10.0 Excellent
Pros: My room was located two flights of safe stairs up in another building a few steps away from main reception. The bedroom and bathroom were compact, pleasantly decorated and very clean. I loved the view from the little balcony (outdoor table and two chairs provided). Breakfast choices were a variety of sweet cakes, bread roll with butter/jam/Nutella and good coffee. Pleasant staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location and lovely room. Staff very accommodating and friendly. Loved it. A special place and special town.
7.1 Good
Cons: I stayed at this hotel twice before in 2015 & 2016. Things that I loved at this accommodation are no longer offered: beakfast in the past offered greater variety...ham, cheese, breakfast rolls & fresh fruit, which is essential for those of us who are prediabetic or diabetic. Simone explained that sweet cakes are the traditional breakfast served in Italy. Sitting outside for breakfast was also no longer offered, which I truly missed. I couldn't help think that these changes were more about creating less work for the person in charge and cutting costs. Sad to see because it had an impact.. The noise level from the next door bar/restaurant made sleeping difficult. You were lucky if you fell asleep before 1am. Lastly, I was told I was unable to store small items in the fridge, something I greatly appreciated in the past, especially given the high temperatures. Ultimately, my experience was very disappointing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: we came with the car and it was very easy to park the car in a parking place about 7 minutes walking. The accommodation is very much in the center. The crew was very friendly. The room is very clean
Cons: To hotel is so much in the center that it is near to the church. The church bells make some noise in the night. They give some ear plugs to reduce the noise.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful charming little spot. Clean, comfortable, central (in the historic center) and we had our own little patio with a table and chairs. Would absolutely stay here again.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Location was excellent and the staff extremely friendly and accommodating - highly recommended!!!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location was very good, the young lady who checked us in and served breakfast was lovely and friendly. Gubbio is so full of authentic Italian charm.
Cons: Would have preferred to be in the main hotel building and not have to access our accommodation via steep concrete steps next door. Room a little stark a few homely touches would make it more relaxing.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Simple room and bathroom, but fine for price
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Grand stylish and very comfortable accommodation. Delightful friendly and extremely helpful host. In a central location in the historic centre.
Cons: Nothing

Castello Di Petroia - Gubbio - Bedroom
2
9.4 Excellent (206 reviews)
Overview Reviews

Featured amenities include multilingual staff and luggage storage. This guesthouse has 2 meeting rooms available for events. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: 11th century castle beautifully restored & updated. Family owned & run with staff who make you feel like family. Heartfelt hospitality. Wonderful breakfast served with love by Isabella. Terrific restaurant for dinner with an excellent Matre di, Paolo. Chef will try to accommodate special requests. Bucolic countryside with terrific views.
Cons: Not much, except perhaps the 1 mile of unpaved road to the property.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Spacious room. Excellent breakfast. The castle is very special. We felt like nobility (just a bit and for far to short a time). A special time to be remembered.
Cons: A bit remote. We were visiting a lots of towns and villages on this trip.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I'm a fan of castles and lets face it, some castles aren't "real" castles. Castello di Petroia is a "real" castle. It's also a luxury hotel out in the beautiful Umbrian hill country. The breakfast was outstanding and the dinner was awesome. The rooms are what you would expect from a luxury hotel. The staff was awesome and goes out of their way to make sure your stay is perfect. We had to leave early our last day to catch a flight (before breakfast) and the staff made sure we had whatever breakfast things we needed before we left. My kids really enjoyed the resident cats. The pool was wonderful since we were in the middle of an unprecedented heat wave all over Europe. I wish the weather would have been nicer (not 40 C) as there are many trails I would've liked to explore.
Cons: If only we could fix global climate change so that we don't have 40 C days in June. That said, I have nothing negative to say about anything humans can control at Castello di Petroia.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We particularly loved the view from our bedroom window. It was surreal. The morning fog blanketed the hills and was pierced only by the occasional Italian Cypress and morning crow of a nearby rooster. We watched the fog lift as we drank our coffee. It was an unforgettable morning. Dinner and breakfast both were fabulous, with dinner being served in the on-site restaurant and complimentary breakfast being served in another area. We also appreciated the large desk that easily accommodated both of us as we did have some work to do while on our trip.
Cons: We would have loved to have had a coffeemaker in the room. When we travel we enjoy waking up and making our own coffee right away.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, had dinner in the Courtyard which was magical. Had a slight issue with our room which was dealt with in a quick and efficient manner. The staff are extremely helpful- not often you say that.
Cons: Nothing.
7.5 Good
Pros: Friendly and helpful owner and staff. They will to find restaurant for guest for lunch. Very kind of owner, they send and fetch us, WITHOUT ANY CHARGES, without paying. Good place to stay and have good garden. We will come back in this hotel and recommended to Asia people to stay there.
Cons: The place is a bit far and in middle of nowhere, but the owner is very very helpful, friendly and kind. No various food for asia people, all food are same,
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The castle is a charming boutique hotel of great elegance and antiquity. The beauty of its location and its panoramic vistas are breathtaking. The owner and his staff have achieved the epitome of hospitality. A short stay and evening meal will remain any visitor as a wonderful memory for many years.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were amazing, really big. The bathroom has a jacuzzi, so it’s very comfortable. The property has a really good pool, a little far from the main building, but with an amazing view. But the best part was the restaurant. The most amazing food I’ve ever eaten. They have a menu full of dishes with truffles, so you can imagine how amazing the taste was.
Cons: The pool is a little far form the property.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A spectacular castle to spend a night or two. So much history it was amazing. The staff were fantastic and went out of their way to make our stay special. The rooms were beautiful and the dinner and breakfast were delicious. Was a highlight of our time in Italy.
Cons: Nothing.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff here are exceptional in every way. Friendly helpful and always available. We ate dinner here both nights. Very good food and a nice atmosphere as well as excellent service. The location is wonderful and the experience of staying in a castle is authentic.
Cons: Not a dislike but one thing really missing here is a bar or lounge to enjoy a pre or post dinner drink when it's too cool outside. There is one room but just with wooden table and chairs so not so comfortable or atmospheric.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location, the room, the amenities, actually everything
Cons: The place is amazing, once a monastery and today an impressive hotel, with all the required services and more...!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Massive comfortable beds, huge property full of interesting corners, great sun area. Staff pleasant and helpful. Surrounding area is stunning. An excellent base to see Umbria.
Cons: Lighting was a bit dim and we did have great difficulty in obtaining a device to charge our phones. The staff did everything possible, but even then it was quite limited.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We love how peaceful and quiet the hotel is. The rooms are cool although a little dark. We love the food there which is very high quality.
Cons: When we booked for dinner we weren't asked if we wanted to eat outside and so when we went to dinner and wanted to eat outside it seemed to be a bit of an issue for them. We did eventually get an outside table but we felt a bit annoyed about being kept waiting while they phoned reception to discuss it.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: A tasteful conversion of historic buildings into a luxury hotel. Room well appointed and comfortable. Service in the restaurant was friendly and efficient.
Cons: The Ai Cappuccini is primarily geared for the conference trade and certainly when we were there the result of several conference / business groups was rowdy drunks in the corridors late into the night. Luckily were had a room at the very end of our corridor we were not imune. Regretably, conference trade, which is good income, doesnt always match with expectations of the star rating.
7.1 Good
Pros: Good location close to the lovely old town of Gubbio. Comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was just the most glorious hotel. I wish I could have stayed longer
Cons: N/A!
5.8 Okay
Pros: Beautiful lobby
Cons: Noise! You hear every sound in neighboring room... every ... even murmuring. Change the doors at least!!!!!! It’s a huge problem of the hotel!!!! We couldn’t sleep... kids crying, dogs , laughing... nightmare! Breakfast is not Italian at all by quality of food. Coffe is ugly. Main restaurant is closed 14:30-20:00!!! No opportunity to eat in the hotel. Never again( can’t recommend it unfortunately
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic Property, great staff
Cons: Nothing

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The B&B Vladichiascio is an incredible place! It is a stunning landscape, and a wonderful rest for walkers of the Via Di San Francesco. After a long day of walking, the wonderful dinner, and the resident kitten, lifted my spirits. Grazie!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Maria Teresa, the owner of this beautiful gem on the Way of St. Francis was an angel. The rooms were delightful, the meals divine. She prepared fresh and delicious pasta and a frittata with fresh tomatoes that were simply wonderful. Homeade liquores were shared after dinner and we were in Nirvana. Maria Teresa went out of her way to help me with an aching foot by sharing some pain cream and then went on further to find a friend to drive us to our next day's location so I could rest. This will always be one of our favorite places along our Way of St. Francis. Don't miss it! Just one note that I'd forgotten was shared before. Maria Teresa takes euro cash only so just take note and have it on hand to pay for your stay.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Teresa was a lovely host. My room was very nice, good size, shower room end suite and the bed extremely large and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were very nice. It really is a beautiful valley and the walk the next morning amazing!

Pros: Beautiful property on the top of a hill near Gubbio. Hidden into the nature, with a stunning view, friendly and helpful staff and comfortable rooms! The perfect place to spend a quiet and relaxing weekend to charge up your batteries in a somewhat old times vibes.

Pros: The location, swimming pool, serene surroundings and view were excellent. The staff was friendly. On the property there is an amazing place near a tree to have (your own) drink in comfortable chairs while you watch the sunset with an amazing view. That is priceless...
Cons: The antique family bed in our room was good to look at and had a good mattress, but was quite noisy when the other one in the bed turned. But that probably fits the whole experience:)...

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely old room with great view, great welcome and great location in centre of historic Gubbio
Cons: No WiFi
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was perfect.
7.5 Good
Cons: Very loud music from the bar directly underneath the appartement rooms. Kids and ourselves were unable to sleep up to 2am. Not something we expected appreciated at all for one night in such old town as Gubbio. This should be part of the apartment description on Booking.com, so that renters are aware and ok with this when making their booking.
7.5 Good
Pros: Super friendly and communicative staff. Five stars for cleanliness. Shower water pressure excellent. Attractive reconstruction, wall murals. Breakfast/coffee discount at Jolly Cafe just around corner.
Cons: 1- no air-conditioning. Staff was wonderful, willing to reimburse me so I could locate a hotel with A/C during heat wave, but room seemed ok in late afternoon. Got hotter throughout evening/night in spite of fan. Wish I'd switched. 2- minimal infrastructure. No extra glasses, no mini-fridge, no wifi, no staff on premises except for arrivals. 3- lumpy pillows. They were old and battered. Mattress just ok. 4- location not great, down at base of historic center. 5- the "chocolate" in room upon arrival is a supmkt pastry in plastic wrap from a box! Sad.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really close to the historical city centre, basicly in it. The owner and the staff gave us all the information what we needed. They helped us a lot, where to eat, where to park, where to take short or longer trips. The city is incredible, must see! In 50 meters: shops, info point, caffe house, pay parking place.
Cons: Under the apartment there is a bar, which is open till 2:00. It wasn’t loud at all, but you should know. We never a heard anything.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Location was central
Cons: No cleaning during my 4 days stay Toilet was dirty on arrival Pub underneath the property with loud music
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Easy location to access, even if walking a distance is an issue. We walked the whole town and out to parking several times. Historic building, tastefully maintained. Staff are great!! I parked in a stupid place, got towed, and staff were right there to assist me in navigating a solution!! Can’t thank Lucia and Silvia enough.
Cons: I wish I was smart enough to park correctly. It was easy enough!

Cons: Some ideas and promises have not been achieved.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nikis Resort is like stepping into a dream, so beautiful, that days after our return I still see it clearly when I close my eyes. We traveled to Italy with our two teenage children, for the first time. We started in Rome and then it was an easy car ride up to Umbria. The resort is located perfectly to allow visitors to explore the ancient cities in Umbria and Tuscany. We recommend day trips to Assisi and Perugia, and horseback riding in the mountains. At the end of each day, we enjoyed peaceful swimming in Nikis’ beautiful salt-water pool, and delicious dinners under the stars. Our stay also included a fresh breakfast each morning, attended to by a kind and professional staff. Spectacular. I think our most special memories from this place involve the owner, Layna. Never intrusive, but always warm and kind. She made us feel like family and we all, including the children, were so touched by her graceful presence. We will treasure these memories. Delightful!! Highly recommend.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The welcome from the owner was very nice and the rooms were excellent, with comfortable beds. Breakfast was also very good. Also very much appreciated how the atmosphere was relaxed as there were not too many guests.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is great for relaxing. It is at the top of a big hill so you have amazing views over the Italian country side. It is a very small and we mainly had the pool to ourselves. The staff were really lovely and helpful.
Cons: The hotel is far from any town or other restaurants. I would advise hiring a car if you are planning to stay here. The on site restaurant was very expensive, there was little choice and the wait staff although lovely were very slow.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: 5 star experience Felt like a honeymoon

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location in the historic center, quiet and safe, friendly staff, delicious breakfast.
Cons: Not really a dislike but a suggestion: It would be nice if there is always at least 2 staffers during breakfast. It gets to be very busy for just 1 person to manage all the guests.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: fantastic location inside the walls of Gubbio.
Cons: all great
7.1 Good
Pros: Central location in the historic district close to sights with public parking nearby. Reasonably priced with very ample breakfast included. Elevator.
Cons: Because the hotel is in the historic district it is necessary to park in a public lot; I was aware of this so I emailed the hotel the day before to advise that we would be arriving at noon to drop off luggage before parking and inquired if that would be ok. We were told yes. We arrived at noon on the dot; the hotel was locked with a note on the door to call a number that rang busy constantly and the other number on my booking confirmation did not work either. We left, found the public parking, parked the car, went to lunch, kept trying the numbers, no response. At 1:45 we returned. There was another guest, an Italian, also trying to call; we both finally left. At 2:30 we returned, the door was open and there was someone at reception who said there had been an electrical problem and that the phones did not work...if that was the case why not have a person there to deal with clients in person? We did not feel the reception staff was at all accomodating- it was as if we were a nuisance, a bother. Not at all apologetic about inconveniencing us. I had requested a room with a bath tub when booking and received a confirmation but upon check in only a shower was available. The room was ok, the bedroom was small, not really a superior double in furnishings/decor although it did have a small entry room with sofa bed which we did not need. On the positive side the room was neat and clean and had a view of the church.
7.9 Good
Pros: Breakfast was good. Parking was a nightmare!!!!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location was perfect. Packaged gluten free foods were available for breakfast Friendly staff
Cons: No car access to drop off luggage Staff not on duty at night Breakfast only average— many choices but none outstanding

Cons: Only draw back is getting a car to hotel, it is in a restricted area and parking some 500M away. Hotel will help but would be nice to be able to drop off and go to parking .

Pros: Great location opposite main piazza. What an interesting building! Hidden terraces, gardens and a secret tunnel. Great views across the old town and valley below. Lots of medieval charm. You can have breakfast outside in the piazza which is great. The shower was larger than standard.

Pros: place to be
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff are so friendly and helpful. The hotel is quirky in layout with delightful surprises (such as beautiful restful gardens at different levels) in an ancient palace annex and built up a steep hill. The staff ensure there is no problem with baggage up the first stairs to the lifts. The location is in the historic centre, accessible by car, with the parking lot a few hundred metres away after dropping off luggage (which the staff ensures is in your room when you return). The view is magnificent – over the ancient city of Gubbio and the whole valley. Breakfast is fantastic and a delightful light meals with local produce (prosciutto, cheeses, fruits and vegetables) are served at any time inside, or outside in the old square opposite. Wonderful recommendations for nearby restaurants are given (the Lupo is a standout). A great base to explore the fascinating town, its history and current local creative jewelers, ceramicists and artists.
Cons: There were no negatives!
