Pros: Beautiful scenery, very nice guest kitchen and dining area, owner's son was very friendly at check in
Cons: Room was left with windows open and was very, very cold. Radiator did not turn on during night. Shower had very little water pressure. Could not get wifi to connect. (Caveat: we were only there 1 night and never contacted staff to remedy issues).
Our stay in Glencolumbcille was the highlight of our two week trip in Ireland. Do not miss this place! It is a hostel, but an upscale, immaculately clean one with hotel quality rooms and beds with ensuite bathrooms at hostel prices. The owners are absolute gems. We were meant to have a car, but the price quoted online quadrupled at the rental desk at the airport with insurance, so we decided to bus it instead. Paul and Sharon helped us sort out the busses put there via email, picked us up from the bus stop, dropped us in town for food and entertainment both nights (opt for Carrick rather than Glencolumbcille if you can- much better food and more vibrant atmosphere), AND drove us to and from Slieve League during the day! I can't say enough about this incredibly beautiful place and our hosts. The rest of Ireland literally paled in comparison.
Pros: The location in the world's most beautiful spot! And the unbelievable graciousness of the owners.
Cons: Absolutely nothing bad to say about this idyllic place.
Áras Ghleann Cholm Cille - Hostel offers an airport shuttle (available on request). Freebies like WiFi and self parking are added perks, and guests can keep active with onsite scuba diving. Rooms feature conveniences like kitchens, along with pillowtop beds and rainfall showerheads.
Parking was cramped. The hostess was friendly, but not 'on sight' The property is right in town with no yard, Very business area. Just not what I was expecting for the price. Breakfast was good. The gentleman serving hadn't combed his hair and looked quite disheveled. It was kind of cute, but not what you'd expect for a professional.
Pros: It was certainly close to town ! Maybe a little too close.
Cons: It was not a 'value add.' In other words, not what I expected for the cost, especially in comparison to other similarly priced B and B's. This is not a 'home' B and B, but more like a hotel. It was not as clean as it should be.
See comments above; also proximity to harbour& shops a bonus
Pros: Great hosts; comfortable bed in spacious room; wonderful breakfast. Also appreciated local knowledge & map of regional highlights. Definitely recommend.
