Room provided all required facilities. Large comfortable bed. Good service and quality of breakfast. Parts of the room were not warm enough. Lighting was not adequate/appropriately arranged to support working at the desk.
Very helpful staff, they have made a real effort with the new rooms. Very pleasantly surprised and will come back again.
Newly refurbished rooms. High standard of cleanliness. Ample free parking. Polite and helpful staff. Good selection on breakfast menu which was very tasty. Good location, situated in nice quiet parklands just a few minutes drive from Faversham town centre. Not enough wardrobe space. No chest of drawers for clothing. Poor lighting in bathroom and no shaver point. No clock or phone in room. These are only small points which may be addressed once refurbishment is complete and did not spoil our stay at all.
Great location, nice quiet countryside, lovely hall and bar, nice food, very welcome, worth a visit but check events there, doing a few and might be worth booking in for! Room was cold, when arrived.
Excellent staff - the 2 guys are extremely friendly and helpful and making an enormous effort. The rooms were well decorated. Lumpy bed on 1 side. Shower going hot/cold.
The room was very well decorated and furnished. We received perfect customer service - even from someone carrying a pot of paint!! The room was quite cold when we got there but after the heater had been on for 15 mins it was cosy!!
Reception, restaurant, views and peace and quiet. Bathroom.
The hotel is in a lovely location and the rooms are comfotable and clean, There is a nice bar and lounge area. No bath in the room and a very small bathroom.
The family who run this hotel are really trying, it is a new venture and they deserve to succeed. They are friendly, cheerful and helpful. The dining room is light and pleasant and breakfast was very good. Our evening meal was of a fair standard and value for money. If I had not previously booked and had just driven up to this hotel I would not have even entered,it does not look like an hotel and the surroundings are rather derelict as this is part of an older hotel that was destroyed by fire. However I would have been the loser. They still have some way to go getting things quite right in the rooms (mirrors and electric plugs etc and no glasses in the bathroom) but these are only minor.
The bed was very comfortable The fact that you dont provide a 'full english' breakfast
upgraded to enviable room, it was fanastic especially the bath, ate in the hotel restaurant and that was superb too.We were treated like royalty. The hotels location is second to none car parking is a problem
Lovely town and excellent food Shower in hotel was poor, needed new shower head
Really good service. Even to the point of giving us a free glass of champange as it was our anniversary Parking is not grat although they will give you a discount on public car park fees if all the car parking spaces are full
The bed They forgot to deliver our newspaper on the second day
It's location - so close to the shops, restaurants and catherdral. Plus, the hotel just felt nice. Although the staff were really polite when checking in, they then ignored our entrances and exits through the lobby thereafter - a good evening every now and then would have been appreciated. The bathroom was also a little sub-standard given the cost of the room.
Comfortable rooms - good media facilities (telly, DVD player, CD player, bathroom was good. Excellent refurbishment of hotel. Breakfast on Bank holiday was poor with a full hotel the buffet was not replenished adequately and service was very slow. Lack of 'care' and personal service from staff. Rather expensive, for room size, breakfast should be included in the price.
We had a large room and staff were very friendly. Shower was not very powerful and the bathroom was cold. The full English breakfast was a bit small.
Disappointed that the fire alarm went off twice, no hot water in the morning, and they only took off 20% off one night of the hotel bill. Besides that it was good
The beds, the beds, the beds!! Simply the best beds ever. Beautiful interior design, luxuriuos without being pretentious or over elite. Every single thing in this hotel is considered with the customer in mind and makes for the most enjoyable stay. Will always stay there when in Kent now. About time canterbury had a hotel of this standard. Nothing.
Can't beat the location. Front desk staff were very unprofessional. One man at the front desk argued with me when I complained about a slamming door that kept us up all night, rather than trying to help! I had to investigate myself to solve the problem. Staff could use some lessons in hospitality. Also, I had to ask for my baby's cot 3 times, before it finally arrived at 10PM.
Comfortable rooms Not enough tables for breakfast. Slow service
Comfortable room, comfortable bed, nice duvet/pillows (choice of feather/hypoallergenic type) airy room, good breakfast.
Location Very noisy so not much sleep.
Excellent room, warm and large. Shower needed a de-scale.
proximity to city centre we were in the annexe (Tap Rooms?) about 6 feet from an unbelievably noisy pub whose clientelle spilled out on to the street and shouted and kept us awake until 2.00am. unimaginative selection of breakfasts, would have expected more than just the "full english" or parts there of
We enjoyed I stay here. Convenient for shopping, good atmosphere, good breakfast, easy check-in, staff helpful and friendly.
The hotel was ideally located for station, shops and restaurants. The staff were efficient, friendy and helpful. The room and bathroom were rather cold - this is a statement of fact rather than a complaint
I liked that the hotel was so central . the staff very polite and very helpful The breakfast was horrible. very overcooked . we had toast though .Also the room we had , room 16, was very noisy .
Car parking facilities and friendly staff also excellent shower! Room a bit small and no room service menu
The staff were good. I stay in a lot of hotels and the information about the room etc is not satisfactory good location though & small but all night bar Plenty. It did not feel clean, the rooms were small and ill equiped and very dated bathroom etc
Wonderful location overlooking Canterbury Cathedral (great view from room) and just a short walk from the old part of the city. Very helpful staff. Breakfast was only 'continental' and rather uninspired. No hotel bar - felt a bit awkward sitting round in the library.
Clean, well managed. The discounted price made it affordable. The full price would not be value for money, local hotels offer more for the same price.
Beautiful view from our window overlooking the cathedral with a Christmas tree covered in lights. Windows in the room let in the cold.
The location within the precint of Canterbury Cathedral. My room had a great view of the cathedral which was very special in the evening when all the visitors had left. everything was fine, there was nothing not to like about this place.
The setting was amazing! Peaceful and Tranquil. You felt almost like you were part of the clergy. Really, its not that I didn't like it, however, it wasn't totally clear that the hotel is In the Cathedral Grounds! The way-finding wasn't too clear.
The Hotel was really nice and the location was great no complaints, I was very happy
The hotel was clean and staff very helpful. No bad points
Location Basic accomadation no extra's
The best thing about this hotel is its fabulous location Would have preferred a full english breakfast and bar facilities
Ideal location in the centre to town and very quiet. The staff is very hepful. The rooms are spacious and very clean.
Plenty of room to move around. Bed was comfortable and the Breakfast Superb! The Toilet roll rail was loose and the TV had only the basic five channels so definatley needs upgrading to have the Freeview Digital Channels! And coludn't get to sleep until after 11pm when the pub closes.
The staff and customers were very friendly The room was very compact and the small bore plumbing did make quite noise when flushing the toilet but this was shortlived
Town centre location The menue was expencive compared to similar pub hotels that we have stayed in
Good location, quiet and not too expensive.
It was a nice character building. Cosy The room was at the front on the street and it was noisy there was also a lot of noise from a banging door late afternoon early evening from the pub below.
The room was quaint and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. I liked that this was not a large chain hotel. The only negative comment I have is that the toilet in our room ran all the time (but, nothing a minor plumbing repair wouldn't fix).
Room above pub where band played until 1110' no sound insulation, when complained was asked to join in and have free drink on them.
Size of room; heat, cleanliness. Overall quality of food served. Friendly approach of staff. Unfortunate that the pub does not serve bar meals on Sunday evenings, and was not serving on New Year's Eve. This was understandable, but somewhat inconvenient.
Friendliness of staff, position of hotel. Food was well cooked and presented, and reasonably priced, all made for an enjoyable stay. Keep up the good work. Well done to all, thank you.
The receptionist was great and enthusiastic. Bed was comfy, room was small but the shower worked..so all in all quite a comfortable stay. The mug in the room for tea/coffee was really dirty.
easy to get to, good basic price for a good basic hotel, staff were very friendly Hotel rooms were spotless, but stairs were a bit worn and dusty
Clean, spacious and comfortable room. Not too far from the city centre. Staff friendly and helpful.
Room was too warm and could not adjust the temperature
Comfortable bed. Good sized bathroom. Narrow room with little space at foot of bed. Traffic noise. Lack of furniture (bedside cabinet only one side of bed). Noise from other guests in corridor.
i had business meetings and fount that the hotel was very close to the main A2, ut also walking distance to the centre of Canterbury.
The excellent staff were both welcoming and helpful, genuinely happy to welcome us to Canterbury
The rooms were spacious the bed comfortable but tired looking. But we enjoy staying here.
staff very friendly lovely clean warm room very relaxed nothing
The Victoria Hotel is in a good location. The staff and the restaurant are the winning points.
All of the staff that we met at Ashford where extremely polite and friendly with a very professional manner. Very small point. The fantastic bathroom was let down by the stickers that had been stuck on the tiles (crooked) providing information and warnings.
Good restaurant with well prepared food Shower in the room was almost impossible to adjust
Only ever stayed for one night many times prior to going and coming back from Spain via the tunnel. Comfortable beds, nice rooms and a good shower (makes a change not to have water all over the floor like many hotels). Breakfast is a feast and hot, dinner at night is also good will be back.
I only stayed for the 1 night but found the staff friendly and helpful. I relaxed in the pool area and enjoyed a good nights sleep before my meeting the next day.
The evening hotel staff were extremely friendly and we were not rushed at all during our meal I cut my foot in the pool area on a two pronged black 'tack' and had to get some first aid assistance - didnt seem to really be 'on the ball' but did give me spare plasters. Staff did not give the impression they knew how to use the stairlift down to the pool as my mother needed to us it and it took ages whilst they experimented with the different buttons and during all ths time everyone was watching my mum on their and couldnt get past and this was embarrassing for her. Under the DDA Regulations they should be totally prepared to accommodated customers with mobility impairments
Food rooms and curteous staff
very comfortable room lack of facilities during renovation and particularly concerned for the large number of elderly / infirm people who had to climb stairs due to their being no lift available during the refurbishment.
Staff, much like the people in Ashford, were very nice. One of the front desk staff gave us a great recommendation and directions to a fantastic indian restaurant. Rooms are definitely not of the standard one would expect given the price and star rating. To say walls are thin is an understatement. Every noise from corridors and neighbouring rooms could be heard - including bathrooms. Rooms have been decorated, but are not maintained well - lots of large cobwebs and handle fell off door of the second room we were moved to (given the excess noise in the first). Second room whihc was a non-smoking room smelt badly of stale cigarettes. While staff/food were excellent, we could not ever recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nights sleep. Also disappointed that our request for a room at end of corridor / very quiet room, did not get transferred from booking.com to the hotel (according to the hotel).
the room was pleasing and a comfortable bed. yes, the refurbishment meant that the facilities were not up to standard, especially a make-shift restaurant with no windows/outside light.
Breakfast Hard Bed
Excellent breakfast and friendly staff. Sea Views, fresh air and easy parking. Pleasant parade of charity and antique shops in Tankerton. Confusion over lack of sea view. Hotel maintained messages put on booking.com are not received by hotel. Eventually sorted out.
The friendliness of staff and the way everything about our stay was explained to us Noisy people outside the bar late into the night.
Location on the seafront The hotel never seems to be "finished" in terms of refurbishment. Having stayed there 3/4 times either decoration of room or refit has not been completed..
On the seafront and within walking distance fom the raiway station and a short bus ride to Canterbury this was an excellent place to stay while visiting my elderly relatives. The room was clean, food was good and the staff were friendly.
Very comfortable room, nice and warm during an extremely cold weekend, well placed for a walk into Whitstable and trip to Canterbury.
I loved the relaxing nature of the hotel, lovely staff great bar, fab breakfast. Great sea view. No
Location, good breakfasts Hotel rooms somewhat outdated
The staff were very freindly and helpful The room was more basis than advertised on their website
near the city centre could do with re decoration.
friendly staff na
The cleaniness and friendly staff
Convenience, comfortable room and food excellent Room was on the 'road side' so noisy at pub closing time
location could not arrange breakfast before 8.00
Hotel rooms in need of renovation
Excellent staff, wonderful location and fantastic value for money. Thank you Nothing
Location, bar area was lovely Shower tray didn't drain, curtains hanging off rail, strange smell in stairwell, tv in room only had 4 channels, not freeview like most other 4 star hotels. This was a 3 star hotel at best, sorry
Friendly staff and closeness to city centre. Pub had cosy fire. No free parking.
The place is over 500 years old, and looking at the height of the door frames, I would guess that to be correct. I felt like I was staying in a museum, and I mean that in a good way. It was really cool sitting there thinking that people had been staying in the same room I was in for the past few hundred years. The hotel faces a really nice little square on one side, and looks out over Canterbury Cathedral and its surrounding yard on the other. Its a great location for exploring the town, and the prevalence of the Star Bucks right under the hotel made my friends happy they were able to connect history with 21st century consumerism. The room I stayed in had a 30 degree angle slant which made for an odd first couple steps if you got out of bed. But granting that the room was a few centuries old, I could understand it. It even added to the charm I suppose. You were forced to share a toilet and shower with the floor, but even though the hotel was supposedly fully booked I never had any issues with either being occupied. They were clean, and it didn't really bother me, but might not be something seeking a private bed/bath would like.
The rooms and the hotel in general were very comfortable and good looking. From the window, we could see the famous Canterbury Cathedral which is actually adjacent to the hotel itself. The breakfast included in the price was served directly in the room, but it is also possible to have it in the common dining room. The toilets and the showers were very clean. The bin in the room was full of garbage when we arrived in the hotel. The toilet paper in the common toilet finished and no one came to replace it.
Good location in the centre next to the high street shops and cathedral. I was cold in the room, did not know how to get more heat from the radiator. Also the window did not close well and it was a rainy and cold day. The tv is really very small with only about 3 channels working, only one clearly. It seemed a bit like camping, not good in winter. Only a sink in the room and old fashion, water either too hot or too cold. Room very small, oldish, but that is to be expected in an old building.
Right in the centre, plenty of character.
Very nice four poster bed; interesting and charming room (tiny bit cluttered though?) but clean. Friendly and speedy check-in and check- out; pleasant staff all round. Interesting hotel with history and great location. Good view of the Cathedral from the room. Very poor shower - no pressure at all. No one greeted us at breakfast, so delays in getting served, and table not set out properly. Generally unsuitable dining room - had we known how claustrophobic it was we would have chosen to eat in the room. Comparable hotels would have had hot breakfast included in the price.
The hotel had a great atmosphere - really quaint. Staff were friendly and helpful, and left us to it. None
Location. Views on the Cathedral and right in the centre of Canterbury. Plenty of choice with the Continental breakfast. Labyrinth to find rooms. Uneven floors due to age. Average furnishing. About 500 metres to nearest car park.
We found the hotel comfortable but basic - it was an excellent choice for the purpose of our trip. We were visiting our nephew at the university it was our own fault but we booked a room with a shared bathroom - we prefer en suite
The room had been well refurbished and was well appointed
Friendliness of the staff
staff very helpful, quiet room (which we asked for), good atmosphere
Staff friendly and helpful. Good location, easy access. Shabby decor/carpet stains
Helpful staff, good food, lovely room furnishing. No bar for residents after 11:00 p.m.
Friendly staff, pleasant food
Ease of location and good value for money
The on site bar and restraunt pleny of parking
It was easy to stay there, left to yourself. It was quite cold with the radiators not working properly.
All round a very good experience
Very comfortable room, the public area has yet to be renovated but it was ok. Handy for the eurostar also a short walk from restaurant for evening meal.
room is good, the hotel may be better after finiching work, to find hotel very bad,
feeling welcome despite very late arrival after ferry crossing, free upgrade to family suite, well heated room, very friendly breakfast service a shame breakfast is not included in the room rates
Very nice stay, friendly welcome, excellent breakfast
Fabulous beds! Full English breakfast is not worth the money.
The rooms where immaculate and very well equiped with everything you could desire. The staff where extremly helpful and nothing was to much trouble. I really enjoyed staying at downsview, if you wish to stay at a hotel with the comfort of home, downsview is a sure choice.
Nice place, with excellent staff.
The view from our room was over the garden and downs, we had the continental breakfast at £4 it was excellent vaue
Very clean rooms! Excellent self-service breakfast with different cerials, fresh fruits and toast!
Our room was furnished to a very high standard and was very clean It did not mention that currently they are doing the hotel up, therefore the only facilities that are up to standard is the bedrooms.
Quiet, non-smoking, good breakfast, interesting buildings, off- road parking. None really.
The staff were particularly pleasant
no mini bar in room no glasses in room
Access to full Freeview channels on TV Food not stunning, and felt very much an outstider when walking through the bar to get to the restaurant. Also seemed to be a nuisance as large parties were expected that evening!
The staff was great and responsive. We had to change rooms due to toilet not working. Then, the new room had no toilet paper and the window crank was missing.
nice village location, close to canterbury heating in bedroom warm air
Great place to stay with old fshioned service and friendly staff. Food is excellent value and the Kentish breakfast a must!
Nice place to stay. We were travelling on, so we stayed only one night. Perfect to visit Kent.
Key system to room
good food, comfortable bed no
Location and atmosphere. Nice pub and lovely open fire. Breakfast was wonderful Nothing
The location was excellent in a quiet village. The room itself was confortable and well appointed, quite charming. The staff were friendly and attentative and the food very good.
The staff were particularly friendly and catered to all the needs of our party (20 people in total). Our room was in a converted old building and was very compact. It was fine for one night - not sure that I would want to spend more than a couple of days in that room.
Everything it was perfect
The smell of the foliage! but not a major problem.
relaxed and friendly
Friendly staff great food quiet location. Bedroom was above kitchen with a noisy boiler or extractor fan
Lovely hotel situated in a very quaint village. Food was excellent. The staff friendly and accommodating to our needs. Unfortunately our bedroom was over the boiler room and the pump was giving out a huming noise all night.
Cosy, historical room. Excellent food at breakfast and dinner. Convenient parking.
