10.0 Excellent
Pros: An absolute idyllic setting. Charming people. Wonderful pool. Nice dog.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast, although not a wide variety to chose from, was quite healthy. Alot better than the usual scrambled eggs out of a carton you get at other hotels. Staff and owners were always asking if everything was to our delight. Went out of their way to satisfy customers.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed the change from staying in towns, with benefits of staying in such a pretty property and setting. Some wonderful day trips in addition to Elvas. We ended up having dinner at the house each night to save going out again and dealing with parking.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location for those who want to stay out of the rush. Beautiful rural setting with terrific outdoor settings. Big rooms and comfortable beds. Breakfast was everything we needed. Good wifi and free parking.
Cons: Very minor but would have liked tea and coffee facilities.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location is great! We had our private little house with kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom. Everything was really clean and I wish we could have spent more time in this location. The pool is really nice and the view is unbelievable! The food was excellent in the evening, the wine was great! In the morning the breakfast was nothing special, but enough to eat something and be on your way. The only place where you can eat is at the property and you have to order 1h before, so make sure you do not arrive starving :) The view of the sunset in the evening is great and you can enjoy it during dinner.
Cons: We had an issue with small bugs that came during the evening and filled the entire place we stayed. It was a combination between a fly and a big ant and it was flying. When we arrived, we saw nothing, but when we came back from dinner, the house was full. We had them on the bed and stayed with us all night. The location and the entire experience was fantastic, but this was the thing that made us uncomfortable. We told the host next morning and she said she will take care of it. None of us knew where they came from...checked every little place that could be open and found nothing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The, the beautiful setting and the overall welcome feeling that you get.
Cons: I wish we would have known that they had a restaurant onsite, we would have preferred to eat a nice relaxing dinner there than stopped for takeout on the way over. Our fault though- but perhaps with a confirmation, they may want to send along the menú so guests can book a table ahead of time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice large room with large and clean bathroom and small private terrace. Beautiful grounds and pool area. Excellent food in restaurant in the evenings. Short drive to Elvas and Forte de Grace to explore. Liked it so much we ended up staying an extra night!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Attention to detail. Management always pending of our needs, Maria the Owner is lovely. The breakfast absolutely amazing. The pool is a dream. Secret place to be discovered and needs at least 2 or 3 nights here.
Cons: Absolutely perfect. One of the best places I've ever been.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The whole property was as lovely as the welcome we received including the two well behaved adorable doberman dogs Nina and Keizer. Dinner on the terrace every evening was delightful and the food prepared by Vera was superb.
Cons: There was nothing to dislike
10.0 Excellent
Cons: We liked everything!

Pros: If you are looking for complete peace and tranquility then this is the place to come. You are miles from any villages, with magnificent views over the lake. Pros: Great location, very friendly staff, good breakfast. Lovely and peaceful.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed our stay at Casa da Ermida de Santa Caterina, and we would have liked staying one night more to explore the surroundings and enjoy the beautiful landscape on the lake. The house offered a stunning mix of smart design and beautifully selected vintage objects and artworks. Breakfast was excellent and we had fun kayaking on the lake!
Cons: We would advice to bring food with you if you don't want to drive on the dirt road in the night looking for a restaurant in the nearby towns, having dinner under stars in complete silence is a wonderful experience!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous location on the edge of an idillic lake. It’s like a home-stay on a working farm but decidedly more luxurious. Genuine care and attention to needs by the hosts. We will definitely be returning.
Cons: Nothing - It was amazing!

The hotel is beautiful, the location is stunning, the staff are welcoming, the rooms are amazing, and the breakfast is the best I have eaten. Add a few dogs, cats, goats and chickens and the package is complete! Cannot wait to return for longer next time

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable bed. Great Breakfast and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Cons: We thought it was somewhat expensive.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I received a warm welcome, a lovely room with a very comfy bed and dog friendly. Just what I needed after a long drive from Bilbao. I was offered dinner which was excellent. The lady who cooked and served me was very friendly I was able to practice my very limited Portuguese on her! I had individual attention as I was the only guest. I will definitely stay again. Didn't need the air conditioning so can't comment on it, likewise the swimming pool...it is October.
Cons: The shower head was a bit loose and wobbly and the water seemed to come out of the top of it, so that could do with some attention, but I still had a good hot shower.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a fabulous place to stay and the home cooked evening meals were delicious and authentic to the Alentejo. The host is a very kind lady and so attentive to detail. She even made us afternoon tea. Cannot recommend highly enough.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: super warm host, amazing breakfast
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Adelaide was an incredible host!! She was helpful and kind and made us feel absolutely welcome and was ready at every moment to help us. She made wonderful meals and made us feel like we were visiting a friend. Very highly recommend.
Cons: Although we loved the personal feeling of the home and Adelaide is an amazing hostess, some details could be better. The fountain was not working, the shower heads and shower doors were malfunctioning and the outdoor furniture could be updated and the art and decore in the room could use a refresh. Beds linens were fresh and clean but mattresses were a bit too firm.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Customer service
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Facilities were spotless, quiet location and excellent host.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet place, nice small pool, perfect meal ordered in the afternoon and cooked in the moment, confortable room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was so comfortable and friendly. The setting was amazing. I just can't fault it.
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were very nice, the breakfast was delicious. The beds were firm but not uncomfortable. Plenty of space to park the car. The view from the place was nice. The outside area was great for sitting.
Cons: Frankly, it was expensive for what it is. The next night we stayed at a hotel inside the fortress walls in Marvao with breakfast included, very beautiful, and for 20 euros less. This place is not even that well located. The family room was small, not really a good place to hang out. The internet was weak.
Quinta da Sardinha - Elvas - Building
4
9.3 Excellent (50 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The host couple were very friendly and happy (we managed to communicate well even thought there was a language issue!) the accommodation was lovely, old - style working "ranch" with newly renovated rooms/bathrooms. We discovered the second swimming pool when the host waved us down the olive alley where she was working! Breakfast was sufficient and even received a bag of home-grown plums for our travels!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The facilities are fantastic: comfortable bed, great kitchen and living area. The farm is beautiful. Our hosts, especially Maria went out of her way to help us, even giving us fruits and vegetables from the farm.
Cons: The price went up the third night, even though we were the only guests.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: nice country house, unpretentious and very genuine, yet modern and comfortable the owners were charming and showed us around the property, offering very good fruit and other produce from their farm
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hosts are wonderful, kind and special people. The room was immaculately clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The freshly squeezed orange juice (oranges from the farm) was the best I have ever tasted. Other items from the farm, like the figs and walnuts, were also delicious. They sell wine, water and many other items at very reasonable prices (bottle of delicious wine only €5!) and they had already placed wine and water in the room prior to my arrival (excellent idea!). The lounge and kitchen facilities were wonderful. Don't worry that the location is 5Km from Elvas. I walked into Elvas but you can drive and very easily find a parking place.
Cons: Nothing. Everything was perfect and exceeded my expectations.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was lovely rooms were clean and fresh bed was comfy
Cons: nothing

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location - in nature, real farmland, peaceful and quiet. Very interesting, well restored farm buildings with nice touches all around and a great host. Snacks and kitchen available anytime, great fresh breakfast.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We had a great stay at the charming Monte do Vale. The location is great, in the middle of the campaign to enjoy the quietness and the authenticity of Alentejo but still close enough to the beautiful small town of Vila Viçosa which is a great place to visit and have dinner. Breakfast at the Monte do vale was excellent and Mr Joaquim Cordeiro was extremely nice and welcoming.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully decorated, very comfortable, traditional home feeling.
Cons: The access to the farmhouse is quite bumpy, for a city car or roadster. But it's part of the charm.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Swimming pool. The view over the region of Alentejo.
Cons: The location is quite far from Elvas and the accessability to the place is tough if you don't drive an SUV or pickup. The check-in experience was disapponting, an walktrough the place was not done. Information about breakfast time was not given. The place is shared with other families and thus it can be quite noisy especially during night if you want to sleep.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The quietness, the owner's availability and kindness. What's not to like in Alentejo?
Cons: The bed on the Elvas Room could get a little improvement since it shakes a little with two people sleeping in it. I guess it makes part of it's charm.
7.5 Good
Pros: Off the beaten track in a romantic setting this is the perfect place to escape for a romantic weekend. The owner came to local town to help us locate the property. I am guessing a former equestrian centre - the renovations have been carried out with imagination and taste. Excellent breakfast.

Breakfast was excellent with delicious home made products. The place is in the countryside although only a few kilometres from the historic town of Elvas. We would love to return.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful place and incredibly pleasant host. She is super-helpful and available. Lots of things to do and see on-site: pool, garden, animals, we loved all of it.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Friendly host. And fresh-squeezed orange juice and good bread make a great way to start the day!
Cons: Signage for the property was somewhat hidden in the foliage.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nature, animals and pool on property ...child friendly...wonderful host!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was an amazing surprise - garden full of exotic plants and trees, an orange orchard , fields of olives , plants in bloom in November..... the scent from the flowers walking back from the car to the hose in the evening was amazing. Your hostess is delightful and very welcoming. We had the "green room" , simply decorated, traditional Alentejano painted furniture and a beautiful wrought iron bed with pristine white bedding - incredibly comfortable. Plenty of charging points for gadgets, lap tops, iPhones etc. Breakfast was simple and delicious - a variety of fresh breads from the local bakery - I can recommend the light sultana bread with local honey, my partner recommends the strawberry yogurt. A choice of coffees teas, fruit, cereals, local hams and cheeses. The house also has two dogs, numerous cats and two donkeys and a pool - sadly was not the right weather for the pool, but it still looked very inviting. We very much admired the ethos behind this wonderful B & B , the beauty that surrounded it and the sense of calmness that it exuded. We will most definitely be returning.
Cons: We were very happy with what was provided, but for public information I would say the following. This is not a good destination for anyone with a wheel chair, unless one of the outside houses/rooms are available as the house has stairs up to the bedrooms, and down to the kitchen where breakfast is served. As stated there are no televisions in the rooms ........ do not go there expecting to find one and then complain because you did not read the room and property descriptions before booking.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: joke our host put herself out to make sure we had everything we needed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the host most charming and accomodating, will try to return inn springtime
Cons: nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This is a property that will appeal to people who like peace and quiet amongst the orange groves and the olive orchards along with the two donkeys and the various cats and dogs. The owner gives everyone a big and warm welcome and makes you feel that you are a part of her family. Beds, bedding and bedrooms are excellent .
Cons: There is a very limited breakfast menu which caters mainly for vegetarians with nuts ,muesli , cake, bread , jams and honey but would benefit by including some breakfast cereals and eggs to satisfy all European taste buds. The breakfast orange juice is freshly squeezed from the onsite oranges and the range of breakfast teas is very good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely owner/host. Very very relaxing.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a beautiful quinta and Joke is lovely. Unfortunatley our stay was too short so we couldn't really discover the area and the land around the quinta. Bed was comfy Tasteful decoration Next time we come in a warmer season and stay a bit longer :)
Cons: The room was very cold at first, but the heater was powerful so it warmed up quickly. Not a real problem really. In summer it is probably a big plus to have cool rooms.

Cons: The bathroom is a tad small but adequate The walls seem a little thin, which could be annoying if noisy Spaniards were next door. Or a snoring Frenchman . . .

Pros: TV, clean bathroom, pretty building.
Cons: Room was quite small and the street near hotel was really lovely even in the night (also cars) so it was not so easy to fall sleep.

Pros: Cosy and nostalgic atmosphere. Not entirely brand new but provides all you require. Loved the white table cloths in the restaurant.
Cons: The shower head was replaced by a newer one, which didn’t fit in holder attached to the wall, so you had to keep it in your hand while showering. The restaurant is cozy and service is good but a bit expensive for the quality of the food (we ordered two different salads for breakfast which mostly consisting of lettuce).

Pros: A hostel right around the corner from Elvas' city centre. Comfortable enough for a short stay, the bathroom was exceptionally modern and squeeky clean. The air conditioning was appreciated, as the city traps a lot of heat in the summer!
Cons: Despite its convenient location, the hostel is not in a very nice street and the room was very modest for its price. A lower price would be more justifiable.

Pros: Fabulous setting in huge estate, pools (fish and swimming) statues, aviary.... it goes on. The bed room was fine, but it lacked a comfortable chair where one could sit and read. The bathroom was large with acres of marble, though let down by a plastic bath which had seen better days. A number of families with young and mostly unsupervised children were also staying, which removed much chance of peace in the sitting rooms downstairs or out on the terrace, until their bedtime. The swimming pool, a vast and magnificent thing, only had a few inches of water so was unusable.
Cons: Rather a grand room, but the TV and one of the bedside lights didn't work. Promptly rectified, though. Didn't eat in, as the restaurant was a little over - formal ( though not punishingly expensive) and we preferred something more ethnic.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful hotel, the room was spectacular. The scenery was very beautiful and very peaceful. The staff was very helpful and nice. I can say without a doubt it's the best hotel I've stayed in a while.. From staff, to accommodation to surroundings. Very good in deed. I will definitely return.
Cons: This is minor, but none the less: I never thought I'd say this, but the birds outside were a bit noisy in the morning. The TV was small (I think it's the standard size I see in most hotels), it would be nice if it was 35"+.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was superb. Great staff, fabulous place, wonderful pool and gardens. Great food in the restaurant too.
Cons: all great
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Bruno was excellent and very quick to change our room when it was established that the air conditioning was not working properly. Overall the accommodation was comfortable and in good order and the food offer ok. Dinner was good and the aavailability of bacon and eggs for breakfast a surprise. However the ability to warm plates would have been welcome.
Cons: The breakfast coffee
5.5 Okay
Pros: Staff polite and the onsite restaurant
Cons: Sorry but I can only say it's an up market layby hotel. If u don't mind been woken at 5am with truckers starting their lorries up, and the noise still heard with the window closed Also the stinky toilets/drains then go for it.

Pros: The flattering photos! Useful cafeteria and helpful staff translation, an English menu would have been helpful however.
Cons: Constant noise, motorway hum, plumbing, backing lorries all night in nearby lorry park and to crown it all we were under the laundry which started spin drying early and continued through siesta time. There was no internet available for periods of time in the hotel. The swimming pool wasn’t open although it was 33*

Pros: Roadside location a couple of kms outside Elvas, with good parking facilities. Spacious rooms, a bit dated in terms of décor, but very clean and comfortable. Beds are firm and comfortable. Good internet connectivity on the rooms. Simple but nicely furnished breakfast spread.
Cons: Nothing to dislike on the hotel. Only wished that the downstairs restaurant would serve light meals. Had to drive to Elvas for a light meal, as the restaurant only serves fully fledged meals, both in quantity and price, nothing quick, light and reasonably priced.

Pros: Staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was a very good standard and hotel clean throughout. Would stay again a.
5.0 Okay
Pros: We were late for breakfast and the waiter delivered coffee to the room for us. Then again why don't they have tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms?
Cons: The staff didn't appear particularly friendly. They bickered at the reception in Portuguese, check-in was not smooth as they couldn't find mine and our friends booking, then the staff was pointing at me during breakfast, asked repeatedly me what room , then when there was a problem with card payment for restaurant meal the manager raised his voice and spoke rudely. The bar was opened every night until late, but on Saturday they decided not to open it for us without explanation. Overall my impression was that the team either didn't want or didn't know how make us feel welcome. It might be a perfectly good hotel, but my experience was more negative than positive.
