Nice overall but I'm just a normal working stiff and it was not a luxury or romantic place just an average clean motel would stay again if price was 65-70 on weekend or 35-40 weekday. Hotdogs in cowtown, mustard and onions only, but with a smile pleeez . Love ya
Very good location, clean small room. Very good WiFi, off street parking, nice location. Office has irregular hours. Older but maintained. Small office style fan/heater only source, but adequate if not state of the art. I'd stay again, but not if my wife were with. Not a romantic destination, basic basic inexpensive lodging.
Very friendly service and clean room. Convenient location. had trouble with the room key working so had to wake the manager very early in the morning after taking my dog out to take care of business. Very responsive staff. think the charge for a single dog is high - $25/night.
Great service, location, beds and showers!
close to everything the breakfast
Smallish room, but it was quiet, clean and comfy.
Access to walking to all areas downtown. Easy access in parking. Quiet.
My friends and I stayed at the Avenue Inn after driving through Big Sur. We arrived after 10 pm and were greeted by Saul, who showed us to our room and gave some excellent dinner recommendations for late at night. The room was in great condition (newly renovated) and very comfortable for 4 adults to sleep in. Saul helped us in the morning by providing additional towels and helped with checkout as well. Overall we were very happy! Nothing - 100% would stay here again.
Clean, newly remodeled. Room was cold at first but was adequately warm after a few hours.
Newly re-decorated Although room was attractive, with no carpet or even a small rug, it had a very cold feel to it. Although I am sure cleaning is easier with no carpet. Used to get many more TV channels than now.
The staff was very nice. When we were getting a refund, the employee at the front desk was very apologetic and handled the situation as best she could. The cockroach that greeted us as soon as we opened the door. Also his little buddy the fly who flew around letting us know he was there to greet us. It immediately turned us off from that room and we just wanted to get the hell out of there as quick as possible.
Efficient and friendly staff. Place looks recently upgraded. Beds were good. Clean. Room was small but hey - it's Motel 6, not the Waldorf!
Staff was very knowable and professional rooms were a good size location was great Called for a taxi hours before a show they confirmed when taxi didn't show I called cab company they simply said they had no cabs available The front desk arranged for us to be picked up and taken to our show great job Black Oak staff :)
Location and price to value Not within walking distance to downtown but easy access to freeway and good central location for visiting local wineries.
This hotel is a great price, centrally located to wine country, the fair grounds and downtown Paso. We enjoyed eating breakfast at Margies Diner on the grounds. Our hotel cost included $5 off our breakfast and free coffee. This is the third stay for us and I would definitely stay again.
The Black Oak Best Western is an older motel, but has been remodeled and is quite comfortable. The pool looked newish and there is now an exercise room. Breakfast, $5 coupon p/p, next door is so big that we ended up splitting one breakfast and that was plenty to eat.
Large rooms, beautiful grounds, convenient shops and restaurants , great proximity to all wineries, friendly staff! Noisy guests on Saturday night
I had a fun time there, it's close to the water and the owners were friendly. There was breakfast in the morning and checkout time was reasonable at 11am. No complaints here.
Perfect Location Beautiful room Comfortable Perfect size Wonderful Staff Fireplace Romantic Pillows Shower Head
Stayed here with my wife and we had a great time. Location was great, it was 2 blocks from the all the shopping, restaurants, and bars. The staff was super friendly and the breakfast that was included was also good. They had bikes that we were able to use and road them throughout town. We had a great experience and will definitely be staying again
We had a great experience. The staff is excellent and so helpful. Our fireplace was broken, which they didn't know about until we got there. Jim (owner) tried to fix it but couldn't. He tried to get some out to fix it immediately, but couldn't. He felt terrible and gave us a generous gift certificate to a nice restaurant to compensate for it and made sure we had space heaters. He even personally called and got us a reservation and made sure the restaurant was aware and welcoming of our 2 year old daughter at a very nice restaurant where they don't even have a kids menu. Everyone was so kind to us. When we checked out, he apologized many times about the fireplace and it really wasn't a big deal to us. I would highly recommend this place. It was cute, comfortable, perfect size for our family, great location, and awesome staff.
Unique classic cottage-style establishment, with rustic (yet fully functional) amenities. it's located in a fairly centralized location, close to downtown as well as the freeway. Clean, friendly staff, and a great value.
Rooms are clean Bed is very hard and uncomfortable. Shower is very small. Don't expect concierge service from the guy at the front desk.
Great little place. Everything was clean. The hotel was right there when i needed it.
All very clean. The room was comfortable and the bed was super comfortable. I loved that the room had a fridge and microwave, most places don't. Everything was great.
The staff was unfriendly. The pool is under construction and this wasn't disclosed before booking. The room had an overpowering smell of cleaner. The free breakfast was only cold cereal.
The room was clean and the bed was comfy. The restroom too was adequate. Everything was great for a one night stop through San Luis. The location was literally down the street from the freeway, a gas station, the downtown area and two mins away from the mission we were there to see. Sure the exterior is no Hilton resort, but the price is great. The pool is basically a trash or deconstructed pit, but if the owner is smart, he'll just have it filled and have the area made into more parking space. Because a pool is not necessary for the place.
When looking for a simple place to rest while traveling, the San Luis inn does that well. While being a short walk to downtown it is also close to the highway without being loud. Breakfast was a little sparse but Jack in the box is across the street.
The hotel was very accommodating when I called ahead and requested an early check-in since we had an early afternoon wedding to attend. It also seemed like the bathrooms had been recently updated. However, we were uncomfortable being located in such a cramped, behind the laundry facilities hotel room. There was a hole in the wall near the mini-fridge and we had to park way down the street near someone's home because there was no parking when we got back.
clean room, new quiet heater/air conditioner, great price It's very close to the highway so when there is traffic you hear it. Nothing fancy, but everything in the room worked, including the wifi.
Convenient location. Booked on Kayak the same night. A Sunday night booking so I think there were available rooms everywhere. For a Budget option it is a great place. Coffee, Juice and Rolls for the breakfast is a nice morning starter.. Parking is very tight. Outside seems run down but the rooms are kept nicely.
The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The pool was empty and in disrepair.
great breakfast uncomfortable pillows
Clean room Fridge Microwave Wood floors Shower and tub Pricing No pool(empty) Low budget breakfast(should just not have one) Fridge needed more cleaning Parking (big trucks in small spots) All night people in and out Curtains (need darker ones that fit windows)
Stayed the night. The room was large, clean and comfortable for our need. The Inn is not a vacation spot itself but it is cheap and a great place to stay if you have a car and you are passing in the area or would like to viait thia nice town. There isn't much one can expect for such a low cost but 'breakfast' was coffee and orange juice, two types of store cakes and two types of cereal. OK
My room was clean and staff were friendly. The mattress in the room sagged in the middle, the wifi was very weak, and there were homeless people hanging out by the dumpsters.
Actually a nice place to stay for the price you pay. Internet. Kept going in and out. Had to be right by lobby to get a constant connection.
wifi not working. 3 lights not working. dirty towels. shower drain blocked.
There was a mistake with our reservation and they were very unhelpful in trying to help. The person in front of us even had the same mistake with their reservation and they were unwilling to do anything to try to resolve the situation. On top of a horrible check in experience, we checked into our room and had a giant bug in the room. They were helpful in letting us change rooms after we told them about the bug.
Found a used " Q-tip" on floor next to the bed. Other than that our stay was good
I was really impressed with everything. The Staff were helpful in every way.
After I left my wallet behind, staff contacted me to let me know and then were very accommodating in making arrangements to have it sent to me.
Easily accessible from the freeway, clean sheets, and towels. It was the small details that could be better. The bathroom needs some repairs done. Shower was not working properly and water kept dripping from the bathtub faucet.
The housekeeper was using our bathroom when we got into our room...so weird. Also, there was not fitted sheet on the bed. That seems really gross to me.
My stay here was very comfortable. It was clean, the staff was hospitable & it was in a great location. The price was very reasonable also. I would definitely stay here again.
This is one of the worst hotels I've stayed in over many years. At max, I'd pay $59 a night as it is basically a roof over your head. We paid $189 due to it being Cal Poly move-in weekend but you can't charge that amount for the hotel it is. It hasn't been renovated for over 10 years I'm guessing by the look of the rooms.
It's located adjacent to a Denny's and iHop and other restaurants are a stones throw away. The bed was very hard and the floor carpet looked dingy.
While this isn't a "5 star hotel", it is better than what you would expect for the price and general rating. It's small and privately owned by a single family, so they are much more interested in making sure the stay is phenomenal, compared, say, to a large corporate chain. There's no pool or hot tub, but the beach is very close. There's no room service, but it's within walking distance to lots of restaurants and cafés. And, just like everyone else has said, don't miss the "Magic Fingers"! I'm definitely staying here again! Just like with all hotels, the bed wasn't mine, so it wasn't the most comfortable. However, I've stayed in "nicer" places and I slept better at Sundown Inn.
The staff was wonderful and extremely helpful, genuinely interested in our comfort. Exceptionally clean as well. I'm not a motel kind of person, usually staying at Holiday Inn Express's etc...and so I was extremely worried about this being a flea bag motel. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into the room. Although it was small, it felt comfy like a bedroom rather than a hotel room. Lace on the windows and furniture, nice t.v., small walk-in closet, new tile and fixtures in the small bathroom. Nice wooded vaulted ceiling. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. And just a block away from Embarcadero St (where all the shops, resteraunts, water, and boats are). So the window looks out on the parking area, oh well. I do not regret staying there one bit. Oh and did I mention it was cleeeeeeean!!
Right off the get go the staff member who greeted us and employees were very friendly. The room was in the corner without a view but it filled the need and was extremely clean. I got the feeling that a lot of thought was put into customer care which is rare these days. I would definitely stay here again. If I had to really think about it, and this seems really picky, but the electrical could be updated in this room...This is by far not a deal breaker either as everything worked as it should.
OMG, these owners are the nicest people! Plus, they don't tell you but the beds still have "magic fingers" on them! Walking distance to everything in town, overall fantastic. Walking distance to restaurants.
The room set up was a little strange as the bathroom sink was in the bedroom, so if you were brushing your teeth, whomever was in bed would be staring right at you. but, the room was clean and spacious. The staff was welcoming and eager to serve.
From the moment we arrived we knew that we had booked the best hotel for the price in town. We drove by 9 other SLO hotels and Quality Suites was quality.
Living room and bedroom each with a tv which helps when you have kids. Breakfast is made hot to order. Loved the hotel. Parking was a tad tight.

The resort-like amenities
The fireplace was nice and cozy Doesn't work in the rain.Tv was very poor.Bathroom was tiny.
The size and layout of the room was perfect. Having coffee available at any time was wonderful. The free breakfast and the cantina were great ways to start and end a day! No!

The great customer service! No.
The breakfast was great.
Quiet, friendly staff, nice room cooked to order, as long as it is on the menu...
The room was big, the breakfast was substantial. But the construction was disturbing the peace and quiet of guests. My husband called and complained and they did not stop any construction until past 11:00 am. By that time, we were so fed up & left. They were renovating the hotel. The noise at 9:00 am was very, very, very AWFUL! It was bordering on the ridiculous. I would not have paid $-- for this freaking room.
Very clean and comfortable room and very friendly staff!
Great location. Reasonable price. Decent facilities. Rude staff. We were staying in Morro Bay for a wedding and my sister stopped by our room in the morning. The manager accused us of having more people staying with us. We were offended. The continental breakfast was room temperature Tang and costco muffins cut into four servings. You can borrow an iron from the front desk but expect eye-rolling.
The size of the room, the fake fireplace, and the efficiency of the heater. I couldn't not understand what the man behind the counter was saying. All he would do is mumble and never complete a sentence. Very frustrating.
We liked that we were walking distance to Morro Bay and very close to all the shops and restaurants on the Embarkdaro. The heater worked great! It exceeded our expectations for a 54.00 hotel. It was clean and nice. It was quiet and the staff was quiet. Nothing - it was a reasonable hotel for a very cheap price.
Awesome Location, just a short walk to the shops and restaurant. Old Bathroom, door didn't close. Heat A/C wasn't working.
The rooms were very spacious and there was plenty of room for the kids to roam around and they had a microwave and a refrigerator which made traveling with a baby much easier than the previous 2 nights. The room was very clean and even had a cute little fireplace. We will definitely stay again on our next trip. The man at the front was very rude and didn't pick up the phone or come to the desk to answer questions. He also charged an extra $20 for the night because we had a baby. Who slept in a travel bed I might add. When I showed him our reservation he said it wasn't right and that he had to charge the extra money for the baby.
The room is very clean, the location is close to beach. Good value for the money. The included breakfast is not good. Just quartered muffin, pastry, coffee. We be a better value if they improve the breakfast.
They didn't change the bedsheets or clean the room (vacuum, dust, clean counters, mop floor, etc) when we requested maid service. They did give us clean towels. The wallboards were sticky with black fingerprints, the carpet was dirty and the walls had dust on them. The heater was SO loud and the tempature wasn't accurate so we were cold each night. The tv sat on the microwave and they had an old refrigerator and the handle was dirty. This will be the last time we stay at Fireside Inn.
Clean, comfortable, and close to everything.
We stayed in July and were very pleased that the staff accommodated our request for a room with a view of the harbor. We enjoyed the fresh breeze through the open windows (even left them open at night). The electric fireplace heaters were a nice touch and worked well to take the chill off the evening air. We loved that we could walk just two blocks to the harbor and enjoy meandering down the street, popping into shops or restaurants. We even saw a sea lion sunning himself on the rocks. The continental breakfast is very minimal at the Inn, but there is a great Sun & Buns Bakery on Embarcadero with delicious pastries, breakfast burritos, and coffee drinks close by!
location is great, room was clean, bed - comfy
It was during the week so it was quite. The were putting in new windows and I didn't like the fact that while we were gone the room was opened so the men could work. It's a good thing we didn't have anything worth taking.
I have stayed here before a couple of times. The beds are always comfortable and the rooms clean. These are the two most important things to me. This is not fancy or elegant but suits the need of a clean comfortable room. There is no hair dryer and you'd better bring your own shampoo and soap as what they give you is a small sample. The fireplace is a nice touch and they provide the log. It does a good job warming up the room and is nice to doze off to while watching a little tv with the lights out. Spa is nice.
It was a couple of blocks up from the Embarcadero, but there was a pretty good view of Morro Rock from our rooms. The facilities are a bit older. Bathrooms small and sink did not drain well.
because it was by the morro bay rock yes the room smelled.
the location of the hotel near beach and shops is great there is no airco. During our stay it was nog warm zo no problem
Good hotel in walking range to restaurants and sightseeing. Breakfast room is REALLY small, had to take it to the room.
Pictures online made rooms look great. Reality was run down room with a new coat of paint. Dirty dirty dirty. Smeared fecal matter on bathroom door. Continental breakfast was stale cereal and bread for toast. Awful place and will never stay again.
The room was clean and comfortable. The bed was a little firm for my liking but not too bad. It appeared the room above ours (we were in 101) is the owner/manager residence. Could here every footstep all night long. Sounded like kids playing and running through the house. Multiple loud bumps through the night which awakened us.
The rooms were clean. Staff was friendly. Hot shower with great water pressure. Great location. Floors were laminate and cold. Needed more blankets. Towels were awful. P.E. kind of awful.
