Pros: Ruth was very friendly, accommodating and helpful. The room had a nice view of the garden and was spacious with lots of storage and a safe. The shower had hot water and good water pressure. Breakfast included a delicious fruit salad, eggs, bread, real coffee, and fresh juice. Laundry service was $1.50 per kilo and was delivered a few hours later, clean, dry and folded. Housekeeping was amazing, we left the room pretty messy and came back to a spotless and organized room. The hostel is located 0.6 miles away from the bus terminal. It is also pretty close to the historic district. I believe it also has free vehicle off-street parking.

Cons: Cold rooms with no heating and only a few minutes of hot water in the showers. Promise of an invoice, but never received it. When checking-out, it was promised to be ready, which it wasn’t. We were told we would receive it by e-mail, which we haven’t. The hotel itself is hard to find, as there are no signs out front. You have to call the hotel upon arrival, so they can let you in.

Pros: La Casa Azul exceeded my expectations in every way. It’s super quiet because it’s located in a residential area, but close to restaurants (two are located right on the premises). It’s like a home away from home and super immaculate. I was greeted by the owners, Juan and Paquita, and they were extremely helpful. My room was spacious with a queen-size bed, the most comfortable pillows I’ve ever slept on, and a tastefully decorated room with an alcove for reading. Everything had a designer touch, including all the throw pillows. The bathroom was super clean with soft, fluffy towels, modern shower with lots of hot water, and toiletries. I also had access to the kitchen downstairs to make tea or coffee. There’s a refrigerator, stove top, and microwave as well. I spent the night to take care of a writing deadline in total peace and tranquility (mission accomplished!). In addition, for $4.00 extra you can enjoy a delicious breakfast with fresh fruit, juice, toast, eggs, coffee or tea. I would definitely recommend staying at La Casa Azul and look forward to spending the night when I have another writing deadline! Room tip: I stayed in room #4, which was spacious and very quiet.

(thin walls) Price was not exactly as stated in booking. com, through which the room was rented. At booking.com the price included all taxes, but the hotel wanted to add them at time of payment. Payment only in cash was a bit complicated as well.

Cons: lt is still a work in progress, many of the features mentioned on the website are not quite accurate, for example, shared kitchen or terrace with bar. yes there is a shared kitchen, but only available to some of the rooms and I only found out about it because I asked about it. It has very little in the way of cooking equipment. there is not a shared lounge for the whole place, basically there are two 'apartments' each consisting of two or three rooms, a bathroom, and a tiny lounge area. The terrace exists but is still in the process of being developed and is not usable yet. I didn't expect to have a 'shared' bathroom. Actually I didn't have to share because no one else was there, but this was not mentioned in the room description. The rooms are fine but some of the furniture is a bit rickety. The hosts are too chatty at times- it's nice to be friendly but not appropriate to share your life story and problems with your guests. Basically this is more of a homestay, and the description on booking.com is a vision of what the host wants it to be. I would stay here again, but don't book it if you want a 'hostel' experience/environment.

Pros: Free breakfast was good
Cons: The first night everything seemed OK but the next night the host had a party with some of the guests; unfortunately the layout of the building channels the noise straight from the common area to the rooms. It sounded like they were right outside our door. At 01:30 I went down and asked them to turn down the music (which was at full volume), and they did, but a short while later it was back up again. I tried to sleep, then finally at 6am went down again to find the host alone in the common room, music again at full volume, and had to argue with him to get him to turn it down again. After sleeping until about 11am, I packed and left (a day earlier than planned, one of my three days in Cuenca now lost as I had to find a new place), and paid for one night only. The host became extremely aggressive, grabbing me repeatedly and taking off his jacket, telling me he was going to fight me. In the end I was forced to pay for the second night to get him to back off, and he was trying to insist I should pay for the whole three nights.

Cons: The hostal was very dirty. We had to ask if they could clean our room after 2 nights, which they then did but apparently it was not standard. Kitchen was really dirty, they did not empty the compost bin daily and therefore it was smelly. The hostal was full of posters dictating what was forbidden in the hostal. Breakfast was basic, bread was one day really old and coffee tasted like tea. Also many things were broken, for example toilet flush (luckily there was a poster that commands you to check if it stopped flushing...) and towel bar.

Pros: Simple but tasty breakfast. Lively atmosphere and really cool staff and volunteers. The receptionist had excellent music taste. Very fluffy cat. The hostel has very pleasant outside areas with seating space and hammocks. If you are lucky, you might get a room on the second floor that has an amazing lamp with adjustable atmospheric colors, which is also a Bluetooth speaker
Cons: It might be chilly inside due to the altitude in Cuenca (the shower is super warm though). Take in consideration that you should have appropriate clothes. The room could have some hangers to keep your stuff

Pros: breakfast was fine, the owner nice and kind it is easier to say: everthing was very nice. the only negative thing is that the bathroom is mostly occupied when the hostel is fully booked. it will be perfect with one more bathroom.

Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful. There were lots of nice little places in the hostel to relax in a hammock or chat around a table, and the beds were nice and comfortable. A lovely place that we would stay in again.
Cons: While we enjoyed our stay, our bathroom was a little grubby and didn't seem very thoroughly cleaned in areas like the floor outside the shower and behind doors. However, the staff seemed happy to help and would probably solve this issue for anyone raising it.

Cons: Room too small, not worth the price. It looks like there is a misunderstanding with the personal of the hotel because this is a per friendly hotel, but when I got there, the staff was very surprised that they have never seen a dog inside. At The door entrance there is this speaker that says “welcome” every time and it begins to feel annoying. The water from the shower was not hot enough and it stuck like a pool, very gross.
