and rooms. The staff speak excellent English and were really hospitable - they helped us arrange drivers to visit Andasibe reserve and Ambohimanga, and also arrange efficient airport transfers.
Cons: As we ate here for quite a few nights in a row, we would have enjoyed a wider range of dinner options, particularly some lighter/simpler options to choose from (although the dishes we did eat were very good, they were quite heavy and high-end for routine meals!).
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were friendly and helpful. Gave advice on dining, transportation and packed us breakfast as we had an early flight. The bed and linens were very comfortable and the bathroom was high quality. Everything was new.
Cons: The location was a little like a building site, very dusty, but felt safe

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect! Best hotel in town. Definitely recommend.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Swimming pool, interior decoration, location.
Cons: Showerhead was missing the wall fixture. Warm water was not regular, missing a 50 usd thermo regulator. You have to clim some 70 steps but then you are rewarded with a stunning view and no city sound whatever. I slept like a baby. So actually this is not something I dislike.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing house. Amazing stay. The pool looked very nice but unfortunately I did not have time to enjoy it. The rooms are really comfy and really really clean. Might my best stay in Madagascar. The lady at the reception is simply adorable and tries her best to help you. Such a nice person. The owners turned and old house into hotel and did a good job. Would not stay anywhere else if I'm back in Tana.

Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful room. Very friendly staff. Peaceful gardens. I took breakfast on the patio by the gorgeous gardens. Fortunately, I will end my trip in Madagascar with a 2-night stay at this hotel, and I can't wait to return! This was the nicest hotel I stayed at in Madagascar -- especially for the value. I was especially appreciative of the attentive staff. I was really sick during my night there (I have no idea what I ate or drank), and all I wanted for breakfast was yogurt and ginger tea. The man was so kind, and didn't charge me. It was such a kind gesture and he was so sincere about wanting me to have a great trip.
Cons: Nothing! All good! I arrived late and left early, so I don't really know where this hotel is in relation to sightseeing places. (I'm on a guided tour.) Note: This hotel provides a bit of shampoo and a bar of soap, but most hotels in Madagascar don't provide shampoo, even though they check the "toiletries provided" box on this site. I was glad I had my own shampoo and cream rinse with me.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff, excellent food!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely gardens, excellent food. Very large room with hot shower and kitchenette.
Cons: Far from the main road. Taxi required to leave the hotel even for short distances

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is perfect is you’re traveling from Tana airport (or arriving of course) It’s a small place but it has everything you need. The room is good, beds are fine , shower is hot . The food is great and there’s even a free shuttle to the airport. But the best thing we noticed about this place is the manager . Great guy , super friendly . Highly recommended . Thank you
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Waited for us at the airport as agreed, and drove us to the hotel, which is fairly close to the airport so not to much time spent in the car. Made a delicious dinner for us that we really enjoyed while talking to us about Madagascar, Very nice stay indeed. Hot shower and clean and comfortable room :)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The host is very friendly and treat us just like a family. As a first place for our travel at Madagascar. She and her family taught us some basic but useful Magalasy. It’s really beneficial for our whole journey!
Cons: The ceiling is low. Just need to be aware not to hit your head by yourself!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Super nice host who picked us up in the middle of the night from the airport. The rooms have been sparkling clean, pool was nice as well. Perfect for a rest after that long flight.

Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff could not have been more helpful. The manager was so efficient, friendly and gave me some great advice via email before my arrival not only about the booking but my planned trips around Tana. She was also extremely helpful and understanding when I needed to make a last minute change to my booking. I was very impressed with the service altogether. The transfer from the airport was equally efficient. It is a lovely location with a pretty garden: a haven of calm and peace in what is otherwise a very busy town. I would not hesitate to recommend it to others.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: They went out of their way to book a driver for the day to take me to run some important errands during my short stay. Brilliant communication and friendly staff!
5.8 Okay
Pros: nice big room, large bathroom. candy at the coffeemaker in the room. the house looks also nice. there's a pousse-pousse in the garden!
Cons: very noisy environment. birds on the roof sounded like elephants on the roof, so we did't catch much sleep! the breakfast was the worst in 21 days travelling around Madagascar, although it was promising… with extra's as yoghourt, choco etc. ==> But the jars were dirty and sticky, the bread was defrozen and still ice cold inside! not acceptable in the capital, since we almost got good bread, whereever we went!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The place is very nice and the staff really friendly. Besides even if it is not advertised they try to find solutions to what you might need. It's worth asking.
Cons: Not much to improve, perhaps some selection of snacks available. There are drinks but not snacks :-)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We stayed here twice during our visit in Madagascar. Both the rooms we rented were clean and nice. The familiy room above the kitchen/restaurant is the best room. Plenty of space and including kitchen with water heater and refrigerator, two toilets, a nice bathroom and a big terrace. The guesthouse is surronded by a big, lovely garden which is very different from the street outside. The staff speaks english. The lady who runs the place is always making sure the visitors have a good time. They offer airport transport for 10 euro at daytime and 15 euro at nighttime. There were a big radiated turtle in the garden :-)
Cons: The three course dinner served is OK, but there are better options if you take a walk outside the hotel. There were some dogs barking nearby at night.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Big room, Nice bed. Very friendly people around. Beautiful building. We stayed only a short night, as a night stop between Nosy-Be and Morondava. Would’ve loved to stay longer.
Cons: Everything was okay
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All of the staff is friendly. Meva has the best employees
Cons: N/A
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very tranquil place to stay, nice staff, comfortable rooms and close to the airport.
Cons: Coffee
7.1 Good
Pros: The breakfast was decent and the food at night ok. I didn't mind the 3 floor walk up. Staff I deal with were all very good and helpful. The room I was in was large enough and the adjacent bathroom was convenient. The place was clean. The location was reasonably close to the airport (as compared to a place down in the center of the city). If you are a traveler with a car and need to just get in and out of Ivato this place has some major advantages if you can navigate to the location (GPS probably required) - narrow streets and about 500 meters off the main drag (RN4).
Cons: There were two or three irritants. First the lighting in the room was terrible. I had to remove the lampshades to get enough light to read and work. And even then it was a nuisance in the evening. The power went out and water died but frankly those were short-lived and quickly remedied by the staff. The second was I expected noise from the neighborhood and accepted it but one morning there was loud music coming from the bottom floor of the hotel. What the heck? Lastly, is that there is very little close to the place to eat at and chill in the evening. The on-site place is good but it is a kitchen and dining room - fine for one night but three nights in a row can make one want something else that allows more people watching. All this said, I still would stay there if I was passing through Tana or wanted to chill completely for a day and night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The warmth of the welcome. The supper was cooked freshly for us. We had to leave at 0500 to catch a flight; the driver was on time and the staff were up to open the gates. We had a really large suite and a huge veranda. Fantastic start to our adventures in Madagascar.
Cons: Nothing was wrong at all. It is not a criticism but we found out (after we arrived) that they arrange car + driver/tours etc. Please tell people who book that Meva Guest House can do this. You offered us a meal and we had this option; we would have hired the car through you too.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Yannick at reception was very helpful.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Close to airport. Very comfortable. Good internet.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Location is what we wanted, in that we were looking for something right near the airport. This is (though not close enough to be noisy). For the purpose of a quick night between flights, this is a great option. Friendly and incredibly helpful staff who work very hard. Reasonable price. Rooms are basic, but clean, with the typical Mada mattress (giant chunk of foam). For some reason, this hotel is designed to look like a castle, but also has a variety of theme park-like attractions.
Cons: Toilet paper was provided, but was poor quality and dispensed from a terribly designed dispenser, which was also located directly behind you.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel to stay if you need something near the airport, good value for the price!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Extremely friendly team and great surrounding. Antoine is doing a fantastic job and I will certainly return. Breakfast is delicious and dinner menue offers regularly changing delicious meals. Rooms, the shower and the beds just perfect!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: the room was large and clean, the bathroom too. one of the only rooms I had in 3 weeks Madagascar with a small heater (we could use).
Cons: there was a lot of streetnoise early in the morning, coming from the backside of the hotel (as often in Madagascar)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Airport location
6.7 Good
Pros: The room was comfortable, and they provided water bottles. The closeness to the airport.
Cons: We could not pay by card as the person at the reception did not know how to use the card machine.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Convenient location Good room though smaller but ok
Cons: Pick up from airport was not available despite reminders In the morning it was hard to find the receptionist at the counter
Grand Hôtel Urban - Antananarivo - Building
8
8.8 Excellent (278 reviews)
Overview Reviews
A stay at Grand Hôtel Urban places you in the heart of Antananarivo, steps from Musee Andafivaratra and 8 minutes by foot from Ambohitsorohitra Palace. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. 9.2 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are tastefully decorated. Nice breakfast buffet . Friendly staff
7.1 Good
Pros: Nice location with panoramic view of the city, walking distance from many restaurants. The decoration is simple and nice. The lobby/restaurant/terrace are the best part of the hotel. The breakfast had a good assortment and local dishes to taste. Overall overpriced given the avg prices in Tana
Cons: The room was tiny and there was barely the space to open the suitcase. The service was not very good: only one towel (they added more after we complained) and 2 pillows without cover (which stayed the same). No snacks available at the bar for the happy hour so we went to the supermarket to buy some
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Its a cozy room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff. Room is clean
Cons: Room is not big. Breakfast could be better
7.9 Good
Pros: Very friendly staff. Charming decor. From the terrace, one can see the cascading Antananarivo cityscape.
9.6 Excellent

Cons: Nothing really...
7.9 Good
Pros: Great value stay, amazing location. Very clean, good wifi.
Cons: A cheaper airport transfer would be appreciated. As well as a more affordable breakfast.
6.7 Good
Pros: Overall good Average breakfast
Cons: The staff is trying to be helpful but the communication is awful (and I speak French fluently)! I booked a business room (with breakfast) which was more expensive than the comfort room yet it was smaller in size and when I asked the property to change rooms and I would pay the difference... they said I would have to forgo the reservation (which I could not cancel) then rebook with them the comfort room and breakfast not included! Are you serious? So ridiculous Room very small and no where but floor to put luggage
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast in the morning was reasonably priced and tasted good. The lobby facilities and deck were great.
7.5 Good
Pros: Grand hotel Urban is a very stylish and comfortable boutique hotel. We had a room with balcony which was lovely but the hotels common restaurant terass is also very nice! We had both lunch ( hamburger that was delicious) and a nice dinner at the hotel. Breakfast was buffet with a good selection
Cons: Be aware that if you stay during weekend you should book a room higher up in the building since they have live music as entertainment, ( they solved it good for us, having us change room/floor, without problem, when we complained abt. the sound)

I strongly recommend passing by Madagascar Underground when you're travelling through Tana, when you are staying in Tana for longer time, or just pass by, even when you are not sleeping there, you can hang out in the bar and you will definitely find some interesting people to talk with, including the wonderful staff! If I ever go back to Mada, I will pass by MU again!

Cons: Bungalow too small with unsafe stairs. Water flow very low in shower and no hot water..
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great atmosphere, chill outdoor patio, excellent Central location on a quiet street, rooms are comfortable.

Great bar area for chilling and rooftop seating areas too, have stayed here 4 times now throughout my travelling and would recommend it 100%. Staff are super helpful and friendly, always responsive with any queries.
Cons: The food here isn't great - quite bland and overpriced but there are loads of restaurants and cafes nearby, the hostel is in an excellent location.
7.1 Good

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really well run backpacker hostel with everything you need and very helpful staff!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice living room where you can talk with many backpakers. Very good position. Friendly and available staff. Good burritos for dinner. We stayed two nights in the double room with private bathroom.
Cons: We reserved for an extra night and they made confusion with names and so after a travel of almost 14 ours we didn’t find our reserved room. Unfortunally, we had to leave for unother place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place was very nice and confortable. Close to center. The staff was very helpful. I would go there again:)

Cons: Wifi can be improved - was on and off
7.9 Good
Pros: Nice place to stay in Tana. Good breakfast, kind and helpful staff. Good location - very good restaurants nearby.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast buffet is excellent. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The room ("suite" would be more appropriate, for what I had anyway) was large and spotless. The hotel is located in one of the posher parts of the city. Walking around at night is not advised, though. The hotel has no restaurant, but fortunately there are several eating options very close by.
Cons: No restaurant.
7.9 Good
Pros: Nice staff, very welcoming and helping, Breakfast was nice, staff was quite helpful to advise some nice restaurants or even bring the food to us for zero fees!
Cons: It was noisy
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was big, shower great and mini bar full of goodies
Cons: Nothing really
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly, helpful staff. Early check in, late check out. Very clean, comfy, spacious room. Delicious breakfast, freshly cooked omelette. Recommended.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: i loved my room spacious and the decor nice and simple
Cons: my AC was working only on cooling and not warming my room
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location, location, location... This smallish hotel is simple and to the point. The comfort level is good but not exceptional, but then again, one should not expect more at this price point. The two bedroom suite we occupied was clean and spacious and well equipped. Unfortunately, and despite the staff's best efforts, the water in the shower was difficult to maintain at a comfortable temperature. That is the only caveat of this otherwise excellent stay. Also, our suite was three stories up via stairs, so not for everyone... Kudos to the entire staff whom went out of their way to make us feel welcome, and try to indulge our every request. Bravo! I will not hesitate to book again.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: We booked a superior room and it was dismal, small, bathroom not very modern, lots of mosquitos flying around in the room. We decided to check out to another hotel, but the lovely lady at reception offered us a suite for the same price. IT WAS COMPLETELY LOVELY, large room, bathroom very modern AND with balcony. So I suggest DO NOT book a "superior room", it is not SUPERIOR and the photos are misleading!! The staff were great and informative. The restaurant was expensive and the food was ordinary, though it appeared to be popular with the French elite!! The breakfast was plentiful with plenty of lovely french pastries. The hotel itself was quirky with lots of antiques. It had a beautiful terrace with flowers etc but was too cold to sit out!
Cons: Meals except for breakfasts. Superior room!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food was excellent. The restaurant was wonderful -tables superbly set, food choice and presentation excellent, service excellent and attentive.
7.1 Good
Pros: La Varangue has a old school, colonial feel to it with plenty of interesting artifacts for the kids to check out (incl. old cars and a house tortoise). We enjoyed the terrace/garden and the relaxed feeling of the whole place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is one of the most charming boutique hotels I have been in over the last years. it is a cozy, family lead hotel in the heart of the capital, in a cobble stoned side street of the old city along the hills. offering a small view over the city from its green small garden where turtles graze peacefully. With vast antique collections decorating the walls, including old shots of the city and countryside, well restoredautomobile oldtimers greeting you in the front court, the day and evening ambience is that of a warm and welcoming resting spot. A quiet oasis with lots of French charme. The cuisine is one of the best in town and the menue offers duck and seafood options, with a typical French breakfast buffet, offering great local coffee (incl local vanilla pods in the sugar bowls). The staff speaks French, but also English and are attentive to detail and go the extra mile for you at all times. Not surprising the local elite frequently is seen dining and lunching in their indoor and outdoor dining patios, whilst maintaining a scene of youngsters getting together for a weekend drink at the place. For me as said the place to be for a stopover in town, or as a restful, soul refrshing break, also for the start or end of your country tour. Just remember that you should integrate into their dress code, as else you may look a bit out of place. Smart casual is somewhat expected, I would suggest. Great place, glad to be there again when i visit next. 10/10 for the country benchmark.
Cons: Bring Mosquito Spray. These pests are everywhere and Malaria is present in the country.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Little gem in such a poluted city, a place to breath. Fine dining...
Cons: The nylon sheets under the cotton bed shee is very disturbing and makes you sweat. Fits to a nursing home, not to a hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely atmosphere
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food was exceptionally good, both the breakfast buffet and the a la carte dinner. The rooms are clean and have everything you need. We stayed there twice and would definitely come back again. It is probably the nicest place in Antananarivo.
Cons: Like everywhere in Antananarivo it is not safe to walk around the area at night. Just use common sense.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Looks like historical hotel with huge artifacts collection
Cons: The restaurant is over-praised. Very good service but cuisine is pretty ordinary.
7.5 Good
Pros: Awesome, ecclectic collection of "collections". Old cars, instruments, photos...
Cons: Sleazy businessmen in the restaurant. (The restaurant here is frequented by them).
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely, charming place to stay - with much-needed comfort after a trip into the country side. Staff was exceptionally friendly.
Cons: On the expensive side. That also holds for the food, which was good but not as amazing as reviews made us expect (using terms as “gourmet” etc).

7.5 Good
Pros: The staff was friendly and helpful. The bed was also very comfortable.
Cons: Like a lot of places in Tana, this property is on a hill. However, you can not drive up to it and you have to climb quite a few stairs to get to it from the road. This was very difficult with my knee injury and had I known, I would have booked elsewhere.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast, helpfull management.
Cons: Rooms are not soundproof. There might be problems with noise especially at lower floors.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hidden garden in the centre Tana. Staff were very attentive. Central location.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very well located with easy walking access to shops, markets, sights and restaurants. The rooms are large and attractively decorated. The bathroom with shower was decent and the water was hot - quite a luxury in Madagascar as we found out! The garden is beautiful and it was possible to eat breakfast on the terrace. The hotel itself is very secure with a locked gate. Finding it after sunset was difficult as it is not well signposted and the main entrance is via stairs from street level. However, staff were helpful and welcoming even late in the evening. I can strongly recommend this hotel.
Cons: The staff were very willing to provide the meals per the standard menu. The food was good but not exceptional and given the easy access to a variety of good restaurants in the area I would say it is better to eat out.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: nice and comfortable room (pillow just a bit hard), nice garden
Cons: they good do with a more diverse food menu or change the menu on daily basis.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Frinedly stuff, big room, warm water.
Cons: /
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good staff, good location. Loved the both exterior and interior there.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Cosey hôtel and nice staff. Very comfortable bed, good facilities. Good coffee for breakfast.
Cons: Breakfast could have had more verity of options - Bread and jam with the option of an egg. No milk for coffee or tea until the 4th day. Tana has great fresh fruit markets, good locally made yogurt, lots of supermarkets so don't quite understand this.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Charming and centrally located. Very friendly staff!
Cons: The room was quite small
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet, cute, clean, fast wifi, great location, nice staff:) returned back after my trip to morondava and it felt a bit like coming home

7.5 Good
Pros: We choose for a location close to the airport because we had to leave the next day. The rooms are clean, the bed is big. We had lunch outside at the pool in the afternoon and that was nice. They have a good menu and the food was excellent. In the evening we had to eat in the restaurant because it was to cold. There was life pianomusic what was great but the accoustics in the restaurant is very load. The pool is nice and clean. The little boutique at the reception has very nice souvenirs at a very correct price.
Cons: The pool area is small and not very cosy. To little green for example. Accoustics of the restaurant is very loud to be cosy. The rooms have no window, only a glass door what makes it rather dark. The value for money good be better

Pros: Lunch was great, breakfast was also good. Fara's hospitality was really great that we can feel it like at home. Fara are flexibile to fulfil the customer needs. Also location is near to the center and we feel very safe.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Fara is one of the most friendly hosts who I ever met.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Fara and Richard are amazing people and very friendly. They assisted us with planning our days and our tour around Madagascar. We were fortunate enough to have Richard be our driver for 24 days which was very generous at age 70. He is a safe and reliable driver on the bad roads in Mada. Would recommend this place and will stay again. The breakfast and dinner were both great and a fair price.
Cons: Nothing.
7.1 Good
Pros: Availability of the host.
Cons: location prevented us from exploring on foot
7.1 Good
Pros: Hostilities showed by house owner
Cons: Location, far from city center, inconvenient
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and familiar atmopshere.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were amazing, and joined us for the delicious dinners they had cooked. The rooms were neat and clean, and had been made while we were out during the day, which was not otherwise done during my stay in Madagascar. The WiFi was good, but only where we ate our meals, which was by the rooms of the hosts. There was no signal by the rooms for the guests.
Cons: This guesthouse had a good rating for location, which I honestly find puzzling. The taxi drivers I persuaded to take me here all said that had never taken tourists to this part of Tana, and the guesthouse was nowhere near walking distance to the centre of Tana. To the south-east of the centre, there's a a long hill, the Haûte-Ville (high city), and this guesthouse is on the far side; that means either walking a long way around, or battling the stairs up the hill, through an area I certainly wouldn't walk in at night.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The guest house is cosy and well furnished with large rooms and bathrooms. Fara and her partner were only too happy to help out with anything I needed or wanted to know about my visit. Continental breakfast with homemade jams were delicious. It was an absolute pleasure to stay there and I would stay again in a heartbeat!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hosts are very welcoming and treat you like family. They both speak good English. It is clean and spacious with access to a good kitchen. Cheap drinks are available at the property. Some nice homemade food for dinner was a treat!

Pros: The two bedroom apartment is big size with a kitchen and modern bathroom. The hot water shower is very good. (During my 16 day trip around Madagascar, nearly all the hotels arranged by my travel agent doesn't have good water pressure.) I feel being back home once stepping into this apartment.
Cons: The staff working at night doesn't really speak English. It caused me a big shock when they told me I was not booked in. But it is not a big issue as my taxi driver helped me to communicate with them and settled the problem.
7.1 Good
Pros: Helpful staff and the room was large and the bed was comfortable.
Cons: No restoration lunch or dinner.
9.6 Excellent

6.3 Good
Pros: the staff was amazing, especially orlando and the other male waiter. manager was nice too. zebu filet was the best one in whole madagascar!
Cons: the other clients were disgusting! a lot of old french men with very young women + old french man coughing and spitting under tables, nobody wants to see or hear that. ham and cheese plate consisted of 5 slices of sausage and 3 slices of cheese.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The appartment we had was big and comfortable. It wae very clean and the shower was very good. The place has an excelent restaurant. we had a very good dinner . I warmly recomend the place
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great central location, though need to be careful going out at night. Amazing restaurant. Breakfast was great, though sometimes didn't have everything (e.g. fruit salad)
Cons: Restaurant very loud at times. Walls were thin, could hear people in hallway. Needed to use earplugs and was woken up at midnight and 1 a.m. on more than one occasion.
6.3 Good
Pros: The #1 reason to stay at La Ribaudière is the restaurant. The Raclette was amazing! Really some of the best food we ate in Madagascar. Given that you can't walk around Tana after dark, it pays to stay at a place with a such a great restaurant. Rooms were reasonably priced for the location, which was close to market and ideal for venturing into Tana.
Cons: The rooms were meh. Nothing special and darkly lit. Mosquito nets didn't really fit around the beds and therefore weren't very effective. Restaurant was also filled with mosquitos. Restaurant staff seemed a little over it.
7.9 Good
Pros: The restaurant is outstanding. The rooms are nicely decorated. Comfortable beds and bedding.
Cons: Some of the rooms (across the street) are open to the public, and though there are supposed to be night guards, I often didn't see anyone around. Felt a bit unsafe.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: My work colleagues and I decided to stay in La Ribaudière due to good reviews, especially about the restaurant. We were not disappointed at all. All rooms were very comfortable and clean. Great staff! Very helpful and polite with all of our requests and whenever we needed help. The restaurant is the highlight. We had dinner every single day and the meals and beverages were high standard.
Cons: We only had a small problem with one bathroom of our loft, that the water drainage was not functioning and therefore we couldn't use the shower.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Clean and well located. The restaurant is awesome and friendly staff!
7.9 Good
Pros: Cozy place, nice food and kind people
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The room was very cosy and the bed comfortable ! The restaurant had really good food . Location is very close to city centre and easily walkable the the town square . We only spent one night here . The staff was very helpful . They helped us organise taxi to the airport and were helpful about other suggestions as well .
8.8 Excellent
Pros: it is in the historical area bang in the center of this strange and lovely city. Firstly the rooms all have separate entrances and they are separated by the restaurant by a coblestone street. The room i was in was recently renovated and had everything i needed. It was not big but very comfortable, The food is really, really good in the restaurant, and although a bit strange at first you get used to the to and fro across the street. I felt like i am in a historical area, well taken care of and welcomed. Bed was big, lots of channels on TV, Well appointed room. Night watch security to escort you around, quiet but central street. Bright room. They give you this huge safe keys to drag around which was kind of special.
Cons: Initially i was sent to a bit of a horror room due to a misunderstanding, but once i got to my real room i was happy. There was no drinking water in the room as i arrived , there were no cups in the room. There is no phone in the room and staff have not thought of informing me on how to contact the reception. no view.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very good location, close to businesses, ministries and administrative offices. Offers good food, reasonably priced. Basic meeting facilities. Restaurant personnel very friendly.
Cons: Breakfast is quite expensive for those who cannot have heavy meals before heading to meetings. Access to and from airport can get complicated.
5.0 Okay
Pros: good location
Cons: bed was terrible - like a hammock; standard rooms are small; hotel under renovation - but for 4 star rated - it could be better; nevertheless Spa, swimming pool and sauna are perfect
6.7 Good
Pros: The staff is nice, helpful and kind. WiFi works well (a miracle in Tana), the location is very centred. Breakfast service was the best in the whole hotel experience.
Cons: The rooms where ultra tiny, too much for a 4star hotel. The cleaning service was knocking the door all the time one day we stayed in the morning.... They had forgotten this and then that. There are almost no sockets to plug in electronic devices and few don't even work.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast, lunch and dinner we're all excellent. The coffee especially, after a lot of local coffee (not a knock on Madagascar coffee, I'm just not use to it), was great. The spa was nicely laid out and enjoyable.
Cons: The gym was very small and didn't end up using it. Note: the attendants were on their game and offered me a towel and water bottle immediately upon arrival. We had a late departure and discussed our options with the front desk. They informed us for half the price we paid for the room we could keep it until 7pm. When we checked out at 7pm we ended up paying the same price as a full day. The miscommunication occurred because we booked online (70 euros) not at the hotel (135 euros). "Half price" to the front desk meant half their usual rate, which is 72 euros. For us this was full price. Unfortunately had we known we may not have elected to take them up on their offer and ultimately felt a little cheated. To mitigate this issue the staff should provide the price of the extended stay in euros, and avoid stating it relative to something else (which may be variable).
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Inner swimming pool and spa are good and reception is helpful.
Cons: I have to leave alarm message for all foreigner that we have been arrested near to downstairs of Jardin Antaninarenina (just in front of Hotel Le Louvre) on the intersection of Lalana Paul Dussac by two national polices after dinner in the restaurant La Ribaudiere around 19 pm, and one of these two polices asked us to show them the passport and threatening to bring us to police station to pay for the fine 37 euros per person if i can not show them our passport. Be careful they were bad guy just asking to paying for them money and i refused to give them money but asked them to bring me go to police station together to pay for that fine properly but after more than 20 minutes walking in the night on the dark street we have reached a corner and that young police guy finally told us that office is closed and let us to leave without having any money from us. I said to them thank you very much and asked them why they did not know their police station office closing time when they told me that we have to go to police office to pay for that fine?? shame on him and he made Madagascar Police force shameful and stupid.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was in the city centre and very convenient. It was strategically juxtaposed to all other complementary businesses for their customers i.e., bank, police station, church, open market, other restaurants.
Cons: The price was a bit high for the current economy and similar competitive establishments.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast no international, have only 2-3 kind of foods and same in everyday. The location are goods.
Cons: The room to small for 2 person, some days are noisy from music can't sleep, have smoking smell from other room in sometime, and didn't have water complementary in everyday should request.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Location and spa l
Cons: Bed is not comfortable , water pressure is very low in the wash room
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very good cuisine, nice apartment with terrace, professional staff with good English and really nice SPA
Cons: Maybe a little overpaid

7.1 Good
Pros: The premises is well located. The lobby is nice.
Cons: The front desk reception is not friendly at all. Any challenge reported is not really considered. The customer is not really considered.

Cons: Tea and coffee were poor quality.
7.5 Good
Pros: The location is great, staff friendly and helpful
7.5 Good
Pros: The location, the spa, the restaurant and boulangerie. The technical staff, the casino.
Cons: The rooms are old, we changed twice our room because the windows were not closing properly. Even after that we had the same issue in the other room. Someone was supposed to come and fix the problem the next day - which never happened. We had a queen bed and a single bed in our room. The single bed is small and not confortable for an adult. The safe box was not working anymore and have been replaced by another one - which was not fixed to the wall like the one before, so anyone can walk away with it in their hand.

Pros: some of the rooms have a very nice view on the city. there is a quite good bakery in the hotel. it is generally a nice hotel to stay in.
Cons: long waiting times at the reception. water for bath is not clear (probably a city issue).
