Comfortable bed, very close to Gatwick
When you first pull in there are cars everywhere. They are parked on the double yellow and the grass so it looks like it's going to be difficult to park. Then you pull around back and there is a HUGE, almost empty car park. I guess people are just too lazy to see that there is also an entrance to the hotel at the back.
As expected for a Holiday Inn, staff was fantastic, great location if you want a quick overnight hotel for an early morning flight. The GBP3 shuttle bus only takes about 15 mins from Gatwick South and only 5-10 from the hotel to Gatwick South. All in all, a great bargain for only GBP49.
The room did not have a minibar/minifridge, which was a pain because I had some things I wanted to keep fresh for the next day flight. Also, very little free tv channels compared to their "100+ channels" advertising. The mattress wasn't what you would get at a 5 star (obviously), but definitely better than your average budget hotel.
Very attentive staff in the Hub Bar/Resturant area, excellent service.
As this was the first time we used Holiday Inn Gatwick we were surprised to find cars parked in the shuttle bus area causing us to wait almost 15 minutes as we could not get passed for the cars. We had had a very long drive to get there and the 15 minute wait seemed like hours. If only 2 cars directly under the reception canopy were removed there would be many people that would not be inconvenienced in this way..
proximitry to airport and ease of access
Convenient location and pleasant atmosphere
Having to use the bus, waiting for it ,paying for it loading and unloading bags
There were problems with TV reception and the payment required for internet access in our room ws buried in the "fine print". I approached the manager, Gabriella, and received a very fair hearing, and a compromise on price that was acceptable. This made our stay much more satisfactory. We did not eat at your hotel; the prices were much higher than we expected. Breakfast at an extra GBP14.95 is not likely to attract many takers. We found a local pub, Ye Olde Six Bells, and had two good meals there.
The bus service to and from the Northern terminal was good, but again we expected this to be complimentary. The charge was not excessive, just unexpected. The service was provided under a "courtesy coach" label, and we felt this meant complimentary.
