Pros: The staff at the **Heraklion** sixt was incredibly helpful, particularly when we got a flat tire shortly after a record-breaking storm on Crete. They not only allowed us to swap out the car with the flat for another car of similar or superior make/model, but they also lobbied on our behalf for this.Cons: The Chania sixt was the polar opposite of Heraklion, when we attempted to swap out our car there. Thankfully, the Heraklion rep called the Chania rep and sorted it out for us. Thank you Heraklion Sixt!
Pros: Friendly staff. I had trouble finding the dropoff in Heraklion city center (its a parking garage), but the staff at the office was very nice and accepted the car there.Cons: Long check in process.
Very good but receipt not yet gotPros: A receipt copy since as per agreement, I was to drop the car at a location different from the airport. However, they informed us that if we drop at the airport, I will be charged 22.3 EUR less. I would like to get a confirmation of the accurate charges

Drop off closed at airport, no good workaround presented.Pros: The rental office is a short walk from the airport terminal.Cons: The drop off of the car at the Heraklion airport was just mystifying. The office was not open so some one in a guard shack said "Park it over there and give me the keys." No papers were exchanged, no car condition checked, nothing.
Pros: That it was at the airportCons: Letting us know that it was at the airport and under Hertz, not Dollar. Also waited over 90 minutes for the car to be ready

Cons: Very easy to find rental lot and easy to return car to. Helpful staff.

Cant believe you actually printed a rental form!!Pros: Nothing!Cons: We arrived to Crete, there was no counter for Dollar, no person to take the invitation and the car pool was empty and closed! Can't believe I trusted you with my family! I ended up calling Dollar support and they said "there is suppose to be someone there" - bottom line - they have no clue!!! I tossed the invitation to the garbage and went to a local rental. Guess what!? Kayak gave me a 270 Euro proposal, not including car seats for the babies and the local gave me a 240 Euro *including car seats* This was just embracing for Dollar. Thankfully I haven't payed anything to Dollar. If I would, I would probably sew them by now! Never taking this company's services again.
Pros: Car was in good condition and good priceCons: When we arrived we were given a much bigger vehicle than requested as ours had been given away to someone else. ( we were late and called to tell. The staff that due to our ferry leaving late) No one was there to accept the car despite their website saying they were open for drop off

Pros: Staff was helpful and friendly. A smile and a friendly attitude toward the staff, in spite of flight delays and long lines and an airport terminal with no amenities, goes a long way. They've likely been dealing with grumpy, disheveled travelers all. Day. Long.Cons: My husband and I have twice rented twice from the Heraklion Airport location, and both times they have seemed understaffed... an extra employee or two would go a long way toward improving wait times and the overall customer experience.

HorriblePros: NothingCons: The car advertised was supposed to hold 5 and 5 bags. The car available- largest they had- held 4 and one bag. Could not accommodate our family. They said this was the fault of kayak, not enterprise. Obviously we could not take this car. We ended up in a much larger and better car from Hertz that was also substantially less expensive. Do not trust this site's description of vehicles overseas!!!
Pros: Clean new car good service Confusing to find car at first but once located A good service

Stiffed with additional charges for slight flight delayPros: Not muchCons: We were delayed and arrived 1hr and 15mins later at 11.15 and were forced to pay a late arrival fee, because it was after 10pm.
Pushy & RudeCons: Lady checking us in was pushy and rude. The car’s power steering belt was loose and would often squeak loudly

Avoid this Europcar officeCons: Avoid this Europcar office. Like a previous reviewer, they also gave me the hard sell on the insurance (when I already had my own coverage). As for the car, they supposedly gave me an upgrade to a larger one (I actually deliberately requested a smaller car for the narrow roads of Crete and I explained that to them). The larger car turned out to be a total mess. The car already had scrapes and scratches all over, the rubber moulding around the driver's side door was falling out, the light on the passenger door was falling out, and after driving around 25km the check engine light came on with a message to get the engine serviced. When I returned it at night-time, they went over the car in detail with a flashlight and blamed me for one of the scratches which was already there (among the many scrapes). I don't think they gave me the "upgrade" out of kindness ...

The worst rental service I ever encounteredCons: DO NOT RENT FROM EUROPCAR IN CRETE!! EVER! Upon arrival to rent the car, the representative wanted to sell us their own insurance for the car, at 220 EUR. As I already purchased insurance from Kayak, I informed the representative that I don't need their insurance. He started arguing on this, and informed that that I will need to pay 2500 EUR deposit for the car in this case, because they don't recognize the insurance I bought, even though I showed him all the documents, and as far as he is concerned I have no insurance, and therefore I need to deposit 2500 EUR. After some back and forth discussions, in which he continued to try to force me to buy their insurance, which I refused, I finally agreed to deposit 2500 EUR. Then upon checking back, he said that he can't accept that, and now he needs 4000 EUR for the deposit. At this point I was very upset, and didn't agree to go along with it. Then the representative told me that in this case they don't want to rent the car to me at all. Without any choice, I agreed to pay their 220 EUR for the insurance, paying double for insurance, but then the representative continued on the same stand and didn't want to rent the car to me. He used additional representatives over the phone and others to convince me that suddenly they don't have this car available for me, and used some lame excuse saying that I was late to the counter for more than an hour (because a delay in the flight). Eventually I couldn't continue to rent the car there. I went to other car rentals, one by one, and with luck Avis had the car that I needed for the duration for my vacation. I ended up paying almost 400 EUR more for the rental, and of course the insurance I bought from Kayak was unused. This was a terrible experience. My family had to wait for 2 hours until this issue was resolved, we missed lunch at the hotel, had a very bad start to our vacation, and only with luck we found the car we needed. The horrible representative's name is Anthony. I wouldn't recommend anyone to use Europcar in Crete at all. They provided the worst service possible.

Absolutely terriblePros: NothingCons: Upon arrival I tried to pick up my rental. The lady working the Europcar desk told me that since I did not have an “international drivers license” I was not allowed to rent a car from Europcar. Absolutely at NO TIME was I ever informed of this requirement. I’ve traveled to many countries and have never even heard of an “international drivers license.” Completely insane. Also, it was 11 PM and we were 2.5 hours away from our hotel. She did not care at all. Fortunately I was able to walk to enterprise and easily rent a car without an “international drivers license.” If I didn’t know any better I’d say she chose not to rent a car to me once she found out I was American. Never will try to rent from this pathetic company again.

International driver's licensePros: Staff was friendly and apologetic about this new enforcement issueCons: Apparently, in greece now the government is pushing for international driver's license before rental. Never needed it before so, maybe large highlighted warning notices should be displayed when renting on your site.

Worse car experience everPros: Absolutely nothingCons: Attitude of staff at the time of hiring and return The actual car was a disgrace, the gear change was so 'loose' my wife couldn't drive it, underpowered The car radios controls had been painted out so couldn't see what to do to use it Staff on return were very aggressive

Beware of staff - they engage in hard sell of CDWCons: I have an annual CDW excess insurance. On arrival at he Europecar desk I was rudely told that my insurance wouldn't cover any damage to the vehicle outside of an accident with another vehicle. When I asked how he knew this without reading the insurance schedule he continued to assert his position. When I acquiesced and purchased the Europecar insurance at €20 a day ( for which I received no schedule of coverage) his mood changed. I believe I was scammed. I will contacting Europcar directly about staff conduct.

Beware in Crete - company is online only and fake!Cons: Took forever to find because they actually don’t exist in Crete. Then their contract is null and void because you are renting w a whole other company with different rules. Result is that I wasted 3 hours and then spent 4 more hours on a bus. Wasted a whole day because this fake rental company
