The leisure facilities make a huge difference to my visits. The variability of the room prices from week to week.
It's a lovely historic building with beautiful grounds & there were lots of rabbits & squirrels. Excellent value for money. The breakfast was very good. The carpet on the landing in the bedroon annexe had seen better days.
the rooms are always clean and warm the delay in checking in and checking out. the charge for the breakfast. the credit card fee (£2.50) is bordering on profiteering.
Response to repeated failures of room keys was oustanding - and the only reason I will consider coming again.
The location, it was easy to get the park and ride into Oxford but Abingdon and Didcott are all close by. Easy access to the A34. The gym is very small and doesn't have any weight lifting equipment which wasn't clear when booking. Most of the rooms are in a separate building to the main house and reminded me of council flats. Although we were "upgraded" to the main house when we complained, there was no internet access in our room and it wasn't as picturesque as I had imagined. The food was also very average. I was generally very underwelmed by the hotel.
Good location, comfortable room. food so bad I thought I was at a beefeater! Real 1990's style pub fayre, yet the cheapest glass of wine was almost £7.Certainly didn't live up to the De Vere brand.
Set in beautiful grounds. Hotel provided excellent facilities Bedroom was in seperate block and although comfortable needs to be redecorated.
The reception and bar were beautifully decorated. The room was clean and comfortable. Dining and leisure facilities were disappointing.
Coffee & tea making facilities in room Walk from lobby to bar
Leisure facilities good The restaurant was one of the worst I have encountered. Starters and sweets were pre prepared; Main course poor. No excuse, only one other couple in the restaurant. Seemed to be concentrating on theme groups and wedding parties. Complaint form submitted on departure.
The rooms were of excellent quality - beautifully decorated, great furniture, extremely confortable bed and gallons of hot water. Salina, the host, was also very warm and hospitable and went out of her way to make us feel welcome. And the icing on the cake was waking up to a fantastic breakfast. Thanks for a short but wonderful stay. Nick & Agnes - London No bad points
Friendly greeting by owner with a very welcome cup of coffee, despite there being ample coffee/tea in the room, very spacious room spotlessly clean, very quiet qnd peaceful, (ideal after a hectic day) Excellent breakfast freshly cooked, When I was asked if I was enjoying my meal and did I want more, it was very genuine, unlike the command "enjoy" which unfortuanatly is the "buzz word" for the corparate establishments None whatsoever
Lovely location, fantastic room, the owner couldn't have been more welcoming, breakfast great! No bad points
Great Place . Convenient .Great Hosts. Food Excellent N/A
The room exceeded my expectations, hostess was friendly and helpful and service was first class. Very clean.
A superb hotel with friendly owners in a great position for visiting Oxford. All round five star performance.
Large bedroom. Very well furnished. spotlessly clean. Excellent breakfasts. Good en-suite. Shower over bath, plenty of hot water, but had to run cold tap for quite a while before water was cold. No Lounge. Access to shower in bath awkward for the not so young. a more generous supply of soap and shower gel would have been appreciated.
welcomed with coffee by the owner, rooms well maintained and spacious. Breakfast very good and the owner met our request for an early breakfast.
The bedroom and bathroom were both finished and appointed to a very high standard. The rural location is beautfull within easy walking distance of the River Thames. None
Very friendly people, excellent breakfast, and it was easy to commute by train to oxford No complaints
Cleanliness of bed linen. Towels clean and white. shower that worked very well. good breakfast. walls in the room needed the cobwebs dusted off and the curtain could do with a wash.
It was local to where I needed to be. Some of the staff were friendly. Other staff were a bit off specially at breakfast time. Guests had to make their own tea and coffee. I had to clean hair from the plugholes, in the basin and bathroom of our room.
Probably the most comfortable bed on earth, really peaceful surroundings, friendly kind staff, and not a bad pint either! Breakfast was nice, good service. Would definitely stay there again.
The staff were excellent. They were lovely to our daughter and made us feel very welcome.
A small but very clean room. They need someone like the hotel inspector to call and sort them out. A very poor quality breakfast served on white linen. Toast served on same plate with the breakfast. No fruit, poor choice of cereals. Carton of orange juice on table.
indian restaurant on site street light directly above skylight directly above bed
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - the B&B is also a pub with good beer/ale selection so for dinner we ate in and the food was very good. Breakfast also good. Staff very helpful and courteous. Will stay there again. Easy 15-min. drive to the Park-and-Ride for frequent buses into Oxford. Well worth staying in the countryside. One comment only: Bit difficult finding the Inn as our GPS (Garmin 750 with up-to-date European maps) search did not find "Station Road" in Culham but we found the B&B using the GPS Lat/Long coordinates provided by the B&B in the Bookings.com advertisement - very clever. Nevertheless, a GPS is invaluable and a must when travelling in Britain! Using a conventional map to locate the B&B is not a problem.
Nothing in pareticular The building had been converted on a budget with poor quality finishes. Access was via a steep external staircase and over a flat roof with no guard rail to the low parapet. The final exit door was secured with a dead lock that needed a key to open from the inside. None of this complies with the current building regulations.
Friendly staff, clean modern rooms No
£40 per night bnb for two was good value for a small ensuite room. Good fry up for breakfast. Good parking. Comfy bed. Noisey. Very near train station and freight trains go all night. 18Th Party in marquee ended just after midnight but expected it to go on longer. Only Sugar Puffs for breakfast cereal, no muesli etc
Good food and friendly and helpful staff
Friendly pub with good food in a lovely location. Excellent breakfast.
Friendliness of staff. Excellent food. Catered very well with my husband's vegan diet.Varied menu. Lovely old building.Good geographical location for tourism.
Lovely quiet location, staff were very friendly, helpful & flexible. Good food which was nicely presented. I might suggest more choice for breakfast (such as fish, different types of cereals/ yogurt) although staff again were very accomodating and provided full English breakfast which was scrummy.
The food and friendliness of staff was excellent. The location was also very good for walking and exploring the nearby countryside. Not much to dislike really apart from some areas of the establishment looking a little tired, but this was more than made up for by the staff, food and surroundings.
Secure parking The food.
Location to where l wanted to fish the room was very clean and the staff very helpful and the food was excellent. none
The food was excellent. Church bell rang every fifteen minutes throughout the night! Room was very cold, even with the heating on! Chipped sink and a mixture of odd furniture in the room.
I stayed in the Chantry room - large, comfortable bed, proper linen and power shower. What more could you want? Straightforward, very nice inn with good beer in the bar and a good breakfast.
It was very quiet and the food was tasty I thought the breakfast should have started earlier than 8am
The restaurant, food and bar. Location very pleasant. Unpleasant odour of dampness (or dogs perhaps) in the bedroom corridors.
Hotel was extremely tired and in dire need of updating. Food in restaurant was expensive and extremely poor quality. Complaints were not handled efficiently.
I chose it for the location. Noisy room, above kitchens. Bathroom grubby and very tired, towels frayed and should have been thrown away.
the food was good
Warm welcome on arriving back late at night. Breakfast was poor.
As I knew I was going to returm late I asked about getting back in and was told about a back door fire escape entrance. This was OK but I'm not sure what woud have happened if I had not asked.
Very comfortable room Restaurant menu is rather traditional, limited choice.
Accessibility to Oxford. Direct accessibility to the River Thames. Location to Wallingford and adjacent open countryside/Thames path, etc. Room facilities very tired/worn. Window surrounds in need of cleaning and maintenance. Signs of dampness/mould in bathroom.
The views of the river Thames was at its best with the later part of autumn still in view The cost of drinks were higher than anywhere else in the area, hence the empty bar.
Friendly, Welcoming and curtious. Lovely venue, good location, easy to find and good food. None
Very pleasant owners, very good Chinese dinner, very good breakfast, beautiful small Thamesside village.
Quiet clean room
John, the owner, is the most friendly host we met during our holiday in the Cotswalds.
The Plough Inn was situated in a beautiful location. The room we stated in (double room with the four poster bed) was beautiful and the shower was amazing! The staff we very friendly and we enjoyed a quiet drink in the bar at night with a sociable atmosphere. It's obvious that the owners love their job! It was lovely to have the option of a late breakfast. The only improvement would be a better selection of cereals for breakfast. Perhaps a muesli or porridge.
Welcoming and friendly atmosphere, great food, superb room and a wonderful host. None
The people who run the hotel and pub are fantastic, and the food is really good.
Clean, well-heated and ventilated room and bathroom. Excellent, freshly- cooked breakfast. Good value restaurant (Chinese). Accommodating staff. No real bad points although access to rooms - either via pub and restaurant or poorly-lit side door from garden - is not ideal.
Clean, efficient, flexible
Like many others they use too many sprays in the rooms to mask other smells. My father in law who has asthma had difficulty with this.
Very comfortable and welcoming, Nothing I disliked at all but more than I would normally pay, for the price I would expect better TV etc in rooms.
Friendly staff and very relaxed atmosphere Breakfast service was a bit slow and disorganised
The quality of the food was excellent The grounds are less extensive than lead to believe
The staff and welcome was very proffesional and friendly , a very personal touch and an enjoyable stay.
peace and quiet pillows and no fruit for breakfast
Friendly and warm reception, made to feel at ease. Lovely and interesting grounds to wander in. Liked the eco and organic approach to food but did not have the opportunity to visit the interesting restaurant. Seems an ideal place for wedding receptions. Will make a longer stay when in area next. Tiny niggle, duvet a bit heavy for summer comfort!
The organic food. The surroundings especially the vegetable garden and flowers. My room was very cold, but I was provided with a convector heater. However I didn't feel I could leave it on overnight.
The Gourmet Dining Menu and sourced quality ingredients used. More importantly the luxurious, spacious rooms and especially room service available from before breakfast and well after dinner has been served. If preferred, you could eat all meals in your room. We had Lambourn (Room 9) but floor shook occasionally and vibrated from below, where the kitchen is situated with frequency of a door being banged open. When trying to relax and read this almost became intolerable.
This is really a little gem of a find. Lovely locally produced food and really comfortable and relaxing surroundings. I would highly recommend afternoon tea and cake by the fire. Hotel staff warm and friendly, The restaurant staff were very professional, however cold, distant and to the point. It would have been nicer to have had some more interaction
Excellent restaurant - both for dinner and breakfast. Loose toilet seat and flush did clear the bowl. Retaurant toilet (male) cubicle awash with urine.
Most convenient for purpose.
Towels and flannels were lovely.plenty of storage in room. Courtyard was very pleasant .welsh girl on reception was lovely
Nice room No bar available
The room was clean and very nice. Having the trouser press plus an iron and ironing board available in the room, yet out of sight was very good and useful. The lounge area off the reception was cosy and we used this a few times. We had a bar meal at lunch time which was not very good, this put us off staying at the hotel for an evening meal, however the beakfast on Sunday morning was excellent.
The receptionist was very nice and helpful when we booked in, and it was convenient to where we wanted to go. The service in the restaurant on Friday evening was awful as the computer system had crashed and we had to go up to the bar all the time to place our orders for each course. The windows in the room would not open more than an inch, I am aware of Health and Safety regulations but this was taking it too far. There was a fan in the room but was not powerful enough to make any difference to the heat,as a result we did not sleep very much on either night.
Clean Spacious room Would have been over charged by a considerable amount if we hadn't had our booking paperwork with us. Short staffed so breakfast problems.
The room was large comfortable and clean An embarrassing fuss was made at check in over my internet booking which included breakfast but was queried by three members of staff, including the manager, who did not feel the price should have included breakfast. This happened again the following day when the rest of my family checked in. I had booked four rooms in total but was asked to use my debit card for each individual transaction whereas the internet booking had given me a total figure to pay for all four rooms. I also booked a table in the restaurant for 8.30pm but our main course did not arrive until 10.10pm by which time the two young children in our party were asleep.
