The bed was comfortable, and the bedroom was clean. Our room was directly over the bar, but it was not noisy. The three members of staff we met were friendly.
The bathroom smelt faintly of sewage – possibly because the toilet had a macerator. The sink and mirror were positioned in a corner so tight that you couldn't really stand in front of them unless you were Twiggy. The radiator was full on, and could not be turned off. It was a problem the barmaid was already aware of when we mentioned it to her in the evening, but nothing had been done to rectify it. Her solution was to open the window wide. When we tried opening the left-hand sash window, it turned out to be rotten on one side and we were lucky that it didn't fall out. The right-hand window opened satisfactorily – but it meant that the traffic noise from the street outside was quite intrusive. The tv was tiny and none of the channels was properly tuned. The barmaid tried to improve the reception, without much success. Finally - and I really don't mean to carp – I cannot understand why hotels provide a ration of just two teabags per person per night. It is not as if teabags are expensive. If you advertise that there are tea- and coffee-making facilities in the room, you should provide a reasonable supply of tea and coffee.

The staff were friendly and helpful. They allocated an "upgraded" double room ensuite when they discovered that my booking had not been noted in their paper diary. The breakfast was great.
None - it was as advertised

The Ardmillan was conveniently located for our visit to our daughter. Also, it was a good bargain, it worked out to 56 pounds a night. The cooked breakfast was very good.
The en suite bathroom was tiny and awkward, and although I expect small bathrooms in converted houses, this bathroom was the most awkward I've seen.
