The location was great. The breakfast was even better. All in all a great stay. n/a
We loved the location and the breakfast was first class, cooked to order too. The bedroom was on the small side.
the location is perfect and a beautiful old building also the bathroom was really awful
Very comfortable and well and conveniently situated in the town. Did not find one of the check in people very friendly.
Have stayed here before and found it a pleasant and convenient place to stay in Shrewsbury. Will most likely be back again in the New Year. Thank you
The reception staff in particular were very helpful
Location and external appearance. Cracks in the tiles; holes in the walls; dank view of the internal courtyard. Before I stayed at the hotel I believed it was a three-star going on four, but now I know it's going on two. Time for a total internal refurbishment...
Good breakfast and excellent meal at Chambers The car parking arrangements
Helpful staff. Good food in the restaurants. Being rushed through dinner as there was a large party in.
good food bath room a little small
The toilet seat had broken,we didn't like to complain!!also no staff when we went to the bar near the reception twice!!!once on our arrival then around 5 30 pm!!!it would be nice to have a pint in the hotel instead of going across the court yard!!!we stay here often!!!
Canal-side setting, attractive and interesting
Everything. Air conditioning unit just a little too loud.
The location was lovely. I haad a lovely walk along the canal in the Autumn sunshine One of my guests in another room changed room as the room had apparently been used, also another guest had used towels when they checked in.
Room comfort, Leisure facilities and view from room N/A
The room was very comfortable with beautiful views over the canal and the countryside. The spa was superb with a huge range of treatments on offer and helpful friendly staff. We had an excellent meal in the restaurant with local ingredients. Although the food was excellent, the restaurant staff did not seem well trained, eg they did not return with requested items, nor did they ask or anticipate whether anything was needed.
My wife and myself enjoyed a relaxing spa and then a wonderful meal in the hotel restaurant. The hotel facalities are excellent. Rooms are nice without going over the top. Bar Prices are good value. If the hotel can maintain these prices it will do very well.
Very nice indeed We would have like to have dined in the bridge rest# rather than in the bar
The views from the window over the Llangollen Canal were nice. Staff friendly. Found it hard to get to grips with the air conditioning. Having manually turned it off it came on again automatically.
The relaxed atmosphere, the food was first class. Friendly staff on hand. I loved the pool and spa.A very good 4 star hotel. I would have liked a map to find my room. Im terrible at directions and kept getting lost. Maybe have some landmark pictures. Go left at the Picasso sort of thing.
The receptionist ( training to be a clinical psychologist ) was the most smiley ideal receptionist and of course gave the most wonderful first impression.Other staff excellent ,good breakfast and inclusive use of the spa is terrific value.will come again. The electric storeage heater in room 60 was not particularly efficient
The spa facilities were very good On the whole the hotel staff all gave poor service
The room overall was very good plenty of space. The decor was to a high standed. The shower was poor, breakfast was not the best! the tv in the room should be updated.
On Arrival the Hotel was well presented Room was nice, However the bathroom was dirty, mould / discolured around the bath and shower screen quite off putting. Sorry
In ownn grounds, pool and gym, friendly and helpful staff
use of the spa facilities really creaky floors
Dinner Bar staff and poor service there
Tucked away Staff in Restaurant wore "grey" shirts which originally would have been white. If the table cloths can be a bright white why can't you put the staff's white shirts in the same wash?
As a wedding function was held that evening a party followed in the corridor and in adjacent bedrooms until 3am (yes!!! 3 in the morning) which made it very difficult to get any sleep. Other residents complained loudly and the hotel management were nowhere to be seen. I will not stay at this hotel again!!!!!
Great location, right in the centre of Llangollen with fab view of the river. My room was nicely decorated, spacious and warm. Very pleasant dining room and breakfast was good. Private parking area that was locked at night. Some parts of the hotel are still shabby, needing refurbishing.
The view over the River Dee was stunning! A pleasure to wake up to. The staff were lovely and really helpful, and the hotel was clean, well kept and full of charm. My only comment would be to suggest double glazing for the windows for energy saving purposes.
Hearing the sound of the river from the bedroom was a real treat. I felt the bathroom could have been improved by new flooring, the general appearance of the room was good but this one point did spoil the otherall pleasure.
Only problem was the use of non-fair-trade coffee in the room. Please don't use nestle products!
Lovely room overlooking the river.
The rooms ver lovely and clean and the staff very accomodating
friendly staff Some parts need redecoration
Views and spacious room No lift!! Lots of stairs to everything. Very slippy bathroom floor
It was an attractive old and historic hotel. The hotel staff were courteous, helpful and friendly. The rooms were nicely decorated and the bathroom had been modernised. The bedroom was nicely warm due to a fan heater being provided. It was a cold day/night and the public areas of the hotel were extremely cold, particularly the dining room and the passageways - all the radiators were turned off. The shower did not work which I did mention in the morning and they were very apologetic.
The location of the hotel was fantastic, the rooms clean and very comfortable and staff excellent
The hotel was comfortable and good value for money. TV signal intermittent. Could not watch TV for most of the evening.
Deluxe rooms were great! Breakfast good. Very easy to find
The hotel is extremely welcoming, with easy access from the main road. On entering the hotel the decor is very pleasent and clean, and the rooms nice and warm - very necessary with the snow outside during our visit. Use of the leisure facilities at Lion Quays was a real bonus.
The room was excellent, we stayed in a deluxe room. The breakfast and evening meal was delicious. We stayed here as it was a great base for xmas shopping at Chester and Shrewsbury.
Quiet A facility to install a child safety gate on the mezzanine stairs would have been really helpful
helpful staff/value for money
Welcome was strange (to say the least) - "I wouldn't have let the room go for this price" said the man on reception - very welcoming! After that things improved. Nice large room good sized bed (though very soft for me) and a nice bathroom. Quiet location and very good breakfast for £5 each, The rather strange welcome. The very soft bed.
Swimming pool at sister hotel and brewkfast
Friendly and helpful staff at reception
The room layout was good for families. Breakfast included was great. Help from the assistant at the front desk was useful and professional.
The restaurnat staff werer both efficient and friendly - the food was nicely presented and well cooked Not really - the floor boards creaked - but the place is after all very old...this was charming, really. But could disturb other guests etc in the adjoinng rooms!
Good Food, Clean Room, Friendly Staff
The choice of lounges, restaurants, bars. We also enjoyed the breakfasts, and found all of the staff pleasant and helpful. The bedroom was outdated (regardless of the old character of the hotel) and parking was difficult. Possibly, locals use the parking facilities on a Saturday and there were no spaces left for hotel guests.
Very friendly hotel staff, good food. some of the decor is very tired
Very comfy bed Large Bath Log fire in Lounge Excellent breakfast
We liked the comfortable bed and the downstairs rooms especially the big open fireplace. The breakfasts were really lovely. Our room was at the front next to the busy road so was very noisy at times.
Service was friendly and unobstrusive, there was plenty of comfortable lounge area for both quiet and socialising with guests etc. It was central for our purpose and had a carpark.
its location right in the centre of town. walking distance to everything we needed. free parking.
warm with big open fires, town centre location with car parking Poor selection of wine, drinks very expensive
locality to pricey. carpark bill, plus breakfast to be paid for.was going to stay here in Nov but booked another hotel.would only stay here if on offers as before
staff made my stay very agreable and pleasant.
The hotel was excellent, the rooms were superb, the bar/reception areas were airy and bright really nice. The staff couldn't have been more helpful particularly the receptionist Donna.
lovely modern spacious room
Hotel room was very modern and all in all was a great stay over. Bar opening Hours - surely residents should be allowed to drink at the bar past 10pm?
really helpfull freindly staff, I thought the bar area could have been a little more like a bar,it felt very cafe like.
friendly staff, excellent food ,clean and comfortable rooms
The hotel was clean and modern, easy to find and situated just off teh main road from Shrewsbury to Chester, ideal for teh local area and facilities but also a handy base if exploring the north wales mountains. Reception was polite, courteous and helpful. we were upgraded to a higher spec room at no additional cost. very enjoyable stay.
Medium sized, intimate, friendly hotel with helpful staff. it was immaculately clean as were the fixtures and fittings, also the bar and restaurant areas, food was excellent also
Good size room with friendly, helpfull staff. Easy to find location with excellent links to motorways
Excellent staff, excellent facilities, no fault in any way
The service was excellent and very welcoming, they could not do enough for you. The room was excellent, very clean and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was delicious and you could choose what ever you wanted. There were not any bad points.
It was conveniently located and had a relaxing atmosphere. As above re leisure centre also some of the furnishings are looking tired!
It was convenient desk staff were helpful. No mini bar, en-suit far too small, Table light didn't work, TV didn't work properly, window had to be fully open or closed; unless propped up with bottle. No bar or snacks mid afternoon. I was only there one night so didn't bother; too costly
Excellent service and super breakfast. Comfortable clean rooms beautifully decorated. The hotel could do with a lift as my elderly mother struggled to get up to the third floor.
The friendly service
Excellent location, in town centre and close to countryside. Comfortable bar/lounge area. The room (216) was quite small and very hot. Radiator valve was very stiff to operate. Even when closed completely the room was hot. Very little drawer space in the room for clothes, only a cupboard with hangers. Bar prices...£3.80 for a glass of wine?
An old but comfortable hotel that provided just what a traveller needed for a short stay, neat, tidy and well staffed.
friendly, small, good value, tv services could be better
The staff were very friendly & polite. The food was of excellent quality. Nothing
hotel in good position, stayed in the laura ashley suite, nice room, very clean and an excellent breakfast, thanks for a lovely stay. nothing
Good location, close to shops, restaurants and attractions but on a quiet(ish) road; easy to come and go when we wanted and a car park nearby. Service a bit uninspired; certainly not the friendliest hotel we have stayed in. Decor a bit tired and old fashioned.
Very central setting. Welcoming owners. Parking is an issue in the mornings
Queit cozy place but within few minutes of town square. Family-run informality, excellent breakfast. The breakfast window of 8-9 on a Sunday was too early, too short. The room cleaners also worked only till 11 on Sunday which was surprising.
The bathroom tiles and the wifi I found the brekfast staff unpleasant. It seemed as if he didn't want to be there - he keep banging the plates and cups about - in fact another breakfaster commented upon this. He was quite grumpy. Maybe he should look for a new job. The cleaning lady and the young girl were much nicer.
I only stayed one night, but my overall impression was of an efficiently run hotel. There was nothing I disliked.
Friendly greeting on arrival, comfortable room and a great breakfast.Would stay again.
situation, very convenient could do with a few finishing touches
Clean and tidy, staff helpful and friendly No Parking, tv reception was poor.
Comfortable bed. Lots of clean white towels. Interesting old building. Handy for river. Noisy (near building site and pubs). Instant coffee with breakfast. Lots of stairs to climb with suitcase. Overpowering "air fresheners". No thermostat on radiator. Owner not particularly friendly.
The room was very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent.
None There wasn't any hot water when I used the shower. On arrival we ordered some tea and coffee, as we were too early to check in, and had to wait nearly 30 minutes for it. I felt this wasn't really acceptable considering I had been driving for almost 3 hours.
Friendly, polite, unobtrusive staff. Good food, clean and tidy. The staff responded well when I asked for another bed in the room for my son to stay. The lady (Portugese or Spanish), that served breakfast was lovely, and a real asset to the hotel. The Darwin room is a feature of the hotel and allows for private family dinners and meetings away from the main dining area. It would have been nice, being as my stay was over the Christmas period and temperatures were in minus double figures to have been offered an upgrade to the main hotel.
Comfortable rooms, great breakfast, friendly helpful staff.
Arrived on the Friday night and had a meal in the bar/restaurant. Breakfast choice on Saturday was excellent, as was Sunday. Did struggle to get a table on the Saturday eveing as there was a wedding, which we were unaware of. However, this was soon rectified by helpful staff. N/A
Good food. No toothbrush and no toothpaste. The customers should be well informed of this beforehand. As a frequent traveller, I can't really accept this is common practice.
Staff very pleasant and helpful. Food good value and good quality for the price. Handy for the centre of Shrewbury. Room 101!was very cold despite 2 rads being on. Towel rail in bathroom wasn't working so bathroom was freezing cold. Despite reporting the fault nothing was done about it for 3 days. Noisy[traffic] and not much room to work. Pillows poor and need replacing.
Hotel is in a good location, staff were polite and helpful, breakfast and buffet lunch were satisfactory Rooms were a little tired looking and shower facilities old fashioned
Good nights sleep very poor reception on BBC1 and I didn't like the smell of the air-freshener
Staff were extremely helpful. Very pleasant stay. Will definitely stay at the Lord Hill again.
I found the receptionist really pleasant, which gave a very good first impression. My daughter and I dined in the bar, and we found the service very good. No complaints.
The room we had was spacious, the view was excellent. Lots of wardrobe space and plenty of hangers! Needed re-decorating and bathroom needed a definite upgrade.Nice to meet locals in the bar and the bar food was very good. The hotel generally looked 'tired' but as I understand, the current owners have only been in for a few months, so maybe this is understandable. Restaurant food not as nice as bar food, but was more expensive! All staff very pleasant, but some very young and inexperienced. Some 'in-house training' would be useful?
The Hotel was Dirty & the approach to the Hotel said so, the Hotel needs updating £150 is all that it takes to update the room and make them look presentable, the Hotel needs to get rid of all the stuffed animals and money needs spending on the decor
The food at this place is spectacular. When people find out about this hidden gem it will go nuts. Try the restaurant.
very clean godd food to remote
Very freindly staff Room in need of re-decoration, wallpaper peeling, spa bath in poor condition.
We were able to get a family room with separate bedrooms.
Peace & quiet! Food was excellent! The fact that pets are allowed in all rooms! (There were dog hairs in our carpet)
Very pleasant hotel in picturesque area . Good breakfast and bar food . Good size car park . Comfortable rooms and good guests lounge . Would recommend for walking or relaxation break Some of the decor slightly dated .
Lovely hotel good food nice staff and lovely open fire in bar.breakfast good and served early for us to leave for appointmentno Nothing not to like.
It was a lovely country hotel, not commercialised, lovely intimate bar area with open fire and lovely food.
Comfortable room with good bathroom. Very helpful staff - happily changed our room immediately when there was a problem with a noisy bathroom fan. Lovely garden surroundings. Free WiFi. Quiet. Very good dinner in Oscar's Restaurant
The location was perfect for the purpose of my visit. The room was rather shabby, grubby paintwork, mouldy grout in the bathroom. The staff were not welcoming or friendly, just did their job and nothing more.
Convenient location to Wrexham and Chester Food was adequate but with a little more effort could have been better
The evening meals taken (3) were very good ,excellent menu. All the staff ,bar one ,were friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable if a little hot. We stayed 3 nights and our first experience of breakfast was not good, however the next 2 were very good.Hairdyer in the en-suite bathroom was a joke, perhaps more modern dryers could be available upon request. It would be good if the duvets could be chosen for the room temperature as the room was very warm and a light weight duvet would have been preferable to having to open the window.
We liked the comfort and cleanliness of our room. It was really warm and welcoming. It was a far nicer room than that of our friends in the older part of the building. (Room 44) The staff were excellent in reception, the bar and the restaurant and the breakfast was superb. Nothing to dislike.
The large room with the large comfortable bed and the food which was very good.
the room was very nice restaurant very very good
Comfortabe room. Value for money. Quiet
A pleasant modern hotel in an excellent location. Room lighting level poor. Cleaning of room not upto standard.
The restaurant food was good. The cleanliness of the room was a disgrace. The view from our room was a building site. There was dust/dirt everywhere, curtains hanging off the rail, carpets threadbear. We actually looked at 3 rooms. Stayed 1 night instead of 2.
The staff where very helpful and a credit to the hotel and its management The Room we stayed in was good, however the view from the windows was a brick wall, perhaps the hotel should invest in hanging baskets or something. If we stayed in this hotel again I would definately make sure that we didnt stop in room 10.
