What are the pros of staying at Okidoki Cusco Hostal?
The staff here is incredible. Amazing service, comfortable beds and great location. Great place to make lifelong friends. The beds are very comfortable and there's a couple of members of staff that are absolutely lovely and always greet you with a smile. The place is so clean! Breakfast is served beautifully. The staff is adorable and treats you like family. The bed is comfy and they give you many blankets. The staff were friendly, use of the kitchen until 10pm, breakfast was included. Standard Peruvian fare, dry bread, jam, and each day something different I.e. a glass of juice, an avocado or a slice of omelette. Very welcoming and helpful staff, nice breakfast! Friendly staff, possibility to leave luggage there while going on a multi-day hike. Warm blankets and warm water available. A very nice hostel in a good location. Extremely helpful staff. A good travel agency next door- we took a jungle trip and a Rainbow Mountain tour. Nice kitchen and shared living room. Hot water in a shower. Everything we needed was at the property. The staff was super friendly, and did not hesitate to help. The kitchen and included breakfast were nice too. Friendliness, cleanliness, Price. The owner truly cares about her guests, I got sick and they took care of me as if I was a family member.
What are the cons of staying at Okidoki Cusco Hostal?
Wifi didn’t work in our room. Very noisy and no door entry means doorbells keep you up all night. There's no heating in the room so it can be really cold. They take advantage of their volunteers, they're supposed to have 2 days off a week but when they arrive the staff tell them they have to work 6 days. Doesn't affect the guests but it's scammy and I wouldn't want to give them any more of my money with an attitude like that. You have to buzz to get in every time which is loud for other guests and can leave you out in the rain for a while if no one hears you. The internet is absolutely trash, cuts out if there's a mild wind and doesn't reach all the rooms. Some of the rooms at the front are so loud you can't sleep. There's a traffic light right outside the hostel and people honk as soon as it turns green. All hours. The kitchen isn't very well stocked and the pans are all pretty broken/scratched. They charge you for towels for the bathroom and don’t tell you that at check-in or on the website. The shower/bathroom was unisex and you couldn’t lock the door. The bathroom doesn't have place to put own stuff when you take a shower. The breakfast can't fit the time if you leave early. The bathroom don't have enough place to put stuffs, the location is a bit far from the center. There was a roof skylight inside the room so it was always bright inside the room. Also it was right next to the street so it was very noisy. Traffic in Cusco is crazy. The bathroom is shared and it has only 1 support for clothes and it is too open. I wasn't comfortable inside and my boyfriend told me the same about the male one. It's an old property so you'll hear the noise of the house when someone walks in the middle of the night. Also the Wifi is not great. The facilities could have been a bit cleaner and there was a period of time that the gentlemen's bathroom shower was unavailable and also no toilet paper. Fortunately though, there was another mixed bathroom that could be used instead. The double room with balcony and street view is quite noisy due to the continuous street traffic as well as common room which is very close to it. The peace of the night is respected but if you are tired of journey and would like to rest earlier you might find it hard. Booked a double room one week in advance and the night before we got the message that it’s not available for the first night and we had to change to a dorm room. The kitchen is not very well equipped and cannot be used until noon or at night, which is annoying when getting up early or getting home late after a hike. To reach the bathroom you have to go outside, which can be cold at night. The mattress of the beds were awful. Waking up every day with back pain. If they change them this hostel would be perfect. Some curtains in the dorm would be great also. The owner truly cares about her guests, I got sick and they took care of me as if I was a family member. Handwashing laundry is banned. Staff is really distant. No place to change your clothes in the shower. Very bad WiFi in some of the rooms. We booked our last night directly from them and it was more expensive than booking (that said it would be cheaper). No curtains on the windows so we see light very early in the morning. The mattress of the beds were awful. Waking up every day with back pain. If they change them this hostel would be perfect. Some curtains in the dorm would be great also. The beds are hard and uncomfortable and we spent half an hour trying to get inside the hostel at 12:30 am one night. We rang the bell the whole time, but the door stayed locked and nobody heard the bell. Another guest woke up the sleeping staff after a while. We were assured beforehand that the reception was always manned. Only one of the staff could speak English. It was a very cold place, but for the price is comfortable. At night it was so loud we couldn’t sleep, because of the cars driving and honking. Also shower was cold. The stream in shower was weak, also the showers were divided to small cabins. Wifi was really poor. It was very noisy at night and the light in room was buzzing. The kitchen is only available from 12p.m. The bathroom is quite small and drying after a shower could be quite cold if you do it in the evening as you need to go through the courtyard.
